    Please note both spray guns used a 1.4 mm fluid nozzle and the air cap that came with them the material used had the same amount of thinner mixed in. You can order the Harbor freight gun with a few tips. Both spray guns can be good depending on your goals and projects

    Good video! I have used the harbor freight cheap guns for years and yes they work just like he shows here . If I have a high viscosity material I thin it enough to get it to spray and I floor the gun with pressure and run the fluid wide open . Once they get too crappy to use ( Even if I clean them after every use ) you can pitch it and or use it for parts. Having said all that there is nothing like a good quality spay gun if you can afford it .

    If a gun like that uses 20cfm of air, most people can't use them at home with their moderate-sized compressor. Not saying that is the intended audience, but worth noting.

    I have painted dozens of cars with the HF cheap Gun.
    But there are a couple of rules with it
    1 CLEAN THE F OUT OF IT BEFORE YOU FIRST USE IT.
    2 Never ever Use it before you Manually set it. Start wide open set air in to 19-23 psi at the regulator.
    And slowly adjust to the pattern you want
    Again I have painted using the 9.99 gun (now 15.99) for years no problem.

    I bought a CH kit with two guns (big and little) for like 50 bucks. Its not the best high speed low drag super fantastic top notch bees knees but they do a fine job.
    MOST of the paint job is in the prep. I will be buying a couple hundred dollar piece for the final paint job on the cobra but for cutting in doors and doing engine bays the cheaper guns are fine.

    • @PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo
      @PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo  6 лет назад +4

      Hi Jonathan, thinning will help somewhat with the splattering called orange peel but depending on the paint there can be limits to how much you can thin a material and not get runs.

    • @MaroLuva
      @MaroLuva 5 лет назад +1

      I use the HF gun for things that will either be sanded (high build primer) or things I don't care as much about the finish (mower decks). I've found it doesn't matter how much you thin it, you'll either get that orange peel with lower pressure or too dry spray with higher pressure. It is what it is, a $10 gun. It has it's place though.

    Cheap tools & materials represent the single biggest mistake DIYers make when
    approaching these types of projects. Remember tools are NOT an expense ~ they are an investment that you make in order to achieve superior results. They can then be sold for 80-90% of their value once the job is done and in the end it will cost less than renting. These 2 budget HVLP Systems are the best hold their value: 1st choice: Fuji 2202 Semi-PRO 2 (2203 gravity version) & 2nd choice: Earlex HV5500.

      Except there would be no DIYers without entry level equipment... No DIYer is going to go buy a 300$-500$ Devlibiss (which I own), they also likly dont need one.
      I have run hundreds of gallons of Rustoleum Enamel through many purple guns and they are perfectly fine once adjusted correctly and the project being painted is not a show car or a lambo. I have an use more expensive gear and unless I need "perfect paint" I stick to the $10 purple gun and the $50 HF "pro" gun...
      I've painted everything from workbenches to machine tools to farm implements to my 4runner and its trailer with the purple guns and 4:3:1 rutoleum. It works, its cheap and the results are more then fine for 99% of the applications I need to spray.
      Sorry if painting my own gear makes me "too poor" ... I might argue the reason Im actually not poor is I dont pay people to do things that I can do myself and achieve results that are as good and better than necessary given the application. Aka Im not paying for your gear to spray a show quality paint on a tool, offroad toy or piece of equipment that actually get used and worked hard IRL.

    All the reviews show performance and not the nitty gritty of what exactly makes a gun more expensive? They all work on the same principal, pushing air and material through holes. Can a cheap cap, nozzle and needle be polished for performance? A hole drilled in a cheap gun is the same diameter as drilled in a expensive gun and has such a dramatic effect on performance. So when it boils down to construction what is it that sets them apart. To head you off at the pass, what makes them quality parts?

    • @PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo
      @PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo  6 лет назад +1

      QQTrick1QQ while you can still a hole in a budget air cap it is not engineered typically to maximize performance for a range of spray needs a gun like that shown uses 20 cfm of air a budget gun will use about 5 which is largely in the design of the way air flows through the gun this results in the wider spray patterns and better break up of thicker paints. Additionally a expensive gun offers many ways to set the gun for your particular paint offering 8 or so fluid tips and air caps gives you the ability to make the gun work best for your materials. Additionally the gun will be made of stainless steel not sure if all budget guns are. These are some of the main differences

    • @QQTrick1QQ
      @QQTrick1QQ 6 лет назад +3

      Thanks for the reply, stainless steel and precision holes can make a 6-700 buck price swing seems crazy In compare to a $600 HD 60 inch TV with 100's of precision parts. But you can't spray with a TV.
