    Avery Dots!! Chris, I LOVE you for this tip! Thanks to 50 years of collecting and a membership in Marvel Unlimited, I now have access to every Marvel comic since Fantastic Four #1. And so, I started a chronological "read thru" a couple of years ago (I'm up to March 1970 at the moment). I decided that I would switch from poly to mylar as I opened and read my old issues. Everything was going smoothly until one day when I wanted to get back into a silver-age comic... and the Scotch tape (that I had been using on poly bags for decades) would NOT come off the mylar! Suddenly, it was as if I "slabbed" my comics in mylar! Then I discover your channel and you teach me about Avery Dots!! I added them to my Amazon cart immediately!! If I lived closer, I'd drive over there an hug you!! (I'm in central Virginia... come visit!!)

      I’m so glad you like the tip! It’s not my idea. I learned it from someone but happy to pass it on. Sometimes the dots can come undone but they’re mostly good since they’re just in boxes pressed up against other books.
      Im sorry that happened with scotch tape but I totally get it. I’ve had scotch tape stick to poly and Mylar. My biggest issue with tape on Mylar is that the edges are quite sharp and rip the tape. The dots just seem to work.
      So cool you’re reading through chronologically on Marvel Unlimited. I just renewed my subscription and might consider something like that for myself!
      Thanks for watching and thanks for the amazing comment!

    Great vid. Comic organization is personal to each collector but hearing other peoples methods is good to see also. Budget + Space + Supply availability are all things considered to each collector.
    For me, I have 3 boards per bag and I can fit about 125 comics per short box with this method. I also add a note about each comic on a post it note and place it on the back side of each comic bag and board. The notes has main details of each comic, date of print, price range and grade. I also use white Japanese washy tape, it's great to hold the flap but also doesn't stick on the comic too much to peel off. It also gives that polished look per book.

      Great comments! I never tried washi tape but does sound like a clean look. What kind of bags/boards do you use? I like the idea of a post it note too. Then the info is right there with the book. Do you keep any kind of app/online organization as well?

      @@northgardencomics I use BCW current poly bags with BCW regular boards. I use this washy tape: amzn.to/2QVBMv7. It looks clean against the white board. I use white post it note to add info on the book: amzn.to/3vu4mTp. If you need to update the info, it's as easy as using a new post it note. The 3 boards idea came from someone at a local convention. It may be unnecessary to some but protecting the book from spine ticks was important to him. It looks aesthetically pleasing: bit.ly/3etAFe7
      For now I just use Google sheets to keep inventory of my comics and what issues to get next. When I go to my local LCS, i like to come prepared so I don't over spend. I also don't want to hoard comics. I don't have major super keys in my collection, but books that I think keep my collection interesting and unique.

    All my Midtown books came in polybags, but I do get standard mylite 2 with full backboards. Enjoy your weekend Northgarden. 👍✌

      I like that standard mylite2 size. I get my DCBS books with a Mylite and a half back. Not quite as thick as the Mylite2 but they’re cheap and work fine for basic storage. Have a great weekend!

    Agreed. This is exactly why I use BCW. Better fit. I stumbled on this by accident of course. 😂

      Took me a while before I realized it too. We collectors really do focus in on the details eh?

    I'm transitioning all mine slowly to Mylar bags and comic clear backing boards.

      Clear backing boards, nice! I’ve seen them but never tried them. I’m doing the slow transition too. Working from my oldest books forward.

    Great video! I was just researching this last night. I'm just starting to recollect the comics I had as a kid so spending money on supplies is absolutely seen as a hindrance to getting more comics!
    Where do you mainly buy from? Is it mostly lcs or do you buy online? If online do you go straight to say, bcw for example or are prices lower through a retailer that you've found?

    • @northgardencomics
      @northgardencomics  3 года назад +1

      That’s great you’re recollecting the comics you had as a kid. Yeah, it’s tough spending money on supplies. I know I need them but I’d always rather have more comics. The Mylar supplies I bought straight from the egerber website. Bought about 500 bags and boards so I should be ok for a bit. I’m slowly transitioning my oldest books over. For poly bags I like the BCW and get them off Amazon since I have Prime and free shipping.

      It's a long process! So far everything I've bought has been bagged and boarded. Granted, some may be original bags and boards from the 80s, but with the fillers I've been getting it's good for now. I'll bite the bullet eventually to start replacing soon enough I'm sure. Thanks for the added info!

    Doubling them up is an interesting idea. What kind of tape do you use on the flap? Oh, just seeing you answer this now in the video.

      Most of my bags are still sealed with scotch tape. Just recently got the Avery dots so it’ll take a long time before it converts over. Not looking to make a major project of it. Probably just going to use the dots going forward and then swap out the tape as I go into the other books.

    You and I have been collecting for about the same amount of time Chris. I have a mixture of basic current / modern bags and my-lites for the Bronze Age Collection. I'm with you on those square bound books, and even a few in the early part of the Bronze Age NOT fitting into the current size bags or my-lites. So I do use Silver Age as needed, but the space on the sides bugs me a little. I'll need to pay closer attention to the 1/8 " size differential when ordering my next round of supplies.

      Very cool. When did you start? I started in 1987. Do you remember your first comic book? And do you still have it?

      @@northgardencomics Getting books at The Smoke Shop with my pap occasionally starting 1977. But getting monthly books from 1984 and up. Been a few stops and starts post comic book crash of the 90’s. But I’m mostly back issues now with 6-7 from DCBS each month. I have new content up on my channel this week from a con and LCS visits if you want to check it out. Be well.

    Is it hard slipping two comics into 1 bag? My collection is all poly bagged with only my valuable issues getting the luxury of a board. However I recently bought some of those silver age sized mylar bags for the first time. Even though I'm mainly a copper age nostalgia collector I own a silver age Neil Adam's Batman and its old poly bag was looking ugly. My LCS had packs of 8 rather than just 100 which was perfect. Mylar really is the gold standard but you certainly pay for it. Love the avary dot idea! Tape is messy and a risk to books

    • @northgardencomics
      @northgardencomics  3 года назад +1

      I haven’t had a problem doubling up. I’m using the standard size bag from E Gerber. It’s like a silver age size poly bag and I use the half back thickness backing board. Most of my collection is still in poly too. Slowly making the change over but it’s going to take a long time. I know Mylar is best for the older books but i also think environment is just as important as the bag/board you use.

      I have been using CLZ for years. It’s been fantastic for tracking my collection and wish lists. I haven’t done a comparison of different services in a long time so might be worth googling and seeing what’s out there today based on what’s most important to you.

      Unfortunately I had that but they stopped supporting Mac computers, hence the need for new software. Thank you for taking the time to reply
