Great video's, keep them up. I've only been playing since last October myself and I'm in my late 50's. Great game. Ignore the people who tell you to stay on the range. You get out there on the course and enjoy the reason you got into the game in the first place.
Cheers mate, really glad you’re enjoying them. It’s comments like this that will ensure I keep doing them so thanks. One of the things I love about golf is that you can play it with people of all ages. Great way to get to know people outside of your normal peer group. Delighted to hear you’ve taken up the sport. And cheers for the advice, I’m happy enough to keep hitting the course, it’s where the real gains are made 🏌🏻♂️🏌🏻♂️🏌🏻♂️
Exactly! Play golf cos you want to. I really hope you keep making these videos. You're fun to listen to, honest and very self-deprecating and getting better !
Great Job! You really are an inspiration! I haven’t played in the past 15 yrs and took up golf again in the past two months. I played my first 9 hole round with a local league last night and shot 22 over par😮 I was disappointed but came home and watched one of your rounds and felt better that with practice I could get better. Please keep doing what you do! God Bless and be safe
Ah thanks very much Larry, what a lovely comment to receive 😃 Well done on taking up the sport again after so long, you won’t regret it 😀 Don’t worry about the score for now. Just get used to playing again and focus on enjoying the round and the scores will quickly improve. Thanks for watching and I hope to have more vids out very soon 👍🏻
Thanks Tom, I appreciate the encouragement. This round kind of epitomises my issues to date. I can play reasonably well at times but still have too many mishits or tops etc. if I can eliminate those, I think I’ll do ok. Thanks for watching mate 👍🏻
Holes like that can easily happen. It's just important to remember that before those holes, you were clearly playing very good golf. Focus on that as opposed to the bad couple of holes. You clearly have the ability 👍🏻
Cheers mate, as you probably heard in the video, I really just concentrate on trying to get the ball close to the hole and I’ve found that works for me in terms of securing a 2 putt and the upside is then when they drop 😀 Just need to work on the rest of my game 😂 Thanks for watching mate 👍🏻
Great to hear Darren, I’m pretty happy with the addition myself. Much clearer to see the shots. All these things cost money though so I’m trying to add stuff bit by bit 😂 Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Dude! An absolute delight to watch by! Only took the game up 9 months ago and being a fair weather golfer I’ve literally played 13 rounds! What a lucky number! it’s like I’m watching every shot I play! We must be golf ”hand” wins! Keep going bud! It’s the hope that kills me! Your putting rocks btw!
Me spelling is atrocious there! Not sure why there is a “by” in there and it was supposed to be “hand” twins! Aka joey from friends joke. I think it’s all about the timing! Totally nailed it!
Love that comment mate 👍🏻 And don’t worry, I got what you meant 😂 I love that people are finding the content relevant, helps to know I’m not the only one out there struggling along 😂 But I just love the game and I’m in it for life now. Best of luck with your game mate and I’d love if you’d keep me updated on your progress 👍🏻
Nice to watch an honest golfer and the hurdles you encounter as a new golfer. Also good to see that you will hopefully be highlighting different courses around Ireland. Good to see you playing off the forward tees makes the round more enjoyable than an endurance
Hi David, thanks for the positive comment. Will definitely have loads of different courses up. My plan is to play far and wide this year trying to feature as many new courses in different counties as possible. Obviously while maintaining a presence in my local club comps in order to try and improve the handicap. I definitely know my limits hence the forward tees. At my level it just makes the game that more enjoyable and a lot more score able.
Absolutely love this guy's personality, so glad iv came across your video's. You have inspired me to record my shot's. Keep it up mate, i would love a few pint's with you and talk non stop golf. Im obsessed with this game. From the first video you have improved a massive amount 👍🏻
Mate it’s comments like this that make all the effort worthwhile. Absolutely love this. Delighted that I could provide a small bit of inspiration 😄 The whole idea of my channel came from recording my swings just to see where I was going wrong. It really helps me and I’m sure you’ll see the benefit too, even if it can be a little uncomfortable watching it back sometimes 😂 One of the things that I’d love to get out of this channel is to create a small little like minded community of people who share a similar passion for the game as me. And it sounds like we certainly wouldn’t be stuck for conversation over a few pints 🍻 so don’t rule it out 😄👍🏻 Thanks a million for watching and leaving such a great comment. Jamie
Mate i hope nothing but the best for you, you got a brilliant personality for youtube and i think you only going to get a bigger and bigger following, i will certainly reccomend this channel to my freind's and i will continue to watch every video of your's for sure. If im ever in the great place of Ireland i will certainly send you a message. Keep up the good work mate and alway's keep yourself grounded 😁 and dont let the fame get to you 😂 . Take care mate 🙏👍🏻
Cheers Geoff, I really appreciate you helping to grow the channel 😄100%, if you're ever over, make sure you drop me a line and we'll make those pints happen 🍻🍻🍻
Ah cheers mate, sometimes I doubt whether the videos are any good so I love getting feedback like this. I like to try and make them lighthearted enough so it’s not just all golf shots 👍🏻 Thanks for watching mate and keep the faith 🏌🏻♂️
As a high handicap golfer myself I love to watch your videos and progress. Thank you for being inspirational and for the way you present yourself on the course. I am expecting you to be in single figures sooner rather than later. You talk about being under a little pressure but nothing can be more difficult than filming yourself with commentary, watching your pace of play and appearing quite calm as you are. Thank you, you give me some hope 👍
Mike, thanks a million for that comment. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been so busy lately that I didn’t have much time to practice, and any golf I have played has not been great. I was starting to wonder if this whole RUclips thing was a good idea. Then I get comments like this that remind me why I’m doing it. So genuinely thank you so much. I’m really glad the content is resonating with people. And yes, it can be quite a burden to film a golf round which definitely does impact on your quality of play, but I love the game and I love having people on this journey with me 👍🏻 Jamie
Very good round, you can see your confidence increasing when you play well. It is so relaxing when you play by yourself too, probably my favorite way to play.
Hi Bruce, thanks. Was reasonably happy with it. I’m a bit of a confidence player in that once I hit a few good shots, it relaxes me and I find I don’t have to think too much about the next shot. Whereas when I hit one or two bad shots I tend to panic a little bit. But hopefully in the video you can see I’m getting better at dealing with the bad shots. LOVE playing on my own. Not all the time of course but sometimes there’s nothing nicer than a few holes in the evening on your own, gives you a great chance to hone your game away from any prying eyes 👀
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper 100% agree and agree that a couple good shots relaxes you. I am learning from your technique of putting things behind you. My game and scores are exactly like your, except I tend to take a lot more penalty strokes than you do. In 18 holes I tend to have 5 horrendous shots, water, OB Woods, duff a 50 yarder that only goes 10 yards, etc. Keep up the good work.
Glad to hear I can be of some sort of help :) I was pleasantly surprised at how well I kept the ball in play, its not always the case 😂😂😂But it just shows that if you can cut out the penalty strokes, you give yourself a much better chance at shooting lower scores. We just have to keep the faith :) Thanks for watching Bruce, I'm already looking forward to making the next episode. Jamie
According to that shot tracer, youve been hitting some bullets out there. With as high as that wind is howling, thats not a bad thing. Another fun round of golf 🍻
Cheers mate, I’d like to say those bullets were intentional to play the wind but sometimes I like to surprise even myself with my drive shot shape 😂😂😂 It always takes me a few holes to find my form though so I think my driving improved as the round went on 👍🏻 Thanks a million for watching
What a round! With your accuracy off the tee and your short game, that handicap will be headed way down (maybe once your 4H loves you back as much as you love it).
Me and that 4 Hybrid had a serious falling out after that round 😂 haven’t been able to look at her since. Although, we’ll always have that 2nd shot on the 9th 😍 Cheers mate, really appreciate the positivity. I feel serveral parts of my game are starting to come together and I just need to tighten up some areas, particularly my second shots, and hopefully I might be able to produce some consistency and lower scores. Thanks a million for watching 👍🏻 Jamie
Great content mate 👏 the only handicap I have is picking up a golf club but if I was to average my scores I wouldn't be far off. Thank god for honest videos like this. Keep up the good work
Cheers mate, glad you’re enjoying the content. The whole premise of my channel is to give as honest a view as possible of my game and the struggles I encounter. The content is going to be very regular, even more so as the weather and daylight hours improve. Thanks a million for watching 👍🏻
Absolutely fantastic mate… well played indeed! Thoroughly enjoyed watching that solid round of yours… loads of pars and no ugly scores! Still left a few shots out there…. Ball striking was superb! Vast improvement from your last round…. You can take that confidence with you next time… Well played Jamie! 👍👍
Cheers David, much appreciated. Glad to hear that some improvement was noted as I felt I played a lot better than my last video. I’m still pretty amazed at how close I would have been to breaking 90 given I must have left at least 5 shots out there in terms of topping the ball and a couple of tree strikes. Huge encouragement for going forward. Delighted to hear you enjoyed watching, thats what keeps me motivated to keep producing the videos so thank you 👍🏻
Cheers Mark, thanks for checking out the videos. As you’ve probably noticed, the quality of the vids is significantly less back then 😂 Should have more new ones out soon 👌🏻
So good to see the video today.. Driver was cracking, irons were great too, loved that your game today meant you could keep it simple.. And so great that the few bad shots were quickly forgotten.. everyone hits a tree from time to time.. Great to see you enjoying it.. more videos when weather and time allows.. Lastly, totally agree with the comment about course over range.. The range is good for the swing but the course is great for improvement of the mind.. Thanks for sharing the journey
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it 😀 Was reasonably happy overall, need to tighten up on my second shots, as I’m losing strokes there but I feel if I can sort this part out, my game will be in reasonable shape. I’ve been striking them well since filming so fingers crossed for the next one. And I’m definitely going to have loads more videos when weather improves as comments like this really motivate me to keep going, so thanks for that 👍🏻
Tommy Fleetwood recently commented in an interview, that after a bad round you should pick out your 3 best shots and take those shot thoughts into your next round. Nice little mental pick me up. On the basis of that round , which certainly wasn't bad, choosing 3 best shots might have to change to 6 best shots! Your game definitely looks as if it's improving leaps and bounds. Putting certainly seems to be a stronger element in your game, with some lovely distance control! 👍 Nice golf course .
Cheers Gavin, nice little mental tip there alright. I like Tommy so if it’s good enough for him it’s good enough for me 😀 I do feel like my game has improved slightly so hoping I can continue to improve week by week. Felt my putting went well. If you can walk off most greens with two putts or under, I think you can be happy 👍🏻 Thanks for watching mate
Cheers mate, much appreciated 👍🏻. I’ve found that overall my scoring has become relatively consistent in that it’s mainly bogeys and double bogeys. Thanks for following along and likewise 👍🏻
Great video, was willing you on for every hole. Identified a lot of the situations I encounter in my home club of Abbeyleix and took some pointers from your approach to things. Your mid-iron play was great, that's the bit I need to get right!
Cheers Darren, glad you enjoyed the video and really appreciate the support 👍🏻 It’s nice to hear people are wishing me well 😊 Glad you took a few bits from the video, I didn’t think anyone could take anything from my game 😂 so it’s a pleasant surprise. I’ve never played Abbeyleix but I’ll have to get down sometime. Thanks for watching mate 👍🏻
I've dabbled with the game on and off for years, just trying to get into it again, mostly 9 hole pitch and putt, but I'm out on the big boys and girls course next week with a very competent buddy. Love watching these, got lots to catch up on, but whatever I do next week I won't be embarrassed, I'll just be thinking "What would Jamie say?" and enjoy myself 🙂
Absolutely love this comment 😁 Hopefully you’re watching in chronological order from earliest. If so, I can confirm that the editing improves with each one. At least I think it does 😂 So when you get closer to catching up I’d hope your enjoyment will only increase 😃 And I absolutely love that you’ll be using my thought process to ensure you enjoy the round no matter what. With golf there’ll always be more bad rounds than good so it’s important you take it on the chin and just enjoy being out on the course. Absolutely no one cares if you hit a bad shot, so why should you 👍🏻
Great stuff! Spent the last 1.5 years going from 29 handicap to current 20, looking to drop to sub-15 this season. Grind away and enjoy the journey. Subscribed!
Wow Mike, that’s a great improvement. Ive no doubt you’ll get to sub 15, I’ll be rooting for you. Thanks for the sub and well wishes, I really appreciate it 👍🏻
Thank you for your honest videos. I’m sick of seeing people be great at golf. It makes me sick to see everyone else doing good and enjoying golf becAsue I never have yet
Hi Shane, no problem. I try and make sure my videos are as honest as possible and I think that’s why a lot of people can relate to them. I try to give a true reflection of my golf game and the issues I struggle with 👍🏻
Cheers Mike, really appreciate it. Whenever I finish editing a video I always think to myself "Will anyone even enjoy watching this?" so it is a relief to hear that people do enjoy them. Makes me want to do more. So thanks again for watching and commenting.
@@Mike-wv2pn Hey Mike, your comment has blown me away. Cannot believe my little channel has had such a positive affect. I’ve just checked out your channel and I’m so impressed by your first video. I’ve liked and subscribed. Keep it up. Can’t wait to see more 👍🏻
Jamie, love your videos dude! you are really the funniest high handicapper on youtube! When you get the chance to play in the Netherlands once, I'll be happy to be your course-cameraman. Greetings from a dutch hh :)
Hi Roy, thank you so much. I'm delighted that are enjoying the channel and appreciate my humour 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I genuinely would love this channel to evolve into one where I travel around the world playing with subscribers from different countries so I 100% will put you down for the Netherlands trip 🇳🇱😁👍🏻
Great vid. One observation , which has nothing to do with talent... .. all good players hold a finish...don't ask me why , they just do. = copy good players. Keep up the progress you'll definitely get there!
Thanks mate, well observed. It’s something I always try and do down the range. I have had a few vids on my Instagram about working on sticking the finish however sometimes when I go out on the course I kind of forget about doing the basics/fundamentals, hence the handicap 😂 But I’m hoping that repetition down the range will help me build this into my game. Cheers for watching mate 👍🏻
I love your videos and attitude I've been ill quite badly with covid for the past six weeks and this has entertained me no end so thank you. I think it's now time to give something back..... One major bit of advice I can give you is please look at your feet on your videos and where you are aiming.... You always aim right, quite sevearly. You then have to cut across to make it go where you want it hence your right to left divots, this also means a low flight of left to right as you will see on your animated video swing ball path.... You have lots of good aspects of your swing and if you please spend time looking at your aiming with your feet I think you could quickly shave off 8-9 shots per round!! It's the easiest adjustment to make with maximum results so you are in a great position. In your last video it showed you are the range and you hit straight an clean, look at your feet they were perfect..... Please reply and I will keep watching you too as I know you will improve hugely. Great character, attitude and not far off being a teen handicap too 👍
Hi Rob, firstly sorry to hear about your health troubles. Hopefully that’s all behind you. And thanks so much for the kind words. Love getting feedback like that. And yes you’re right, my alignment continues to be an issue. I’m trying to improve things bit by bit. For instance, after my last round, I was really concentrating on not lifting my left leg and also trying to stop coming over the top. So I think I’ve done okay at improving those aspects. I think going forward I’ll take your advice and make my alignment a key focus when standing over my shots. Thanks again for watching Rob and the words of encouragement, I really, really appreciate it 👍🏻 Jamie
Your poor Mrs 😂😂😂 Tell her I apologise and I'm working on my alignment asap 😂 Just looked up Ballinamore. I'm about 2.5 hours away but I plan on playing as many new courses as possible this year in different counties around Ireland so I'll stick it on the list and hopefully get to play it soon. Delighted to hear you've been sampling our Guinness, there's nothing quite like it here. It's all I drink 👍
Man, maybe that's my issue. I might give left handed a go 😂😂😂 I can't be any worse haha Only joking, I'll stick with trying to nail the alignment for now. As you said, most of my poorer traits probably stem from it 👍
Great to watch. Holed up in bed with Covid for the past week so really pleased to see one of your videos come up. Couldn’t help commenting that the 4 hybrid is much too much club for 150 yards after seeing you trying it a couple of times. It forces you to not put a proper swing on it. Hope you don’t mind me saying so. Dave (from Brisbane)
Sorry to hear about the health issues Dave, wishing you a very speedy recovery mate. Glad my vid could provide a little bit of entertainment for you. I think you’re right about 4 Hybrid, I’ll probably be taking a 6 iron in future (7 once we hit summer perhaps) 👍🏻 Thanks for watching, much appreciated, as always. Jamie 🇮🇪
Cheers mate, I've been struggling with the same. My last filmed round was end of January and this latest round was the first bit of decent weekend weather we've had since then. I've been out playing in all sorts of weather, mostly wind and rain. Certainly not conducive to filming good golf content haha Thanks for watching and hopefully the better weather is on its way.
Just found you through Bad Golf, loving the videos. I've just got my first handicap (28) and see so many similarities in your game to mine as a high handicapper. Look forward to following your journey, keep up the good work 👏⛳
Hi James, cheers mate. Glad you’re enjoying the channel. Nice to know people can relate to my struggles 😃 Best of luck with your game and I’d love if you kept me updated on your progress 👍🏻
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper will do, just been playing with my Dad and brother in law so far really, but just about getting the balls to play with different people now 😂👌 If only we could all just play on our own 🤣
Really like the videos. It's a hugely mental game out there and if you can manage to just enjoy the game for what it is meaning the bad shots as much as the good ones you'll improve dramatically. Keep it up
Hey mate, delighted you’re enjoying the videos. I’ll have episode 6 out next week and it’s the best one yet if I do say so myself 😊 Cheers for the advice, I find the biggest barrier for me is mental/attitude so working hard on just relaxing and taking each shot as it comes. Thanks for watching mate 👍🏻
That was great! I can already seen you've eliminated the OAFs and you played so well! It's a beautiful course you have there - the sea, countryside, what's not to love? Even if you hit a bad shot, is there any better way to shake off the day, or forget about everything, than being out there in your favourite place. Can't wait for the next - I see a handicap reduction very soon!
Thanks very much 😊 I’m hoping the OAFs are a thing of the past. I’ve been working quite hard on it and the difference it has made to my swing is great. My left heel does still have a tendency to sneak up slightly so just need to keep an eye on it. Exactly. It’s why I love golf. The courses are just absolutely stunning places to spend a few hours. Hence why I don’t even mind going out on my own. It’s always important to have that perspective particularly when its not going your way. How’s your progress going? 😀
The single most valuable word for a high-handicapper is 'mulligan' - LOL (might be a Canadian term and not to be confused with the stew). Seriously though, in the past I've played a 1-player/ 2-ball scramble. Essentially play every shot twice, take the best shot and continue. You can't count the score, but you will build confidence in knowing you can be successful.
Yep, we have mulligans here too however they can never be asked for....only offered 😂😂😂 You'd be a brave man in Ireland asking for a mulligan when the rest of your group are sat in the fairway 😂 I like that strategy. Lots of times I'll go out and practice with two balls. However, for me my big issue is playing in competition with pressure, so a lot of times I'll try to recreate this pressure in practice by playing the game exactly as I have to in competition. It's all about getting a good balance in your training and working on all facets of the game. BTW - I did an erasmus in Canada when I was about 19, in Bishops University in Quebec so I've always had a soft spot for Canadians. I hope to make it back one day 👍
Jamie I have to say that was really enjoyable! 👍👍 It looks a lovely course and as you say from the slope rating it’s obviously tough but that will stand you in good stead for the future as being a member at an easy flat course isn’t going to help your progression. I was willing every shot and putt you hit! You are starting to see your confidence and that the practice on the range is showing in the better shots on the course! Look we are always going to hit some bad ones as that’s the standard as amateurs that we are but it’s just about reducing the bad ones gradually. In the comment about range vs course I’m course ALL DAY LONG! Don’t get me wrong the range is good for practice but the course is the proper reality with wind, rain, elevation, nerves, etc etc and not a flat clean lie every time like the range. Gotta love the bump and run and dam those pesky trees! Someone once said they are 90% air but I think that’s a cruel lie as I always find a branch or 5!!! Your swing looked good, a few shots still left to right which practice will sort out and don’t forget the short game practice area as chips and putts will drop more shots on the card than anything!! What driver do you use? It has a lovely meaty muted crack which I really like!! 😁👍👍🏌️♂️🏌️♂️
Hi Stephen, delighted to hear you enjoyed it 😀 It’s so good to hear people are willing me on. I’ve been blessed with the support I’ve received so early on and it makes a huge difference in encouraging me to keep up the channel, so thanks. It’s really nice knowing people are wishing me well. You’re spot on. I really feel that if I can just concentrate a bit more over every shot, and eliminate those duffs and tops, I’d shave at least 5 strokes off my game. Man I’m convinced the trees that I hit are 90% branches because I always seem to find them 😂 Agree with your comment on Range vs Course. I’ve nothing against the range, I like the range in terms of dialling in swing mechanics but there’s only so much you can do. The course is a different beast and that’s where you are judged so you need to have as much practice on the course as possible, even more so than the range. I'm playing a Cobra Radspeed which I was fitted for, I'm pretty happy with it...when I'm hitting it well 😂😂😂 Thanks for watching Stephen 👍🏻
Cheers mate, was pretty devastated I didn’t get to finish, pretty sure I would have gotten my best ever round. But as you can see, I tried my best 😂 What’s in the bag episode coming very soon 👀
Cheers mate, got a little lucky with the third coming up just short of the water but the up and down was pretty good if I do say so myself 😂 Thanks for watching
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper it’s not luck, take it as a good shot 👍🏻 Some of fringe shots, I’d be bumping an 8 iron rather that the PW. But ignore my advice as I’m completely shit at golf 🙈
😂😂😂 I love the honesty Rich. I also love a bump and run. I use an 8 Iron most of the time, but throw in the odd PW if I feel the conditions of the shot merit it.
Tell me about it mate 😂 I was trying my absolute hardest to finish but it was getting quite dark. It actually looked a lot brighter on camera (and I did edit the brightness of the footage also). I only realised when editing the footage how close I would have been to breaking 90. But it gives me hope that it is possible, especially when you consider how many shots I threw away particularly early on. Thanks for watching Ken, much appreciated 👍🏻
Another great video, looked like you were gona have a good round pity you ran out of day light , play on the course as much as possible it’s were you will get your most improvement, looking forward to the next one great fun
Cheers Michael, I tried my hardest but I just couldn’t get the 18 in. It doesn’t really look like it on camera but it was getting quite dark, the sun had pretty much set. I only realised when editing how close I was to breaking 90 as I wasn’t really keeping score at the time (there’s probably a lesson in that), but it does give me hope that breaking 90 is possible. Thanks for watching and I hope I can continue to produce content that you find enjoyable 😀
You remind me a lot of myself. I’m in middle Tennessee in the United States. I let the mental part of the game get the best of me. The first tee jitters. Especially if I play alone with people i don’t know and are better than me (which I do most of the time)
Sounds like we’re the exact same John. My scores when I play a casual round with friends compared to comps with strangers are night and day. But I find the only way to overcome this is by just getting out there and keep trying. The slightly better I get in terms of playing the less nervous I get. Delighted to hear you’re finding the content relatable 👍🏻 Keep the faith 🏌🏻♂️
Great video! Playing off 25 myself although when Im consistent off the tee and with the putter I can score alot with a 39 being my best 9. One thing to consider giving a go out of curiosity and would make a good video....play a full round with just 4 clubs - 4h/driver , 7iron, PW and putter. I've shot some of my best scores doing similar just by taking out some of the decision making and forcing me to play different types of shots
Cheers mate. 39 over 9 holes is incredible. That’s single handicapper territory. I’m yet to crack 45 but I’ll get there 👍🏻 Just shows you how much potential you have. Might try out that idea mate, thanks 👍🏻
keep up the grind fella, you have definitely improved! I would say for you if you can use grass tee's for practice at the range to monitor your strike (mats are no good for this, they hide fat shots) and look to develop a 60-80 yard pitch shot with a club that goes more forward than high, your SW is costing you shots coming up short, I used to do the same so went to using half or three quarter pitch shots with my gap or PW. - looking at this round I would either put a lot of practice in with the hybrid or use another club for now as you struggle with it a bit, a well struck Iron will be better than a duffed Hybrid - overall there was some great shots in there 👍
Cheers mate, glad to see some improvement has been noted. At the moment there’s no ranges near me that have grass tees so I am struggling with the lack of practice facilities as I hate the mats for the very reason you just outlined. Hopefully once the weather gets better they’ll open up some outdoor bays. Definitely need a lower lifted club for when the ball is sat up in rough. Too many times I’ve been caught out with too much loft. Will definitely take your advice. In terms of the hybrid, I genuinely hit it well when practicing. But I’ll definitely keep an eye on the on course strikes. Thanks for the words of encouragement, it’s much appreciated 👍🏻
Ah guys that's great to hear. Glad you're enjoying the channel and blown away that it provided some inspiration. I just started it on a complete whim so to hear it has encouraged other people is incredible. Hopefully we might be able to get a round in together sometime in the future. Keep up the good work.
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper - well you have smashed it mate - shows that there is such demand for relatable golf content. Would be great to film something together in summer
Thanks Keith, was relatively pleased. Hopefully I can carry this form into comps. I noticed that too on a couple of shots so will definitely try out a slightly higher tee. I used to tee it higher however I skied the ball a few times and that made me nervous so I tee it down slightly lower now. But my driving has improved a bit so maybe the extra height will work 👍🏻 Thanks for watching Keith and the tip 🏌🏻♂️
Ref tee shot with driver, see Alex Elliot golf tips on driver skying the ball not always the tee height it can be the swing being a down ward strike similar to an iron shot and not the upward sweep required for the driver. I suffer from an out to in swing and the classic over the top, so max height is the blue standard tees. 3 wood I hit of the shortest standard tee about 5 mm Alignment is critical often we make the mistake of looking left at our target from our address position and think we should align to target whereas our shoulders and feet are on a line parallel to the ball to target line. I find mats cause me Issues with impact and shock transferring into fingers, currently chomping at the bit to play a pulled back sidelined me For 4 weeks. Should be put this weekend but other issues stopping me and new driver arrives Monday 😀😀
Sorry to hear about the injury, hopefully this just means you'll be well rested when you do get out 😀 Congrats on the new driver, there's no better feeling. What one did you go for? I recently played with a guy who had the stealth, and he let me hit a few with it. Man, I think I'm in love. I only bought my cobra brand new late last year and I'm already thinking about trading it in for a stealth. I was comfortably outdriving my cobra, which I was fitted for 😂😂😂
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper PXG 0211 you can get fitted and price is £205, the next model up has about 4 weights in the head allowing to be really dialled into your swing that’s under £300. Mind you the driver is noisy with its impact sound is a sharp “crack” to me it’s only an issue in the Ange as you hit several shots. On the course it’s a one off per hole
Love the content man, your getting there. I am the same in competition, gets in my head. Course practice for sure, I use the practice area at my club to get realistic practice. I play off 27. Would you be up for a game.? I’m in the north, so can come to you or your welcome to a round at Tandragee Goluf Club where I am a member
Hey mate, thanks very much. Glad you’re enjoying the content. Would definitely be up for a game. If you’re ever down around Wicklow feel free to drop a message and I can book us a tee time. Or alternatively if I’m up your way I’ll reach out for a round. Would be great to tee it up sometime 👍🏻🏌🏻♂️
Brilliant video, really enjoyed it👌 definite improvement. RUclips does have a donate feature. I’ve seen the button on some videos (don’t know how to enable it). I’d be willing to donate a little towards a cameraman. Wow you rely on your 4 hybrid a lot. I don’t know if you were fitted for it, if not I would definitely recommend it.
Hi Gavin, love hearing people are enjoying the videos, makes it all worthwhile. That’s a very kind offer, much appreciated, I think I’ll soldier on on my own for a little bit and see how we get on. I’d feel bad asking a professional to record some of the shots I hit 😂 Yeah I was fitted for the 4 Hybrid, along with my driver. I just had a few bad shots with it this round which can happen for me with any club. If I put away every club that I hit a few bad shots with I’d have none left 😂 I can actually hit it well in practice and from time to time on the course. But will definitely keep an eye on it and unless I start using it more consistently on the course, I’ll reevaluate my shot strategy. Thanks for watching Gavin and leaving a helpful comment 👍🏻
I’ve noticed-even from only a month ago (upload)-you’re keeping your left foot more anchored on takeaway. Likely why you’re also getting more club head speed (more stability, better rotation, more torque in your lower body). Jack Nicklaus used to have that ol’ flying left foot but he could repeat movements better than any other human and he’d plant that left heel while pushing off his right. You weren’t doing that. And you were losing power. Two things I’d note in your swing (I’d encourage you to heed): 1) step up a tiny bit more to the ball. Stand up a little straighter and step up an inch or two. Your flat swing doesn’t BOTHER me but I’m betting you’ll have better contact and a more dependable ball flight if you do. It will feel a tiny bit weird at first. Overcome the feeling. In your mind, imagine a figure skater in a spin. They spin faster when they bring their arms in closer to their body and more slowly when they extend them. Basic physics. Step up and stand straighter at address. 2) Just like EVERY. OTHER. HIGH. HANDICAPPER. you look so smooth and in rhythm… ON YOUR PRACTICE SWING. Then for your shot, you’re stabbing at it a lot. Tempo, sir. Better rhythm THROUGH the swing. Start slowly at the top and gradually accelerate as you unwind your body. Do these two things and you’ll shave five strokes off your handicap. But you’ll have to practice it.
Hi Paul, thanks for watching and the really helpful feedback. I can see that it has proven quite useful for not only me but a couple of other subscribers too 😊 I had been working hard on controlling my left heel as it seemed to have a mind of its on so I'm glad to see it's been noticed. Still sneaks up ever so slightly from time to time but it's a work in progress. Definitely helped in terms of my ball striking. Still tend to rush shots out on the course compared to my practice swing as you pointed out but again, I think I've improved slightly since the previous episode. I just need to keep working hard and I'm sure eventually I'll be able to repeat my practice swing during the real thing. I'm in this game for life and have become more patient with myself and the game, so just looking for small improvements round by round.
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper Thank you, sir, for your kind words. I’m very much encouraged by your work. Continue to have fun with it! You’ll surprise yourself (I suspect) when you get your posture correct and a smooth, even tempo. You have many great holes ahead of you… keep swingin. BTW: don’t worry TOO much by your left heel. If the overall balance is solid, a little “rise” ain’t gunna hurtcha too much 😀
Totally understand the opening holes issues especially if with a group, I have played majority of rounds on my own but have joined a 9 hole club and bee joining groups on a Saturday starting to help. Range V course practice, one is used for your swing the other to play the game. On the range get no variable Lies, fat shots minimised, don’t see line of the divot/ strike, variable bounce and critically do you practice the 60 yard and in chips / pitches? I have a pay as play complex Near me 5 x 9 hole courses with range of difficulty but twilight even in summer can see me the only person on the course which allows dropping second ball or more to practice or try an alternate shot. Good luck soon you’ll soon be breaking 90
Thanks a million mate. Completely agree in terms of range vs course. Out on the course is where you are judged and marked on so it’s really important that you practice there as much as possible. I think that will also help with the “early holes” issue as the more comfortable you are out there, the less nervous you will be. You can be down the range 7 days a week but that won’t do anything for the nerves when you step onto the course. Thanks for the well wishes, I hope you’re right 😀 best of luck with your game also 👍🏻
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper also first tee use the 90% success club eg iron , hybrid or whatever gets you away well. After a couple of holes then you can get the driver put to make a horlicks off 😂
Great putting there. Not sure I fancy playing with you if that's how you'll play. I'll be put to shame! Ignore the guys saying range only. The range is a place where you just don't think about the shot. On the course you need to think and understand the implications of how that bad shot will play out.
I can very much assure you that this round is much better than my normal. I find that my game is all based on confidence and once I hit a bit of form, good shots just happen. But it doesn’t always work out like that for me. And I think I holed a lot of putts that on another day I may not have. And I fully agree in terms of range/course. I go to the range just to work on some swing mechanics but if you don’t practice regularly on the course, you’ve no hope. Thanks for watching Matt
Cheers mate, thanks for watching. On my day, I can play ok golf and I feel like a sub 20 handicap is possible but the problem for me is inconsistency and those "days" are few and far between. We live in hope though. I also find it much easier to play on my own which obviously is no good for handicap lowering purposes, other than the practice of course.
And the rest John 😂 I’m gonna do a short episode soon on what clubs I use and what’s in my bag but as you can see, I don’t have any woods and it’s a huge gap in my bag. Need to sort it out 👍🏻
I actually have a friend who lives in Glasgow who is probably due a visit so if I’m over I’d be more than happy for a game. I certainly wouldn’t be betting on myself though 😂
So I'm currently basically always doubling w/e par is on every hole and then I pick up. Maybe it's partially due to my buddies making me play from the blue tees, not that I likely save any strokes anyways but any advice appreciated from all! (I've done some lessons and contact has improved but still obviously suck..a lot 😅). Like how did you choose what clubs you got yourself, or what clubs to carry or not (like having a hybrid), I have likely 20-30yr old clubs with the exception of my drive which is newer but also needing a new shaft for it now?
Personally I don’t think it is doing you any favours playing from the blue tees. I always try and play from the most forward tees available to me. Just makes the game a lot more enjoyable. Although slightly trickier for you if your friends are all playing from the back but I’d have to imagine you’d definitely save strokes and enjoy the game more if you just moved up some tees. In terms of clubs I just listened to advice and did some research online. I went into two different golf stores and both recommended the exact same set of clubs so I went with that advice. Then I was recommended to get a hybrid as it’s supposedly easier to hit than say a 5 iron, although some days I’m not sure 😂 I got fitted for that along with my driver
Hey Stephen, golf is going ok 😄 Really sorry about the lack of upload. I was away in Norway for a week and then was in Spain for a week for work so I had very little time for golf recently. Life just got in the way a bit. BUT….. the good news is, episode 6 is already filmed and I’m currently editing it. And if I do say so myself, I think it’s the best one yet 🙂 Should be ready in a week or so. And thanks for the message, it’s nice to know there’s people waiting on the episodes, I’ll try not leave it as long the next time 👍🏻
Ahh that’s good to hear Jamie, I hate it when life gets in the way of golf! Lol! Looking forward to Episode 6 and more with the coming good weather and summer on the horizon 😁👍👍☀️☀️
A great book to read for the mental game is Zen Goal by Dr Joseph Parent, it helps you with the 1st tee shot nerves, I read it some years ago and found it better than the Bob Rotella books.
Wow, I’ll have to give a look so. I previously read Bob Rotellas “Golf is not a game of perfect” and absolutely loved it. I’m currently tearing through Siphnucks unauthorised biography on Mickleson. Once I’m done I’ll give Zen Goal a read. Thanks mate 👍🏻
I read all the comments hoping to find someone telling you to stay off the course so I could have a pop. There are too many pillocks in golf, but your money is just as good as theirs.
Cheers Ian. To be honest, I think the advice was more so saying that I should practice at the range to improve my game however for me, when I’m at the range, I can repeatedly hit the ball straight however when I step on the course, nerves take over a little and I start mishitting shots. So going back the range is not going to fix that. Obviously range sessions are important but they should never replace the chance to practice on the course, in my opinion anyway. Thanks for watching mate and cheers for the support 👍🏻
I’ve found that the only way to enjoy golf when your terrible is to only play alone and never compete or keep score. Sometimes I can score nearly all pars but if someone is watching I can’t keep the ball in play
If you can play that well on your own, you are half way there mate. Sounds like we’re similar in getting nervous playing in front of people. But if you love the game, the only way to overcome that is by keep trying. Use the rounds on your own when you play well to build your confidence and prove to yourself that you can do it, even in front of people 👍🏻 Keep the faith
Nothing wrong at all on the 4th! 4 v average shots to find the green and 2 decent putts for a bogey 6(2pt ). Just goes to show how eliminating terrible shots and good putting could reduce your hcap to 18.
Would strongly suggest that you work on correcting your over-the-top swing motion with most of your clubs, especially your driver. This is what is causing you to pull shots and is costing you some distance. You have a fundamentally sound swing overall, so fixing this one thing should not be difficult with proper practice.
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper If I were able to change one thing, this would be it. I hope you're see the benefits of putting in the work. Good for you. Cheers.
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper Lol a tad less. I’m not trying to hate. I watch your content. It’s fun. Then again you may play a lot more difficult courses then I do.
😂😂😂 I think I actually have lost a subscriber so it must be down to the Liverpool thing! Cheers though. Overall it went well. Even though theres still huge room for improvement 👍🏻 It’s all about patience 🏌🏻♂️
take a look at ,,,not a perfect golfer ,,,as you will see that timing is better than power ,,power causes to much movement for a high handicapper ...lower your handicap then increase your power ,,,,
Yeah I'm subscribed to his channel. I absolutely love his videos. I love how he knows his swing and his ability and plays to it. The fact that he is now as low as 15 shows that you don't necessarily need to hit the ball a mile but just play smart. He's also an extremely good putter which helps. My game is a constant work in progress and I'm documenting my journey as hopefully it relates to people so hopefully I can improve in time.
Ah thanks very much Larry, what a lovely comment to receive 😃 Well done on taking up the sport again after so long, you won’t regret it 😀
Don’t worry about the score for now. Just get used to playing again and focus on enjoying the round and the scores will quickly improve. Thanks for watching and I hope to have more vids out very soon 👍🏻
That was an impressive round. Keep that up and that handicap will plummet. You'd beat me any day with that golf..... respect.
Thanks Tom, I appreciate the encouragement. This round kind of epitomises my issues to date. I can play reasonably well at times but still have too many mishits or tops etc. if I can eliminate those, I think I’ll do ok. Thanks for watching mate 👍🏻
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper . I was on for my best round of the year last Wednesday….then a 10 and a 9 on consecutive holes …. Oh well ….
Holes like that can easily happen. It's just important to remember that before those holes, you were clearly playing very good golf. Focus on that as opposed to the bad couple of holes. You clearly have the ability 👍🏻
Excellent round for a high handicapper. Your approach putting is very good.
Love the addition of the shot tracer , makes the vids , that bit easier to follow and more enjoyable
Great to hear Darren, I’m pretty happy with the addition myself. Much clearer to see the shots. All these things cost money though so I’m trying to add stuff bit by bit 😂 Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Liked for the running and talking to the cam shot!
Cheers Mark, much appreciated. All in the name of good RUclips content (I hope) 😀
Awh ya gotta love this guy.honest and humourous in a game that would draw out the worst of you.👏fair play
😂 Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Yes i certainly will mate defo🍻🍻. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
im a bad 25 handicapper ..your personality shines through. keep up the great videos pal..good luck
Although, we’ll always have that 2nd shot on the 9th 😍
Cheers mate, really appreciate the positivity.
Delighted to hear you enjoyed watching, thats what keeps me motivated to keep producing the videos so thank you 👍🏻
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper Ya welcome mate… looking forward to seeing you get out there again..
Cheers…. 👍
Great watch again. ⛳️
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it
Great score. I am slowly catching up with your old videos.
Cheers Mark, thanks for checking out the videos. As you’ve probably noticed, the quality of the vids is significantly less back then 😂 Should have more new ones out soon 👌🏻
You are improving Jamie, good job mate.
Thanks Peter, definitely feel like I made a little bit of progress. Hopefully it can continue 👍🏻
And I’m definitely going to have loads more videos when weather improves as comments like this really motivate me to keep going, so thanks for that 👍🏻
That course looks smashing. I love to see you play. Sometimes you do the same things I tend to do "over the bunker onto the green".
😂 that shot sums up my game. Stupid little mistakes like that costing me an extra couple of strokes. All part of the learning curve 👍🏻
Some solid golf there! Enjoy the content!
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Tommy Fleetwood recently commented in an interview, that after a bad round you should pick out your 3 best shots and take those shot thoughts into your next round.
Love this video, what a great round!
I react in exactly the same was when I get pars and the occasional birdy, I literally can’t believe I did it 😃
What’s a birdy? 😂 Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it. I just love getting scores that resemble actual golf scores 😂
Nice! It always helps when you can eliminate the blow-up holes.
I look forward to seeing your progress!
Absolutely love this comment 😁
Hopefully you’re watching in chronological order from earliest. If so, I can confirm that the editing improves with each one. At least I think it does 😂 So when you get closer to catching up I’d hope your enjoyment will only increase 😃
And I absolutely love that you’ll be using my thought process to ensure you enjoy the round no matter what.
Thanks for the sub and well wishes, I really appreciate it 👍🏻
Great stuff Jamie keep it up 👍💪🏌️
Cheers Damien, thanks for watching 👍🏻
Fantastic 👏🏻👏🏻
Cheers mate 👍🏻
Thank you for your honest videos. I’m sick of seeing people be great at golf. It makes me sick to see everyone else doing good and enjoying golf becAsue I never have yet
Hi Shane, no problem. I try and make sure my videos are as honest as possible and I think that’s why a lot of people can relate to them. I try to give a true reflection of my golf game and the issues I struggle with 👍🏻
Keep golfing sir. Love your videos.
Cheers Mike, really appreciate it. Whenever I finish editing a video I always think to myself "Will anyone even enjoy watching this?" so it is a relief to hear that people do enjoy them. Makes me want to do more. So thanks again for watching and commenting.
@Diary of a High Handicapper I started my own channel, golfing with a disability. Your channeled gave me the idea to do it. So again ty sir.
I'm delighted that are enjoying the channel and appreciate my humour 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I genuinely would love this channel to evolve into one where I travel around the world playing with subscribers from different countries so I 100% will put you down for the Netherlands trip 🇳🇱😁👍🏻
I love your videos and attitude
I've been ill quite badly with covid for the past six weeks and this has entertained me no end so thank you.
Jamie 🇮🇪
Good round, weather here has been 60 and sunny one day and snowy the next :/ can't wait for better weather
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper I can definitely relate lol :) summer weather on the horizon!
I'm playing a Cobra Radspeed which I was fitted for, I'm pretty happy with it...when I'm hitting it well 😂😂😂
Thanks for watching Stephen 👍🏻
Great round on a beautiful evening. Wish you could have gotten to finish. Can you do a "What's in the bag?" Segment. Maybe as a short? Keep it up.
Cheers mate, was pretty devastated I didn’t get to finish, pretty sure I would have gotten my best ever round. But as you can see, I tried my best 😂 What’s in the bag episode coming very soon 👀
Hole 2 was played great, the putt was 👍🏻
Cheers mate, got a little lucky with the third coming up just short of the water but the up and down was pretty good if I do say so myself 😂 Thanks for watching
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper it’s not luck, take it as a good shot 👍🏻
Some of fringe shots, I’d be bumping an 8 iron rather that the PW. But ignore my advice as I’m completely shit at golf 🙈
😂😂😂 I love the honesty Rich. I also love a bump and run. I use an 8 Iron most of the time, but throw in the odd PW if I feel the conditions of the shot merit it.
Great to watch, but so frustrating that you couldn’t finish to see your overall score. Well played.
Low and left, it’s like you are a mirror of my results.
Maybe we should set up a support group 😂
keep up the grind fella, you have definitely improved!
Relatable golf content - gen finely inspired us to create content also
Ah guys that's great to hear.
Yes just enjoy
All about enjoyment mate 👍🏻
Great round Jamie sounds a bit like your brushing the ground first when you tee off with your driver try teeing it up a bit higher.
3 wood I hit of the shortest standard tee about 5 mm
Alignment is critical often we make the mistake of looking left at our target from our address position and think we should align to target whereas our shoulders and feet are on a line parallel to the ball to target line.
I find mats cause me
Issues with impact and shock transferring into fingers, currently chomping at the bit to play a pulled back sidelined me
For 4 weeks.
I’d feel bad asking a professional to record some of the shots I hit 😂
Yeah I was fitted for the 4 Hybrid, along with my driver.
Thanks Paul - I know this advice is for Jamie but I'll take it too :)
Yes, can I use this tool ? 😊
If the overall balance is solid, a little “rise” ain’t gunna hurtcha too much 😀
Cheers Paul, thanks again 👍🏻
Totally understand the opening holes issues especially if with a group, I have played majority of rounds on my own but have joined a 9 hole club and bee joining groups on a Saturday starting to help.
Range V course practice, one is used for your swing the other to play the game. On the range get no variable Lies, fat shots minimised, don’t see line of the divot/ strike, variable bounce and critically do you practice the 60 yard and in chips / pitches?
I have a pay as play complex
Near me 5 x 9 hole courses with range of difficulty but twilight even in summer can see me the only person on the course which allows dropping second ball or more to practice or try an alternate shot.
After a couple of holes then you can get the driver put to make a horlicks off 😂
😂😂😂😂 Nothing like a snap hook with the first drive of the day to put your ego in check 😂
25 HC my ass. Looking like an 18. Well done. I love playing on my own. Relaxing and free. Cheers.
Happy belated St. Paddy's ☘☘ Hope you didn't hit any Druids on the head!
Thanks Frank 👍🏻🇮🇪☘️ Given how wayward some of my shots go, I can never be too certain 😂 Thanks for watching
Definitely think you need a 5 Wood 😁
And the rest John 😂 I’m gonna do a short episode soon on what clubs I use and what’s in my bag but as you can see, I don’t have any woods and it’s a huge gap in my bag. Need to sort it out 👍🏻
I'll give you a game just over the water in Scotland. I still reckon you would beat me though but it would be a laugh
Hey Jamie!! How’s the golf going?? It’s been nearly a month since the last video! Is everything ok over there!? 😳😳👍
What range do you use. Looks decent
Greystones. It’s very good 👍🏻
Have a try of Corbalis.
Firmly on the list. I’ve heard it’s great 👍🏻
@@DiaryofaHighHandicapper it’s a great little links course. Was only €25 when we played last year too.
It’s actually amazing. One of the biggest things I’ve learned in my golfing “career” to date is the importance of just keeping the ball in play 👍🏻
Prediction - you’re off 18 by September
Huge call! I’d bite your hand off for that right now
Would strongly suggest that you work on correcting your over-the-top swing motion with most of your clubs, especially your driver. This is what is causing you to pull shots and is costing you some distance. You have a fundamentally sound swing overall, so fixing this one thing should not be difficult with proper practice.
Hi mate, this was filmed a year ago so have been working on hard on it. It's proving a little tricky but I'm putting in the work 👍
