    if tesla brought its giga factories it would reduce the amount of power cuts. For instance tesla could start a power company and charge people the same amount per watts as charging stations. This will reduce load shedding and also decrease tariffs. And also help south africa into a more sustainable electric economy

    This is the one that we need to help change our fossil fuel preference. I truly think its the way we need to go. Loadshedding is not a limitting factor in the grand scheme of things. Us South Africans are resilient and we will make it work as a part of our daily lives. The cost of fuel and vehicle maintenance is never going down and we need this ‘market disruptor’ now!!!!

    The problem with these cars in SA is that they actively prevent you running over people or into things. That generally makes a lot of sense but with highjacking avoidance you sometimes need to be able to do aggressive driving. With this the highjackers don't even need to cover your exit with cars, they can do it on foot...

    • @aidanapword
      @aidanapword 2 года назад +3

      And highjacking a Tesla will be harder because of a thing called "pin to drive" ... So you can't just eject the person from the driver's seat and drive off.
      Doesn't stop people extracting the pin from the driver during the highjacking ... But it would be easier to highjack a car that doesn't have pin to drive.

    My dream is to have solar panels on my roof (maybe a Tesla Powerwall installation?) and a Tesla car in the garage. If I had the money, I would not even factor in Eskom at all. My home gets plenty of sunlight year round. I've already transitioned to gas cooking and that saves me a lot of money. It's just that going full solar is an expensive exercise.

    Theoretically, I think concerns about electric cars have been addressed, but practically that is only satisfactory for a select few at this stage. ICE cars, for example, will be the most affordable and practical for a long time to come, but I am rooting for the market to expand a little so that EVs could be affordable. Maybe the Chinese need to manufacture EV cars at crazy low prices, instal fast charging units for free for customers. I'll be happy when EVs can do 1000km with fast charging literally everywhere on the road.

    • @aidanapword
      @aidanapword 2 года назад

      Touring in the US in Tesla is no problem at all ... And they face the same challenges regarding distances.
      The network will have to catch up - which is a truly big challenge I agree - but not impossible.
      One of the many reasons why Tesla lead the electric car market in the US and Europe is the supercharger network.
      I don't think Tesla will want to manufacture cars in South Africa without getting involved in growing the charging network ... And massively.

I think when you drive an Electric Vehicle (EV) you really need to carefully plan your journey every time to avoid running out of juice. Also, most sensible drivers of EVs drive them sensibly instead of flooring them because the more you floor it the quicker the battery runs out. I work in London and we have lots of EVs over here. I see many people sitting in their cars charging them outside some charging points and I’m thinking if you had petrol you would have arrived at your destination by now🤣🤣. The problem with these cars is that they are one trick ponies, they are only good from a standing start over a quarter mile or robot to robot. Throw in a few turns and things get interesting. For instance, the BMW M4 has a faster time than the Tesla Plaid at the Nurburgring despite the Tesla having double the power (1020 hp vs 473 hp). And the Megane RS and the Audi RS3 are only 5 seconds behind the Plaid despite being hot hatches. Because of the battery weight these cars handle like boats. It all depends on whether you are willing to deal with the compromises that BEV cars require. For some, the knife edge precision, exhaust note, dramatic gear changes and overall sense of occasion that you get from a Lambo or Porsche or M Power BMW or Merc AMG will be hard to overlook. And the fact that they all can fill up in 5 minutes.

    Word of advice to the camera man, we expect shots of the stuff/features spoken about, do not just keep the camera focused on the journalist. storage place for instance, camera man failed to show that…

      I've noticed that and not the first time, which is why I mostly watch international reviews they are more focused on showing each an every item spoken of. I could not even see the boot because the camera was more focused on the presenter

    That is a first step to end air pollution and to minimize fuel cost which is always a problem locally. How do we overcome the issues of service especially when it comes to water getting inside the battery and the motors. The last time I checked people where struggling to get their cars fixed as they are not allowed to do the service on their own, and only Tesla is permitted to carry out that work?

    I've been watching plenty ev reviews online. Tesla just for Super Ritch. Should bring in some of the Chinese makes. They quarter the price and just as good. NIO ES8 would be my choice.

    Wow wow wow, I am a Serious Tesla Fan. I will love to Buy a Tesla and to own one for ever. My personal favorite is the Model Y, 7 Seater.
    But if they bring Tesla to South Africa I will definitely also buy the Dual Motor Cyber Truck.
    I definitely Support Rubicon in bringing Tesla Back Home, because Elon Musk was born here in South Africa and he is a South African Citizen just like me and you.
    Rubicon we need to work together to can bring Tesla Back Home. Maybe we must Organize a Peaceful Match to the Government to Hand over our Memorundum of Demand to Reduce Tax on Electric Cars. The Petrol Price went up again, now on 11 December 2021 it is R20 for 1 Litre of Petrol.
    I am available to can assist any time, I love Electric Cars. Tell us when and where and many more people like me, will be there 😉 to Support

    Since import duties are steep, I think Tesla should consider setting up a giga factory here to build their cars for the African market or continent. They might get tax benefits and incentives🤷🏾‍♂️

    I just find them so drab looking, like an old Mazda 323, I was hoping with the guy driving across the country, we would get an explanation of how it is done,were did he charge it up,as a Cape Townian living in PTA ,would really love to know how I would complete the 1300km journey

    • @dewaldcarstens3380
      @dewaldcarstens3380 2 года назад

      To drive the 1300km you will just charge the car when you stop to get a bite and go to the toilet. One can do 2 longer stops where you have a bite and a rest or do more stops with shorter charging

    Fantastic review but I have a few questions.
    So you mentioned the owner paid 90% of the value in Tax on top of the selling price ($112590 base), that puts the car in the 3.6mil range.
    So maintenance is almost none on this type of car but what happens when you need to replace the battery?
    How long does the battery last?
    Looking online tells me that some tesla owners bought a new vehicle rather than changing the battery as it was basically the same price.
    If that is true and lets say for arguments sake that the battery only lasts 5 years
    The having to take out 3.6mil every 5 years, still makes ICE cars cheaper in the long run
