And to think he's playing slide with this kind of mastery and precision on a twelve string is mind blowing...the man's a beast, very underrated and in my opinion as a slide player, one of the best in the world.
Slide on the 12...yes...Blind Willie McTell showed us on record, what this could be. I play this kinda mess myself, on my DeArmond Electric 12. Good Times.
CRIMINALLY underrated slide/guitar player. I saw him live many times in the late 80's and it was jaw dropping every time. I have seen some of the best most famous blues/rock players of all time and Roy's show is one of the top 5 i have ever had the pleasure to witness....he is simply outstanding.
Spectacularly good. I hadn't seen Roy play before & the performance knocked me out. He had so much going on yet maintained a strong groove throughout. What a bag of licks!!!!
Great cover of a song that many have done. This is one of my favorite! This guy is tremendous, only ran across him recently, glad I did! Thanks Mr Roy you da man
He played at the Hotel Alex Johnson in Rapid City, SD sometime around 1990, and I caught his solo act. I'd never heard of him. Didn't know what to expect. He was freakin' awesome. Asked us if we wanted to hear any particular song, and requested "Little Red Rooster." He smiled and nailed it.
I have watched this video load's of times, recommended it to others many times, none better, fantastic entertainment thanks Roy, kind regards Pete over the pond 🤓
TABS???? Good Lord man, he's all over that fret board like a freak'in machine. Talk about multi-tasking. He's singing, picking, fingering, and sliding on that guitar like he's ringing a bell. If Chuck Berry saw Roy first, Johnny B Goode would have never existed.
If there was such a thing as a test for finger speed I am sure this man would be the world champ. I love the music, the persona and all the cool stuff in every piece he plays.
Mike Amira heard them all the ozzie is ok but roy is STILL THE MASTER OF SLIDE AND THATS HOW WHITE BOYS ROLL HAHA WE MASTER ANYTHING WE DO ITS OUR NATURE OUR SPECIES THAT RISE ABOVE COMMON MAN !!
Holy Shit! Can't stop watchin' it over'n over again. Goes right into my heart & bones! Fantastic Music...Thanks for the Upload & share! Great Job! Greetz from Germany!
Every time I listen to a slide guitar blues I imagine myself driving from Texas to Lousiana or to a farther state with sunglasses and smoking like in movies, desert around with some motels or hotels on the road a long highway. Well.. the US fully broke into our hearts by all meaning
Seen this great guitar player and his band in a very small venue in upstate New York. Very gracious man allowed me to the dressing room to get other band members autographs. Many years ago but I will never forget the memories
Roy is one of those guitar slingers that if you see him live, as you stand there watching him you keep saying to yourself "that can't be done on a guitar". Yet there you are watching!!!
Love that resonator.. . Sounds great man ..one of my favorite blues songs...i expected elmore james to start singing at any moment... He would have liked your guitar playin too..yes sir buddy....
Saw this guy play live years ago at Burkes Place on Huntington Ave. Boston. Our own, little Bucket of Blood at the time. Miss the days, miss the music too.
I didn't read all the comments but I didn't see anyone mention that he is picking, plucking, strumming and sliding on 16 strings also. Crisp, clean and clear. GREAT
He's only got 6 strings on it, though. It's a fairly common "safe" way to play an acoustic with big fat electric strings on it without destroying the thing. I used to do that with an old Epiphone 12, all wood, louder than ANY dobro I ever played with.
not sure on the why using the 12 string...maybe just preference on the guitar itself...but...if you ever are blessed to be at a Roy & Rhythm Kings show...he plays it fast and fat...lots of power, keeping the dance floor packed while still using an acoustic (primarily). His string choice for live performances. On record, depending on the tune, he runs the gamut.
+JessMacRho A 12-string guitar would have a wider neck than a 6-string, which may better suit his style of playing, and a much sturdier neck and body, allowing heavier strings to be used. And he IS incredible!
+Tom Ford good call. I should have thought of structural integrity. Can't blame a man for preference anyways. And yes he's super good! He makes it look easy. :(
if theres just one type of music i could listen 2 for the rest of my life it would be the blues who with me?
derawket mee tooo!. Do I know u?
Do you know the booogie wooogie?
I am with you brother!
derawket Me too! Check out my favorite blues artist who isnt well known. Its The Glen Kaiser Blues Band.
In Jesus name! Amen!
Roy's one of the most underrated slide guitar players ever ...
Who's underrating him?
He should be a household name.
Definitely impressive playing, that's for sure. Never heard of him until I did searches on the YT. So you may be onto something here. :-)
Guaranteed all the household names know very much who he is👍
and I was one of those ignoring him. until I saw this. Fantastic talent.
What's truly amazing is so many folks don't know this man's Genius!!
It's senseless arguing who's the greatest player of any instrument. Just enjoy all the diversity that's out there. They're all great!
Spot on my friend.
Agreed 👍🎸🎶🎵😎!
True words. I dont know whos the best but im certain he is one of them :)
And to think he's playing slide with this kind of mastery and precision on a twelve string is mind blowing...the man's a beast, very underrated and in my opinion as a slide player, one of the best in the world.
I saw him live in a small club in Houston years ago. Roy had the joint rockin'. Great guitar player. Great show.
THE best.
Slide on the 12...yes...Blind Willie McTell showed us on record, what this could be. I play this kinda mess myself, on my DeArmond Electric 12. Good Times.
WATCHED THIS SO MANY TIMES THAT I HAVE LOST COUNT. THAT LEFT HAND IS LIKE WATCHING A SPIDER ON A HOT PLATE!!!

Great description!
How have I never heard this song?? What a jam
Seeing him live is amazing......
After years of finding excuses, this finally motivated me to pick up my guitar and sell it.
Jazz, rock, & some country have roots in the blues.
I have seen vai, satch, malmsteen, and i put this guy on their level all day.
Differently discipline but equal mastery of the instrument.
Not a fan of what I consider pointless fret wanking,I like soul and emotion in my players.
Great cover of a song that many have done. This is one of my favorite! This guy is tremendous, only ran across him recently, glad I did! Thanks Mr Roy you da man

This guy just blew my mind. I've been playing for 30 years, and I can't believe I have never heard of him before.
i've watched/listened 100 times because it is the best. i simply can't believe it
This guy is incredible! Can listen to him hours on end! Just love his stuff
Was going to ask for the TABS, but that's not going to help me play this. What a performance. Just Brilliant.
TABS???? Good Lord man, he's all over that fret board like a freak'in machine. Talk about multi-tasking. He's singing, picking, fingering, and sliding on that guitar like he's ringing a bell. If Chuck Berry saw Roy first, Johnny B Goode would have never existed.
That steel side is actually hot with the friction.
Hey man, I think I found some TABS for this. All together, the printout is about the size of the book "War & Peace."
hey, where did you find it?
Please share, I just need to see the basic idea, the rest will be improvisation obviously :)
slide perfection the best ive ever heard
Derek trucks
me too...love it
He's great! I worked with him at Cincy Blues Fest in 2000 and he also played thru a Leslie 122!!!!!
RUclips only needs one video featuring slide guitar - and this is it.
Roy, this is superb guitar playing and the band is tight. Watched this lots of times. Love it. Thanks 👍
When the blues become yellows....and all the other colours....great work, Roy!
2019 and still killin’ it!
If there was such a thing as a test for finger speed I am sure this man would be the world champ. I love the music, the persona and all the cool stuff in every piece he plays.
This is the coolest, most refreshing thing I have heard in such a long time! God I love it!
Same here! You have to hear Andrew Winton!!! Aussie, and man can he slide! especially listen to Fatty Ham Bone, awesome track

Rory Gallegher, Johnny Winter, Muddy Waters, Elmore James...check all these guys out before making any statement!
My God, he was absolutely freaking out on that guitar. I've never heard slide guitar before and this is just mind blowing.
Be sure to watch Joanna Connor do her rendition of this song. Its way over the top - just wild!!
slide on a 12 string resonator-it can't get better-and vocals are wonderful
Every time I listen to a slide guitar blues I imagine myself driving from Texas to Lousiana or to a farther state with sunglasses and smoking like in movies, desert around with some motels or hotels on the road a long highway. Well.. the US fully broke into our hearts by all meaning
such a great blues man.. the voice, the guitar skill, the presence, the feeling... hes got it all... amazing......
Keeping it real. Reminds me of the old blues Masters. That cat can play.
Roy Rogers One of my all-time favorites. Damn good blues man
Seen Roy a few times back in the late 80's at a club in Dearborn called Sully's. He just always blew the doors off the place.
Thanks, great memories of playing Sully's in Dearborn with Roy!
MASTER of the SLIDE GUITAR.
R. R.
Just so cool sounding! Amazing tone, but absolutely one of a kind technique
Seen this great guitar player and his band in a very small venue in upstate New York. Very gracious man allowed me to the dressing room to get other band members autographs. Many years ago but I will never forget the memories
I just hope that I can have a small portion of this talent one day.
Roy Rogers ... YOU ARE FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION!!! AMAZING!!!

Has anyone heard the shortest blues song ever? "Well I didn't wake up this morning" the end.
The Neil Innes version goes. "Well I woke up this mornin'". I think it's on something Monty Python. Check him out, lotsa good stuff.
I did. Composed it and played it myself. Still alive. :-)
LMAO thanks for that!
Mountain Reiver Thats to crazy!
That's the best musician joke ever
Seen Roy three times and in person it is just not believable how good he is.

Olha eu aqui novamente. Continuo assistindo e me maravilhando com esse vídeo. Rogers é um virtuose magnífico.
he makes it look so easy, but this playing is really out of this world.. just keeps going and going with playing a note too much or too little :o
I didn't read all the comments but I didn't see anyone mention that he is picking, plucking, strumming and sliding on 16 strings also. Crisp, clean and clear. GREAT
awsome foot stompin scalp crawlin damn good
I’m so lucky to be related to this dang awesome Slye.

+stubhead Roy uses silk/steels
+stubhead so hes got six electric strings on a 12 string resonator? why not put em on a 6 string resonator?

I been hearing all kinds WB songs. Roy Rogers remains my favorite including the writer RJ.
12 string resonator
a living master. not easy to catch as in past. worth a long drive if that's what it takes to see him.
