Hey PA I was the naval Carthage player. A few things to note about this fight: the battle was a scenario, the iceni player was a reinforcing army that arrives by sea and ground. The units in the forest were the army component and were set to arrive at 20m into the battle. The damn iceni wouldn't sink because he brought a few assault ships to defend his transports. Iceni seems dumb because of the scenario rules not his fault.

I think that once iceni realized the ambush was not gonna work he shouldn't retreated his whole force like you said. Maybe his cav could've stayed out but that's it

you need to pay more attention to the map when doing this, you talked about how useless his units outside were but you didn't even realise they were deployed and had been fighting for like 10 mins before you even noticed they had joined the battle, you can tell this by seeing their dots on the map move around and see a couple enemy dots disappear after they engage
i remember in medieval total war 2 kingdoms you could only autoresolve naval battles, i used to be around 10 at the time and i was brutal in that game and one of my goals was to see at least 1 naval battle. idk how but yeah.

I have a feeling both teams weren't committing to the choke points much because the battle would've been pretty stale. You'd have 10 or so units just crowded in each choke point...boring. I prefer sieges to be diverse, and battles to be spread out all over the settlement(as well as mini battles here and there). And not bottle necking small areas...but sure, I think they should've done a bit more flanking.

A good strat for the barbs is to park his ships diagonally on the beach to sort of funnel the landing zones for the troops and create a choke point
