There is a reason for _some_ of his design traits; the idea is supposed to be that he's rebuilt himself partly from Unicron and therefore has some Unicron-y bits. It's not very evident, though; it's mostly in the arms and shoulders. But man, Cybertron went super hard on the super robot angle. It's really evident in those massive shins.

The G1 design and every design inspired by it (aside from maybe the Animated one?) doesn't scream "Leader of evil alien robots!" quite like this one does, but more like, "This is the new mass produced kill bot, meant to be sent out in troves."

And let's not forget his ultimate final battle with Prime where he legit used his front car bits as actual energy weapons slung under his arms, and the fact Prime easily BACKHANDED his attack, plus the whole energy dark energon sword. Cyb Megs was a God and he didn't care who gave a fuck about it

The Cybertron toys were the epitome of great Transformers toys, or great toyline in general. Fun gimmicks, poseable, colorful, electronics, none of the transformation is hindered, show accurate, and above all--a bang for your buck. The bigger the figures the more stuff you get out of them without any drawbacks. In all honesty no toylines in the future will ever top this. So much potential.
@@Takeshi357 They COULD revisit it in a meaningful way, but they decided to constrain themselves mostly to retools of existing toys. The Cybertron Defense Force Hot Shot based off of the Siege Hound mold was... mostly good? But lacking as a "reimagining" of CDF Hot Shot.

In 2005, I was right on the cusp of that awkward pre-teen "I'm too cool to play with kids toys" phase we all go through, so Cybertron largely passed me by. Having said that though, even at that age I recognised the awesomeness that was this figure and went and bought one, before completely ditching toy collecting for a few years. Now as an adult collector, barely a day goes by I don't thank my otherwise embarrassing pre-teen self for buying what is now one of the highlights of my collection. This toy is amazing.
You know, the horns folded back into Flattop mode actually look like a Syd Mead design. Or like something from The Big O, which was heavily based on his style.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio There are a lot of panel lines going on that do eke a bit of Mead but I'm unaware of him ever making such a humanoid face for his mechanical designs (in fact, that quote by Mead is found in his notes next to his sketches for the MR-Spi05Ω Jet Stream robot from Turn A Gundam, the least humanoid looking of them all). And I find it interesting that you suggest that Keiichi Sato drew inspiration from Syd Mead for his designs because in an interview on the 2001 Bandai Entertainment Big O volume 1 DVD he states "--I am different from Syd Mead" when talking about "how robots with funny 3D curves move." That seems to suggest the opposite to me.
I always forget that this is what Megatron looked like in Cybertron. It's pretty amazing. Transformers could do with a nice fresh redesign frenzy where they just go a little nuts.Or just bring back figures loaded with gimmicks. Sweet Amanda Holden reference bro.

Allow me to ruin it with a wonderfully frustrating (wonderfrustly?) answer! *clears throat* You need a reason to be stunning if you're the kind of character who actually CARES about how he looks. They say that form follows function, and this is especially true of the Transformers. Any visual embellishment not related to the alt. modes is an aesthetic choice made by the individual, and... I'm sorry, but Megatron was never one to care about how he looked. You may enjoy the crazy choices that were put into this design, but you're catching yourself asking the question "Why?" because the Megatron YOU know simply wouldn't care about any of this. Maybe Sunstreaker or Sideswipe, but not Megatron. I'm seeing some commenters making note of 'the Unicron armor' (no idea what they're talking about, I haven't brought myself to watch 'Cybertron' yet), but yeah, I can see some design elements from Unicron in this, and I have an easier time imagining that Megatron would equip himself with the wreckage from the Chaos Bringer himself (or is he acting as Unicron's emissary or something?) than adorning himself in these strange design choices just because. These aren't just action figures; they're characters that have taken on a life of their own, and THAT'S why you need a reason to be stunning, simplistic, utilitarian, or of any OTHER visual quality.
Plus, if you have Leobreaker, you can give Prime or Megatron DUAL LION ARMS edit: You can also flare out those boss battle pods a bit for "sort of Unicron looking Wings action", rather than straight down the back like a cape.
it's more like the Brave Series in every way and like the Brave Series it was fun all the way through with great human characters not bogging down the story (at least that seems to be the common complaint in a lot of TF shows)
As someone who grew up with the unicron trilogy... I appreciate. Honestly I don't like the grey blockhead most megatrons tend to be, these villainous purply baddies are forever the Decepticon leader in my heart
He actually does use those wheel arches as a giant death laser in the final battle and he's intended to be used with Nemesis Breaker, also they referenced this design in the TF Prime Beast Hunters movie
I absolutely love the colour combination here. It should be way too much, but instead, it looks great. This colour scheme looks and feels exactly like the year 1993, somehow.
I love how his character was like a mix between G1 and BW Megatron, with a bit of his own identity thrown in. Definitely one of my favorite versions of the character, he’s a close second behind BW Megatron.

I miss the time when the franchise actually did different stuff with it's designs. Hopefully, with the WFC giving us what many consider "definitive" toys of the G1 designs, after that we'll get back to more unique and new takes on the characters (or at the very, VERY least, updated toys of UT/RiD2001 characters). The shoulders are a callback to Amrada Unicron's shoulders, I know that much. This video makes me deeply, deeply regret not having this figure because he looks like an absolute chad.
I miss when they would only have to reuse Optimus and Megatron and they could just invent new characters for everyone else. Crazy to think now that they just got rid of Bumblebee for years and replaced him with someone else. Now the scramble for Hasbro and Takara to make up for all the stuff the third party companies filled in has just lead to an endless regurgitation of G1 everything and the need to push out so many figures lead to them cutting costs on materials and constantly reusing molds so now the lines will likely never be as solid and unique as Galaxy Force again. It's an absolute shame.
i have stumbled across this guy several times at used toy stores, flea markets, and community rummage sales, but he was always too expensive for my taste and also missing pieces
This is one of my favorite Transformers figures. Although I will say this though - some of the design aspects are to note that his form has the “Armor of Unicron” which is why there is more Orange and other colors then the other Megatron/Galvatron’s

Cybertron Megatron was the one I remember the most and I always wanted this toy. I wish kids now got the more outrageous and off the wall designs I got rather than G1 rehashes for nostalgia bait
@@BagOfMagicFood We got a few but it's always a tease. Hot Rod, Armada Starscream, Armada Megatron, Cybertron Optimus, and now Energon Megatron have gotten callback toys. And Siege Ultra Magnus had RID's UM altmode.
Override, Metroplex, Starscream, Hot Shot (technically two of them), Galaxy Upgrade Prime........ Here’s hoping Legacy’s universe dipping brings us another lovely go at this amazing Megatron! (And hopefully a better attempt at Cybertron Optimus, Galaxy Upgrade was neat but just not the same)
As someone who grew up with Cybertron, the absolute biggest tragedy of the entire show is that I can count how many times Megatron transformed into the car mode on one hand. He always went for the dumbass ugly jet mode instead. It sucks and makes me wish they didn't bother to cram the jet mode in.
Found this guy in a box of transformers each was a dollar so I bought the whole box found him complete and loved it he looks awsome. I also like to put his tire gun on his forearm like it's his fusion cannon.
I had the Galvatron deco of this figure, absolute sexy lad and REALLY hammers home the batmobile vibe. In retrospect though it's funny that Galvatron is the one with the "silver, black, and hint of red" traditional Megatron colorscheme, while Megatron himself was the brightly-colored unicron-related one.
'Succumbing to nostalgia'. Oh, that's a nice way to express what I've felt about the franchise for a long time. Every new toyline or series desperately keeps aping the G1 aesthetic. I'm so tired of every single Optimus toy that feels the need to keep that G1 aesthetic of 'cab windows and grill' chest, to the point of using 'fake parts' instead of just rolling with a design that isn't slavish recreation of his G1 cartoon look. Or black and grey Megatrons with a bucket head design and large canon on their right arm. That's fine for collector's editions but where's the creativity of design?
My favorite Tron (Design wise) is Beast Wars II Galvatron. He's Beast Wars Megatron gone super Saiyan Rose'; Proudly clad in the cherry blossom pink of his ancestral home in the land of the rising sun.

Transformers Cybertron is what I grew up watching. Those designs are my nostalgia and I wish they would bring these kinds of designs back instead of that Galaxy Upgrade Prime from Siege
I have the Galvatron version of this toy, much more reserved OG colour palette. Didnt appreciate this version OTT bombastic look at the time, but watching this review with some hindsight really made me question my younger selfs taste.
That form of Megatron goes perfectly with the voice of David Kaye who is the second best voice actor to portray him. Frank Welker will always be top of that list. Sadly missing that one from the Unicron Trilogy toyline. it's clearly the best looking Megatron out of the three versions.
I hope the next “monthly megatron!”* (may not actually be monthly) will be a redo review of animated megatron! He’s my favorite megatron and has my personal favorite alternate mode for him!
Master Megatron. the most fabulous Galactic Tyrant to grace Transformers. seriously tho, watch Galaxy force in its original language. it's a Brave Series show at its core and I cannot get enough of it.

This is my absolute favorite Megatron design. It was big. It was hefty. It was in your face with the design and colors! I certainly miss the days when leader and supreme classes were worth the $40+ price tag. Maybe one day we'll get something other than G1 or G1 inspired hollow plastic figurines.
Unfortunately $40 today is worth only about 3/4 of what it was when this bad boy came out. But that also means the ~$10,000 for development and mold fabrication from that time isn't worth nearly as much either. It's either going to be a few hollow parts or smaller figures, unfortunately. Inflation is a toy collector's worst nightmare, not just within the fandom but in the larger economy as well. Besides, Earthrise and Kingdom have been reducing the amount hollowness on parts pretty substantially compared to the Prime Wars trilogy, and we've gotten a few toys based on other series as well. The new Shattered Glass Megatron has an altmode based on Energon Megatron, and there's Galaxy Powered Optimus based on Cybertrom Optimus.
I never had the megatron version I only ever had the galavtron version just like I never had leobreaker but I had nemesis breaker for a moment before he split in two for some reason. Honestly the cybertron line was prob the best line of transformers cause no one cared they just rocked hardcore.

Just bought the Unicron Trilogy as I've never been able to watch in order so starting this voyage and now I'm binging it to get to this Megatron to see him in the show.
Yay. Another sort-of-Monthly Megatron video about a Megatron figure that I missed out on. If I had a bigger budget and started collecting TF figures in the mid-2000's despite still being in high school, I would have had this figure and/or the Galvatron repaint on my wish list. That's right, I'm sure that there are those who know that this Megatron had a silver repaint that was ironically renamed Galvatron. Last but not least, both versions were voiced by David Kaye himself from Beast Wars. To those who have this version and/or the Galvatron repaint, I salute and envy you.
Absolutely loved Cybertron Megatron think out of the three incarnations from the Unicron trilogy this one was the best. Kinda wish I got this with my Cybertron Optimus Prime.
Transformers Cybertron was my entry point into the Transformers series and I'm so happy to see an in depth review of a toy I coveted but could never get my parents to buy me
I personally prefer the Galvatron style for this design though as the first version of Megatron other than the live action Megatron he's style a nostalgic treasure to me
Aaron Archer and his team at Takara designed some wild stuffs indeed. And yes this Megatron was pretty crazy. I actually like his revolving blaster, and the animation model had the barrel extended (and looked better), while the toy right here didn't have that.

This Megatron is as subtle as a Joel Schumacher Batman movie.
You'll definitely need Nemese Breaker, their teal clashes nicely with Megatron.

The show was actually really wholesome with some over the top DBZ ass action mixed in, you should check it out sometime it's actually pretty fun
it's more like the Brave Series in every way and like the Brave Series it was fun all the way through with great human characters not bogging down the story (at least that seems to be the common complaint in a lot of TF shows)

Cybertron Megatron's alt mode, to me, is the Batmobile repainted by the Joker.

I absolutely love the colour combination here. It should be way too much, but instead, it looks great. This colour scheme looks and feels exactly like the year 1993, somehow.

I love how his character was like a mix between G1 and BW Megatron, with a bit of his own identity thrown in. Definitely one of my favorite versions of the character, he’s a close second behind BW Megatron.

I miss the time when the franchise actually did different stuff with it's designs. Hopefully, with the WFC giving us what many consider "definitive" toys of the G1 designs, after that we'll get back to more unique and new takes on the characters (or at the very, VERY least, updated toys of UT/RiD2001 characters).
The shoulders are a callback to Amrada Unicron's shoulders, I know that much. This video makes me deeply, deeply regret not having this figure because he looks like an absolute chad.
I agree I like seeing other designs that not always completely g1 all the time.
I miss when they would only have to reuse Optimus and Megatron and they could just invent new characters for everyone else. Crazy to think now that they just got rid of Bumblebee for years and replaced him with someone else. Now the scramble for Hasbro and Takara to make up for all the stuff the third party companies filled in has just lead to an endless regurgitation of G1 everything and the need to push out so many figures lead to them cutting costs on materials and constantly reusing molds so now the lines will likely never be as solid and unique as Galaxy Force again. It's an absolute shame.

i have stumbled across this guy several times at used toy stores, flea markets, and community rummage sales, but he was always too expensive for my taste and also missing pieces

This is one of my favorite Transformers figures. Although I will say this though - some of the design aspects are to note that his form has the “Armor of Unicron” which is why there is more Orange and other colors then the other Megatron/Galvatron’s

As someone who grew up with Cybertron, the absolute biggest tragedy of the entire show is that I can count how many times Megatron transformed into the car mode on one hand. He always went for the dumbass ugly jet mode instead. It sucks and makes me wish they didn't bother to cram the jet mode in.
He is one of the reasons that Cybertron was one of my FAVORITE toy lines, although sadly I never owned that Megatron.....
Found this guy in a box of transformers each was a dollar so I bought the whole box found him complete and loved it he looks awsome. I also like to put his tire gun on his forearm like it's his fusion cannon.

I had the Galvatron deco of this figure, absolute sexy lad and REALLY hammers home the batmobile vibe. In retrospect though it's funny that Galvatron is the one with the "silver, black, and hint of red" traditional Megatron colorscheme, while Megatron himself was the brightly-colored unicron-related one.
Cybertron Megatron is so far removed from what I think Megatron is generally perceived as, and I love him all the more for it.

'Succumbing to nostalgia'. Oh, that's a nice way to express what I've felt about the franchise for a long time. Every new toyline or series desperately keeps aping the G1 aesthetic. I'm so tired of every single Optimus toy that feels the need to keep that G1 aesthetic of 'cab windows and grill' chest, to the point of using 'fake parts' instead of just rolling with a design that isn't slavish recreation of his G1 cartoon look. Or black and grey Megatrons with a bucket head design and large canon on their right arm. That's fine for collector's editions but where's the creativity of design?
My favorite Tron (Design wise) is Beast Wars II Galvatron. He's Beast Wars Megatron gone super Saiyan Rose'; Proudly clad in the cherry blossom pink of his ancestral home in the land of the rising sun.

Transformers Cybertron is what I grew up watching. Those designs are my nostalgia and I wish they would bring these kinds of designs back instead of that Galaxy Upgrade Prime from Siege
Out of all of Meg's alt modes throughout the franchise, Cybertron Megatron is one of my favorites next to Beast Wars Megatron and TLK Megatron

I have the Galvatron version of this toy, much more reserved OG colour palette. Didnt appreciate this version OTT bombastic look at the time, but watching this review with some hindsight really made me question my younger selfs taste.
That form of Megatron goes perfectly with the voice of David Kaye who is the second best voice actor to portray him. Frank Welker will always be top of that list.
Sadly missing that one from the Unicron Trilogy toyline. it's clearly the best looking Megatron out of the three versions.
I'll always have ragerts about not picking this one and Galvatron up. Both were such great figures.

This is my absolute favorite Megatron design. It was big. It was hefty. It was in your face with the design and colors! I certainly miss the days when leader and supreme classes were worth the $40+ price tag.
Maybe one day we'll get something other than G1 or G1 inspired hollow plastic figurines.
Unfortunately $40 today is worth only about 3/4 of what it was when this bad boy came out. But that also means the ~$10,000 for development and mold fabrication from that time isn't worth nearly as much either. It's either going to be a few hollow parts or smaller figures, unfortunately. Inflation is a toy collector's worst nightmare, not just within the fandom but in the larger economy as well.
Besides, Earthrise and Kingdom have been reducing the amount hollowness on parts pretty substantially compared to the Prime Wars trilogy, and we've gotten a few toys based on other series as well. The new Shattered Glass Megatron has an altmode based on Energon Megatron, and there's Galaxy Powered Optimus based on Cybertrom Optimus.

I never had the megatron version I only ever had the galavtron version just like I never had leobreaker but I had nemesis breaker for a moment before he split in two for some reason. Honestly the cybertron line was prob the best line of transformers cause no one cared they just rocked hardcore.
My sense of time is so bad that Monthly Megatron does feel monthly and I get confused when he's all 'it's never monthly'.

Just bought the Unicron Trilogy as I've never been able to watch in order so starting this voyage and now I'm binging it to get to this Megatron to see him in the show.
Yay. Another sort-of-Monthly Megatron video about a Megatron figure that I missed out on. If I had a bigger budget and started collecting TF figures in the mid-2000's despite still being in high school, I would have had this figure and/or the Galvatron repaint on my wish list. That's right, I'm sure that there are those who know that this Megatron had a silver repaint that was ironically renamed Galvatron. Last but not least, both versions were voiced by David Kaye himself from Beast Wars. To those who have this version and/or the Galvatron repaint, I salute and envy you.
Absolutely loved Cybertron Megatron think out of the three incarnations from the Unicron trilogy this one was the best. Kinda wish I got this with my Cybertron Optimus Prime.

I personally prefer the Galvatron style for this design though as the first version of Megatron other than the live action Megatron he's style a nostalgic treasure to me

Aaron Archer and his team at Takara designed some wild stuffs indeed. And yes this Megatron was pretty crazy. I actually like his revolving blaster, and the animation model had the barrel extended (and looked better), while the toy right here didn't have that.
if there's one thing cybertron did REAL damn well, it was ground-based vehicle modes.
