Fun fact! The titanium figures were outsourced! Neither the transformers design team nor god had any hand in the creation of the titanium series.
It was the Micro Machines team, wasn't it?

i feel like that might be the intent? would make a land-sea-air trio with galvatron and cyclonus, and his head poking up gives some real periscope vibes, maybe they just didnt have enough underwater scenes in the increasingly space-focused third season

It's a reference to the anime Sonic X. In one particular scene where Dr. Eggman shows up unexpectedly, when asked how he managed to get past the security keeping evil geniuses like him out, he simply answers "I pretended I was a bar of soap and gave them all the slip."
So, the quote was altered to reference Scourge's alternate mode resembling that of a bar of soap
on an RP I was on some years back, a favorite epithet for Sweeps was "Soapdish"!

Scourge has pink fingertips because he shoots plasma beams from them. You can can see it briefly in the 86' commercial for him.

Fun Fact about Generations Scourge: the double hinges on his wings let them fold over and layer up to make the most fabric-approximating capetacular cape imaginable!
They can also be positioned to replicate the animation wings. Or as close as any of the figures ever got.
Given that Douglas Adams described The Heart Of Gold as looking like a running shoe, I always thought that Scourge was an oblique reference to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy because he turns into a Plimsole? An Espadrille? I dunno, I was a weird kid.
Man I can't believe that dragon Scourge video was 13 years ago, I remember that barutazaru era distinctly. Time really does catch up with us
I was born in the nineties so late that it was the 2000s by the time I was able to form memories and I've only started collecting in the last year, but I had a lot of tf toys as a kid.
The only G1 toy I've ever had hands-on time with was Scourge, as a friend's dad had a bunch of G1 toys in his garage from his younger days. That's kinda special to me.
Also, there is something you can compare Scourge's alt mode to, which was very popular in that time period. Luke Skywalker's landspeeder
Out of the 3 Unicron Spawns;
I always felt Scourge got the short-end of the stick.
For starters, he looks NO different from his Legion of Troops. Not even some fancy décor or status OR _ANYTHING_ to separate him for his Cardboard Cut-Out Goons, so he just blends in.
But worst of all, EVERYONE keeps taking his name;
From his own Sweeps, to Evil Optimuses, *(Optimi),* to Dragon-Kings, & to ANOTHER Unicron Spawn.
Man can never catch a break.
It doesn't help that he doesn't exactly have that much of a prevalent personality. Like Cyclonus has the honorable warrior shtick, and Galvatron is either just Megatron in a new body or is bat-shit insane, and meanwhile Scourge is just kind of your average Decepticon brute. I mean yeah, there was the episode where he went crazy when he got the Matrix, but that was just a one off thing.
Hot take, but I personally love Cybertron Scourge the most for his personality and story of learning that might doesn't always make right.
Not to mention him getting saddled with the least intimidating alt mode of the three or his off-screen, silent, and unmentioned death in IDW. Poor bro just can't catch a break indeed.

Yea. Now you mention it, thats true. Hmph. The only difference between Scourge (Thundercracker) from his Sweeps is his blue being darker.......like, thats it.
Yea, he deserves better. I like him. I like Scourge (Thundercracker) and Scourge (Evil, Devil desciple truckman).
I dunno, I like that the 86 re-coloring lets you pick one as THE Scourge. If you like the Blue One, then HE'S the leader and the other two are Sweeps. Or vice versa! It adds some nice customizationability.
G1 Scourge's most obvious influence in vehicle mode is surely Luke Skywalker's Sandspeeder.
Blurr is more like it, tho. But, the resemblance between Scourge (Thundercracker) to Luke's Landspeeder is uncanny.

G1 Scourge seems like an homage to the Star Wars landspeeder
Scourge is a hovercraft... specifically moddeled after the bell 10000t a very early and massive air cushion hovercraft prototype from the 60s.
Target 2000 and 60s.
Dragon Scourge was such a good character in Cybertron, and his weird friendship with Lori was adorable. I need a new toy of the big man, he was so good.
Scourge: "here you can copy my homework, just change it a little"
Luke's Landspeeder: "you got it bro"

The good folks behind Micro Machines are the ones responsible for the Titanium series.
I just realized that G1 Scourge would make a perfect Dracula Transformer. Repaint in black and red and make the dubious hovercraft into a coffin. Perfect
G1 Scourge is one of my most favourite Transformers.
I loved the shell-forming. It allowed his inner bot to be sleek and stylised like no other.
Transforming him never got old.
He gets too much grief from haters.
Bug Scourge reminds me of a quote from Zorak in Space Ghost Coast to Coast, "I'm the lone locust of the apocalypse!"
"Insectaur" reminded me of Sectaurs, that line of He-Man esque 80s toys from a land where dudes rode giant bugs that were also hand puppets for the kids.

I prefer the original Studio series 86 colors simply because my mom saw it and said "I like him, he's periwinkle."
Such assessments can affect personal taste, haha.
G1 scourge is so hard angles and flat surfaces, he looks more like a rocket surfboard than a vehicle.
And Titanium looks like they tried to design him from memory.
I'm shocked we haven't had a giant Bat scourge based on how he tucks himself in like he had batwings.

It's amazing I'd never thought of the Sweeps as Scourge's husbands. Now I will never think of it any other way.

I always assumed scourge was supposed to be kinda like Luke's landspeeder. Like, the toy has wheels, so it rolls, but then by the time the movie came out, it flew, which is kinda cool honestly.
I always felt like Unicron kinda made Scourge and the sweeps like little demi versions of himself. I know that's not the case but as a kid they seemed like they were vaguely modeled after him with the facial hair, the demon wings, and pointy toe feet and claws. Just personal head cannon
As an RID 2001 kid it feels real cool that truck Scourge has gotten so big that he can’t fit in a video with ol boat boy
I mean no offense to the G1 guy but I just think truck scourge fits the name better imo
The more I look back at the Beast Wars figures the more I realize that the toy designers were going for body horror from the beginning, what with Cheetor's guts gun and the shell formers having interior detail
actually the Titanium series wasn't done by the Transformers crew as in Takara on Hasbro in-house but outsourced to the people who made the Micro Machines toys and they HAD NO EXPERIENCE in making shape-changing robot toys which is kinda a mindbogglingly weird decision.

Generations Scourge is the reason I started painting in the mustache and fingernails of all my follow up Scourges. Titans Returns Scourge sits on my shelf with his feet/legs turned 180 so the whites are facing forward....
I always saw Scourge as a hovercraft thingy but seeing him again after all this time its pretty obvious the original 86 mode is a Landspeeder with the two rear boosters rotated up
Enough Scourges to make an army of sweeps that are all different.
The 2010 was such an amazing update and the way that the arms transformed has always been one of my favorite transformations on a figure.
I have to admit that the beast wars version has a really bad ass looking head sculpt in robot mode
2010 Scourge is timeless to me because not only did they manage to gin up an Earth mode for space boat man, he's got an amazing transformation to boot!

Cybertron Scourge was the Transformer that kickstarted my my collection. Love that guy. Also, I love that Thew still hasn't shifted the dragon heads down when in robot mode.
There is a third set of landing gear on the generations scourge. I'm not surprised that people miss it since it's hidden away in the bottom of the neck slider, it's a big double wheel that folds out towards the back. It's a pain in the ass to move because you have to have a firm control over the other three moving parts occupying the same cubic inch, (something that gets scarier the longer your copy has been out of the box) the landing gear panel is also on a super tight hinge that might have a detent, a real joy on the fingernails.

I'll admit, I did buy 2 Sweeps, my first (and probably last) ever "army builder" so I would have the three Seeker vibe on the go.
I don't have these many years of experience and attachment, but honestly I much preferred the colors of 86 Scourge. Which means I got Sweep first because it's the one I could find, and then I spent quite a bit of time looking for his slightly differently colored brother. I haven't put that much effort into getting something that's almost the same as the other thing I already had, but that's how much I wanted that more purple hue, what can I say

I still remember how I found Generations Scourge. Someone had repacked TR Scourge with it and it felt like an opportunity to buy something better, despite the fact it had two right hands.
I always love how when you look at all the figures for a character like this, each one is inching closer and closer to being the best one.

Draculus even took SS86 Scourge (and Sweep)'s dramatic clawed hands.
The Studio Series (I just feel icky abbreviating it) '86 one's head is SO GOOD, it feels like it belongs on a character with so much more personality. It looks like a whole Kraven-the-Hunter-style guest character, not "faceless army"

It took me UNTIL he started going on about the Studio Series toy that I realized why he was rocking pink nails.
It’s depressing (and a testament to how little I care for the 86 guys) that this is the first time I've seen what G1 scourge looks like.
That Manterror name drop makes me hopeful we'll get a review of him some day.
Weirdly I think Scourge was my favorite of the Unicron trio as a kid getting into Transformers and learning that G1 was a thing. I think I like him just because he's blue and he's got a beard.

Not gonna lie, G1 Scourge's alt mode has serious X-34 Landspeeder vibes (Luke's landspeeder from A New Hope)

I actually think Titanium Scourge's cape looks the best, but for the total package the S86 mold does take the lead. It looks great in black and purple for Senator Ratbat too!

The hands on Studio Series Scourge and Sweep swapped, which is great because you can actually swap the hands so Scourge has both of the open hands while Sweep has both of the closed fists. You just need a properly sized screwdriver. The whole point I bought Sweep, was just to swap the hands.
I think they used the same hands for Draculus 👀

The one thing Studio Series Scourge needs to be perfect is a tweaked leg transformation to better fill out the back and underside. Still a lovely figure.

For style points, you can also transform the wings, leaving the rest of the body intact, and fold them around his shoulders for a pseudo trench-coat-pimp-cape effect. Looks baller on mine :) 26:38
