I'm shocked that those magnets were able to pull the curtains.
Yep, I was expecting a fight right there
The truth is in the silicon spray
+1
This guy is soo underated, needs more subs
Those gulls just killed me hahaha! But I just love these overengineered contraptions that work because they work, and if they don't you can fix them yourself. Take that, Home Depot!!! :D
Also severly entertaining production ... and those gulls, did I mention the gulls??? XD
I could watch those birds for days.
the curtain mechanism is genius 😂
Ngl it’s brilliant
I loved how the magnets started their life in those printed parts crispy clean and a few transitions later they were of the same color as your hands. 😁
Great video man, have a hug.
I hate, hate, hate, magnet projects, but I have to admit the curtain design was pretty slick.
Enjoyed that especially the magnet idea for coupling the curtains
You deserve way more views. Ingenious and interesting.
Since you lowered thr bar the content has been amazing. Thanks for the effort
9 minutes in I thought that was great, realised there was still loads more video. Those curtains really took this to the next level.
You are like a combination of all the RUclipsrs i like to watch, Colin Furze, Ave, greatscotts, TOT, Fireballtools, thanks for all the content !
That was awesome, it probably takes watching a couple of videos before the viewer realizes this dude is damn near genius level
That magnetic one is freaking awesome! definitely deserve a singer!
Man, your videos become more and more entertaining by the minute
Hi Stella! She's precious brotha! Pro tip include her in more vids you will get clicks. And with how awesome your channel is, you deserve them.
I have the same thing going on in my mind some days...only it's 2 magpies and they prefer techno as opposed to drum and bass. Awesome vid man.
Finally a video without over complicated fancy words, thank you mate
This is very cleverly designed.... Well the second one was cleverly designed and the first one troubleshot. Great work!
Seeing this makes me feel better about the jank factor of my own projects. Thanks for sharing!
I work in a high end window treatment company and I also love shitbox vehicles and mechanisms, the algorithm is getting too powerful
the first blinds where a bit clunky but hiding everything behind the cove made it look ok
the second ones where realy nicely made , you might be able to get the second ones to leave less of a gap in the middle if you shorten the loops that hold the magnets a little (stick two safety pins through them over the top of the rail)
think over time the magnets will wear through the cloth if you leave them like that , you could 3d pint some pipes that hold the magnets and the front loop , probably makes a bit more noise but shouldnt wear out the curtains
Having everything inside the copper pipe is clever as heck!
Yaaaay! A Cranky vid *ALWAYS* improves my day!!!
This was great, especially the magnet idea for the curtains! I've been toying with various ideas for opening curtains lately as well, and this gave me some new ideas to consider. For the blinds in the first part, I wonder if there's a way to modify the original mechanism to be able to simply attach a smaller motor to the original gears instead of an external one. I definitely understand using what you have laying around when it comes to projects, though.. especially if you have the same bad habits of hoarding tons of random parts like a lot of us that make things.
I just tried something like this, but may have you beat for slowest damn shade: I used a threaded rod and a little 5v stepper motor to vertically lift/pull down on a cordless shade. Glacial!
Love the magnet curtain.
The copper rod idea is excellent. Nice one home assistant homie.
Woo more videos!! i watch I like I share🎉🎉🎉🎉
the magnet curtains come with a manual overide wich is pretty neat
Man I really need to dig into Home Assistant. Always other projects
Dude, patent those curtains!! Drop what you're doing, and do it now.
Very entertaining, and I like how you're actually build stuff with the tools you got. Unlike many other channels, that only use their tools to improve their tools.
The second one was quite clever!
Great solution for the curtains! 👏🏻👍🏻
Very creative approach - I am very pleased you didn't go the route of just copying those add-on string pullers that all the HA folks seem super interested in!
I love it, man! It’s great!
Love your stuff!!
Perfect👍
Automagic!
Great
This is some insane overkill
Sick project!
This is great!
Great show! And great idea too.
Kudos! Really ingenious curtain mechanism!
Good job there! How is it you still have 35K subscribers... you should be by 1M by now with this content.
A nice ramp up/down at the start and end would make that sound even cooler :)
Brother, your channel and videos are so good. I'm here for the entire ride
really cool build. Nothing beats doing it yourself
Fantastic, Thankyou for the ideas! Now off to figure out how to automate 32 plantation shutter segments :-)
The seagull bit got me every time 😂. Excellent project sir!
just here to leave a dinger
I have a belt driven curtain and it's on a timer with IFTTT. I had to buy larger curtains and sew them to the correct size. Also made the decorative box with the same curtain material. Took 4 days.
I think the box is called a valance or something like that. It's light weight material foam with a layer of 1/8 wood. And stapled the curtain material around it. The belt goes down the track the curtain hooks slide on. The motor is on one side ans stays hidden by part of the curtain that never moves
Awesome build man
First time RUclips has recommended this channel. It feels a little like This Old Tony, AvE, and iDubbz had a tech baby.
I was laughing at you over the magnet actuated curtains. But it works. Who's laughing now?
True to his word, he didn't raise the bar in this one. He built two robots to do it for him👍
Nice work man!
Despite the quite recognizable seagull thought processes the things you built are getting really nice and clean.
These came out great!!! Love the vids!!
also useful to securely open/close the entrance of the batcave :D
Great stuff as always. I recently got a puppy and am about to copy your previous design.
You gotta jump on the ESPHome bandwagon dude. The microcontroller setup is painless, and you can update your firmware remotely within homeassistant. And the latest version of ESPHome supports raspberry pi pico boards too.
Love it! That's the kind of window treatments I like! Been meaning to get into home automation (the software I mean) so maybe this'll get me moving.
❤ love your content.👌🏻👍🏻
left a fat dinger
That is a little overkill of a contraption for a window blind😂
The curtain idea is actually quite good from an engineering point of view! You definitely have some vision in mechanics.
Keep up the great work fella !
Nice video mate, I feel that everything in the house needs to be automated now like the oven, the fridge, the front door... hahaha
This is golden :D
The cut on your knuckle reminded me that in my family a project isn't really a project until it's got some blood on it. In our case, it's usually enthusiasm over competence. 😂
That magnet thin is so sick! Its so discreet. Also you can thread wood?! Why have I never tried that?! Love this idea.
Nice work 👏 For such projects I recommend geared dc motor with limit switches. It is a cheaper solution. And the motor and the driver are smaller. 12v is ok. You may use car window motors with gears. 👍 JGY 370
This seems to leave a high bar feeeling, remember to lower it!
Actually, birds are smart birds, they automatically generate rain sounds with their feet to attract worms.
Wait, you turn your kitchen lights on manually?
I guess you arent yet deep enough down the smart home rabbit hole.
I have to say though, the second version really is great, if my house didnt come with electric shutters I would have definetly tried this.
Gears and bobbins? I just assumed there were tiny chipmunks in there.
what does your mrs think of all the new home improvements?
lol. you could move the entire window up and down with the size of that motor 😆
a simple explanation that te roller dont fall down ur is pulled up is that it has 2 springs that exert the same force and so you have a balance betwen tham and there is no force that acts downwards or upwards because both forces cancel each other out. It's like two people of the same strength pulling a rope. Nothing moves there either. Thats also the reason why you kann pull it up whit your pinky than it gifs no force downwards
Hmm i think the stepper motor is slightly to big.
Nothing wrong with being a nerd 😀
Fuck yeah
Always entertaining:)
*NAH* still don't know how those VENETIAN BLINDS work- _ed_ 😂 ...But nice _cheating_ on that one
Your MAGIC MAGNET *FU* seems also sort of *GENIUS*
_...always fun to watch your stuff 👍👍👍_
For the folding blinds could you not have a pipe like for your curtains but you have to geared up steppers in the center and a line running to the edge and down that pulls it up? I under stand if you have to steppers more could go wrong. This comment is mainly so you get in peoples recommended.
I love that you always exaggerate like that
With my MQTT server [on an old raspi] you can use an app on your phone and keep it all 'in house' literally on wifi.,, avoiding the cloud and its nefarious peepers. I call mine an 'idiot savant' home vs smart home... obvious reasons.

Upvote for Stella.
Get black filament so printed parts keep looking black even after you grease them up good ; )
How do you have doggos and blinds? I tried a few years back and the blinds lasted about five minutes before my idiot pooch decided there was something outside the window that needed to be killed to death and then it was woof-woof-scratch-scratch-paw-paw-growl-growl and it all went in the bin. I'll stick to curtains.
Make them voice command
Nice
Ich würde Dir einen 5 KW Motor empfehlen.
I'm in
How much $ was that ibc tote and where did you get it?
Holy crap, could you get a bigger motor? 😂
Can you make them move faster?
Where can I get one?
The song was from SpongeBob right?
Robot Krabs episode
Next you can build a robot to wash that window - holy geezus that thing is FILTHY. Do you live in an old semi cab sleeper at the dump or something? Watch out for the dump bees Ray
