Quick suggestion about RC safety, which you may very well already know: Make sure your receiver kills the entire machine as soon as the connection to the remote is lost. It depends on the type of communication, but some receivers can get stuck with a control actuated if they lose signal at the wrong time. Since the remote doesn't have a connection at that point, the relay also won't help. Basically as soon as the remote disconnects, the machine should be considered unsafe and it should shut down immediately. Also, your bucket/arm controls seem like they could get stuck due to the handle going underneath your metal guidebars (5:26 is pretty close).
I did configure it to shut the whole machine off at the relay when it loses signal. My bad, I guess I left that out of the video. And that's a good point I didn't think of, may have been what got the bucket stuck while unloading!
Was about to comment this lol. Flysky should be good to 1km as far as radio link (was flying even 3km far, but flying high!) also you get low battery warning, but still.
5:46 The RC radio transmitter has all kinds of settings, like trimming and exp/lin curves for these kinds of things, probably faster than reflashing the arduino
I think you’re my favorite RUclips channel because I can relate to you on your desires, but I really really admire your problem solving and tenacity (that I don’t have, but wish I did). Keep the cool videos coming.
Dude you're one of my favorite channels. There are a lot of other diy (dont really know how else to call it) channels that feel a bit unapproachable and; not to rag on any of them or anything I love pretty much everyone in that space, even pretentious at time. But your videos always feel so down to earth. Watching you is always just so cool because I find myself thinking "damn yea you could just do that couldn't you" and sometimes even "damn I might be able to do that one day!" Despite my efforts to the contrary I've spent a lot of time doing hard labor for a living, and seeing a guy whose done the same shit making the kinds of things you do is just genuinely inspiring I guess. I hope your channel takes off man. I love every upload
Better yet, 360 cameras and computer vision, Get an AI to do the whole job! Let the computers make the money so he can stick to building full size Battlebots!
Only explanation that I can think of it it’s the low amount of uploads. YT likes more crapy faster upload content than great slower rate ones like his. I love this channel! By far one of my favorites.
Wilson's funky punk sister! 8:50 (Wilson was a gear that Wintergatan Martin, from the musical Marble Machine - killer song btw - has cut, which became his pet)
This is friggin sweet!! On the steering homing on low battery- if you're using a hardcoded "midpoint" value, you might see improvement by using 2 resistors in a voltage divider, using analog read to measure the voltage between the resistors and use that as the mid point. I'm thinking when the voltage sags the middle of the potentiometer might be less than the hardcoded midpoint value, but if its all handled by the receiver then that throws all this out the window and gives an "exciting" driving experience 😂
Kickass! Could add a couple more potentiometers to the bucket and arm then you could have preset bucket positions! Set to ground plane, travel, dump-ready, dump, type thing. Actual 360 rotary encoders might be more accurate and sturdy though, heh heh. The eventual spinner or pincer will kickass too!
Dude, that is flawl'ish. I want one! ...but with multiple cameras, even 360 view cameras, for FPV control from a lawn chair where I can stretch out and sunbathe while getting shit done too. Bravo!
You still have the best ideas and video compositions on RUclips. I love your ideas 💡 I love your editing and your humour is such a breath of fresh air into the alco-rhythm that is slowly turning the tube into boredom by suggestion! Thank you for being you ❤
I love it! great job dude! I had a thought while watching the pain you were experiencing with the Potentiometer... try using a rotary encoder, they are more painful to arduino with but there's tons of guides/sample code available and they don't have hard limits so you can't accidintally over rotate and stuff them up. Great video as always, keep em coming :)
To make the vid more accessible (to me) I would have liked a little overview of how the bobcat is supposed to be steered. I have never seen, let alone used, such an artifact. I mean, 80% of your viewers are probably office guys, like me, dreaming of building something manly with their hands. (The Pros watch your channel purely for amusement ;) Showing a picture with the controls intact and pointing out how they work would be nice. Or maybe just a link to another vid from some other creator. Anywhoo: I really enjoy the onscreen commentary. LoL (lots of love), chris :D
i didnt realize how much ive been needing one of your vids. you have quitely made it to my top 3 creaters. excellent work im already anticipating your next vid. DINGER!
On that gear box thing looks like a window elevator of a old Toyota. You know, you could have placed a multi turn potentiometer, or a rotation encoder, or a really fancy hall effect sensor system. Now add some cameras and you can work safely.
I can see this being used in so many ways. obviously the usual ways, but also landmine clearance, biological/radiological clean up, attach a machine gun to the top...
Yeah, I was thinking he needed to make something for the Safety Third guys if he wants to boost his numbers. He'd probably get a lot of new eyes like thee guy who made the leather forklift (backhoe? tractor?) controls.
@@JD2jr. I think his style would be a breath of fresh air for William. From what I’ve seen William has major anxiety around his videos and the structure around them. Cranktown is the exact opposite, (from what he shows us) and just goes for it.
If he continues at this speed, he's gonna have a remote controlled car before the end of 2025. 17:31 "good" is one word to describe it. "Health hazard" was what came to my mind. No idea why.
That being a flysky transmitter you can use the ibus arduino library to read all the channels instead of all the wires for each channel you can just use one serial connection
Freakin sweet build. Love how well it worked. Makes me also wonder if you could use CV to steer it automatically given that you dabbled in it in a prev video.
Interesting stuff brother. Very cool electrics brother, not really complicated. Its scary but I understand the way you think when you are creating. New sub to you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.😎😎⛏⛏🔥🔥
Back in around the year 2000 me and ma dad went on robotwars a few times,,,, our first robot was essentiall a mobility scooter instide,,, two servose moved the hand joystick,, worked perfect,,, and you deffo should put the steering pot on the gear instead
Beautiful, looking forward to bobcat battlebots.
Dude me too, fingers crossed 🤞
Bobcat size battle bots would be something to see.. spinners in that size 😁
I second and third this progression!
youre like the most motivated person ive ever watched on youtube
10:05 Welding over the warning stickers on the Bobcat is the perfect summary of this whole video 😂 love it!
RUclips has many perfectionists. I appreciate your get 'er done attitude
Bobcat battlebots is going to be amazing.
imagine full size spinners...

@@cranktowncity You can make collars like those found inside a gear box, that way is less like to get stuck.

At 12:04, that transition to the CAD animation was too clean. Absolutely amazing what you are able to produce while still holding down your day job.
5:46 The RC radio transmitter has all kinds of settings, like trimming and exp/lin curves for these kinds of things, probably faster than reflashing the arduino
Dude, I used to DREAM about car-sized battlebots in the old days. I hope you get to build them sooner rather than later.
I am totally chipping in for Bobcat battle bots.
LFGoooooo
Holy shit man thank you very much!!
Excellent project as always.
Thank you!

I have no idea why you don't have a lot more subscribers.
I can't understand why you don't have more subs. The just get it working attitude is such a refreshing change.

The most metal thing I've seen today!
Hell yeah!
That's a cool monitor arm
Structural burr for aesthetics...yoo-hoo! I'm impressed. Great job and video squire.
Now an FPV setup would be sweet
My first thoughts😂
Better yet, 360 cameras and computer vision, Get an AI to do the whole job! Let the computers make the money so he can stick to building full size Battlebots!
Much love & respect, your cousin Dionne (Dave's daughter) I am completely loving this build.
How the hell do you only have 47k subs! This has got to be one of the best channels on youtube!

dude, I wish your channel was bigger. You deserve to have some real money. Your talent shouldn't be wasted.
I really like your videos!
It’s very satisfying to see your problem solving skills.

I am so here for Bobcat battle bots. Everyone that can send a thanks so we can see this!

That's cool AF! Love your work bother!
Your channel is by no small margin my favorite. It’s always clever simple solutions(made complicated cuz reasons) to such a variety of problems.
Mate, that gearbox _alone_ was feck'n incredible :) Bravo, once again
Bobcat battlebots seems like a juicy idea to me 👌
Amazing. I can't wait for battle bobcats!
Best channel ever! Learn so much from every episode. Enjoying the Arduino builds
Always fun to watch your madness unfold

Haha I wouldn't go that far but hey I'm learning!
@@cranktowncity Well, you can! Anyone who'd dispute your position.... **pointing at battle-bob-cat**
This time on the Post Apocalyptic Fence Guy… making RC construction equipment.
Haha I love it
Dude you are such a freaking champion. Congratulations on the build! Keep it up!
that's cool! you should put a FPV camera on there so you have live video feedback wherever you're controlling it!
Absolutely smashing.

Crank town throwing down
You and William Osman are engineer goals for me
Love your work mate
Always happy to see a new video!! You rock man, great idea.
Always been a natural engineer. cheers m8, you look different from last time I saw you

That Plumb joke was good
Wow you just go from strength to strength 😲 awesome work as ever
Now that is badass.
All the work to get here was worth it! :D
Love your videos, thank you for doing what you do
Ready for BBB !!!!!!

Here's a good ole dinger, this was pretty epic! 👍
Don’t forget to optimize/game your title and thumbnail! The current one kinda sucks but this project and your delivery are spot on.

I really like it that you bought the same receiver/transmitter combo as i did.

Add a wifi enabled 360 cam that has image stablization and a VR or AR eyewear setup.

How is this guy not working for SpaceX yet?? BattleDozers on Mars...
Dingger given! What a beautiful monstrosity 😂
epic conversion! maybe replace the knob on the arm/bucket control lever with a longer steel cylinder?
that was neat
Oh heck yeah!
Love it!
Id strongly recommend a estop bar or something else like estops on all sides
Doctor "Zeus" approves. More amps!
This was epic! I wish it was good enough to use for work though?? Seems pretty close
