Many wanted to see a sequel to World War Hulk, but my hot take on the movie is that it's much better self-contained. In the comic, it was obvious that the Hulk was going to return to earth eventually for marketing reasons, but in this self-contained movie, that's not necessary, the Hulk can have his happy ending. And that's especially significant considering it's the last appearance of the Hulk in this animated movie series, a series in which the character suffers tragedy after tragedy, is manipulated and used, and can't live in peace. I'm not even suggesting an animated continuity between the movies, but something more abstract, and that in that Hulk can have his happy ending satisfies me.
I hate the corporate hacks at Marvel and Disney the more I think about how much potential their animated projects have had and how much they wasted it and mcu has overshadowed it
There are a lot of factors that go into the MCU's failure, it's all about money and politics. And yes, comics have always been political, but they haven't always been so political that it distracts from the story.
Planet Hulk is one of my favourite Marvel stories and I love this movie and how well it adapted and even improved the original Planet Hulk storyline. I really like all the religious themes in this story and seeing Hulk ostracised from Earth from his own friends was so sad and seeing him struggle and go through Hell with countless battles and making new friends on Sakaar and even new love was truly heartwarming to see from the Hulk as he deserves it (even if World War Hulk doesn't let it last for long for Hulk). People truly forget how much pf a complex and nuanced character Hulk is as he represents all of Bruce Banners trauma and emotional restraint that he has to learn to embrace and thats so fascinating to see. Hulk is a character I can greatly relate to and I deeply wish Marvel could go back and show audiences that hes more than a giant smashing machine, and how flawed of a hero he is.

I saw this for the first time ever recently, and I’m amazed how well it’s made. I love how projects outside the MCU make Hulk/Bruce Banner such a complex and compelling. Such a shame stories like these weren’t handled much better. The MCU handles Hulk so poorly, and don’t get me started on She Hulk.
I love how Hulk is either ignoring or sleeping knowing that people are dying a few feet from him (Hulk is giving the middle finger to the hero journey and saying ''yeah, I don't care about these people and just want out of this prison and go find a cave to sleep in''). Hulk is just so fed up with being used that he could care less if Beta Ray Bill is thankful, he started a fight, and he's going to die (the faces of the audience crack me up upon witnessing the unnecessary beating Bill gets, he even gets back up and offers Hulk a free ride home). The spikes were pure body horror (the baby scene still creeps me out to this day)
I feel like this movie captures the motivations of Bruce and Hulk so perfectly. At the base of most storylines Hulk wants to be left alone and Bruce wants a family. The idea that both find the Warbond and loved Caiera is such a perfect symbiosis. Just wish they didn’t just leave the Sakaar to just be a Mad Max ripoff after World War finished. Hulk should’ve just left orbit after finding Meek a traitor.
I really like the Planet Hulk movie as a kid seeing hulk fighting on a weird planet as a gladiator was cool and if you read the comics was pretty tragic how it ended really makes me want to see a what if comic story where hulk gets to be king on planet skaar with his wife and sons. I'm hoping we might get a prequel movie from the mcu showing hulk arriving on skaar, becoming this champion gladiator and meeting ciara since skar is it the mcu now.
Finally a post. I remember watching this with my Grandpa and I thought this movie was terrifying in some parts but I enjoyed it I’m sure you know what the terrifying parts were
20:23 Honestly you could make the same argument about mutants, metahumans, or most superheroes who don't show complete control of their powers. I mean, I would be terrified if I lived among super powered beings who could destroy me and my neighborhood all because of one bad day or something

And I am still disappointed we haven’t seen beta ray bill in action. Even if he did suffer phase 4 syndrome, I wanted to see him in action.
1. The Art-style of this movie is GORGEOUS, my highest 👏to the team behind this project
2. Rick D. Wasserman as Hulk has to be one of THE MOST PERFECT CASTINGS I've ever seen in all marvel media 💚
Planet Hulk is still number 1 on my list of mature and complex comic book movies/shows besides Young Justice, Green Lantern The Animated Series, and the Spider-Verse franchise.
I hate myself for sleeping on this movie for so long! This film made the "Planet Hulk" storyline one of my favorite Hulk stories, & made the Green Scar my favorite version of the Hulk. I'm so pissed we never got a "World War Hulk" sequel for this! That would've been peak!
Maybe it's just me but a scene I'm saddened we never got to see adapted on Screen is when Hulk does the shadow ceremony with Caeira and reveals all of himself to her including Banner.
9:08 Also, Gamora and Rocket can be seen as well in the crowd
This movie fucked me up
Like specifically the fucking zombie spike things
That shit was crazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
@@Browntable I was actually super paranoid about such a thing happening in real life because it was like around 2012 or so when I first watched that movie and I was super paranoid about the end of the world as a whole around that time
YEEESSSS THANK YOU
This was my intro to Beta Ray Bill and remains one of my favorites. You always crush these marvel breakdowns , well done.
Fun fact, Planet Hulk is one of my favorite Marvel stories ever, and it hasn't been dethrowned until 2022 when Knull paid Earth a visit
You mentioned this was the last movie you watched as a kid , well this was my first lol. I remember as kid, Hulk being my DUUDE, cause of the 03 and 08 Hulk Movies and I remember my dad coming home with this movie on DVD and my little brother and i watched this movie over and over and over. I remember ditching Bionicles for Hulk lol . And as I grew up I had no idea there was animated movies before and after this Movie . So yeah this movie WAS my childhood
Watched this movie when i was younger and honestly its one of my favorite peices of hulk media ever, its what introduced me to beta ray bill and got me so interested in ghe charecter, just such a good movie
This movie desserves a world war hulk sequel
I saw this for the first time ever recently, and I’m amazed how well it’s made. I love how projects outside the MCU make Hulk/Bruce Banner such a complex and compelling. Such a shame stories like these weren’t handled much better. The MCU handles Hulk so poorly, and don’t get me started on She Hulk.
Dude. This may be your best video.
Kinda like how they revamped Agent Venom with the GotG. Imagine King hulk humbling enough to ask the avengers to save his world.
I remember watching this with my Grandpa and I thought this movie was terrifying in some parts but I enjoyed it I’m sure you know what the terrifying parts were
This was my favorite lion state film of all time I grew up on This and still get chills when hulk surprises red king
Cant wait for more great content!
I just noticed the grey guy who is also a gladiator, is voiced by Liam O’Brien. Damn.
SAME!
thank you for making this, it’s nice to see hulk get some love 💚
Fun Fact, The robot guards are called Death's Head. Death's Head was a character created my Marvel for their OG Transformers comics
20:23 Honestly you could make the same argument about mutants, metahumans, or most superheroes who don't show complete control of their powers. I mean, I would be terrified if I lived among super powered beings who could destroy me and my neighborhood all because of one bad day or something
The Planet Hulk comic may be one of my favorite stories of all fiction, and this movie was an okay adaptation of it, even if it had to cut some amazing moments, including Miek's character arc, for the sake of time.
When I watched this movie as a kid, I thought Korg was The Thing. Idk why I thought that.
Finally!!!! You finally bless us with the glory that is planet hulk
I love this movie so much. It’s the best Hulk has had outside of the comics.
I fucking loved this movie, Hulk was my jam back then, and holy shit, frickin star lord was in it! I will be so sad once you reviee thor tales of asgard😢
The mcu ruined Hulk and Thor.
Yep
@@Browntable
Thor 5 needs to fully redeem him.
Not really. I mean think about it, the Thor Movies aren’t even consistent enough to say Thor was ruined.
And the Hulk was already rushed in the MCU, as he never got another movie, and one of his storylines was put into the 3rd Thor film… meanwhile his character development gets rushed & concluded off screen in the last two Avengers movies.
@@ShockwaveFPSStudios Yeah, the thor movies before Ragnarok were not the big deal so Ragnarok was a pleasant surprise. As for Hulk, if you just understand that he works a supporting character and not the protagonist is much easier to accept
@@anubusx turned them both into a really bad joke . I take the first 2 thor movies and the 2008 hulk movie any day .
I want Marvel to make a rated R Wolverine vs hulk movie about that one universe we see in the montage sequence of deadpool and wolverine
I was so disappointed they didn’t do that indestructible skull gag, if they did make that wolverine vs hulk movie I want that gag.
I’ve been waiting so long for him to cover this! I loved this movie when I was younger
this movie scared the shit out of me as a kid. the scene with the spiky balls. omg
Can't wait for you to continue your series on the DC animated movies
“They ain’t hear nothing yet”
Gave me chills when I first heard it🫨
This is my introduction to the horse guy and stormbreaker, Since this films was shown every Sunday on our local TV channel (TV 5) Also my first introduction Strange with his film
Evil Red Aang grew up to become Evil Red Lex Luthor
I watched this movie so much as a kid and I'm just now realizing that Hiroim is voiced by Liam O'Brien, man that's a surprise
11:50 If Thor speaks, Rick D. Wasserman would've voiced him besides Hulk in this movie. Can you imagine that?
Miek being your GOAT is crazy
I'll let it pass i finished the video.
22:48 did you forget really got me second guessing
Damn lmao I had just thought today that it had been a long time since a Browntable video 😂 This film is another goated take on the comics we didn't see in live action.
Marvel destroyed this amazing story of Hulk to make that goofy Thor Ragnarok movie 😢
I miss the animated movies from marvel straight to dvd was some good times that I appreciate the more older I get..💯💯💯
The better days of straight to dvd animated comic movies.
If you told me 15 years ago I’d be disappointed by an animated three part adaptation of crisis on infinite earths I would sooner have believed in the 2012 apocalypse.
Wish we got a World war hulk sequel film. Hopefully this story gets adapted in LA one day
Love your reviews and work man👍
Thank you!!
I remember I used to call beta ray bill Horse Thor 😂
The king has returned to grace us with another badass marvel video about a badass hulk movie!
This movie slaps. Weird story, I saw a commercial for this film back in early 2000s but this movie came out late 2000s
No Taika Watiti was harmed during the making of this video
The bigger issue is how the MCU overall has done Hulk dirtier and dirtier with each subsequent appearance
If you’re talking about Design wise, that’s the point. He rips his clothes like every time he’s angry.
@@ShockwaveFPSStudios
I’m talking about how the MCU keeps disgracing the Hulk
@@Sjono I’d say it slowly got worse. I know for a fact we’re not getting a World War Hulk movie because of Smart Hulk. And also because the Planet Hulk characters are now just Thor characters.
LOOOOOL
Hell yeah been waiting for this peak
It’s a really good movie and probably the best version of Ragnarok.
Also the Box DVD Cover goes super hard.
Thor tales of Asgard was the last Marvel animation movie
@@artemisqueen2003 dang I forgot about it.
17:40 Because Bill can channel electricity like Thor since he, in a sense, is also Thor.
I can only assume that Bill is the only one who would survive the disk breaking since he has lightning powers
19:03 Young Red King looks like AANG😂
I watched this movie when I was very, very young. And for a long while after, I just imagined I dreamed it up, it was never talked about, I couldn't really find it. I literally just thought I made the whole thing up
5:18 Hulk almost sounds like Kratos
6:06 Nice The Amazing Spider-Man 2 quote reference.
