    featuring: Bob Brozman, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Martin Simpson, Mike Auldridge & Freddie Roulette
    As country singer John Anderson once said, the trouble with middle-of-the-road is "a fella can get run over out there." Slide guitar players have known this all along. Their music has mostly steered clear of the center line, and the fickle glare of public attention. This DVD features five modern slide guitar masters whose music is all over the map. The set of performances includes reincarnated Delta blues, Indian ragas, swinging bluegrass, and pop tunes.
    In this clip Bob Brozman plays Chopping Wood Blues.
    Titles include: BOB BROZMAN Hawaiian African Slack Delta Dream, Mournful Moan FREDDIE ROULETTE End of the Blues, Sweet Walk MIKE AULDRIDGE Stompin' at the Savoy, Medley: Killing Me Softly With His Song/This Ain't Grass VISHWA MOHAN BHATT Raag Misra Piloo MARTIN SIMPSON Spoonful, Medley: Stole and Sold From Africa/Wayfaring Stranger FREDDIE ROULETTE Norwegian Wood, Blueberry Hill BOB BROZMAN Chopping Wood Blues, E Mama Ea Medley VISHWA MOHAN BHATT Raag Chandrakauns

    I have a lesson tape of his in which he says "just because you can doesn't mean you have to" perhaps he should follow his own advice.

    He was talented but is over playing by quite a bit. Call him a show off if you like. Country blues is a feel genre, not complicated. He tried to make it so. Doesn't work for me...

      He's a great player, but he tries to do too much. Most of the great Blues/Roots musicians were stylists. Blind Willie Johnson did one thing (moody slide guitar), and he did it beautifully. Robert Johnson did alot of different things, but they were all Blues, and they were all him. Mississippi John Hurt was a melodic fingerpicker, with an instantly recognizeable style. Bob Brozman does too much. He has an interesting way of explaining how these disparate elements go together (colonized music has a triplet feel and so forth), but that's more musical pedagogy than having a unified artistic style, which should be the the ultimate goal of any artist. I actually like watching him talk about music more than I like his playing. But even here, he displays an elitism, looking down on pop music because of it's simplicity. Not that I disagree with him, but still, the goal of any musician is to be heard.

    i don't know much about BB music but i've seen twice now he is using bell brass tricone resonator , which i currently have a fix on resonators right now , so bought myself the RK RM-991 bell brass tricone model - hoping it will sound both warm & bell like metallic (not harsh) ❕🐊 🐸🍀

      @@RussellColtrane Bob Brozman committed suicide on Tuesday evening, 23rd April 2013, shortly after learning that he was to be taken to court for the severe sexual abuse of a child. Brozman's first wife - stated that Brozman had sexually molested children and Gary Atkinson, Brozman's former UK manager stated that while Brozman was in the UK on tour (1994), Brozman molested Mr. Atkinson's nine year old daughter.This is not an "opinion" this is a fact. And even if Atkinson's daughter had been the only one Brozman violated, it is damning enough. Several people close to Brozman, including famed acoustic instrumentalist David Lindley, believe the charges to be true.

    I've long been impressed with Bob's breathtaking technical skills and equally impressed with how little that translated into being moved by his music. KInd of like the debate between who was a better drummer, Buddy Rich or Gene Krupa. Buddy had incredible speed but moved me musically about as much as a listening to a running washing machine while Krupa made me want to get up and dance. The child molestation accusations don't help, especially coming from the sources that they do. We'll never know but what a tragic life, in any case.

    • @leyniaLip
      @leyniaLip 6 лет назад +1

      I wonder if it is his ever-rapid pace that creates that reaction.. Brozman's mind and playing are top-speed. I can see where these could feel manic and devoid of feeling, if the listener's personal pace was different. On the other hand, maybe these factors have nothing to do with your response. However you feel about this piece, or about Brozman, is how you feel. It's interesting and useful to read how listeners react. I thank you for just expressing your reaction, and not attacking the musician, as many people do.

      @@redduketeleman You mean like the accusation his manager in Europe made when he discovered what he said happened to his daughter? Brozman's committing suicide kind of speaks loudly. No, we'll never know, But perhaps you have no better call to suggest he was guilt free as is someone who believes a possible child victim and says he's guilty. Maybe both sides would be better off just letting him disappear with time.
