    Hey Jerry, since you have an "in" with S&W, how about getting them to make a real competition ready handgun? They need to come out with something to compete with Sig and Canik. The only S&W's I see at the matches is the new guys trying out competition for the first time. After a few months you will see them upgrade to something else. S&W needs to step up their game.

    That looks so much more fun to shoot then my 460 and 500 x frames or my BFR in 444 Marlin... it would probably be a pretty fun gun to hunt with also.

    • @CGT80
      @CGT80 2 года назад +3

      Reloads are more fun in the 460 THAN factory..........actually I have never shot factory ammo from my 460 but have loaded hot 240 and 300 grain loads. A5744 powder (reduced rifle load powder) is great for 44 mag level loads in the 460. It still packs a punch but is easier on the hands, ears, and face with less recoil and concussion. I chose the 460 due to the common bullet diameter and 45 colt case option for plinking loads. I wasn't expecting the recoil to be so low on the 350 version........it would be fun to try. After I shoot lever action silhouette matches, I like to practice with the 460 on the same targets. This would likely be a good gun for the same.

    • @phoenixrising4073
      @phoenixrising4073 2 года назад +2

      I shot a 460 one time. Tried 454 casull first then an underwood or Buffalo bore round, can't remember the brand but I remember that recoil. Holy smokes it's an event every time you squeeze that trigger. 44 magnum seemed comfy after shooting the 460 lol.

  • @rjakiel73
    @rjakiel73 2 года назад +4

    Meh... A 7.5" barrel on a 357 magnum running hot loads will push 158 grain pills at 1600fps or slightly better. A minimal difference in projectile weight from a handgun and caliber which is much more readily available as well as much smaller and lighter pistol overall. Alternitavely a 185gr 460 Rowland in an autoloader is hitting 1600fps as well in a much lighter and compact package and you have 15rds on tap. I guess this thing is nifty if you're complementing your 350 Legend rifle but if I am going to be lugging an X Frame revolver around for hunting it's gonna be a 460SW at a minimum. At least with that you're getting insane ballistics from a hand cannon.

    Seeing the performance of the 350L out of that revolver makes me really appreciate my Encore in 357mag. It's about the same size as the 350L revolver, but with proper magnum powders and no cylinder gap, 170gr @ 1600fps is in the "without breaking a sweat" area.

  • @thetrekkingwoodsman2051
    @thetrekkingwoodsman2051 2 года назад +4

    I actually really like the ideas behind creating the 350 legend. It’s smart to utilize both the most popular rifle case (necked out) and match it to the most popular pistol bullet dimension, really smart idea and I think a revolver is an excellent platform for it. However, the X-frame… Really S&W? Why do we need a five pound gun for this? Couldn’t they have beefed up the N-frame and extended the cylinder and made a safe and comfortable carry platform for this gun? Hell, I will just take a Ruger in 454 Casull. X-frames are ridiculously heavy and huge, I could just grab my AR for about the same weight and better performance. If you’re going to get an X-frame then get a 460 or 500 magnum.

    • @plumbbobslim9313
      @plumbbobslim9313 2 года назад

      They probably had to put it in an X- frame because of the pistols cylinder length so as to accommodate the overall cartridge length.
      There's just no way getting around the cartridges OAL in a smaller frame package.

    • @thetrekkingwoodsman2051
      @thetrekkingwoodsman2051 2 года назад

      @@plumbbobslim9313 I think the idea of carrying a 4-5 lb handgun just to save on a little recoil is a little dumb. I guess I am in the mindset that a handgun should be under 3.5 lbs and if it is intended for hunting, then some recoil should be expected and trained for.
      If Dan Wesson can make a packable sized gun for the 357 maximum decades ago, then S&W can certainly do the same with the 350 Legend.
      I believe they could have shaved a lot of weight off the X-frame by getting rid of the full underlug, similar to the Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull.
      Again, I just like simple and packable, because that is the whole point of a handgun. However, people buy what they like and I'm sure the 350 Legend X-frame will be popular with Southern shooters who want a lower recoil handgun strictly for hunting.

      Agree, let’s bring back the maximum.

      Simple to match the rifles in the same caliber and very popular caliber

    Ahh, 350 Legend; a VERY hot-rod 9mm. But it’s to be expected when you have an “engine” that big!

    First off.. what's not to like about a short lightweight points fast low recoil accurate rifle.. that has readily available ammo which is also inexpensive??
    The 350 Legend wasn't designed to take the place of ANY cartridge ❤️
    It was designed for a low recoil inexpensive option to hunt deer and defend your property!
    In this day and age.. most people want faster flatter high bc bullets that can shoot a mile.. however.. most hunters want a firearm that has readily available ammo and can cleanly harvest game inside of 200 yards! This cartridge is that and more!
    The Legend like it or not punches above it's paper ballistics. Also..it will knock the snot out of the biggest buck in the woods too!
    All this being said.. it's still a choice! Not the best choice for many.. but a reasonable choice for all :)
    PS.. I went down the rabbit hole in 2019.. and fell in love after the very first shot! Why.. cause I know that I shoot better groups with cartridges that have low recoil! Plus my neck and shoulders appreciate it too :)

    Why in the world do you mute and speed up the film to tone down the noise of the gun when it fires in the video? Annoying!

    For having a muzzle velocity of 1640 fps with a 170 grain bullet I think I'd rather have a 357. It would be a whole lot lighter.

    • @MrFrankenfab
      @MrFrankenfab 2 года назад

      It's quite a bit faster than the 357 Maximum in a 7.5" barrel with the same bullet weight. But, I'm with you on preferring the much wider .358 bullet selection, and a rimmed cartridge case.

      @@MrFrankenfab I we can pull up factory and hand load data for the 357 mag, 357 max and 350 legend. I am not debating which has more velocity. That being said a 170 gr projectile at 1640 fps out of a 4 pound plus pistol is not appealing to me when I can use a lighter 357 revolver with a 158 grain bullet going at say 1400. that 240 fps is not enough (for me) to buy this x frame. I have a 500 S&W x frame. It is a heavy firearm to walk with from sun up till sun down.

      Out of a 7" 686, you can get closer to 1600-1700 from a 158.

    Jerry your grip seems to work lol but I absolutely LOVE the Ergo Delta grip for the j frame. Hace you tried it and do you think it could work on a larger pistol?

    I could do those 100 yard shots with my .38 snubby off hand double action.
    If not for these damn floaters.

    I wasn't really expecting quite that big of a velocity loss, that's just a sneeze more than a good hot .357 mag would do out of that long of a barrel isn't it? I realize this is somewhat novelty, but it does seem like a 7.5" 357 would do Essentially the same thing and weigh half as much, also at those velocities I wonder if the legend will even mushroom, where a .357 would have no issues in that department

    Can you shoot .357, .38spl, 9mm and .380 out of the .350 legend revolver?
    Taurus has a .357 platform out that’s capable of those 4 rounds. Just wondering if it’s a step up with .350 legend.

    Thank you Jerry but I'll stick to the J, K, L, and N frames. The unusual S&W calibers I want are 327 Magnum and 32 S&W. The 350 and 500 aren't appealing to me.
