    Those gulls just killed me hahaha! But I just love these overengineered contraptions that work because they work, and if they don't you can fix them yourself. Take that, Home Depot!!! :D
    Also severly entertaining production ... and those gulls, did I mention the gulls??? XD

  • @watahyahknow
    @watahyahknow Год назад +8

    the first blinds where a bit clunky but hiding everything behind the cove made it look ok
    the second ones where realy nicely made , you might be able to get the second ones to leave less of a gap in the middle if you shorten the loops that hold the magnets a little (stick two safety pins through them over the top of the rail)
    think over time the magnets will wear through the cloth if you leave them like that , you could 3d pint some pipes that hold the magnets and the front loop , probably makes a bit more noise but shouldnt wear out the curtains

    This was great, especially the magnet idea for the curtains! I've been toying with various ideas for opening curtains lately as well, and this gave me some new ideas to consider. For the blinds in the first part, I wonder if there's a way to modify the original mechanism to be able to simply attach a smaller motor to the original gears instead of an external one. I definitely understand using what you have laying around when it comes to projects, though.. especially if you have the same bad habits of hoarding tons of random parts like a lot of us that make things.

    I have a belt driven curtain and it's on a timer with IFTTT. I had to buy larger curtains and sew them to the correct size. Also made the decorative box with the same curtain material. Took 4 days.

    • @newmonengineering
      @newmonengineering Год назад

      I think the box is called a valance or something like that. It's light weight material foam with a layer of 1/8 wood. And stapled the curtain material around it. The belt goes down the track the curtain hooks slide on. The motor is on one side ans stays hidden by part of the curtain that never moves

  • @arthurlolinger

    a simple explanation that te roller dont fall down ur is pulled up is that it has 2 springs that exert the same force and so you have a balance betwen tham and there is no force that acts downwards or upwards because both forces cancel each other out. It's like two people of the same strength pulling a rope. Nothing moves there either. Thats also the reason why you kann pull it up whit your pinky than it gifs no force downwards

    For the folding blinds could you not have a pipe like for your curtains but you have to geared up steppers in the center and a line running to the edge and down that pulls it up? I under stand if you have to steppers more could go wrong. This comment is mainly so you get in peoples recommended.

I tried a few years back and the blinds lasted about five minutes before my idiot pooch decided there was something outside the window that needed to be killed to death and then it was woof-woof-scratch-scratch-paw-paw-growl-growl and it all went in the bin. I'll stick to curtains.
