    Very impressive! You achieved pretty much the same goal as Stuff Made Here with probably 1% of the budget and 1% of the complexity. That's a mighty impressive feat. Congrats!

    I love how incredibly advanced your projects get while you keep maintaining the "if I can do it, anyone can do it" character. Absolutely awesome!!!!!

    • @gorak9000
      @gorak9000 Год назад +3

      I think you're confused, "If I can do it, YOU can do it" is Eric O's line over at South Main Auto. But yeah, I like how he kind of pretends like he's just f'ing around in the shop, but he's actually amazing at building stuff and puts a lot more effort into it than he admits in the videos!

    • @alexhri
      @alexhri Год назад +2

      @@gorak9000 oh no, that's exactly what I'm saying. By no means is this a case of "anyone can do it". It's the character he's playing: pretending that what he's doing is easy, even though it requires a lot of skill and experience.

    so much love for this. you can actually do a transformation to you point cloud/image file to correct out the circular aberration in a simple sinusoid transform. You can find more on the wiki for projection from Euclidean to Riemannian space, then you can leave all your cnc in the box cuz who wants to mess with that and just pre process instead.

I only watch that channel so I can see her look all skeptical at him, and only after it's been out for a week. I see your video, I click. Using a door switch as a cnc probe is a million times cooler than anything that other channel has done. Except that one time he made an unpickable lock. Gotta admit that was genius. What I would do to see cranktown make a lock cobbled together out of scrapyard/2nd hand store parts. I would click on the video, that's what I would do.

    Thats cool, mapping flat things onto spherical ish things (and vice versa) isnt an exact science, and there really isn't a right way to do it. Just look at all the different world map projections. So those distortions you got are par for the course. Anything that looks like a straight and true square will only look that way from one angle. Spheres are weird things, you can trace a triangle with three straight lines and three right angles on a sphere.
    I think your machine how straight XY lines follow the longitude and latitude is probably the most "accurate".

    Seems like there would be software available for a polar coordinate system. GE made some welding robots that used a polar coordinate system. Otherwise, it's a pretty simple concept. You have a theta, angle, measure for one direction set in one plane set at 90 degrees or pi/2 radians to another, kind of like your lazy susans. Then you have a radius measurement from the center which would represent your spindle measure.
