So I thought I'd have a crack at explaining the multiple timelines that is the Fox X-Men franchise, I thought this was a decent video until I realised there's no point to it all as Marvel Studios now own the X-Men but oh well, let me know what you think, is Deadpool already in the MCU? is Logan set in timeline 2? lets disuss
So SUPER FRAME how do you feel about Jonathan Hickman X men relaunch that's currently going on at marvel right now
Are you counting Wolverine showing up in Deadpool because Wade Wilson had that photo of Hugh Jackman stapled to his face at the end? Why didn't you count Deadpool 2? Remember during the end credits gag when Deadpool was going back in time and he went back to X-Men Origins Wolverine and killed Origins Deadpool and he Hugh Jackman did a cameo? Wouldn't that mean Wolverine was in 11 out of the 12 X-Men films?
In my opinion, Logan does not occur in the same universe as Days of Future Past, or in other words, the new timeline, because not even the Proffesor was strong enough to kill the Phoenix, and in a deleted scene of the Logan movie, Charles explains that Logan killed her, therefore is a different timeline, or even universe, where the events of The Last Stand did happen.
It takes a brave soul to explain the X-Men film timeline but honestly though I think you did done a brilliant job in doing that which made sense.
I think Deadpool said it best “the timeline is so confusing.”
Great. Now I'm even more confused. LOL!
Ok I’ll explain it Wolverine is the oldest , so Wolverine origins in the middle of the movie entire plot of x men first class happens , somewhere in the middle of (Wolverine origins ) , original x men trilogy , The Wolverine , days of future past , apocalypse , dark Phoenix , then Logan, however there are inconsistencies like in first scene in the third movie of the trilogy Charles can walk and use his powers . Hank built the machine but in first x men movie it says Charles and Erik built it .
Me too man, me too
Same I’m super confused
You can be disillusioned by the person and share my video out when it comes to it I will do a Fishel timeline regarding on the continuity and we should go
Me too but oh well 😭
Basically every other movie has to take place in its own alternate timeline for it to work at all.
My head canon timeline and generally how I rewatch the series goes like:
X-Men: First Class
X-Men
X-Men 2
A recap of X-Men 3 on RUclips
The Wolverine
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Deadpool
Logan
Deadpool 2
This leaves out all the bad movies and keeps the continuity intact for the most part.
Arqum F I would treat X-men First Class as separate because it was the first movie to disrupt the continuity. While Origins isn’t good, it still fit within the continuity.
Arqum F days of future past disruptsthe continuity, your list doesn’t make sense!
Arqum F X-men 3 is my second favorite one. Why does everyone hate it
MrSmurf459 I said for the most part. Yes there are minor timeline inconsistencies in that film but not nearly as much as if you include the rest of the movies. Also it’s a legitimately great X-Men movie imo so I’m including it.
Mike bibby 666 Yeah they do but Deadpool is largely a movie series where continuity doesn’t matter as Deadpool himself is a character who knows he’s in a movie and he often talks about the continuity errors too. It’s all about whatever serves the joke best and, considering how much he references Logan’s death, I felt it was a good place to put that film.
All Dark Phoenix had to do is find a away to connect it to the movies of the early 2000's and connect it to the DOFP epilogue. Nope...
It can't connect to the early 2000's movies because Days of Future Past erased those films out of existence. Think about it, at this point everyone in the X-men already knows Wolverine before he's supposed to meet them in 2000. Nightcrawler is already with the team before X2 could happen and both Cyclops and Jean Grey survived past X3 since they are in the DOFP epliogue.
Also, with Mystique dead, she can't rejoin Magneto's brotherhood again nor can she abduct or impersonate Senator Kelly. Plus, the world already accepts mutants which will rob Magneto of his motivation to build a mutation machine. Lastly, the fact that Beast is the one that built cerebro instead of Magneto means that Stryker won't know how to build his own cerebro thus canceling out his plan to use a brainwashed Xavier to kill the mutant race.
@@loudboy317 I see your points. I just felt it would have been a better wrap up of the character's stories if they tried to link up, in their youthful selves, towards the direction of the DOFP epilogue. For example, why is Professor X teaching in the future when in the 90's he left the school and put Beast in charge? When did Jean Grey return back to earth? I wanted an ending with closure rather than have it end with even more questions never to be answered.
@@Dohsoda
I imagine that the scene in X3 where Cyclops and Jean reunite still happened... only it doesn't end with her killing him this time. Her return is what influenced Xavier to come back to the school.
Dark Phoenix was originally going to be split into 2 parts and it would've been had the Disney-FOX merger not happened.
@@loudboy317 actually some events similar to those early 2000’s movies did happen including the event at Statue of Liberty or some events similar from other movies.
Yeah the x-men timeline was a mess
I thought time travel was confusing but oh my God the X-Men franchise totally takes the cake with that
@@dcmarvelcomicfans9458 indeed
It really makes you appreciate how well-crafted the MCU's continuity is when you compare it to the mess that is the Fox X-Men timeline
I think that X-Men dark phoenix takes place in a separate third timeline, because Jean is alive at the end of days of future past but died in the dark phoenix. You mentioned something similar but still put the dark phoenix in timeline 2 at 13:17. Also, another inconsistency that first class creates is that in that movie Hank created cerebro but in X1 professor says that he and magnito created it.
She didn't die at the end of Dark Phoenix tho.
She survived those events, and maybe Charles Xavier made Wolverine believe that Magneto helped him in order to protect his old friend
There are 4 timelines in X-men
@@alpha6games751 what makes you think that
@@johnmichaelfidler8499 1st timeline: The original trilogy. 2nd timeline was when they tried to reboot and they didn’t know what was going on with the franchise...enter Origins that is similar but different in many ways. Even some back stories. I believe origins still culminates later in some sort of Phoenix saga since it is inevitable and then The wolverine and Logan are part of that timeline trilogy. We know the wolverine and Logan are the same timeline because of a few details. 3rd timeline: enter first class attempting a reboot/prequel sort of thing. This is clearly not the original timeline because it doesn’t line up with a bunch of details however in Days of future past the original characters are like a nod rather then that timeline. Professor x is dead and even if you account for the after credits scene with his consciousness it wouldn’t be his body. Now in the events of future past they erase the future of that third timeline and creat the new 4th timeline that continues with dark Phoenix etc which is the current timeline or universe unless the mcu decides to do something different after the acquisition. It’s like each time they tried to reboot or figure it out they just created a new timeline that’s similar but not the same.
It was going so well when days of future past finished then they fucked it up at the end of dark Phoenix, there’s also still no explanation for the mystique/Stryker thing at the end of days of future past but
it’s not that confusing people.
Original Timeline:
X-Men First Class (1962)
X-Men Origins (1973-1979)
X-Men (2002)
X2 (2003)
X-Men Last Stand (2006)
Wolverine (2013)
Days Of Future Past (2023)
New timeline:
No films after 1973 will happen in this timeline or at least not in the way it did in the OT
X-Men First Class (1962)
X-Men Origins (just the beginning and the war stuff)
Days Of Future past (1973)
Apocalypse (1983)
Dark Phoenix (1993)
Deadpool (2016)
Deadpool 2 (2018)
(the x-men scene is canon as mystique and jean are missing hinting at their fate in dark Phoenix. You just have to believe that they did not age at all...
Logan (2029)
And we just have to wait for New mutants placement.
except Charles was shot in First Class, then was walking in Origins and Last Stand (flashback) while using his powers. Also doesn't explain the change between Sabretooths. And putting the Deadpool movies in the second timeline really conflicts things considering Deadpool knew back in 2018 how and when Logan would die in 2029. He also creates his own different timeline at the end when he goes back and saves Vanessa.
So should we watch the original timeline or new timeline?
NHan dude about that when Charles was shot in the first class, then wolverine changes the timeline and now we have a second timeline where Charles is still on the wheelchair whereas the xmen origins Wolverine and last stand is in the first timeline
NHan Deadpool 2 was just sort of roasting Logan for that nothing else
@@rahulmeranaam First Class exists in both timelines. Charles was shot in first class. So in Origins and the flashback in Last Stand, both of which take place AFTER first Class, Charles should be in a wheelchair. It has nothing to do with changing the timeline.
Even as a kid the inconsistencies made it really hard for me to get invested in these movies and in the X-men mythos in general. Plus i grew up on the Mcu so I was spoiled with a crap ton of continuity. It wasn’t until I recently gave in an watch X-men the animated series that I finally understood these characters why people see them as synonymous with marvel
My X-Men Timeline
The Original Timeline:
- X-Men: First Class (1960s)
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine (1978)
- X-Men (2000)
- X2 (2003)
- X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
- The Wolverine (2013)
- X-Men: Days of Future Past (2023)
The New Timeline:
- X-Men: First Class (1960s)
- X-Men: Days of Future Past (1973)
- X-Men: Apocalypses
- Dark Phoenix (1990s)
- Deadpool (2016)
- Deadpool 2 (2018)
- X-Men: Days of Future Past (New 2023)
- Logan (2029)
Perfect
Jean always had he phoenix force, she just had to unleash it. And in the dark phoenix she became (dark) phoenix because of the power she consumed in space. Jean always had it in her. She just had to learn to control it.
Thank you for fixing this timeline somehow
Jean dies like 3 or 4 times throughout these movies. Wow
Let’s just delete every X-Men movie and start over... How about that??
I'm sure that is already in the works... :-D
That’s pretty much what Disney is doing.
*cough MCU cough*
LobLob Pie what are u smoking
People say: "Let's forget the FOX-Men saga and start over with the MCU" Forget it? Nope. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine can't be forgotten, he is a legend. Neither Patrick Stewart as Xavier and also McAvoy, same with McKellen/Fassbender. Also a classic like X-Men, a benchmark like X2, a terrific film like DOFP or a mesterpiece like Logan can't be forgotten. The FOX-Men saga ended with a lot of letdowns wthin, but also with jewelry, the franchise will be always remembered. Not in vain the X-Men are currently the sixth more financially successful franchise.
Dark Phoenix is not canon. Considering Deadpool is, that is kind of crazy.
I'm so happy for this video! I'm still confused af but I'm glad I'm not alone I thought I was missing something 😅
great video!
Best explanation
Its self explanatory really, basically X men: days of future past is when another timeline was birthed so ot would look like this:
Timeline 1: XOrigins-X1-X2-X3-XWolverine-Days of future past-Logan.
Timeline 2: X1st class-Days of future past-Apacolypse-dark Phoenix.
The meeting point between the two timelines is Dark Pheonix....
SIMPLE!!!
How is Jean in the end of Days of Future Past if she dies in Dark Phoenix
That’s why there’s a 3rd timeline
Let's consider prof x is old thats why he forgot his age when he met erik and his escape goat is "when i was 17"
i used to love these films but the lack of consistency is such a pain now
i would love if somehow one day they fix it so even the first timeline makes sense and doesn't contradict itself but still ends the same way, with the sentinels and logan going back in time
then the second timeline without the inconsistencies and we're all good
You're absolutely right about having to ignore many of the X-Men movies for continuity to make sense. Taking that as a given, this is the way I recommend watching the series:
1. X-Men
2. First Class
3. X2
4. Days of of Future Past (overlook the one flashback to X3. Either way, Jean's sitch is the same.)
5. Logan
Deadpool's movies can fit in anywhere between #3 and #5
Woww I'm surprised u were even able to connect all of this this is like the most confusing timeline ever next to Terminator and I felt like The X-Men films should of ended with just Logan as it's final conclusion (But we still get Deadpool 2) instead of it all being ruined by Dark Phoenix
He doesn’t connect them at all. It’s actually terrible.
I love your video.
Honestly they should have ended it with days of future past then logan. Done. Perfect endings
This aught to be a good one
Xmen series is definitely a fucking mess!
There’s so many movies is hard to me to put them together.
But one thing that really struck me was that Wolverine experiences all of them, he lived and experience the entire timeline 1 and when his conscious was sent back to rewrite history, he lived and experience timelines 2.
While part of timeline 1 disappeared at that point, he still lived and experience it.
He was born around 1845 lives the entire century of the 1900s and then goes back in time in the 2000s at this point he already lived over 150 years.
Goes back to 1973 and lives another 56 years in timeline 2 to the year 2029 where he dies in the movie Logan.
He experience over 200 years of life. No other character in any other movie/comic has been through so many years in 2 different timelines.
Only one that kinda compares is Captain America
Professor X and Magneto look the same for 40 years then suddenly age 50 years.
For me it ends really good. The point was to return to year 2000. The original movie. And that was it.
Ok, so half the movies don’t matter, got it. Thanks FOX
4:27
Wolverine moving from Normandy to Hiroshima in one year is easy to explain. There's
Option A.) The possibility that his tour of duty expired in 44 and he reenlisted afterwards, which meant he was reassigned to Japan.
Option B.) The possibility that after D Day, he was recruited to a black ops organization like the O.S.S. (or even Nick Fury's Howling Commandos) which would send him on missions in all fronts of the war, including Japan.
And finally there's option C.) X Men origins isn't canon.
You’re right that we have to eliminate half of the movies for things to make sense. In that case, this is my recommended X-Men playlist:
1. X-Men
2. First Class
3. X2
4. DoFP (Continuity works if you overlook the one quick flashback to X3)
5. Logan
You can insert Deadpool’s movies anywhere after X2
I don’t think Liberty Island happened in the new timeline. Xavier has Logan’s memories of the old timeline in his mind because they were shared with him in Days of Future’s Past. Which is why only Logan and Xavier know about the events of the first timeline and why Xavier says “welcome back” to Logan in the way that he does, while everyone else is confused as to why he is confused. So basically in his old age with his damaged mind, he’s mixing events of the timelines in his memories.
I think some similar event Statue of Liberty still happened in the new timeline as Logan is in.
Technically Logan in timeline two was actually timeline one Logan after 2023. So no matter which timeline he's from its the same logan that we've watched
Thank you

Caliban was in both Apocalypse and Logan, because, according to filmmakers, neither director knew the other was using him. HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT A CHARACTER IS APPEARING IN TWO DIFFERENT MOVIES?!?!?!?
Each of the prequel movies create a new timeline
Super frame: “That and Spider-Man were the one two punch that launched the superhero genre.”
Me: “Correction, that and Spider-Man and Blade were the one three punch that launched the superhero genre.”
In the comics, Moira was apparently a mutant. Her power is to live different lives or something like that. Search it up, it’s cool.
Love ur pfp
Id always like to think that Logan’s healing factor operating at a crawl eventually brought him back and he had to crawl out of the grave
Thanks
6:59 😍😍
Am I the only one who couldn't help laugh at the trask side by side comparison??lol
Y’all look at Magnito at 3:48. Just look at how he sticks that hip out tho.🤦♂️😭😂
My headcanon: Erik still distraught over the loss of Mystique found another shapeshifter to replace her. Look-a-Like has a personality disorder where she starts to believe she is the person that she imitates. Her disorder also functions as a psionic mutant ability that extends to include others in her vicinity.
"Mystique" would have thought to have been at pivotal events that played out in a similar fashion to timeline 1.
Timeline for me;
First Class (can be swapped with orgins by preference)
Orgins
X1
X2
X3
Wolverine (this movies end breaks canon)
Days of Future Past
Apocalypse (Jean having the Phoniex Force breaks canon)
Dark Phoenix (this movie breaks canon)
Deadpool (can also be changed with Dark Phoniex, but then again I don’t really see these movies as cannon)
The New Mutants (some people think it might take place before Dark Phoniex or after Logan, it can be in any of these 3 locations it doesn’t really matter)
Logan
Deadpool 2 (this movie serves as the epilogue, but then again I don’t really see these movies as cannon,)
Continuity Errors;
Logan’s Claws
Charles Walking
The time inbetween Wolverine and Days of future past
Characters not aging
Charles being alive
Multiple Emma frost aswell as juggernauts, angel, and Colossus’
multiple actors of the same character
Dark Phoniex in general
Deadpool 1/2 in general
Mystique as Striker
Magneto having powers
Saber tooth looking nothing like his futureself
Essexcorp
I once read a comment that explain why logan was in dday and in japan and if i remember correctly the comment said that in the end of ww2 most squadron from the usa was moved in japan
Nah Logan is the timeline wise and it's the perfect ending to the X-Men franchise
Okay it makes sense now
I would be genuinely surprised to see if the First Class X-Men movie is gonna be canon
Ok the way you explain is amazing yet more confusing.🤣😂. Good thing i watch all the movies😂🤣 & understands it. But I can't promise I can explain it also🤣😂 like you did😂🤣but don't worry i still understand😂🤣. I get your point🤣😂
he was in deadpool 2 at the end
I agree that Deadpool isn’t in the X-men timeline, he specifically mentions Archangel being in the mansion yet he’s dead in both of the X-men timelines
Just one question....
Where is Ultron in any of the Sentinel futures?!?
Bob is Consumed the Fox xmen movies aren’t in the MCU.. ? Ultron doesn’t even exist in their reality ?
SUPER FRAME I know, but in other media where X Men and Avengers coexist, it would be perfect time for Ultron to hack the Master Mold units and gain control of the Sentinels, then exterminate all life via action or policies of the Sentinels. Hell why stop there with them and why wouldnt he bring them to Space with him when Ultron wants to slaughter extra terrestrial species?!?
Marvel needs to do this, im imaging Ultron’s mind possessing Nimrod or Master Mold’s body🤤
This it the 7th sourse I've found for the x men timeline... ALL OF THEM ARE DIFFERENT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I feel like the director explained it all how much shit he didn’t he was doing during the production of these films by putting his finger on his ear in 6:13 😂
Anyone who want to start the X-Men binge watching journey, this is my advice: just enjoy😂 But here is the top 3 in the franchise; Logan, DOFP, First class
The way i see it there is 3 different timelines/dimensions.
1. First Class
DOFP (theatrical)
Apocalypse
Dark Phoenix
2.X-Men
X2
Last Stand
The Wolverine
DOFP(Rouge Cut)
3. X-Men Origins
The Wolverine(optional)
Logan
Having 3 Dimensions/Timelines fixes most of the continuity, but everyone has their own way of watching, this is just my opinion on how to watch them.
X-MEN Origins: Wolverine (2009)
X-MEN: Apocalypse (2016)
X-MEN (2000)
X2: X-MEN United (2003)
X-MEN: The Last Stand (2006)
The Wolverine (2013)
X-MEN: Days Of Future Past (2014)
X-MEN: First Class (2011)
Dark Phoenix (2019)
LOGAN (2017)
X-MEN: The New Muttants (2020)
ok my brain hurts
U forgot the 2 Toads...😂😅
We can understand ourselves better.
Because many can understand in thier own way
Wait the troll from X-men is his brother from origins?
We need a new independent X-men universe but with Evan Peters as quicksilver and Hugh Jackman as wolverine
Do the TVA approve of *this?!*
Something about wolverine and the wolf I forgot what anime he was in ... but wolverines drinking water from a river and a wolf stares him down walks by takes a sip of water and walks off guess it’s that animal nature in em
It's easier to say the newer films are in a new time line because of dofp and last stand and origins are erased that's why raven died because it's a different timeline
Blade the forgotten start of the mcu
Yo thx man I thought there was only one timeline that's why I was confused but now I know there is 3 thx and I dont want anyone to judge but I'm sticking with the deadpool timeline and/or the dark pheonix ending timeline because I want to believe my Blue Boi Kurt and QuickSilver are alive and well they best bois.
FYI my wife’s father was in the navy during WWII; hw was in the Normandy Invasion and the battle of Midway.
“without mystique” NOOOO

Nobody mentions that jean turns into the phoenix in timeline 2, which means Dark Phoenix ain't canon.
X-men first class took place during the early 60's so I was no one aging. Jean Grey was discovered in 1975 in Dark Phoenix. I think she was a 10 year old girl but to keep it simple, let's say she's 5. She would have to be 42 during the main story line
If you drop the movies X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, and Dark Phoenix....and watch the movies in this order: X-Men: First Class, X-Men, X2. X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Logan the X-Men movies make sense with no continuity issues (except for Xavier claiming to meet Magneto at age 17).
Also, I am glad that you also feel like logan is canon since if it wasn’t, it would be a cop out and James mangold has said it’s canon but for some reason, some people associated with marvel wrote that it’s an alternate universe because of one line which I responded to them explaining how it’s wrong and that all the movies have timeline errors so this isn’t any different, but I do agree that Logan is canon though I do consider the Deadpool films canon as well and just say that colossus and juggernaut look different because wolverine changed the timeline.
Also, I still think that James mangold has more credibility than people “associated with marvel” even though I don’t think the ones that are are the ones that wrote that because the X-men movies were made by 20th century fox and marvel didn’t make those movies so fox actually knew more about what was canon and what wasn’t and James mangold and Patrick Stewart both said it was canon so I think it is.
Jean didn't die in dark Phoenix
Mcu is currently in 2023.
Fox ended in 2023.
If Marvel is smart enough, they'll use the timeline that was left empty and simply continued from there.
The MCU has the best opportunity to bring in the X-men and not have to do a origin story
He’s what I don’t get: When Wolverine comes back after correcting the past (thus starting timeline 2), ADULT Jean is there. Also in timeline 2, YOUNG Jean dies at the end of Dark Phoenix. Or did she come back or something? Because they do show a Phoenix flying in the sky.
As of Deadpool, well who gives a shit 😂😂😂👏🏼👏🏼
wait so if days of the future past was set in 2023 and logan was picked up in 2015 to help fight the sentiles what did they do for 7 years >>>>???
Anyone else think the begin of X-men origins was better then the entire movie?
I think the scene in Japan happened in the 70's right???
Did you mean to say that high Hackman was in the first Deadpool
deadpool changed everything
The massive problem with timeline 2 is that Jean is alive when Wolverine wakes up in the second timeline but then they killed her off in Dark Phoenix which happened before that... so that's a paradox, or did she come back to life? 🤨
i mean, a phoenix is literally a bird that rises from death, so probably
I get it
lets just say the other series is just another universe
K wait but question... if wolverine is in timeline two’s technical future after the events of future past, how is Jean Grey still at the mansion..? Because if she’s the Jean Grey from timeline two, Jean dies at the end of Dark Phoenix so how is she at the mansion? Which Jean Grey is Wolverine seeing at the end of Future Past?
So dark Phoenix branches off from timeline two creating its own third timeline, timeline two is essentially the new movies minus DP, and it’s own hypothetical X1 and X2
One thing I never understood in X-Men 3 Professor X put his soul in his twin brother who is mentally dead but can’t his mentally dead brother walk as Professor X could until he got shot but with his brother he never got shot should his body not be able to walk?
Tha most f***n timeline ever I watched
The X-Men Movies aren’t a convoluted mess, but they do have continuity problems.
I think I would have enjoyed dark Phoenix a lot more if they didn’t change the costumes again. Because they gave use the perfect beautiful suits and was like. Nah. Let’s all look like we’re in a marching band
Rip continuity
Here is how I would watch all 12 X-Men Movies:
1. X-Men First Class
2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
3. X-Men
4. X-Men 2: United
5. X-Men The Last Stand
6. The Wolverine
7. X-Men Days of Future Past
8. X-Men Apocalypse
9. Dark Phoenix
10. Deadpool
11. Logan
12. Deadpool 2
