DCS: AH-64D Status Report

  • Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
  • We have made tremendous progress on the AH-64D. Release ready items include the external model and internal cockpit models, pilot and gunner high resolution models, external and internal lighting and sounds, IHADS , MPD pages, PNVS, TADS and sensors, 30mm cannon, Hydra unguided rockets, laser-guided Hellfire missiles, the ASE, CMWS, George AI pilot and phase one of the DM.
Despite suffering from the most recent variant of COVID-19 the team has accomplished a minor miracle and the Early Access is very close to being available for release. However, certain aspects still require extra polish notably; flight control system heading, attitude and altitude hold modes, MultiCrew, cold start, George AI co-pilot gunner, certain crew animations and system damage effects.
We understand that our decision to delay the early access release is frustrating and disappointing. Please accept our apologies. Our commitment is to deliver this exciting new aircraft to you in the nearest future, hopefully in February. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please remember that the 30% discount and extra ED Miles are still available all the way up to Early Access release.
Thank you for your passion and support,
    Yours sincerely,
    Eagle Dynamics Team

Ask yourself this, why didn't they just say the release date was for summer 2022 from the get-go? That way it gives them plenty of time and when they deliver the product in fall 22 everyone is happy and doesn't feel manipulated. When they lie about a release date it makes it feel like a cash grab. Thats dishonest. These guys knew damn well when they listed that first date it wouldn't be ready. That's obvious now. Either the project manager is disconnected from the reality of scheduling and should be shit canned or the marketing team is intentionally manipulating (we the customers) to pad/float the project buget. Man, that landing at 3:47 was on point (and it "feels" heavy just looking at it, which is what I would expect!). This is probably the first module you guys release that I honestly cant pinpoint any flaws pre-release (on the videos that is). I am baffled!
At 4:06, the changes you did to the slew speed of the camera really bring it to life. That is SO MUCH BETTER. It almost looks like the real thing (add a bit of "lag" to it, for momentum, so it doesnt instantly stop moving, see 6:21 of v=KtoseuBDEgM).
The chaingun sounds deeper than I would have imagine it would from the videos online (where the gun has a bigger "clack" to it) but to be fair, those videos are super low quality compared, so, I cant really tell. The bullet hits (explosions) are a bit underwhelming still compared to the videos online where they look more like grenades exploding than bullets (but thats a different part of the engine isnt it?).
The cockpit glass looks fantastic too, no wierd reflections or wierd tint. The S hook for the helmet seems to follow gravity related to G loading, so it barely tilts when the aircraft tilts with positive G.
The rockets reset position on landing (3:54), it just adds that extra touch.
The graphical update of the symbology in the guncam is smooth and the glyphs are rendered correctly too, which is awesome.
The wind bugs seem to be working as expected too: I can see them almost horizontal when moving forward and vertical when hovering and they dont seem "stiff" either (3:13 you can see them behaving like they have "weight" instead of blindingly following a calculated vector). I cant tell you how much this adds to emersion.
At 2:38 you can see a bit of camera shake, is that done in post or part of the experience? I hope its part of it! (it probably is because the sun-block on the left is also shaking)
A lot of improvements since the 23 Oct video "Introduction", keep at it boys.
The devil is in the details and all I can say from what I can see is: Bravo!
PS: love the white rings on the cables that go through the glass from pilot to gunner, it really conveys the thickness of that glass! Also, that thick coat of black paint (with blobs on it) on the center MFD at 2:02, goddamn!

I just began playing MSFS 2020. The feeling of being able to fly anywhere in the world, is unbelievable. The aircraft, that is more like sliding around in a card board box, blind folded, naked and with my brother. Awkward, uncomfortable, and definitely going to leave a mark.
Then there is DCS. Hands down the best aircraft I have ever flown. The immersion while flying the jets is off the charts. I can't wait to fly the Apache, but given the fact that y'all do the best aircraft anywhere, I am certainly happy to wait. I will be buying the P51 and the Channel map soon, eagerly awaiting the F4U. Can't wait for the South America map. I already pre-paid for the Apache the day that we could, since you already have my money, have a night out on the town, on me. To anyone who got the Apache as first pre-ordered module and might be disappointed about Wags's statement, do know this: first release of almost *all* modules has been quite buggy and crash-happy, some would have even been called "unplayable", to then being polished and expanded in the next 1-3 years. We all know how pressing it can be on developers to try and get big releases out before the holidays. Thank you for your integrity guys and for not pushing out something that is unacceptable to the player base, simply because it might make a little more money. Take as long as you need!

Has anything else in DCS had things moving in the cockpit like that? The little hook on the handle and the vibrating thing to the left of it (A vent, maybe?) look really cool.
Also, it was an awesome little bit of detail watching all of the weapons level out when the Apache got weight on the wheels.

Well kinda, the Dashboard pannel in the huey jiggles around at high speed, the little fan in the hind vibrates when not on etc. there are small details here and there, and they are neat

hey, do you intend to launch this wonder on consoles like the PS5 or X Box Seris? many console players have a huge interest in your simulador... Sorry if english is bad I'm using google translator hope you understand :)

    • @D20000
      @D20000 2 года назад

Never. It's pc master race only, just kidding but no really this game doesn't even run smooth on super computers if you're playing multiplayer with a ton of people and have your ground radar and targeting pod on, and how would you even click on stuff with your controller while you are in a dogfight? I mean, maybe, it's really difficult on pc too so that's why you should use your hotas.. But no. Just install it on your pc, it will run fine if you play single player on low (if your pc sucks). Also, a tip for non-native English speakers like I myself: Use an extension called "LanguageTool" on your browser. It's amazing and corrects all your spelling and even grammar mistakes. It even make sentences more exciting to read and will make you seem like you're a professional to everyone. I'm telling you this because you are saying your english is bad which I don't mind because it's readable and understandable enough, I advice this to everyone that excuses him or herself for that. Ok, this comment is way to long, lmao. Blame the extension! (not affiliated with them btw. It's free.)

What they could do is release a sort of Flaming cliffs or M.A.C. version on the new gen consoles which plays more like a UBER charged Ace Combat, way more realistic and way more fun though! Kinda like War Thunder realism mode, but then even better. Just a little less click intensive like the full fidelty flight models they have like the Viper, Hornet, Tomcat, Harrier.. just to name a few of my favorites.

While I appreciate the honesty and everyone’s patients, I must say I’m very disappointed. The first delay was excruciating and a further delay with a “hopefully” in February is killing me. I bought a beta testing module, I fully understand it is not finished, and never expected it to be. Everyone moaned about the Viper when it came out, I agreed it had issues, but that’s what I bought, an open beta testing module. I just hope ED is not trying too hard to release a perfect beta module straight out to try and please people who buy beta and then moan about things not working. I’m just sad/frustrated/disappointed and venting in RUclips comments, don’t mind me.
P.S. It looks totally amazing already, I can’t wait. Well done so far.

    Dear friends at DCS,
I think I speak for the community as a whole when I say that *WE* thank you for not only your hard work but for making the hard decisions to delay something this big when you're not entirely satisfied with the results yourselves.
The past year we've seen AAA developers release half-baked games and utter failures to market. Whereas you as a team have decided to delay to give us the most polished item you can. We appreciate that more than you know.

Looks so good already. I do have one question, when you touch down in the video, the Rockets and Missile racks also dropped, what is meaning behind that, is it a make them level for maintenance groundwork etc because the aircraft is at an angle when on the ground?

Wags - this video is simply a work of art. Many of us old timers have been waiting since the mid-80's for a "real" AH-64 Gunship simulation. The Apache has always fascinated me and what your team is producing represents what can only be described as THIS old timer's fantasy come true. Thank you, Eagle Dynamics! To me, a few more months to wait, compared to the 36-ish years of waiting since Microprose released Gunship back in the day is nothing. Thanks for keeping us informed! As long as ED has products to sell, I am a customer. 😊

    Truthful Edit:
We lied about our development and released a few screenshots and videos to advertise the preorder, we consistently knew it wouldn’t be ready but thought we would increase profits at Christmas and pretended it would be released then, we’ve unfortunately approached our other pretend date and needed to baffle you all with some more cool videos of something we promised last year, we believe it’s very important to raise more funds and may or may not look at releasing the version we could of in December (if it weren’t for the profits), but quick look a rocket and 30mm gun ooooooo and a swinging carabiner
