1:41 I try not to get discouraged when it comes to awkward silence but I try to come up with random things to keep it moving. One of the worst things I did in the past and currently up to now is talking soo much to a couple or few people. When no one responds afterwards I turn off my mic afterwards. I look back at my VODS to watch to see the long, gap silence, I feel so bad and awkward. Thank you for the advice video and it helps!
Thanks for the tips Shino! Honestly I'm always worried when I see videos with titles like this that there will be a bunch of rather gatekeep-y tips or things that are truly just one's personal opinion, but I was pleasantly surprised that everything you had to offer was super constructive. And as you said it's not enough to just point out mistakes if you're not going to mention solutions. Thanks for the vid, I hit subscribe!!
I find that the one time where it’s acceptable to have long moments of silence is on art streams. It’s a creative process and it can be a little difficult to keep talking as you draw. Plus artists often have background music so it’s okay.
I sometimes wear big eye makeup, which I found messes with some face capture software. It would either think my eyes are still open, this wouldn't blink, or I'd wind up looking like I was going to sneeze. Id get one eye that looked sneezy and the other which didn't blink at all!
Credit to you, not everyone can point out their own flaws and teach others how to avoid them. Unreadable on-screen chat is one of my biggest pet peeves as a viewer. Good tips!
I started Vtubing pretty recently. I'm so guilty of the discord related ones. I would use Push-to-Talk more but it's kinda hard to use it for some games, like if the keybind you have set for it conflicts with another hotkey in the game. If it were possible, I wish there was an easy way to just switch between Voice Activity and Push-to-Talk without having to go through the settings.
great video !! im a highschool senior and i would like to graduate before getting into vtube stuff but i am doing my research and working on my concept so this is very helpful. currently i practice by talking to my friends while i play videogames as if im streaming, which sounds kinda weird but im a total chatterbox and a few of my close friends will literally like facetime me just to listen to me rant while they do homework like its a podcast 💀. so now instead i ramble on while playing animal crossing or genshin, which really does seem helpful in eliminating the random silence. its like helping me get into this mode where i can say all my thoughts out loud and basically narrate everything/have a convo with myself/all while still being entertaining.
Love all the tips and most can really be applied to any type of streamer. Personally, I have auto blink on because even with my glasses off, VSeeFace doesn't really track my eyes that well. It still works in the end anyways as I see myself nearly always blinking the same time as the model.
Didn't learn a lot BUT I was unaware of autoblink on models. I cannot just take my glasses off(practically blind) so I've avoided the vtuber thing on my channel. You have given me renewed enthusiasm though.
This is my second time getting introduced to the whole VTuber world, and I never have considered being a VTuber. But I still watched the whole video and enjoyed it and agreed with everything😂😂
great topics you tackled here. It was easy to understand what you were demonstrating, specially with the practical examples. I would love to see another episode which goes into more details on how to fill up the silence. there is so much that can be said about this topic
Not gonna lie - aside from the lazy eye mistake, this video is also good for regular non-VTuber streamers And I already knew most of the things already, but I still liked the video, thank you
The one thing I have NEVER thought about was the push to talk tip! It’s something that makes so much sense and I’m so grateful to other streamers for doing looking back, but it’s 100% a backstage thing that I had never noticed otherwise. Incredible! And SO important thank you!
Yeah, every collab I've been a part of it's just common courtesy that everyone goes on Deafen and leaves a message to let the others know when each person is ready, so we just undeafen one by one. Push to talk, or toggle mute, is still useful though as a better example of why not to do pure voice activity during a collab is talking to your chat. Using PTT or Toggle, you're able to still interact with your chat without having the rest of the people in the collab and their viewers hear it.
if u want to wink with bad face tracking like I have, Just make an emote for it. expressions are in most 3D & even some 2D programs or can be part of the model & if u know how to edit them you can set one up as winking & then never need the cam to see that view of your face to use it. Yes u need to get it to track your eye to make the expression but after it is set u can wink by hitting W on the keyboard or what ever u set it to. u just loos out on one expression slot.
The push-to-talk option works really well for the most part, though if you're doing remote play through Steam, holding down the button really messes up the input and gameplay, so in that case, it's easier just to go without it. My friends and I combat this by having just one person introduce everyone, then proceed with the game.
These are excellent advices and the best part is she had gathered these from her own vods ....with a touch of comedy in it 😁😁 ...the comment from Alimbaguy at 2:13 still cracks me up 🤣🤣 he did try to break the silence 😆. Aside from the joke nicely done Shino san 👍👍
That kills me when someone asks me how my day was I go into it and by going into it you give people a chance to keep asking questions and make statements you can have an input in it’s easy peasy. don’t just say yeah it was ok, say dude it’s been good as far and now I can just chill out and play games and talk to you guys.
great video as a starting out streamer it was interesting to see Im not the only one that cant get things right I really enjoy watching for video and learned alot from it thank you for taking the time to create tis video and sharing
My first few streams had volume problems. You would barely be able to hear me over the game sometimes, or vice versa, but because I didn't have many people in my chat to tell me, they often went unnoticed for most of the stream.
Most of these were not vtuber specific, but good advice and appreciate that the examples were of yourself. Some vtubers aren't streamers though, like myself. X3 For the awkward silence, I guess it's covered under narration but I'd add that one thing to do is read what you're responding to.
Thx, I decided to livestream a few weeks ago and it went terrible (crappy wifi, audio and I had anxiety so i was hardly speaking) when i'm in a better situation lifestyle wise I'mma try again
I have another fix for the last one choose one channel and share the link to the channel you chose to the respective audience make sure they know the time boom. Still want the other channel to get views still choose one person's set up and then multi stream that way both channels have one single source.
I feel like these are no problem for me. My problem would how 'how do I actually become a vtuber in the first place?'. One person told me I'd need an iphone or ipad, I do not have such things, and do not know if there are alternatives, or if one of those two are 100% required. The model shouldn't be a problem. I have a friend that likes making VRChat models on Blender. It's just...the rest I don't know how to do or get started with. Your model looks like one of the better ones I've seen since I began my search.
I would suggest watching Kira Omori's videos on 2d modelling and search "3d VS 2d vtuber programs" and beginner friendly vtubing rigging+tracking tutorials on youtube! You do NOT need an iPhone or iPad as long as u have a webcam and a computer :)
Soooo I am so NOT the person to start Vtubing...but I think this idea would be very very new, and knowing me, would blow up (as in, when I show my mug, channel goes splat. I dont show my mug, I do good! Either way, the character and lore I have in mine is primo...) My biggest issue is OBS and Windows 7. Not a good fit, and performance is a bit of an issue. THe other things, I think I can manage. Ive been using VRoid for years now for my channel mascot, and its been great!
for the discord one my brother(hes not a streamer but he uses it when im talking to him when hes in call with someone) create a key bind(idk the name- im srry i dont speak english) in you keyboard(or mouse if yours have that extra buttons) to mute and desativate the audio is easyer(for me-)
I think the last one isn't such a big thing I already watched some vtubers and collabs and it doesn't feel like, that they mute, if they say hello to a new follower/subber or similiar Maybe it was, both streamers know each other and so both community know each other too, idk about it
Hmm could the tracking be setup differently to compensate? Or maybe that could be worked into the design so it doesn't have to track that eye (like an eyepatch, or hair covering the eye?)
LMAO. In that first clip the audio misbalancing makes the clip SO much funnier.
yo that solitaire stream was hype af, i feel bad for the peeps who missed out
the most competitive fast paced strategy game on the market
We sometimes mistakes but the longer awkward silence which means makes you nervous I love u 1:47

aw, thanks for the comment and for subscribing! i'm glad to hear you found the video constructive c:
dude 3 seconds in and i’m already in love with your voice and model

That's some really good advice to not just vTubers, but streamers in general

3:28 The most intense match of solitaire I have ever seen

“yea why not”

gets me every time-
1:43 extremely helpful because my social awkwardness is a colossal problem for me. Thank you so much for sharing this!💖

Hi! Try setting up Push to Mute instead 😁

honestly, all streamers could benefit from this video and not just vtubers. solid points shino

im considering trying to v tube soon. my first thinking is making sure I have a good enough computer but I like these tips.
This was very helpful! Thanks!
Thank you for the tips!
This was surprisingly informative. I'm not a streamer but I make videos and a lot of these could apply. Lol I appreciate it. New Sub. :)
Glad you enjoyed!

glad to hear it! :D
The awkward silence is actually funny in clip form 😆
I love the prprlive eye sync feature! If u close only once eye u get this stare effect that’s really funny
Loved the examples lol
Thx, I decided to livestream a few weeks ago and it went terrible (crappy wifi, audio and I had anxiety so i was hardly speaking) when i'm in a better situation lifestyle wise I'mma try again
Omg the push to talk... the amount of times I have to mute discord so I can think and talk to chat
Me, not a Vtuber: "Interesting. I find this informative."
Great video! Liked and subscribed!
This was very helpful thank you!
This was very helpful, thank you for making this vid!
i can't wait to get my new device so i start my career as a vtuber that vid was helpful to consider tysm shino!
Literally screaming from some of the examples because they're so GOOD at being BAD. I love it.
i see Shio vid, i click. peepoClap
These tips are so good it almost hurt me on a spiritual level qAq, also your voice felt like someone rubbing honey on my ears
*long awkward silences*
Literally me 🖐️😭
I have another fix for the last one choose one channel and share the link to the channel you chose to the respective audience make sure they know the time boom. you're very welcome! :)

Yeah, practice makes perfect.
I usually talk to myself all the time, so the narration stuff is easy to me
Thanks for the tips!! :D
I can't believe Cas had a stream and we never knew about it
Soooo I am so NOT the person to start Vtubing...but I think this idea would be very very new, and knowing me, would blow up (as in, when I show my mug, channel goes splat. I dont show my mug, I do good! Either way, the character and lore I have in mine is primo...)

I see so much famous vtubers still get the audio balancing wrong lmaoo
Underated
the lazy eye part i got glasses i can put on my model.
for the discord one my brother(hes not a streamer but he uses it when im talking to him when hes in call with someone) create a key bind(idk the name- im srry i dont speak english) in you keyboard(or mouse if yours have that extra buttons) to mute and desativate the audio
is easyer(for me-)
End of #2 This works unless your issue is you’re muted.
I think the last one isn't such a big thing
I already watched some vtubers and collabs and it doesn't feel like, that they mute, if they say hello to a new follower/subber or similiar
Maybe it was, both streamers know each other and so both community know each other too, idk about it
toggle mute is way better to use then push to talk
I'll never understand vtubers who have a chat overlay only for it to be blocked by their model 😭
Thank you so much for this video 💓💓
No problem 😊
Thank you so much!
I love your voice btw hahaha (im sorry Im weird)
Does awkward silence count if you stopped talking due to something happening ingame like a really big fight?
I love your vtuber💕 thank you for the tips💖💖💖💖
2:10 made me laugh
Shino=epic
Great Content !!
glorious Shino
5:12 I thought they said get a better face-
Video is unavailable on the end...
OMG the #4 point about derpy eyes is my pet peeve so hard. I really don't like it when Vtubers eyes twich like that!
This help a ton tnx but the last one can't help me because i don't have friends 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
What if you really do have a lazy eye? The face recognition will be a disaster for me.
Hmm could the tracking be setup differently to compensate? Or maybe that could be worked into the design so it doesn't have to track that eye (like an eyepatch, or hair covering the eye?)
I've had a lot of problems with my audio. This was good advice thank you.
Ah... um see... I actually have a lazy eye so I can't fix that.
I'm not fluence so I might repeat whatever I was saying because I can't remember the next word
are you saying no one knows who BlockPig420 is except for me?
♥️
i need to fix my lazy eye.....:(
Thx for the tips..XD
Most these don't relate to Vtubers; these are more like general guidelines for every streamer lol
Hi
Lmaoo
What on earth is a banana man?
Everybody knows BananaMan.
Why is there so many vtubers now
Smacking lips…
how to be a Vtuber if ur low budget…
Use vroid and vsee face
Use Vroid or start w being a pngtuber!
Use reality
you blink a lot
