"It's less like they did Bulkhead a favour by giving him a new toy, and more like they did this toy a favour by making it Bulkhead." is probably the best way my feelings for this toy have been described so far.
One of my favorite things about this figure is that the alt-mode is pretty much a "modern" version of the Animated Bulkhead version. Like, in Animated, he turned into a military transport vehicle, just one that was made "fifty years in the future". This is just the "real-world" equivalent of that, and I really dig it. Especially since it fits with Bulk's "giant bruiser that can ABSOLUTELY wreck shop but is mostly designed to be helpful anyways" characterization.
It feels even more specifically "Bulkhead if he was Diaclone", since "what if Bulkhead was G1" would still have a been a big chonky boy since Floro Dery loved drawing his roly-poly robots.
G1 designs feel less special when they just keep shoving them in every single new line for the past couple of years. I'm not gonna lie I'm G1'd out. I want new designs that take bold risks. I want Transtech where they had hyper futuristic designs. Nostalgia's really holding creativity back for Transformers.
One of the things I'm keen on with Legacy is that, so far, all of the figures are just pretty straight forward, no nonsense, super playable figures. No overly complicated masterpiece style transformations or intrusive gimmicks. Just nice little toys. I've been missing that quite a lot as of recent years.
So, I brought this guy home recently, and my wife saw it before I opened it. She said, "Whoa, look at the colors on that box! Oh, and it's Bulkhead!" So, yeah. Nice looking box.
As a Prime fan... definitely, booting the show's designs and coming up with "something else" is kind of a punch in the gut from the "legacy" aspect. I can just imagine them re-doing Prime Megatron and making him another tank again, or some more jet-like jet, with a blocky G1-esque bot mode. Trashing all of what made his design badass in the show. I do like Bulkhead though, in that it is a pretty neat bot they did a favor by making Bulkhead.
I love how Thew was talking how it doesn't matter if the plastic screen is on the package. That's why there is a headless Studio Series Perceptor in one of our Wal-Marts for months. Someone took his head and left him on the shelf.
I was expecting the wrecking ball to be the usual hollow on the bottom to fit over his fist... seeing that it is hinged to make a COMPLETE SPHERE makes this so much better. Giving him an optional shield as an.. sidegrade? Not really an upgrade... goes with him being the big tough guy with a gentle spark, now he can protect his mates too.

I'm hoping we get some other stuff in Legacy besides just Prime and G1. Animated, Armada, RID(2001), Victory.
Thank you for all the comparison shots with the Seige and Earthrise figures. Bulkhead fits right in.
