    Those of you that haven't - give the lad a boost and subscribe - I can see that 8.1k have viewed butu only 3.65K subs - it's great genuine content and if you watch, you are interested in golf, and in which case support this chap putting it all out there! I can identify with this so much as I'm 28 handicap right now, came in today after a grey and cold day and scored 25 over 18. Yep.

      Ah cheers mate, I really appreciate that comment. I put a lot of effort into the videos so it’s nice to get comments like this as it makes the hard work worth it. And with the subs, it might seem like a small gesture but it makes such a massive difference in helping to grow the channel so thanks for trying to encourage others to hit that button 👍🏻

    I'm a high handicapper as well and really appreciate your mental game. Emphasizing there positive, keeping your head in it and not getting frustrated.
    The key is to enjoy playing golf, and thanks for sharing your enjoyment!

      Cheers mate, glad to hear you appreciate the mindset. When I first started playing I wasn’t always like that, I would get very frustrated at a poor shot or be in a bad mood after a poor round but I’ve learned just to take the good with the bad and enjoy being out on the course regardless. I also think that mentality actually helps you to play better too.
      Thanks for watching and good luck with your golf game 👍🏻

      Well it’s good to know it’s not just a high handicapper thing 😂 Honestly, I’m just so conditioned now to not talk about my game at all because when I do it always results in catastrophe. Sometimes when I’m playing with strangers, and I start well, they’ll ask me “what did you say your handicap was again?” and no sooner do the words leave their lips, my game turns to absolute 💩😂
      And thanks. I thought I played quite well, i was just a bit sloppy in places. Definitely the best I’ve struck the ball in a long time.

    @jeremycrowley994 5 месяцев назад +1

    Well done....Rathsallagh looks like a nice track must try and play it when weather improves. Just a few bits of advice (hope you don't mind me saying it..) 1. You tend to keep your weight on you right side a bit when hitting ball try and shift your weight more to your left side when striking the ball. 2. Bunker play longer back swing hit a inch of so behind ball and commit to the shot. You are well able to strike the ball I see no reason why you can't be "Diary of a Mid Handicapper" 👍

    • @DiaryofaHighHandicapper
      @DiaryofaHighHandicapper  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks very much Jeremy. Appreciate the positive feedback 👍🏻
      I’m terrible for shifting to my right hand side and staying there. Sometimes I go out and pretty much keep all my weight on my lead side throughout the swing (I know this is technically incorrect also) and the difference it makes in terms of my ball striking. Not sure why I don’t just do it all the time 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Rathsallagh is beautiful, particularly in the summer time. I play it 2-3 times a year so would definitely urge you to get out there. Tee times are usually decent enough even on weekends.
      Thanks for watching Jeremy and I hope you continue to enjoy my channel 👍🏻

  • @marshallhilfman
    @marshallhilfman 4 месяца назад +1

    Hey man I think better club selection from that 130-160 range might benefit you a lot. I lowered my handicap about five strokes by taking a 7 iron form 140 instead of a nine and only having the thought of "just make good contact" in my head! Also, decide 100% on what type of shot shape you want to hit and what hazards you want to avoid or flight the ball over if you are shaping it before you even step up to the ball! Keeping it in play with that mindset is super important! Keep your head up out there and try to have fun, I think a lot of us struggle in that department 🤣

    • @DiaryofaHighHandicapper
      @DiaryofaHighHandicapper  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks mate.
      My normal thought process is 8 Iron for 140, 7 Iron for 150 and 6 Iron for 160. Then I'll take into account wind, slope, flag position, and what part of the green I'm aiming for etc.
      For example, it might say 140 to a back pin but I might take 9 Iron as I'm actually aiming for 130 with some run out.
      Thanks for the feedback and watching the video. I always try to enjoy myself regardless of how I play. I just try and enjoy being out on the course.

    Really enjoying the video, fair play chief. Am just through the 11th hole. As others have mentioned - you've a great attitude. I love when you big up one of your own shots - we Irish can be too self deprecating at times and I think that's a great way to keep yourself going strong. I used play Rathsallagh very regularly when I lived in Dublin, but haven't played there in over 10 years. One of my favourite courses, myself and my buddy used call it our ancestral home (we weren't joined anywhere in those days).
    Mind if I ask though - when was the video actually recorded? I thought they had re-routed the place, and added a new par 3 between the old first (what you played as the first) and old second. From what I heard, the 10th (as you played it) is now the first.

    • @DiaryofaHighHandicapper
      @DiaryofaHighHandicapper  4 месяца назад

      Hi Mate, thanks a million. Glad you're enjoying the vid 👍🏻 I try and remain positive as much as I can and that includes celebrating the little wins 🏆 When I first started playing, I think I was too hard on myself and didn't appreciate how tough golf can be. So now I just try and enjoy being out on the course and take the rough with the smooth.
      The video was recorded on August 8th 2023 and features the "New" routing. I only played the course about 2 years ago for my first time and the routing back then was different to it now in the video. I don't know what it was like 10 years ago but perhaps it has gone back to the original routing?
      The big changes from when I played it 2 years ago to now are that the 1st and 10th have swapped. The 10th used to be the opening tee shot. The 2nd also used to be a par 3 over water (which I really loved). However, this is now the 7th hole and you tee off from a completely different location. They have taken the water out of play which I think is a bit of a pity.

    • @sneakingboy
      @sneakingboy 4 месяца назад +1

      @@DiaryofaHighHandicapper That's interesting. It sounds like they have indeed changed it again. When I used play it, the first was the one you played - the par 5. The 10th was the one you played as the 10th, down the hill.
      What you mention as being a par 3 2nd hole - from what my buddy told me (who played it when it was changed, but I didn't) ... they put a new tee box in on the walk between 1 and 2 which played to that green as a par 3. You played it in your vid as the 7th, but I'd say .. from memory, the tee box is on other side of green to where you were playing from before?
      So it does sound as if they have changed it back. So far the course is as I remember it - will watch remaining holes in a bit when I have a bit more time.
      The following is from the main page: "Rathsallagh Golf Club reopened in June 2016 having been brought back to its previous splendour after 18 months of hard work and investment under new ownership. The magnificent course, which first opened in 1994, was designed by Peter McEvoy and the late Christy O’Connor Jnr. It sits in beautiful parkland near Dunlavin Co Wicklow with mature woodland lining all the fairways.
      Over the years it has challenged and delighted golfers of all abilities. In September 2017, the course was reconfigured so that play begins and ends in front of the clubhouse and a new Par 3 hole was built in the woods between the old 1st and 2nd holes bridging a small river. The old 10th hole (index 1) is now the opening hole - so the ‘wow factor’ is evident right from the very first shot. The re-routing occurs during the middle of the game and players will intertwine the ‘old’ back and front nines for a totally fresh experience."
      So that sounds a bit more like what it was when you played it first, and what my buddy mentioned had changed.

    I think that’s a really good round Jamie even if the 99 doesn’t look as good on the scoreboard. 37 points is very decent and you were flushing a fair few shots, your putting apart from one looked good and that means your strike on the face is getting better. Really enjoy the videos and can’t wait for the next lovely looking Irish course!
    Keep it going mate 😄👍👍

    I think your easy going attitude on not minding if your handicap improves or not is what will actually help improve your handicap. Too many people get stressed if they don’t play well and worry too much about score during the round and that’s what actually stops them scoring better.

    • @DiaryofaHighHandicapper
      @DiaryofaHighHandicapper  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks Ryan. I was one of those people you’ve described when I first started and I soon realised that it puts far too much pressure on yourself and makes enjoying golf virtually impassible. So now I just try and enjoy my round, good or bad, and let the scoring look after itself. I’ve seen loads of improvement in myself (even if others haven’t 😂) since I first started so that keeps me happy. Thanks for watching mate 👍🏻

      Thanks Tom. I’m pretty much in agreement with you. I was slightly disappointed with the score because I felt like I played really well. I also think it’s probably the best I’ve played on camera so probably expected a better score. But I lost a couple of the tee, and duffed a few wedges but stamp that out and it would have been an excellent score. Happy with my form though 👍🏻 Thanks for watching

    I play off 20 and I really relate to your game. Have watched all of your content and your swing tempo was way better in this video (except the last hole where you lost it). Your putting looks really very solid. You need to work on a bunker technique. You can get a lesson but I applied RUclips tips and have massively improved my bunker play to the point where I am not concerned going in them anymore and this helps confidence with approach shots.
    Like you I play too many really rank shots (often off the tee or from the middle of the fairway) which cost me but when on a roll I get comments around ‘how come you are playing off 20’. I always think wait a little while and you will find out; I never disappoint in that.
    Love your content and your attitude.
    Funny that I am playing tomorrow (its still winter here in Queensland) but warmer here than where you are in summer😂.

    • @DiaryofaHighHandicapper
      @DiaryofaHighHandicapper  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I really felt like my tempo was so much better this round. In fact, it felt like this was the slowest I've ever swung a golf club yet my distances had all increased. Although, when I watch the footage, it still looks quick, so maybe I need to go even slower 🤣 It just shows though, you don't need to swing hard to increase distance, it's all technique.
      I hear ya in terms of people questioning your handicap. Many times I'll start really well, and I'm just waiting for the first comment. And then sure enough someone in the group questions my integrity or how my handicap is so high and I pretty much say the same as you - "You'll see" 🤣 I actually think when people make the comment, it derails me. I just wish they would let me play good golf 🤣
      And I really do appreciate you following the channel, I always recognise your name when you leave a comment and they're always very positive so it's much appreciated 👍
      This summer has genuinely been the worst in my memory in Ireland so maybe it was a good summer to have my first kid so I wasn't missing THAT much golf 😎 Better not be like this next year however 🤣
      Enjoy the round tomorrow mate. Do us 20+ handicappers proud 🤣

      @@DiaryofaHighHandicapper I scored 90 for 18 the other day, 41 on front 9. Next round back to 100, then next round worse. The annoying thing is it’s not an average. I get more pars now but I get that 8 or worse a 9 that will pop up once or twice per round which just ruins the round. I don’t understand why some holes you forget how to play.

      I feel your pain mate. I shot my best ever score of 88, walked off the course thinking I had cracked the game, and literally six days later I shot 104. A 16 shot swing in less than a week.
