Im pretty much a rookie player and i keep asking myself, Why didnt anyone defended the walls? Isnt it easier to defend walls than fighting in the open space inside the town?
Roy Campbell it’s harder to defend the walls in a barbarian settlement since the walls are not elevated on the defenders POV, but you have more opportunities for troop movement to get small flanks on units because of more space

So yeah : both attackers and defenders knew how to handle a siege battle, but with everything that was going on it got messy pretty fast, it happens all the time in Total War sieges, especially a big one like this
Honestly, I think Macedon deserve the most kudos for standing against, and bleeding dry, Rome, on their own. Allowing their allies to concert their efforts against the rest of the attackers. The temptation is always to team up on Rome, focusing your power there, and while that makes sense, it would also have left them outnumbered against the superior numbers of two other attacking armies. So Macedon basically fought a desperate war of sacrificial attrition to stall and blunt their deadliest threat.

I'd say that Egypt is the best "faction" on RTW2, cuz I've defended so many town with only the base garrison (Egyptian Pikemen / Egyptian Infantry) , that has pretty much no armour yet I conquered so easily enemy towns, becuse the heavy infantry has good stats, and even on open field battles, a combination of Thorax Pikemen + a general on chariot and both being covered by Nubian Bowman, makes really easy to destroy even the heaviest Roman Troops. It they have no big enemies and have a large amount of territories... And if everything goes wrong, U still have the Elephants to cause havoc on the battlefield.
