I was a fan of Rob a few years ago but I stopped watching his stuff a while back. I can’t really say why other than I guess I started to see a not-so-endearing side of him. He just started to give me a bit of a sketchy vibe. The horror stories about Chapman Guitars’ abysmal quality control problems probably played a small part in that. A buddy of mine bought a Chapman brand new and it was awful. All manner of surface scuffs and scratches, a very loose input jack, wildly varying pickup height, a few of the screws were totally stripped and either the paint or the glossy topcoat was very uneven. This thing looked like it had been on tour for a year or two even though it was technically brand new in the box. Once he posted his response video to KDH, I realized exactly why I don’t like him. He’s a seriously arrogant bullshit artist.
L I was pretty close to buying an ML3 Bea a couple of weeks after they came out. Was in the market for a tele-style guitar and that one did seem to look and sound pretty cool but after looking further into Chapman and reading about the issues people were having with that specific guitar, I just decided to go and buy an actual telecaster. I dropped in some Bare Knuckle True Grit tele pickups and did the 4-way switch mod and this thing sounds awesome.
@@kylestewart4444 If you got a US made Tele you certainly made the right choice and you will *never* outgrow that amazing ax. And I'll let you in on a secret: you could've stayed with the stock pick ups and it would've sounded great! Cheers P[>
@@kylestewart4444 I got the ML3 Bea, and let Thomann do the quality control. For me its the best and nicest guitar in the whole range. Maybe its hit or miss, but mine is a big big hit!
I don't know what happened with Rob, so I'm not picking sides, but I will say that the 3 Chapman's u have owned have been the absolute most mental value for money I've ever encountered. I have owned a custom Mayones Regius, so I like nice gear, don't get me wrong. But the Chapman Pro line is seriously incredible.
Let me just say, I really liked Rob Chapman, the you tuber. Prompted me to buy a ML-1 Pro NT Walnut (yes, the first one), with Seymour Duncans. Had to have it checked 2 times at a luthier to get it working for me (wrong wiring anyone?). Did a video about it. I think I was fair (not bashing them). But got banned from the Chapman forum nevertheless and lost any interest in the brand and the attitude. Today a good guitar. Just remember it was 999 Euro back then. Plus the extra cost. All I know is: never again.
Let me save everyone some time. This is a 37 minute video of a man defending Rob Chapman but acting like he isn't. He openly admits to not knowing him or having ever touched a Chapman guitar, but he saw fit to make a video covertly defending everything that has been said and proven in some instances. No offense but you either obviously know RC or have something to do with him or his company.
Thanks, that's what I suspected. To be frank, just seeing Rob's 'arrogant' response video at the time was enough to turn me off, not that I was a huge fan anyway to be honest. I didn't actively dislike him prior to that, but I didn't rate him either; however he came across really badly by challenging his detractors in the way that he did, meaning the whole thing just rumbled-on.
If it's not a big deal, let's make endless internet content out of it. You know, on the RUclips. Times have changed Gramps.... Ha. Respect to your wise grandfather.
It's amazing I saw the Initial KDH video and all the subsequent videos that blew up, but missed this one. What I really want to SEE is the real Riff City story , as it has been taken down on their website (legal threats from Chapman?) But, I think we can all agree it is shitty what was done promising they could be the sole US distributor of their guitars and then going behind their backs and torpedoing their deal and selling to the big box music stores. And to find out the other brands like PRS and Fender did more to help Riff City stay afloat than Chapman did speaks volumes IMHO..
I bought a Chapman ML3-RC from RNA Music in Canton Texas. It was setup great so thank you Ryan and Angela and all mom and pop shops for your hard work.
@@davecarpenter2517 RUclips is full of experts on body language. But yeah, Lee is a great spokesman for his store and RUclips channel, and he's got a good interaction both with guys like Rob, Rabea, and Danish Pete, but also the people he's interviewing.
100%. I don't need anymore guitars as I don't have room for more. I have a basement but my house is 70 years old and downstairs is not humidity controlled.
@@alien4422 There are so many established guitar companies out there to choose from. A Chapman guitar is not necessary and I cant fathom why anybody would desire one.
I am a veteran Guitar Tech and in my opinion; "Chapman Guitars are JUNK right out of the box." Some of the worst construction/design geometry I have seen over the past four decades. When I contacted Chapman "support" for a solution to their poor design issues ;they offered what can accurately be described as a 'childish nonsense quick fix'. Do yourself a favor and avoid Chapman Guitars.
Can you tell me as a guitar tech which brands are among the best in your opinion? I usually buy Jackson and ESP guitars in the $1,200-$2,100 range but I’d love to hear from a tech that isn’t selling me something. Thanks in advance, friend.
Mind if I ask what a good budget guitar for a beginner. Thinking Yamaha or ibanez, but Harley Benton get a lot of love but not sure how much is to do with people being paid also.
Personally, I don't consider Rob to be a great player. He's repetitive/boring and all flash and speed but little substance. I was another Anderton fan who was very happy when Danish Pete took his place. And Lee himself has grown immensely as a guitar player, so the AM videos are much more interesting and informative.
From a retail perspective, it is clear that Chapman is maximising profits by being very hands-off. Collect order $ from dealer before committing to the factory (no capital up front), then ship direct to the dealer. There is no investment in tooling, or brick and mortar, or commitment. They actually don't own anything? IMHO, that is NOT a manufacturer. That is a specification house.
But that's not unusual. All Apple's production appears to be outsourced. Aprilia the motorcycle manufacturer just bolt together a load of bits built by suppliers - admittedly to their specification. I can't see anything that bizarre about Chapman's modus operandi. Maybe just bizarre in the guitar industry. That's not to say it's the best way of going about things, but it's not necessarily something to get steamed up about.
Which is fair enough, HOWEVER, QC takes time and effort. If I was putting my name on a product at the price point he's selling at, I'd work damn hard with the factory to ensure that the QC was up to scratch. Not doing so seems either lazy, greedy, arrogant or all 3.
I have watched this unfold over several years. Rob Chapman divorced himself from Andertons, claiming that he should be hosting his content on his own channel. A couple of years later, he is back on Andertons... My conclusion is that Rob Chapman is an attention seeking Twat! Greatest respect to you Ian. But I sincerely believe that the culture of today, i.e. you can't criticise anybody, else it might make them cry. Is fundamentally wrong. .....
I used to be a fan of him many years ago when he was doing his Monkey Lord thing. He was entertaining, seemed like a really nice guy, and he was fun to watch. Then he launched his guitar brand and the quality of the videos started to go down. He seemed to get a big ego and most of his videos turned into advertisements and I just stopped watching. Nothing bad, I just didn't enjoy the content anymore. Now coming back to electric after a few years out of the loop (I'm primarily a classical player) he seems to have dropped out of popularity and what I do hear or see of him generally isn't positive. Kind of a bummer. I've had a chance to check out his guitars at different stores, both used and new, and the quality was kind of... lacking. Originally I heard about him because he did a few collaboration videos with Llexi Leon of his Eternal Descent project which has also all but vanished from social media.
Thank you, I don't see why anyone would pay 1000 bucks for his version of the explorer, when you can get a schecter e1 for the same price with way way way better quality.
All im going to say is I don't trust guitar brands from anyone who just started off as a business man who wanted to slap his name on a headstock of a generic asian made guitar.
The issue with the QC sounds like the type of costcutting which gave some of the larger companies a bad name. Re RC, I used to subscribe to the Andertons channel a number of years back but quickly found the videos unwatchable, half hour videos to review a guitar which takes a minor role in the production behind the in jokes etc and I unsubscribed and never regretted it.
It was pretty obvious. Version 1 was made in the same factory as Schecter, and came with a nice custome explorer gig bag. When they switch factories due to poor QC, cough cough. No more gig bag. I beged him for a gig bag. Said I would purchase it. You know they had some laying around. So cheaper factory + no custom gig bag = more profits for Rob. Ever try, and find a left handed explorer gig bag or a lefty case. I have been playing since Rob was a kid, and have seen guitar companies come, and go. He will never have quality, or, custom shop models. He is guitars will end up like Laguna, Mitchell, and a whole bunch of others.
I'm a similar age to you, also a gruff northerner, and as such you tend to get the mark of a man pretty quickly, and Rob Chapman comes across as a total, insert pejorative, preferably a 4 letter Anglo Saxon one.
Did not care for this video much sorry to say but you waffled on quite a bit without saying very much, I used to watch the Lee Anderton and Rob Chapman videos, but noticed a change in Rob when he started his guitar company, can't quite put my finger on it, but there was a definite change, anyway I stopped watching their videos, Lee I think is a very screwed business man, he knew that Rob was an asset to his company in respect of them making these video's that were both both popular and fun, I always got the impression though that Lee never really cared for Rob's style of guitar playing, me neither, but put up with it, I think we are both the same it’s just not our style of music, that's not to say Rob is not a good musician he is, just not our style, since this trouble Rob has had it looks like Lee has distanced himself somewhat from Rob, and who can blame him after all at the end of the day he has a very successful business to look after, whereas Rob’s seems to be failing through lack of good customer care.
I love this term (never heard it before) IF I am tracking about what you are trying to convey "Cringe Metal" is a bit of a odd moniker- Rob can love/listen to/play Metal with impunity at 13 years old, maybe even 15 ...it is pushing it way to the edge but I will go on to say Rob can have this relationship with "metal" all the way up to 17 and 364 days (barring any leap year nonsense- I am too tired to figure that nonsense out) but the moment Rob turns 18- that very same metal turns into "CRINGE METAL" - and now that Rob is pushing 50 years old it is 'BEYOND FUCKING CRINGE METAL"-- Rob, it can be gleaned, has the musical maturity of a 13 year old.
It is kinda funny, because almost all of his videos where he is just showing off a guitar he does that generic, shred style "cringe" metal, but than his actually music isn't even metal. He has a hard rock band, a blues band, and did a solo instrumental, ambient album. I almost feel like the shreding cringe is a mockery of itself, done for shits and giggles.
It is quite ironic how the connection with internet audience was the only advantage of Chapman Guitars over all other WMI-assembled brands, yet they have managed to successfully waste it.
I liked Chappers early on and was a customer at Riff City as it was local for me. I tried one of the guitars and it just wasn't for me. I wonder how opening a second location coupled with losing that guitar like affected Riff City closing up shop. Knowing the Riff City guys and seeing Chappers "truth" video was enough for me to unsubscribe.
As a culture, we really need to get over this whole "RUclips personality/online influencer/cult of celebrity" phenomenon. And we certainly need to get over the mob mentality that leads to these kinds of knee-jerk online pile-ons, regardless of what side of the argument you're on. If you wouldn't say it to a person's face, then you shouldn't be saying it on social media.
I completely agree, there has been some terrible things said to and about myself and RC in the comments section of this video I have asked ppl to clean up their posts by sunday then I will start removing negitive posts on both sides of the argument
Guitar Center sucks! Employees are the worst & don't want to be bothered. Bought a Fender from them & had to fight the manager to get the proper case that comes with it. As far as I'm concerned they were trying a "bait & switch". After an nasty gram to Fender about the incident I got the case that is supposed to come witht he top of the line Stratocaster I bought plus they told me to keep the cheap case they gave me. Bought my other 2 Strats from Sam Ash at better prices & they treated me much more favorable & my son bought his bass guitars from Sam Ash also.
@@MathijsIgnoul Believe it or not, his bullying of the young guitar player a while back even reached us here in Japan (Shibuya). Granted we had numerous acts going out to NAMM/Reading up on various companies, artists and submissions - so with the Andertons affiliation people might not think much of it; but there is plenty we 'dont' hear about. I was surprised as the only real mention of him prior for us was Andertons winning the store award a good while ago and him being mentioned as an associate of Lee Anderton the owner. I think they should be especially careful of their associations going forward as numerous major companies here, such as ESP and Shokai really don't have an appreciation for negative press. It's hell here already with PR stuff like this.
Ironically Rob Chapman isn't even all that rich at all. Don't surprised if he's really only worth a couple million, all of it stuck in his guitar company. Because even though he asks like $1,000 per product review, starting 10 years ago, his RUclips channel never blew up and made him millions. He also claims to have made money with Herbalife stocks, which is just ridiculous. The guy predicted a $30-ish per share company to become a $300 per share company in 2014 or so and Herbalife is now (Dec 2022) at $14 per share. It never passed like $61 or something and Rob got in late. No doubt he lost money on that, pretty much guaranteed. For people who don't know, Herbalife is the closest thing to a "legal" pyramid scheme there is and most people would argue the product is nonsense too. It's mostly worthless, if it weren't for lots of 'gold diggers' trying to keep the pyramid going. So no, Rob Chapman did not end up in Forbes for having 'earned millions' as some kind of stock trader at all. They featured some fairly small RUclipsrs really and tried to compare to the likes of PewDiePie. I've got nothing against the guy, but people will very quickly turn on bigger channels that start to bully small channels for being honest. I wouldn't buy a Chapman guitar, just saying.
It’s funny how every guitar player or musician thinks people who can’t play a single riff would feel comfortable walking into a store and testing the guitar they want
I mean, someone who literally can’t play at all should probably not be shopping around for high end guitars by themselves in the first place. In that case, it’s better to just go up to the counter and tell them that you’re a complete beginner and you’re looking for a starter guitar.
@@jakobholmberg4065 really, and who said I want multiple guitars In my house, maybe I just want a really good one that I’m going to enjoy for a long time,I posted this a year ago and I can actually play a little bit because I learn fast .Thank god I purchased a prs top model I enjoy 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
@@knowledgeking6730 That's fine for you but not really good advice for everyone. If you can afford to pay £4000+ as a beginner that's great but if a person has never played before they may find they bought the wrong £4000 + guitar.
I say 'Nice 1 Kelan' He struck a blow for the consumer in a humurous but damning way and was merely pointing out the sometimes hardfaced and underhanded and frankly dishonest activities of Mr Chapman. And if anyone says he's whinging then look what he holds up at the end of his video. All valid points. I think the guy is great, humble, kind and understanding. He wears his heart on his sleeve a little to much but that's a quality, one i hope no one takes advantage of. Kelan is already concerned about the backlash and has said why (heart on the sleeve) Myself i would have been more blunt and that's why he did a fantastic job of his video Audio Audit, Rob Chapman.
You've completely misunderstood the Riff City debacle. Riff City were the only store in the US that sold Chapman Guitars. Riff City believed Rob Chapman was a man of his word. Riff City felt they had a partnership with Rob Chapman and were doing their best to grow the Chapman Guitars brand. Unfortunately, Rob Chapman had other ideas and Riff City went out of business. Whether you agree or disagree, like or hate Rob Chapman is irrelevant. KDH video was about revealing who Rob Chapman is.👍
I have enjoyed Rob and Lee's content for years, and certainly, since this thing blew up; a lot of Anderton videos that would in previous years have been shoe-in 'Chappers and the Captain' editions have instead featured the Cap with Peter Honore (Danish Pete). Obviously, correlation does not mean causation, and various other factors are undoubtedly at play behind the scenes. In my opinion, Peter Honore is often a better kind of guitar player to demo a broad range of guitars and accessories, as his style is cleaner, and more eclectic, whereas Rob has a tendency to want to try and shred on everything, and clean tones are a perfunctory chore before hitting the gain. To be fair, he makes it kinda part of his charm, but I think you get a better review with Honore playing unless it's honest to goodness Metal mayhem that's being reviewed. Their recent review of Fender's reissued 'Lead' series was a good example, as neither Lee or Pete could really do what Rob would have done with them (although I never really regarded the Lead series as that kind of shred guitar back in the day). Rob's 'truth' video was awful in places, and he did not come across well at all. I read Joe from Riff City's full response and felt he made some very strong points regarding how Rob framed some of his 'truth'. I do own a Chapman ML-3 which I've had for about 4 years or so, and it arrived with no issues and even a half-decent factory set-up, but obviously this is a purely subjective personal experience and is worth very little in the greater scheme of things. Thanks for this video Ian, I think it adds a little calm to the froth. I do think Rob could have handled the whole thing with more humility and dignity than he did, we will see what happens next.
Benjamin Pegley if you haven’t noticed a few years ago the review videos for Andertons music was moved from Rob’s channel to a separate Andertons channel which then branched off into instrument specific channels etc. Rob still does some reviews but pete does more now because he’s there and works specifically for Andertons as Rob was someone coming in almost like sub-contracted entity. And that’s the reason Pete does majority now. On top of that they’ve all become popular on RUclips and social media in their own right. Rabea, Pete, Matt, Lee and so on all have significant followings.. That’s the real 411..
I've watched a lot of the Anderton's videos just because I wanted to find out about the guitars they were talking about. As for the hosts.....I don't find them personally interesting at all. Well except for Rob's fashion sense and that ridiculous dreadlock haircut....those are interesting but not in a flattering way.....
@@RJKANEAO I remember that shift well, as it was getting slightly weird for Anderton's vids to be on Rob's channel. However, that was some time ago now, and the shift I am sensing is more recent, with Lee and Pete doing a lot of the vids that Rob would still have done even six months ago. As I said, correlation does not prove causation, but it is interesting that Rob's participation and presence on the Anderton's YT channel seems at an all- time low right now. Could be completely unrelated to the situation under scrutiny here, but there it is.
I'll take Danish Pete over Rob Chapman any day. As a player and a person. I got bored of Rob's schtick a long time ago. Tbf, I don't religiously watch Anderton's videos, because I just have this perception that 5 out of every 10 of their guitar videos are about Gibson/Epiphone, and 4 are Fender/Squier. There are other brands, lads.
Sorry, RUclipsrs are all tools. The more followers, the more arrogant they become. Rob calls himself a professional musician. Yes he got paid to play on someone else's tracks so technically, he is a professional. Musician he is not. He is a content provider who happens to sell garbage guitars made on a CNC machine with the cheapest parts available. Chapman guitars were Rob's way to have his own signature guitar and frankly, they aren't good instruments. Played three of them and every one was different, same model but vastly different from guitar to guitar and these are CNC machined guitars, not hand made.
thanks to everyone who has been commenting and contributing, I don't want to stifle the debate but can some of you please curb your use of bad language - all comments including the F***** and C***** words will be deleted.
To be honest the reason Chapman sold so many guitars originally was because of Rob Chapman. But if you're gonna ship straight from the manufacturer to the shop, you better make damn sure the quality control at the factory is 100% spot on. Paying for the item and having to wait 5-8 months is unacceptable to start with but for the items to turn up less than perfect on a regular basis and then the shop owner having no recourse to send the guitar back is a sure fire recipe to bankrupcy. Shows an unbelievable amount of arrogance on somebodys part at the company that make these guitars. Sorry but Chapman guitars have brought this all on themselves. They had a ready made market and then blew it through shoddy workmanship, greed and arrogance. And because people have the temerity to post articles about how bad and arrogant a company they are Chapman spits his dummy iut and crawls back to Andertons with his tail between his legs. You had a golden opportunity but you blew it.
The problem he may face is, his company is purely based on his popularity on the internet. Sure some people will like his music, and yes he claims to be a big time artist on top 40 tracks - but so are many recording artists you don't know. He's not a household name is my point, he's not a luthier, he's not engineering new hardware or new techniques and methods in the production of these guitars. (I'm not including designing a shape and working with G&B Pickups as anyone can do it) I'm not knocking it, but my point is, the name on that guitar will only continue if he's popular. His blunders before were fine because his sycophant followers can ignore it. But if he starts treating people like shit and does it in public... They'll get fed up too and then what?
@@Zilegil Oh I don't think it's going to be next week they fold, but there's a lot of competition as you probably know and Chapman Guitars have gained their following from himself, if he's no longer popular demand won't be what it was and the guitars will have to stand on their own merit. If someone looks at a Chapman and wonders who they are and in their search they find all these videos calling him a bully etc, they'll probably give it a miss. I appreciate (especially in the early days), they opted for the better hardware available from the usual suppliers so represented good value for money. And in the UK all guitars would go through their inspection via Anderton's warehouse, but as pointed out they don't have this middleman in other countries and they're now relying on Guitar Center. Do a quick search on them and you'll find they're having financial difficulties as guitar sales continue to decline. We all know the problems Gibson have had and are looking to repair that but if these massive names can fail, so can the little guys. And if smaller shops don't want to stock Chapman because of QC issues and long lead times, they're no longer commercially viable (like RNA say) and before you know it they're no longer in the USA - or they contract a distributor to carry out inspection like PRS SE (in the US they go through Maryland in other countries they go through their distributor for inspection) which bumps up the cost. I think while Lee Anderton still has a holding in the company they will continue to be around, but Lee also has East Coast guitars these days, he's used Chapman as a way to learn the process. He now has his own affordable brand to compete with Harley Benton - how long unil they're not just copies and the Anderton team are producing guitars to rival Chapman and others? On a side note, anyone remember Westfield Guitars? They were a decent sized UK based company, dead...
@@CagedPaps does lee own east coast? Is that a pure Anderson’s things? Also, I remember Westfield, got one of their les Paul copies collecting dust somewhere
I work at a guitar store that sells Chapman guitars (Won't say which for obvious reasons). They're really not great and massively overpriced for what they are. Their entry level range starts at an RRP of $549/£499 and there's nothing that they offer that you can't get better from the Fender Player Series, the new 2020 Epiphone range, PRS SE or ESP LTD, all of which are priced similarly or much lower.
Two attempts on a new Fender Player Strat Plus Top and I gave up.. their Mexican QC is BS. Even their sales support managment had reservations about getting me ONE flawless instrument on the third attempt
in the end of the day..... Who cares about all this?? About Chapman, issues, youtubers? Maaan.... Buy yourself a good guitar, play it.. who cares about Chapman or other peoples problems? Jesus Christ... in the end only thing you need is a good stratocaster hahahhahahha
I noticed any time a rep would come in to video demo a product on Andertons #RobChapman was a total bully and laughed at the reps when he didn't like a product, never liked him for that.
Just have to say after watching this video. I found Rob Chapman to be very arrogant, after watching a video of him and Lee he stated he had interviewed guitarists for his band and asked them to play the 5 pentatonic positions. Why?? i thought the best musicians played by feeling not theory and being able to read music.
In these days of amazing CNC machines- Most $200 guitars with a professional set up (usually less than $75) plays FANTASTIC compared to just 20 years ago. I have 3 Epiphones that are every bit as good , if not better than the 2 Gibson's I own. If your priced in the $500-$1200 range for your guitars- they had better be good because the competition is REALLY good.
That's true. I have a $300 Schecter and a $1400 Schecter, and while the more expensive model has "better" parts (and more strings), the cheaper one plays just as well every time.
I've played and owned MANY guitars thru the years and my '03 Gibson LP Standard is the BEST I've ever touched. Theres the bad, the good, and the irreplaceable. I'm sorry that your experience with Gibson has been less than satisfactory but maybe someday, one will speak to you.
i have played a 250$ Ibanez that had no dead spots on the neck , Jumbo frets . a cheap playable guitar , that played as good if not better than the 1000$ guitars they have , YOu don't get the tremelo or good pick ups but it plays
I have 2 Harley Benton's a Firefly, a cpl of Mitchell's, a Vintage....all retail for $250- $450 ..or notably less .. all are pretty astonishing quality wise none were perfect, but most were pretty damn close with only a cpl of very small cosmetic issues or general low quality parts that were perfect for replacement upgrade projects and resulted in absolutely awesome guitars for not much more investment... nothing major on any of them.. it truly is an incredible time for $300-$500 guitars...
@@yrmthr I really, really loved the LP standard. Until i tried a Tokai. Of the two, the Tokai is actually more "Les Paul" than the Gibson one is: It's done closer to the original spec while the current LP standard is "modernized." For me it usually goes this: $1000 Tokai > Any price Gibson, even customs. The quality just isn't there: You can literally buy a Gibson custom shop guitar and receive a guitar with FLAWS. Good luck finding a flaw in a PRODUCTION Tokai. Oh and totally hilariously, i used to have a Les Paul STUDIO that obliterated the LP standard in quality. That shouldn't happen. But it does: All the "classic" Les Paul parts they need to add to make an LP standard have a lot more chance to go wrong than with the simple Studio: The Standard i had, had faulty binding. It came apart. Was an easy fix though, but still: That's Gibson for ye.
This is click bait and I clicked on it. RUclipsrs have worked out if you put Rob Chapman's name in the video title you will get 100,000 views, this is old news, nothing to see here.
I played a Chapman Guitar in a pawn shop recently and I was not impressed. It was a solid mediocre. Especially for the price. I think the jury is inn, consumers do not want to pay thousands of dollars for a guitar when there are brands out there that are producing quality instruments for under $500 bucks.
Sounds like Rob forgot where he came from. If he had a real friend one of them would kick the Crap out of him and bring him back to earth. Guess Rib gets a lot of Nech aches as anyone with a Head as big as his would ! We must Pray for him. The man in the mirror .
It's not something that could be talked about in 5 mins. All this stuff is from over 5 so years of time, Some people bitching on guitar forums for longer than 5 years, all this stuff isn't new or anything super known. People have been saying he's a shit guitar player for a long long time etc. Most of this stuff is just people complaining for any reason.
i was noticing the decline in good videos on robs youtube page and kdhs video opened my eyes. i was subscribed to him and andertons since like 2012 but kdhs but the decline of robs content together with the separation of his and andertons videos led to me unsubbing and not watching rob anymore. also im sure all his cronies that got signature guitars like lee and all his bandmates along with many guitarist youtubers that got guitars for review purposes are probably hand selected by him from the very few that didnt have quality issues that apparently land in shops otherwise. the financial reports of chapman guitars was shocking. i cannot believe the company is worth less than 200k and only if all assets would be liquified
Is it just me or does Ryan look suspiciously like a certain other bearded guitar player from Texas? Find a picture without the shades from his younger days. Just sayin.....
Usually when I see these kinds of videos pop up in my recommendations, it's an instant Do Not Recommend. Goodbye and GTFO. I just don't care to hear the whiny, entitied, RUclipsr bullshit, especially from coattail-riding nobodies stirring up drama for views. I watched yours until the end. Glad to see there are a few level headed people left around here.
Dude, im in the USA, and I as well as a close friend went through a combined total of 6 guitars to get our first 2 passable chapmans. I gave up after that one. My buddy however has 6 Chapmans. Half are really nice, half have major issues. Having said this I do now own 2, as I added an Ml-3 that I absolutely adore. So yes, its a huge crapshoot, even currently. But like an LP, if u gwt a good one, its really good. If u get a bad one, its really bad
I think that’s true of ANY guitar. I’ve got a 1980s USA Strat that I think is a pile of trash... The thing is with Chapmans, it seems to happen far more often than it should.
20 + minutes in, and I still have no idea what was supposed to have happened to cause the rumpus. Even after those talking heads discussing problem with Chapman ranges.... and so what? How does this fit in with anything? There is no context to what they are talking about, as there has been no clear indication of what Chapman was supposed to have done in the first place. A succinct overview in this respect would have been helpful, as opposed to many minutes of meandering waffle.
I can't stand the Captain & Chappers videos. I do have a sense of humor but these guys just plain act stupid. I can't even make through the first 2 minutes of them making stupid faces and 'jokes'.
Not to mention the garbage recordings they make. Their videos sound like trash. Pete Honore actually got pissed at me for mentioning it once. Said I should stop in and do better. Too bad I live in the states, cause I probably would have.
I bought a Chapman Cap10 some years ago at Thomann. They were still 400 or so. I'm so afraid to buy a guitar online without trying it first now. For the price it was, that's not that of a big deal but the guitar wasn't set up properly. I tried to do what I can but fret buzz appears quickly. I told to myself that a bit a fret buzz is not that an issue but dead not appeared when bending on the last frets. I got to go to a luthier to set up that guitar properly but still I don't think it will change that much. I don't even know if it's possible to do something. Otherwise the quality of the instrument is quite ok, I would say good but the thing is heavy and the electronic... that's another story. I got to replace it enterly I think. I sprayed in there a few times and it keeps making scratch noises. I would love to try a Solar guitar but it's impossible to find them in stores where I live.
Why didn't you send it back to Thomann idf you were unhappy. I cannot fathom how many people are saying they get soomething with which they are not satisfies and are then complaining to e.g. RUclips, instead of the retailer. Please... help me out here... what gives? What have I missed?
@@MikeSadlerAU Because I thought I could get used to it and didn't notice all the problems right on. The pain to send it back, pay more to sent it back to Germany and maybe getting another one with the same problems. I thought I could fix them by myself. It's been a few years that I tried to convience myself that it was a good guitar but the truth is that I got to spend more to get the thing set up correctly.
@@zapantalambda LOL, said like that it gives the impression it's a guitar powered by solar energy but it's just a brand. It's Ola Englund's personal guitar brand. As many litlle productions it's quite hard to find them in stores but quite a few pro metal musicians have used them and they say they are good.
As far as the neck, sounds like a level and crown is in order. Or, if it's the same dimension as a Strat, just buy a Strat replacement neck and replace it. Otherwise, I'd say sell it and be done with the hassle. Buy a Schecter or PRS SE standard.
look at the amount of dislikes on this completely reasonable response to this situation. Good lord. The chapman guitars are run of the mill. They can be decent but the majority that I have played were straight up bad. If you like yours that's fine but he really rides his e-fame wave, and uses that as the primary mover for his instruments over quality or innovation. That's my take.

its interesting to hear a RUclipsr use another RUclipsr to gain likes and subscribers by shining them in a bad light of sorts... its entertaining because its the lowest quality form of content when you have nothing of substance to share with the world yourself.
Absolutely. It is not R&As name on the guitar. It should never be the responsibility of the store or retailer to work out the bugs. Simple set up is one thing because shipping from climate to climate can do a number, however craftsmanship issues is a totally different story. Sounds like Chapman is a downer and like many factory direct guitars it is a hit or miss. With the pricetag being on a higher side of mid range guitars one might want to look elsewhere I think Rob Chapman's attitude strongly reflects the products that are produced in his name and he prides himself on the blessings that have come his way instead of a heart of gratitude for being able to make a living doing what he initially loved to do which is music.i didn't hear that in his statement. I only heard how awesome he is,how many friends he has, and he makes a bunch of money so ...he can say and play what he wants because of his impressive status. I'm not impressed. I think this video did contribute to the matter as for I was not aware of this conflict but I am now grateful to not entertain the idea of saving to buy any Rob Chapman guitars. Thank you
the problem with the tinterweb is that everyone and his dog has an opinion some people do not like him some do if you dont like him so what if you do so what big deal so mellow out put on some pink floyd smoke something or drink something but chill out life is too short
I think Peter Honore shows that you can do 'Rob' much better than Rob himself and be a well liked and popular person, despite the huge variety of net opinions. Rob isn't just an opinion piece. He was factually exposed as a bully (unacceptable for a teacher) and the latter issues with Riff City just iced the cake with a slight window into his lack of regard for anyone in the industry who happens to not meet his personal criteria. Which is the definition of Bigotry. I usually hate bullies of all kinds; but this enabling of Rob has to stop. Its about time he had a hard think about how he treats other people.
Summary - guy plays pentatonic music, gets a following, makes junky guitars overseas and spends all of his time overselling them. Junky is relative. Just about anything made in the world these days (including $175 cort guitars) is perfectly playable. But there are a zillion different branded versions of guitars like that that really are just cut rate guitars made overseas. Chapman included. All struggling for a gimmick that allows them to charge $600 for a junk guitar that someone else can only get $400 for.
I wasn't aware of this incident until now being presented on your channel. Being a beginner guitarist I used to view some of the Andertons guitar review videos but was turned off by the way that the so called review seemed more like a showcase for this Chapman guy to showboat. Needless to say, I don't view that channel or any channel that he is a part of and after watching the clip that you provided showing how arrogant this person is due to his wealth and fame, I'm really glad that I didn't purchase any Chapman guitars. Sorry that I didn't watch your video to the end but after the clip of him being arrogant I knew that I saw and heard enough and I won't waste my time giving this person any more of my attention in any way shape or form.

If you don't own one of the original 500 then fine, don't bother with their later models.

All I know is: never again.
thanks Sven I've heard other stories like yours
Let me save everyone some time. This is a 37 minute video of a man defending Rob Chapman but acting like he isn't. He openly admits to not knowing him or having ever touched a Chapman guitar, but he saw fit to make a video covertly defending everything that has been said and proven in some instances. No offense but you either obviously know RC or have something to do with him or his company.

Thanks. Saved me 27 minutes.

It's amazing I saw the Initial KDH video and all the subsequent videos that blew up, but missed this one. But, I think we can all agree it is shitty what was done promising they could be the sole US distributor of their guitars and then going behind their backs and torpedoing their deal and selling to the big box music stores. And to find out the other brands like PRS and Fender did more to help Riff City stay afloat than Chapman did speaks volumes IMHO..

He might be a great guitar player, but he doesn't half fancy himself. Smug is the word that springs to mind.
Isn't that a prerequisite for being a front man in a band?
Normally how you are expected to be if you run a youtube site. What do you expect out of him? A squeaking mouse hiding in the corner?

@David Wang Why, thankyou.
Personally, I don't consider Rob to be a great player. He's repetitive/boring and all flash and speed but little substance. I was another Anderton fan who was very happy when Danish Pete took his place. And Lee himself has grown immensely as a guitar player, so the AM videos are much more interesting and informative.

Exactly. Perfect description.

Retailers will soon click on and just start making their own guitars. Harley Benton guitars are a good example.
Which is fair enough, HOWEVER,
QC takes time and effort. If I was putting my name on a product at the price point he's selling at, I'd work damn hard with the factory to ensure that the QC was up to scratch.
Not doing so seems either lazy, greedy, arrogant or all 3.
Andy Mellor That’s a fair enough point of view. I agree that the QC is your affair whether or not the factories are yours.
True, very true, it is just a design house for guitars.
I need to visit RNA Guitars next time I'm in Austin. They seem cool.
They are nice guys I've been e-mailing with Ryan and if I ever get to Canton I'm popping in to their shop
Let me get this straight. Chapman guitars sells for 700-2000e, which are made in KOREA. And no QC. Wow. Talk about scamming. What a dosser!
All im going to say is I don't trust guitar brands from anyone who just started off as a business man who wanted to slap his name on a headstock of a generic asian made guitar.
Asking a friend to put out a video saying chapmen an ok guy 🤣😂🤣😂 Chapman guitars are pieces of shit .I can’t even get 1/2 the price I bought it for .
I bought a Chapman ML1 Traditional last year. The bridge pickup wasn't wired in.
Guy is the king of cringe metal
@sempercompellis From 70 onwards it becomes "Platinum Jubilee of Cringe Metal"
It's literally "trash" metal :D

I’ve played quite a few Chapman guitars, a few of my friends own them. None of them still play them and I can’t say I was impressed

Rabea and Pete ate the two best guys for the Andertons demo vids. Great chemistry and AWESOME playing.👍
I thought this was about the Chapman stick. (:
Fig? Cat?
RUclips changed my 4 asterisks to 3 now I call that censorship ;o)
@@IanJCole Oh man, that really got a chuckle outta me. Cheers!

(I'm not including designing a shape and working with G&B Pickups as anyone can do it)
I'm not knocking it, but my point is, the name on that guitar will only continue if he's popular. His blunders before were fine because his sycophant followers can ignore it. But if he starts treating people like shit and does it in public... They'll get fed up too and then what?
I’m not so sure he’s gonna be taken down so easily
He’s a brand name, not a guitar maker.
@@CagedPaps I have a westfield lp. Great guitar.
Here is a guy who just cut corners from every angle. I really don't understand why Andertons persist with him.
this guy kind looks like Dave Pensado .
in the end of the day.....
Of the two, the Tokai is actually more "Les Paul" than the Gibson one is: It's done closer to the original spec while the current LP standard is "modernized."
For me it usually goes this: $1000 Tokai > Any price Gibson, even customs.

Hi Mark its only clickbait when the title and content differ but considering that the video is a month old I agree it is old new and time to move on
I played a Chapman Guitar in a pawn shop recently and I was not impressed.
I'm not watching any video for 37 minutes, especially if it could be 5 minutes long.
That's because your attention span only ever lasts for 5 mins , Which inturn speaks volumes about you
At least stay for the 30 second opening credits. 😀
But you gotta watch the whole video of 37 minutes first to determine whether it could just be 5 minutes long.
I made it all the way through the Dacia ad!
Rob's a pud.
i was noticing the decline in good videos on robs youtube page and kdhs video opened my eyes. i was subscribed to him and andertons since like 2012 but kdhs but the decline of robs content together with the separation of his and andertons videos led to me unsubbing and not watching rob anymore.
also im sure all his cronies that got signature guitars like lee and all his bandmates along with many guitarist youtubers that got guitars for review purposes are probably hand selected by him from the very few that didnt have quality issues that apparently land in shops otherwise. the financial reports of chapman guitars was shocking. i cannot believe the company is worth less than 200k and only if all assets would be liquified
all chapman needs to do is employ some guitar nerd in the factory to tune and play each one before they leave the factory ...how hard can that be?
I have no horse in this race, but found the video interesting.
thanks Michael 😀
My ML3 pro is bad ass. Definitely a favorite of mine.
Is it just me or does Ryan look suspiciously like a certain other bearded guitar player from Texas? Find a picture without the shades from his younger days. Just sayin.....
He does look like Billy Gibbons in 1980, and it's not just the beard.
Usually when I see these kinds of videos pop up in my recommendations, it's an instant Do Not Recommend. Goodbye and GTFO. I just don't care to hear the whiny, entitied, RUclipsr bullshit, especially from coattail-riding nobodies stirring up drama for views.

Call me Alphalfa your friends an idiot for having 3 bad ones and continuing to add to the collection.
I think that’s true of ANY guitar. I’ve got a 1980s USA Strat that I think is a pile of trash...
The thing is with Chapmans, it seems to happen far more often than it should.
@@jackhaugh You'd be surprised how many MIM player series Fender have factory flaws.. and the fret finishing is junk
Chapman is a guitar trading company NOT a guitar company, there's a difference.
Sorry, I meant on ebay. Still, the same message stands.
I can't stand the Captain & Chappers videos. I do have a sense of humor but these guys just plain act stupid. I can't even make through the first 2 minutes of them making stupid faces and 'jokes'.
I don’t enjoy their show either, I damn sure wouldn’t buy one of his guitars.
Not to mention the garbage recordings they make. Their videos sound like trash. Pete Honore actually got pissed at me for mentioning it once. Said I should stop in and do better. Too bad I live in the states, cause I probably would have.
What I don’t like about their videos is that they’re not actually reviews. They’re more like infomercials.

It's been a few years that I tried to convience myself that it was a good guitar but the truth is that I got to spend more to get the thing set up correctly.
what is a solar guitar?
@@zapantalambda LOL, said like that it gives the impression it's a guitar powered by solar energy but it's just a brand. It's Ola Englund's personal guitar brand. As many litlle productions it's quite hard to find them in stores but quite a few pro metal musicians have used them and they say they are good.
As far as the neck, sounds like a level and crown is in order. Or, if it's the same dimension as a Strat, just buy a Strat replacement neck and replace it. Otherwise, I'd say sell it and be done with the hassle. Buy a Schecter or PRS SE standard.
It's BAD business to have to finance someone elses production since you take all the risk and can get screwed especially from Chinese manufacturers.
look at the amount of dislikes on this completely reasonable response to this situation. Good lord. The chapman guitars are run of the mill. They can be decent but the majority that I have played were straight up bad. If you like yours that's fine but he really rides his e-fame wave, and uses that as the primary mover for his instruments over quality or innovation. That's my take.

chapman is a gimmick and a rip off
With the pricetag being on a higher side of mid range guitars one might want to look elsewhere
I think Rob Chapman's attitude strongly reflects the products that are produced in his name and he prides himself on the blessings that have come his way instead of a heart of gratitude for being able to make a living doing what he initially loved to do which is music.i didn't hear that in his statement.
