Great, comprehensive video. Consider using fine-pointed tweezers to remove supports. You can grab them right at the end where they touch the model and pluck them off. Then you have less cleanup to do with the nippers. You don't end up with as much resin on your gloves, etc. because you aren't handling the model with your hands as much.

Great "getting started" video. Some tips: Don't mess around with the supports before cleaning. Just clean them with the model in the ultrasonic cleaner. Then remove the supports and only after this start curing with UV. I use chop sticks to move the contaminated Model from the paper towel into the ultrasonic cleaner. Doing so doesn't contaminate my gloves and I can use them more often - avoiding too much trash. When removing the model from the build plate put one edge of the build plate on the working surface (paper towel). Doing this gives less stress to the holding screw and providing readjusting and releveling of the build plate.
The amount of gloves and fuss he did was actually counterproductive from what I could see, and he never showed us using the toothbrush, so I'm not really sure at what stage he uses it. He also seems incredibly wasteful, he already has IPO, so why buy another product - a spray which contains IPA? Then he uses some US product called green stuff, when again he could use 2 vats of IPA which I've seen everybody else use. Great tip ont the chopsticks.
I just got one of these today and I wanted to let everyone know that the masks are way better than the one you just showed. They are a thicker cloth and have a little filter on them. Way better than the maxipads that used to come with this like the one you (an to be fair, every other elegoo vid I've seen) showed in this vid. Thanks for your vids.
I just returned an Ender3 after many weeks of problems with bed adhesion. I tried everything and could not get a finished print without it coming loose. I just ordered this resin printer. I hope I have better luck with it. Thanks for posting.
I have seen many videos where people are holding the build plate while trying to remove the print. This applies pressure to the pivot point and may take it out of alignment. I always put the plate against the table so it doesn’t articulate while prying
Thanks for the walk-through. I've been doing FDM for a while, and resin is amazing - I'm just very cautious about getting into it with the risk of uncured resin. This helped point out things to be aware of and watch out for.
Let your prints soak in rubbing alcohol for 2-4 hours and the supports become super soft and you can pretty much break them right off the print without hurting the model, no snipping needed unless there are some decent supports on small tips of the print. I do it all the time and it made this portion of the proccess super quick, and wish wash in the alcohol as well after this, dry off and put in a curing chamber and your set!
Good vid, thanks for the tip on the pickle jar. I also switched to simple green instead of alcohol, cheaper, less fumes and cleans better. Yeah resin is a pain in the butt to deal with. I put all my paper towels and such in a clear container then let them sit out in the sun for a while before I toss them.

I like the black mechanics nitrile gloves because they are thiccer. You can get them at the auto parts store or Amazon. The blue ones I feel like I need to double glove on
Trying out the microfiber squares for the resin tank. How do you deal with the little fuzzies that it sheds? They generally have been getting into the corners and edges making them fun to deal with. They do clean and absorb great.
After I cut them, they do tend to get the fuzzies. Sometimes, I will run then through the wash once and dry them or at least rinse them with water and dry them.. That helps with the fuzz.
Great beginner tips, I should be getting mine in the next week or so, and cant wait to have some failed prints. One thing I had the most questions about was curing, and you didnt seem to touch on that in this video.
I've having a lot of trouble with some prints sticking to the plate. So far nothing I've printed with supports works. The support break 1/2 way through every time. Prints with a larger base work fine...but I need to be able to print smaller objects.

Yes sir! If you can find some Mean Green cleaner, that works great! You can usually get it at Walmart or Lowe's. To clean my build plate, I use Sprayway Glass cleaner. You can find it where the Windex glass cleaner is sold!
Any help would be appreciated. I have the Mars and I am having trouble printing a raspberry pi case. The case warps of the printbed, then when using supports to "cushion" the warpage the supports adhere beautifully with no warping but then the case warps off the supports. Printing with stock settings using Anycubic clear green, and tried elegoo black but with recommended settings for black resin.
I'm thinking of getting an Elegoo Mars for Christmas, but I have never tried 3d printing, so I'm looking around to see if it's the best option. I just want to have a 3d printer so that I can print mini-figures and paint them afterward so that I don't have to keep buying my figures internationally.

(1) How many times can you "reuse" the mean green cleaning solution before it get to contaminated? (2) What is the best way to dispose of the mean green cleaning solution once it become to contaminated with resin? And what about using Isotopic Alcohol, do the same rules apply? Thank you sir! The Mean Green and IPA will get really cloudy. Ideally, it's better to have two containers...One for a pre-rinse with a toothbrush to try to remove most of the resin and then the second container with clean MG or IPA. Of course, this second container will stay clean the longest. What I do after the container gets really cloudy is take it outside and let the sun cure the resin. It will turn into a sludge like material that is UV cured and can be tossed in the trash. Still use gloves because there may be some dissolved resin in there. I'll then wipe out the residue with a paper towel, place in a Walmart sack, tie it up and trash it. IPA will evaporate, MG will not. Thanks again for your question! I wish the best in success with your resin journey!

You can use resin and then cure it with UV or you can use Super Glue. I like Gorilla brand. Some resin is very strong and others can be brittle. I'm currently testing some super strong resin.. will post results soon! Thanks for your comment!

Yep.. I have not had any issues warming up the Mean Green. The thing I would do is that just the action of the ultrasonic pushes the heat up. I have had good luck at 30c as well. It really helps with support removal.
I'm a former environmental scientist who likes to make things. This process is a nightmare. I found water washable resin so I don't need IPA, but I also need to create a procedure to reduce the waste. I think it's possible to reduce the waste down to one pair of gloves and some paper towles, but I still need to safely get rid of the uncured resin wash liquid...

@@tilleul6917 I'm using a pair of nitril garden gloves with a pair of disposable nitril gloves over those. (The back of the garden gloves are fabric, thus the nitril disposable over the garden gloves. As soon as I'm done I can pull the garden gloves off with the disposable one still attatched, then throw them in my home made uv light chamber to cure the resin and make them safer to keep using. This way I can keep using the nitril disposable gloves a few times (like 3-5 prints) instead of throwing away 2-3 pairs EVERY PRINT. I have my printer in an enclosure with a vac system that takes it out the window. I also reuse my wet paper towels a few time s and leave then in a metal pie pan with other dirty cleaning stuff until the paper towels are too dirty to use. Finally I also evaporate my rinsing water (once it's so milkey I can't clean parts anymore) in the sun in a metal cooking tray. I'm still refining my procedure, but I'm making WAY less garbage now and it's all pretty clean. I break supports of on a metal cookie sheet where I can rest my dirty tools. By using a cookie sheet I don't waste paper towels on a table or something.
How do you print such large files chitubox keeps giving me this error message saying file is too large and only part of the file can be displayed but I know its within the printable size of the printer. Can I still print the file or will only half of it print. Thanks for your help I haven't been able to find the answer on the net.

Great video series. Just got me an Anycubic Photon S a few days ago. I've learned a lot from these videos. Still can't get the print to stick to the bed though, but to the FEP. Well, I managed to finish the test print on third try but not when I try to print another figure. oh well, I will figure it out. Anyway, what I would like to see an episode about is how everything around the printing works. The resins stuff scares me and I try to take every precation but I don't know when enough is enough? How well do you have to clean the tools that you use? The object you use? Does the resin get harmless when diluted in the isopropanol when cleaning? A drop on the bottle or somewhere, will it get safe to touch in time? Pretty much how to handle the resin , the printer, the tools and the environment before and after the print itself. There's glimpses here and there but not the full picture if you get what I mean. I, as a newbie, would really appreciate to learn about this. And if I've managed to miss a video covering this topic I appologise. I've still not watched them all.
Ulvsbane number one issue I had was with cold, try heating resin before use and ideally get a small heater for the printer enclosure too. Peopoly make them

hi friend! why are your removing the supports before you wash it with alcohol and before you cure it. I don't feel the clippers need to come anywhere near the freshprint. curious to find out why you do it in this order!
Excellent, very helpful video, my Elegoo M. arrived today. How strong is the stink of the gray resin?, some people say it's harder than other colors. Translucent smell is not bad, not printed yet. I assume formulations are different for different colors.
It's not too bad at all. Make sure and shake the resin well. The smell will dissipate once the cover is on. Elegoo is one of the least smelliest resins with Anycubic resin being very strong in odor!
My printer is going through the process, but I don’t have a finished product....some random soft chunks left over at the end, nothing printed or stuck to the lift.....any suggestions?

Like your video, lots of good tips to make it easier, less toxic and fun. Have a question my first print, the rook failed and was hard as hell to get off the build plate (broke it doing so). Are the exposures set in the software like Cura and set in the file you are printing or in the printer.
Could you clean/rinse off before you remove the supports? Then your nippers and gloves would be less sticky. I don't have a printer yet so I'm not sure.
Garret, I really have to leave a note to thank you for this and a few other videos of yours I've watched. You are the one who got me past my initial fear of printing anything beyond the rooks! My first non-rook print was the Death Trooper - also from your videos! Yours was the video that actually walked through a very specific step-by-step tutorial on ChituBox settings, etc. Without that, I'd still be staring at my beautiful 3D printer and hoping I could get something going with it! Now I've printed about a dozen jobs with great success (yes, still a noob here!). Question on cleaning solutions: how do you know when to "toss out" your Mean Green and replace? I do not have an ultrasonic cleaner (yet), and I've been rinsing in two batches of IPA (an initial "dirty" batch and then on to a "clean" batch of IPA). Seems to be doing well, but recently I've been getting a bit of white residue, so I think my IPA is too dirty. Mean Green is much cheaper, so I may switch - or do a combination of the two. I'd like to hear your opinion, which I value. THANKS again!!!
Thanks so much! I'm glad I could help! Great question too! Resin cleaning solution varies with how much you should change out. A lot depends on the model and the resin, but in general, I'll recycle my cleaning solution after about 20 prints or so.. With the IPA, I will take outside in the sun and let the cured resin settle and precipitate to the bottom of the container. Sometimes, you can pour off the top layer and reuse, but most of the time with IPA, I'll just let it evaporate and toss the cured gelatinous ball of resin in the trash. Mean Green, another alternative will get you around 20 cleanings or so as well. I'll dispose of the same way as the IPA. The key to getting rid of the white spots is use an old toothbrush or a new one from the Dollar Store.. If you heat the solution.. Mean Green slightly, this helps as well. I'll use two containers.. one for the initial swish and swirl and the other for the final rinse. Send me a PM if you have other questions. I'll be glad to assist.
You don't need it. This guy uses way to much stuff. Most people clean the model in IPA. This guy cleans in IPA, then buys a separate spray (also containing IPA) to clean the film. Then he buys a 2 separate blocks of green stuff which he pre-cleans and then more green stuff for his sonic cleaner. If IPA is good enough to clean the very sensitive film then by definition he does not need to waste extra money and mess on "green stuff". He also wastes multiple gloves because he removes supports before rinsing (why?) Other people rinse first to get most of the residual resin film off first. Also you can use chopsticks to move the model. This guy is very wasteful.

the spatula - a "rubber" kitchen cake mix spatula will probbaly work pretty well for squeegeeing the resin (they have a nice handle and are CHEAP)

How do you dispose of your waste when you are finished with your cleanup?
Thought you might want to know that the vendor at your link to buy the printer is listing the base Mars at twice MSRP. Not sure if you want to continue to support that.

Yep.. I have not had any issues warming up the Mean Green. The thing I would do is that just the action of the ultrasonic pushes the heat up. I have had good luck at 30c as well. It really helps with support removal.
Is resin printings too brittle for mechanical structures compared to FDL printing using PLA filiment or is it the same?
There are some resins that are tougher than your standard resins. Siraya Tech Tenacious is a great product.
Hey do I have to have a digital sonic cleaner? Or can I just use iPA?
I'm so close to pulling the trigger but jeez, it seems like a lot of work, mess and fuss to print the model and safely clean it!
I'm a former environmental scientist who likes to make things. This process is a nightmare. I found water washable resin so I don't need IPA, but I also need to create a procedure to reduce the waste. I think it's possible to reduce the waste down to one pair of gloves and some paper towles, but I still need to safely get rid of the uncured resin wash liquid...
@@evilparadigm I have bought this 3d printer and It's still in the box because I still didn't have found how I will manage to seal the waste to send them away to my city waste disposal area (the uncured epoxy resin residue) My workshop got an air extractor and I will use the printer with a good gaz and particle mask and non latex gloves but still, i'm afraid to use it.
@@tilleul6917 I'm using a pair of nitril garden gloves with a pair of disposable nitril gloves over those. (The back of the garden gloves are fabric, thus the nitril disposable over the garden gloves.
As soon as I'm done I can pull the garden gloves off with the disposable one still attatched, then throw them in my home made uv light chamber to cure the resin and make them safer to keep using.
This way I can keep using the nitril disposable gloves a few times (like 3-5 prints) instead of throwing away 2-3 pairs EVERY PRINT.
I have my printer in an enclosure with a vac system that takes it out the window. I also reuse my wet paper towels a few time s and leave then in a metal pie pan with other dirty cleaning stuff until the paper towels are too dirty to use.
Finally I also evaporate my rinsing water (once it's so milkey I can't clean parts anymore) in the sun in a metal cooking tray.
I'm still refining my procedure, but I'm making WAY less garbage now and it's all pretty clean. I break supports of on a metal cookie sheet where I can rest my dirty tools. By using a cookie sheet I don't waste paper towels on a table or something.

how long does it last in the vat ? between use ?- or do you have to strain them every time ?
How do you print such large files chitubox keeps giving me this error message saying file is too large and only part of the file can be displayed but I know its within the printable size of the printer. Can I still print the file or will only half of it print.

It's a bug in Chitubox. I have gotten that error before and even though it only shows half the model, it should print full size.

Great video series. Just got me an Anycubic Photon S a few days ago. I've learned a lot from these videos. Still can't get the print to stick to the bed though, but to the FEP. Well, I managed to finish the test print on third try but not when I try to print another figure. oh well, I will figure it out.
Anyway, what I would like to see an episode about is how everything around the printing works. The resins stuff scares me and I try to take every precation but I don't know when enough is enough? How well do you have to clean the tools that you use? The object you use? Does the resin get harmless when diluted in the isopropanol when cleaning? A drop on the bottle or somewhere, will it get safe to touch in time? Pretty much how to handle the resin , the printer, the tools and the environment before and after the print itself. There's glimpses here and there but not the full picture if you get what I mean.
I, as a newbie, would really appreciate to learn about this. And if I've managed to miss a video covering this topic I appologise. I've still not watched them all.
Ulvsbane number one issue I had was with cold, try heating resin before use and ideally get a small heater for the printer enclosure too. Peopoly make them

hi friend! why are your removing the supports before you wash it with alcohol and before you cure it. I don't feel the clippers need to come anywhere near the freshprint. curious to find out why you do it in this order!
Excellent, very helpful video, my Elegoo M. arrived today. How strong is the stink of the gray resin?, some people say it's harder than other colors. Translucent smell is not bad, not printed yet. I assume formulations are different for different colors.
It's not too bad at all. Make sure and shake the resin well. The smell will dissipate once the cover is on. Elegoo is one of the least smelliest resins with Anycubic resin being very strong in odor!
My printer is going through the process, but I don’t have a finished product....some random soft chunks left over at the end, nothing printed or stuck to the lift.....any suggestions?

Like your video, lots of good tips to make it easier, less toxic and fun. Have a question my first print, the rook failed and was hard as hell to get off the build plate (broke it doing so). Are the exposures set in the software like Cura and set in the file you are printing or in the printer.
Yes. The exposures are under Settings in the Chitubox software
Wouldn't it be easier to clean the figure with the supports first and then cut them off? That way you don't get your tools dirty?

Could you clean/rinse off before you remove the supports? Then your nippers and gloves would be less sticky. I don't have a printer yet so I'm not sure.

Garret, I really have to leave a note to thank you for this and a few other videos of yours I've watched. You are the one who got me past my initial fear of printing anything beyond the rooks! My first non-rook print was the Death Trooper - also from your videos! Yours was the video that actually walked through a very specific step-by-step tutorial on ChituBox settings, etc. Without that, I'd still be staring at my beautiful 3D printer and hoping I could get something going with it! Now I've printed about a dozen jobs with great success (yes, still a noob here!). Question on cleaning solutions: how do you know when to "toss out" your Mean Green and replace? I do not have an ultrasonic cleaner (yet), and I've been rinsing in two batches of IPA (an initial "dirty" batch and then on to a "clean" batch of IPA). Seems to be doing well, but recently I've been getting a bit of white residue, so I think my IPA is too dirty. Mean Green is much cheaper, so I may switch - or do a combination of the two. I'd like to hear your opinion, which I value. THANKS again!!!
Thanks so much! I'm glad I could help! Great question too! Resin cleaning solution varies with how much you should change out. A lot depends on the model and the resin, but in general, I'll recycle my cleaning solution after about 20 prints or so.. With the IPA, I will take outside in the sun and let the cured resin settle and precipitate to the bottom of the container. Sometimes, you can pour off the top layer and reuse, but most of the time with IPA, I'll just let it evaporate and toss the cured gelatinous ball of resin in the trash. Mean Green, another alternative will get you around 20 cleanings or so as well. I'll dispose of the same way as the IPA. The key to getting rid of the white spots is use an old toothbrush or a new one from the Dollar Store.. If you heat the solution.. Mean Green slightly, this helps as well. I'll use two containers.. one for the initial swish and swirl and the other for the final rinse. Send me a PM if you have other questions. I'll be glad to assist.

Great video, just a shame we can’t get simple green at a reasonable price in uk.
You don't need it. This guy uses way to much stuff. Most people clean the model in IPA. This guy cleans in IPA, then buys a separate spray (also containing IPA) to clean the film. Then he buys a 2 separate blocks of green stuff which he pre-cleans and then more green stuff for his sonic cleaner. If IPA is good enough to clean the very sensitive film then by definition he does not need to waste extra money and mess on "green stuff". He also wastes multiple gloves because he removes supports before rinsing (why?) Other people rinse first to get most of the residual resin film off first. Also you can use chopsticks to move the model. This guy is very wasteful.
