I agree with Monica, about how Eric and Ariel share a love of each other's worlds. Something about Ariel in the original animated, and which they emphasized even more in the live action, and which somehow many people still don't seem to understand, is that she was in love with the human world far before she ever met prince Eric. So many people trivialize her as some love-sick teenager giving up her life for some dude she just met. But that is not the point of her at all! I like what they did in this film, to show how Eric is just as enamored with the sea- before meeting Ariel- as Ariel is with the surface world- before meeting Eric. They were already so taken with each other's worlds, before meeting each other. That is what drew them together- a shared enthusiasm. It makes their attraction more believable, and also makes her rebellion against her father deeper than just some crush. It's Ursula that makes the spell all about some kiss and getting a man; that's her insinuation, not Ariel's wish. There are things I liked and disliked about this live-action film, but overall, I found it a worthy version, an enjoyable film. Halle was tremendous.

This is actually pretty good as far as the Disney remakes go. Halle Bailey was absolutely BORN to play Ariel! Have you seen the remake of Cinderella with Lily James? IMO that is another one of the best, if not THE best, Disney remakes, would love to know what you think of that one!
Anyone who said the live action remake of this film is bad, clearly needs to get their head checked. Also compare the original to the remake and you’ll see which one is better.
And you clearly need to understand that people have different tastes. Some will like the animated/original better. Some will prefer this. Both options are okay.
Okay so ariel is 18 yrs. Old and prince eric is 21. Triton's wife and the daughter's mother probably didn't have a "color" or rather a "race". In the book Their mother Athena looks more like a "sea creature" than the other mer-folk. (Ihmo she looks green to me.) Maybe, Just maybe. she got pregnant in each of the seven seas and perhaps the daughters. Took on features of the regional mer-folk hence why they are of other ethnicities.
This was such a fun reaction to watch, the enthusiasm was contagious! I honestly liked this movie so much more than I thought I would, this was a live action done well ps. you two are so pretty
its so dumb. They literally tried to explain why shes not immediately all about getting a kiss from Eric the moment she sees him, something the original didn't have. One little problem: IT DIDN'T/DOESN'T NEED IT! As has been repeated over and over, Ariels wish to be human wasn’t just about falling for Eric. She had a genuine love for humanity. So of course shes gonna be a little distracted by suddenly being in a human town, doing human things!
yh we know but they made it more about her fascination with humans. And as for eric they also added similarity to their characters s they can relate to each other as well as crush on each other. The live action eric is way better period.
The ORIGINAL story is actually that of a gay man writing a letter to a man he loves who is straight... It is incredibly heartbreaking.(I wish I could be a part of your world)
According to the books, Guide to the Merfolk, and Against the Tide; all of them do indeed share the same mother. And Ursula was part of the reason why she is no longer with them, hence her exiled status. Their mother apparently had same skin tone and hair color as Ariel, and the tail and body of what seemed to be a mix of a anaconda and fins like a stingray or other ray.
I love all this, Aisha is great. I wish I had seen The Little Mermaid in the theater, but life just got in the way (2023 been bugging), but I did see Barbie and I can't wait to see you do commentary on Barbie and if Aisha is there for that too, even better. That is a movie to have fun with friends.
I remembered someone said that Javier once said on an interview that the mother's womb are affected by magic, it's like the same with the scene from Tinkerbell's birth where multiple fairies presented an elements or objects to determine what type of fairy Tinkerbell is. I think it's the same with seven daughters of triton, not because he's busy being a hoe but because the seven daughters are destined to be a ruler of that specific ocean from the beginning. So I guess that explains why they are different ethnicities.
In reference to the flip of Ariel saving Eric at the end against Ursula, with translating to live action realm, there was no way Eric would have survived those currents and water while Ariel is of the ocean and a better swimmer. Also the movie established that humans killed her mother so having Eric kill another sentient being would have translated bad, also that would mean that humans killed Tritons wife AND sister. If that makes sense
My only complain is honestly that we didn’t have enough outfit (and they should have been more inspired by the original) And Ursula Im not at all convainced by The actress performance
I actually really liked Melissa's version of Ursula, I think she did pretty good. It was refreshing seeing her in a new light. There was still some comedy there but seeing her as a manipulative villain was really cool. I don't know how to explain it, something about her eyes was very made me remember how cold-blooded Ursula actually is.
The thing about the diversity with the sisters in the movie they were kind of going for like remember Brandy's Cinderella movie where they didn't question of Prince charming is a Filipino and his mother is black and his father white they just did it and roll with it
you guys are the only reaction that understands the changes in the film like with scuttle and understand that eric doesnt remember her face cause it was blurry when he opened his eyes

I went to the theater with one of my best friends to see this movie and it was much better than I thought it would be. I do still prefer the original but this was definitely one of Disney’s better live action films and I did really enjoy it! Another fun video, Monica! Always love watching your videos. 💖❤️
Of course it looks different from the animated version. This is a live action movie aimed at adults, not kids. So the crab is gonna look like a crab. The fish is gonna look like a fish. But they still talk. And Ariel's hair is still red, it's just more natural instead of the vibrant tone from the animation. Furthermore, Scuttle is portrayed as a female northern gannet diving bird (not a male seagull) because they are able to breathe underwater for a short period of time. Ursula's look and behaviour in the animated film was inspired by an American drag queen called Divine. To prepare for her role as Ursula, Melissa McCarthy actually consulted with the drag queen community. One fun little detail is when Ursula is creating the potion to become Vanessa and the main ingredient is a bottle shaped like a human stomach. This is a play on the phrase "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach". Many people miss the fact that Ursula and Triton are siblings in this version. Triton had banished Ursula from his kingdom and disowned her for practicing black magic, which is what motivates her actions. It was cut from the animation but was included in the 2007 Broadway musical. Ariel and her sisters have the same mum but they represent the seven seas which is why each of them are a different race. Regarding the opening quote: Throughout the film Ariel cannot produce tears, even when she's sad and/or crying, UNTIL she becomes a human. Scuttle's "Has Ariel killed the prince yet?" is most likely referencing the original fairy tale, in which the nameless mermaid is destined to turn into sea foam and die after the prince marries another woman. The mermaid's sisters tell her that the only way she can escape this fate is if she kills the prince with an enchanted dagger. However, the mermaid can't go through with it and instead accepts her death. Ariel 'signed' the contract by giving Ursula a scale from her mermaid tail, which actually covers up a plot hole from the animation where she literally signs it with a quill pen. Since she could clearly read and write English, why didn't she just explain herself by writing it down? There's a big chance Eric wouldn't have believed her but it's worth a try right?I Ariel is given 3 days to kiss Eric and make him fall in love with her so she can remain human permanently. Ursula cheats 3 times to keep Ariel from being able to do just that. First, she secretly puts a memory spell on Ariel so she won't remember she needs Eric's kiss to stay human, and every time she is reminded she forgets immediately or falls asleep (that wasn't in the animation). Second, she sends her pet eels to prevent Ariel and Eric from kissing at the end of Kiss the Girl. Finally, she transforms herself into a human with Ariel's voice to trick Eric into marrying her. They changed the dingelhopper scene to include Jodi Benson, the original voice of Ariel in the animation. She is the lady who gives Ariel the dinglehopper in the market. It's a symbolism of her passing the torch to Halle. Regarding the colours in the sea, someone said it's supposed to look all dark and gloomy from Ariel's perspective because that's how she sees it, which honestly makes sense. I loved the way Eric points out the star constellations to Ariel (which as a sailor he knows well) and starts guessing her name. It was such a beautiful improvement from the animated version where Sebastian just whispered her name to Eric. It added so much depth and charm to the scene. I like that Eric's character arch is more than just being the prince Ariel falls in love with. He has a backstory and a family. He, like Ariel, has a parent who believes they know what is best for their child. Eric being adopted is supposed to highlight the fact that he feels like he doesn't belong. Much like Ariel, he feels there is so much more to explore and discover, only the other way around. They share a bond over their love for collecting treasures. I really like how they fleshed out their romance more and actually showed they had a connection, instead of just 'love at first sight' and physical attraction. It also helped a lot that Halle and Jonah had an insane amount of chemistry. They also made it a lot clearer in this version that Ariel didn't want to become a human just for Eric. She was already interested and curious of life on land BEFORE she met him. Her motivations were rooted in her not fitting in and wanting to explore. She would have gone up one way or another, she just happened to have met Eric along the way. I think that’s why they added the bit about her not remembering to kiss Eric. They didn’t want the whole premise of her giving up her voice to be about chasing a guy, rather, about her chasing her dreams. Triton destroying her belongings was always the catalyst for her going to Ursula, not Eric in itself. They still kept the romance, it didn't take anything away from it. Some people have a problem with Ariel killing Ursula instead of Eric as if it takes anything away from his character. He literally saved Ariel's life when Ursula was about to kill her by throwing the harpoon. He also saved Max. Ariel may have given him a little nudge but he was almost there anyways. And even so, it still speaks to Eric's character. Just like he didn't save Ariel in exhange for her saving him. He saved her because he loved her, and more importantly because he's a decent person. Ursula trying to kill Eric made so much more sense because she didn't care about Eric, it was about hurting Ariel. I wasn't sure about Javier Bardem's portrayal of King Triton at first, but the more I think about it the more I like it. In the animation he clearly had some anger issues, and while that is understandable, he doesn't have to be all screaming and intimidating to have an impact. He looks and sounds more disappointed and scared here rather than angry, which is not only a lot more respectable but also a lot more believable. He feels more like a worried father than just some big scary dude with an anger management problem. As for the acting as a whole, Halle and Melissa clearly stood out, but Jonah, Daveed, Jacob, Awkwafina and even Javier did a great job as well. Also, Jessica Alexander as Vanessa absolutely stole the 5 minutes she was on screen. As for the music, I think Halle absolutely nailed Part Of Your World. She has such an innocent and naive quality to her voice yet powerful at the same time. The power in that high note in the reprise is incredible. I love Melissa's version of Poor Unfortunate Souls. There is so much sass and character in her voice. The fact that Melissa had little to no singing experience and didn't even know she could sing is INSANE. Under The Sea translates surprisingly well to live action. Daveed Diggs adds his own flavour to it and Halle's little adlibs add so much to the song. Kiss The Girl is just magical, musically and visually. I love Wild Uncharted Waters and how it has her siren song behind it. Jonah has an amazing voice and you can hear he has a theatre backround. Also, this is random but I love how you can hear his strong English accent in every single word. For The First Time is great and allows Halle to be more playful yet vulnerable. I was appalled when I first heard Scuttlebutt, but it has grown on me and now I actually kinda like it. And while some people didn't like the ending scene with Triton, Ariel's sisters and all the other merpeople, I loved it. Yeah we didn't really see Ariel interacting with any of them besides her family, but neither did we in the animation and I still felt emotional seeing them at the end. It was kind of showing how their two worlds were forever united with their marriage. There are only really two things I have a problem with in the whole movie: The lack of Flounder and lack of Ariel's wardrobe. I didn't have any problem with the way Flounder looked, I just felt like he was absolutely useless in the movie. He barely had any lines and wasn't even on screen that much. I needed more of him. And, obviously, they could've dressed Halle in a potato bag and she still would've looked gorgeous. But Ariel's wardrobe on land felt lackluster. She wore the same blue dress the entire time! Even the dress at the end during the wedding was the same one, only in pink. What about the blue dress with the bow? Or the sparkling purple dress? The wedding dress? Why not bring them to life and just modernise them a bit? I don't feel that their reunion at the end was underwhelming like some people do. If anything, I like how simple it was and that they didn't speak. They communicated enough with their faces. At the end of the day, this is a movie about a mermaid turning into a human and fish that can talk. Not everything has to make sense. The thing is, there are some people who will never be satisfied because it will never be as good as the animated version. You can still enjoy and appreciate this movie for what it is.
If you pay attention you'll see Flounder made Sebastian shut up during the deal bc Ursula's eels were right there acting all threatening towards them, he's scared they'll do something to them
Well, it wasn’t a “she don’t need a man to save her” moment. She saved the day because it’s her story, she made the deal, she killed her dad because of the deal with Ursula, she put her home in danger, she got herself into this mess so it makes more sense that she saves herself. Also it wasn’t specified in the original that it was his ship, in the original it was just some random boat just like Ariel found a random boat to defeat Ursula. And to make matters worse, that’s her Auntie.. her own aunt f*cked her up, lied to her, MANIPULATED her, and made her take a deal that was a scam. AND KILLED HER FATHER!??? Beech if I was Ariel I would of defeated this sea b!tch too. Also Flounder in this one didn’t bring the statue to Ariel, Ariel brought it herself. (All the details that weren’t explained in the movie were explained in the Novelization) Sorry but one more tidbit. Ariel and all of her sisters have their own powers, Ariel’s is the power of healing, Tamika (the blue tail mermaid with dark skin) is strength (she literally brawls sharks) and I forget the rest. I need to get the Guide to Merfolk book. edit: And ofc each sister is from a different sea
I would've been fine with them race swapping the sisters if they explained that Triton was like Zeus and had "other fishes in his ocean". But them all coming from the same mother is 🐂 and makes no sense.
in fact it's not so much that Triton has been with a lot of women but we're talking about mermaid reproduction so we don't know how it works and it's certainly not like humans so why not😅
the lines are exactly the same because Disney isn't creative and they copy and pasted the movie accept for the 2 new amazing songs and the not so good one

OMG IS THIS AISHA U MENTIONED WHYLE WATCHIN FATE? WHEN U SAID U LIKE THAT NAME. WE LOVE
Omg YES this is her😂💗
This is actually pretty good as far as the Disney remakes go. Halle Bailey was absolutely BORN to play Ariel! Have you seen the remake of Cinderella with Lily James? IMO that is another one of the best, if not THE best, Disney remakes, would love to know what you think of that one!
It was fun having you both.
ive watched so many little mermaid reactions and this one is by far the funniest! love this movie and your vid, thanks for your time
I agree with the title of this video! This has been the BEST Disney Princess remake I have EVER Watched! 👏👏👏
Definitely one of the better Disney remakes
🫵🏽
Thank you someone had to say it
@@osmanyousif7849he’s the CEO lol
@@theryanreynoldsfan3674 it is
I agree. Best one, imo.
(I haven't seen the Cinderella remake yet.)
Everyone wake up the queen has posted ❤❤❤❤❤
Brilliant. Amazing. Incredibly produced. LOVE THE SONGS AND CGI. Also fun fact I’m watching this video while it’s storming 😂 ❤
Same, it's raining here😂
13:55 it was previously established on the boat he was adopted…
You two are hilarious 😂 I needed this reaction 🙌 & love the matching fits ❤️
I honestly liked this movie so much more than I thought I would, this was a live action done well
ps. you two are so pretty
its so dumb.
32:37, Not gonna lie, Prince Eric in this film kinda looks like my former high school principal.
I love this duo
The only things i didn't love about this live action are Javier Bardem and Scuttle. Everything else I had a ton of fun with.
The ORIGINAL story is actually that of a gay man writing a letter to a man he loves who is straight... It is incredibly heartbreaking.(I wish I could be a part of your world)
If i could change anything...i wish ALL the sea creatures could talk like the cartoon.
18:01 actually her prince is 30 something 😶
But others say 18 maybe ur right idk
I remembered someone said that Javier once said on an interview that the mother's womb are affected by magic, it's like the same with the scene from Tinkerbell's birth where multiple fairies presented an elements or objects to determine what type of fairy Tinkerbell is. I think it's the same with seven daughters of triton, not because he's busy being a hoe but because the seven daughters are destined to be a ruler of that specific ocean from the beginning. So I guess that explains why they are different ethnicities.
i didn’t realize i was so early but also you’re exactly right, this remake SERVED and STUNTED on everybody
Look up "Beyond my wildest dreams," from the Little Mermaid on Broadway. Such a similar concept to "For the First Time."
In the original, Eric was orphaned.
He is the king and queen just adopted him in this
In reference to the flip of Ariel saving Eric at the end against Ursula, with translating to live action realm, there was no way Eric would have survived those currents and water while Ariel is of the ocean and a better swimmer.
Also the movie established that humans killed her mother so having Eric kill another sentient being would have translated bad, also that would mean that humans killed Tritons wife AND sister.
If that makes sense
DVD😭😭😭 Y’all are WRONG for that lol
snow white was 14 the prince was 31.... im about to cry myself to sleep now.
The jolliest of vibes.
Ariel is 18 in this movie. Maybe they did this bc for Eric's storyline they needed him to be 21 (he was 18 in the animated movie).
The thing about the diversity with the sisters in the movie they were kind of going for like remember Brandy's Cinderella movie where they didn't question of Prince charming is a Filipino and his mother is black and his father white they just did it and roll with it
I would give it a 9/10 because where the hell were the merpeople 🧜♀️🧜 this whole time the ship on fire in the rain
omg "free dinner girl dinner" took me out!
you guys are the only reaction that understands the changes in the film like with scuttle and understand that eric doesnt remember her face cause it was blurry when he opened his eyes
I grew up with the Live Action Beauty And The Beast and merch of the movie and I quite enjoyed the movie. But this movie #1 for me
Aladdin is #2
And Beauty And The Beast is #3
Remember how in encanto the triplets all had the same parents, but all 3 looked different? Similar concept i guess with the sisters
I read in another reaction that they're different because they were born into the sea they represent
The other princesses and there men didn't have massive age gaps but snow white (14) and the prince (31) illegal straight to jail
My favorite version, and I loved the original.
Omg this is great you must invite her more often ❤
I loved this movie in the theater and I love how there’s a lot of African-American people because they do not be trying to cast black people In movies when the real movie was a white lead
there's more caribbeans in this movie since it's set there
It's about emotion, not hitting certain notes to make your career better.
That actually been the opening for a year I think 😅
Kinda off topic never realized how much Monica kinda looks like Alina starkov from shadow and bone
I think it was from the same mom.. Different DNA comes out for each daughter.
Omg i love ayeesha i want more with her lol!
Snow White is 14 and her prince is 31 :D
Oh god it’s worse than I could’ve ever imagined wtf
I really wish Eric is the One to kill Usera and save Areil's Life so show her dad that Eric can be Trusted.
And simultaneously showing his mutual love for Ariel by saving her after she saved him.
I love your reaction so much. I love this movie. I just love little Mermaid.❤🧜🏼♀️ best Disney remake and it was funny, great, amazing.
I think Jodi Benson should’ve had a bigger role, the queen maybe.
We did this in my skl play i was in kiss the girl
I went to the theater with one of my best friends to see this movie and it was much better than I thought it would be. I do still prefer the original but this was definitely one of Disney’s better live action films and I did really enjoy it! Another fun video, Monica! Always love watching your videos. 💖❤️
how dare you i love dogs
Amazing video you should try more collaborations if you feel comfortable doing so I love your content once again keeping doing great things
There's a big chance Eric wouldn't have believed her but it's worth a try right?I
Ariel is given 3 days to kiss Eric and make him fall in love with her so she can remain human permanently.
(All the details that weren’t explained in the movie were explained in the Novelization)
Sorry but one more tidbit.
So good. Love this reaction! Have you seen Wheel of Time? The second season is about to come out I would love for you to react to that🤞🏽
I would've been fine with them race swapping the sisters if they explained that Triton was like Zeus and had "other fishes in his ocean". But them all coming from the same mother is 🐂 and makes no sense.
in fact it's not so much that Triton has been with a lot of women but we're talking about mermaid reproduction so we don't know how it works and it's certainly not like humans so why not😅
Actually SnowWhite is 14 and the Prince is 32 I think
30
@@soleekgives Oh Ok HAHA
the lines are exactly the same because Disney isn't creative and they copy and pasted the movie accept for the 2 new amazing songs and
the not so good one
Actually snow white is 14 and her prince is 31😬
Try Watching One Peice if You want an Amazing Living Action Reimagining of A Show!!!
I love you guys!!!! Lol Halle Bailey was perfect for Ariel.
Have you seen RRR
Am I the only one who thinks Ursula is kinda fine? 😂😅
Thanks for including your friend.
I never like to watch a reaction to a movie somebody has already seen.
Most reactors I watch don't watch these in theaters or movie trailers.
They go in blind which makes for a great first time reaction.
So I was about to click off this video until you said your friend had not yet seen it.
I hope you consider saving the big movies in theaters and watch them first time in your reactions.
It's a sacrifice but many do it if they choose to be a reactor.
Oh and many props to you for recognizing Jodi Benson who was the original Ariel in the animation. I adored this movie as a child. And I appreciate young reactors who recognize her. She was so well known back then and she hasnt changed much. She is still beautiful.
Oh and by the way, I cannot stand Scuttles voice actress. It is so annoying. Like chalk on a board annoying. And just when I didn't think it could become more annoying Scuttle rapped. And I hated it even more.
Lol it's too bad Scuttle was not the one to lose him/her voice in the movie.
