I think the main difference between vs Thor and vs Wolverine is that against Wolverine Hulk is a beast but against Thor he was a monster with no banner to reason to who could decimate hordes of literal gods
I hate to admit this, but as a little kid, I didn't like "Hulk vs. Thor" as much as I liked "Vs. Wolverine." But that was only because I never really cared about Thor as much as I did Wolverine. But after the MCU stuff, I have a lot more respect for the Norse God so I went back & rewatched it after all these years, and it's actually pretty good.
I think that might have been partially because this movie didn't really give Thor and Asgard the best showing against the Hulk. Wolverine put up a fight in his movie.

I was always wondering if Bruce could separate him and Hulk, but never thought if he should. With no humanity to keep the monster in check and calm it down, his anger would just keep rising to surpass the gods, as Thor put it "you've brought Ragnorok down apon us all!" And the ending does make me sad, the gods cheering and clamoring Bruce's name, but Bruce gets none of that and is just walking down a highway trying to not get caught by the government, forever a lonely man. Like, Ultimate Avengers and the first MCU Avengers show that you can have Thor lose (or be on a path to losing) while still throwing hands. I'm more of a Wolverine guy as an adult, but it still weirded(/weirds) me out that Wolverine made Hulk bleed so much he would've died or fainted if he had the blood-loss tolerance of a normal human, but Thor couldn't even scratch him. Otherwise, I genuinely love Bruce and Hela's portrayals in this movie. It doesn't take much to outdo late MCU Banner, but the fact he makes the hero sacrifice in this movie does him wonders. Marvel's Hela is fairly accurate to the one from the myths. 14:02 Probably my one of my FAVORITE ADAPTATION OF THOR. although most of his screen time is GETTING THE SNOT BEAT out WITH HIM. He inspires and motivates Bruce that is more than just what channel of the Hulks rage. Even though he sacrifices the one thing he's always wanted... Peace
I appreciate how this movie delves into Bruce's psyche and desires since the Wolverine segment is a straight up Wolverine movie guest starring Hulk. I also enjoy the grandiose introduction given to Asgard since Thor was still considered B-tier and how well they managed to capture the breathtaking locations and the supporting cast of his world. I can't really defend Thor getting dogged on by the Hulk other than "Hulk takes top billing" and Hulk is one of my favorite characters, but even against a mindless, Banner-less Hulk, the fight could've been a bit closer. Something else I appreciate in the Lionsgate films are the end credits where most of them showcase the artwork from the original comics, furthering that whole "bringing the comics to life" aspect and something of a "now go read the comics where these characters hail from."
I loved these movies, back when hulk was this unstoppable force of destruction or when he had the ability to critically think. Like Earths Mightiest Heroes Hulk
It’s incredible that I randomly came across this awesome mini series for the first time as a kid when i found a physical copy of the double feature Hulk VS. Films at the front of a Target checkout aisle with the special cover that changes art when you turn it from side to side.
Hulk was always my favorite character and Bruce Banner had the most characterization in this film than he's ever had in the MCU. This film did an excellent job of showing how he simply wants to have a family with Betty but is doomed to forever remain the Hulk. His sacrifice at the end of the film even though he had all he could want showed why he's a hero, made even sadder as he hikes down a road all alone. As Odin himself says, "This day we honor a hero of Midgard... A mortal who sacrificed everything for a land not his own. This day a human showed the gods what legends are made of... Hail the mortal Bruce Banner!!".
When I saw this for the first time as an adult, I’m just taking in the amazing comic accurate Asgard and its characters. After how the MCU sometimes fumbles with Thor, it’s so fucking nice to see so much respect given to Thor and the 9 realms! And Hulk just continues to be such a compelling character outside the MCU. We need more Marvel comic accurate project that aren’t MCU related too.
@@DANostalgicGamer I’m not sure, Odin didn’t have an eyepatch in EMH, at the end of Hulk vs Thor Loki was dragged into the under ground and there was an EMH tie in comic where the Hulk and the Avengers fought the Elders of the Universe and Thor was mind controlled by them.
7:13, While a lot of attention could be drawn to Hulk's rampage or Thor's quest to save Banner, this Loki and his role as Asgard's main threat (using Amora's own jealousy of Thor and Sif's relationship combined with the Hulk's raw power to aid him) shouldn't be understated either. While people may be used to the more anti-heroic Loki popularized by Tom Hiddleston's portrayal and the current iterations of him in the comics, Ikol (after the death of Kid Loki) m, this is what Loki was originally, a trickster driven insane with jealousy that ultimately sabotages himself, just as mythological Loki is fated to lead to Asgard's destruction again and again in the cycles of Ragnarok. While the film only really pays lip service to the concept of Asgard suffering through cycles of destruction (instead focusing specifically of the cycles of warfare caused by Odin's periodic absences tempting enemies of the realm to attack), the theme of cycles is still intrinsically tied to Thor as a character, the burden he carries being tasked with the safety of the Nine Realms (which the films somewhat tap into for drama primarily during his first three film appearances before it became more focused on adventure and comedy). 12:23, And at the same time, Bruce is trapped in his own destructive cycles because of Hulk, a cycle he gets a glimpse of a way out of, just as Thor is nearly freed from the constant battle and loss he's had to endure for centuries, but in the end both of them, for better or worse, remain trapped in their respective cycles, forced to make peace them, as the only escape either of them may find is ultimately in death (which Hela alludes to when claiming that eventually, when Thor dies, she will have his soul). Bruce and Thor being caught in their own cycles also parallels the previous films use of Hulk and Logan, who are both animalistic monsters consumed by savagery, plagued by violence, but ultimately being a force of positive change by fighting monsters worse than themselves, who go out of their way to harm others, as both Logan and Hulk mostly fight to defend themselves or avenge others.
This movie was fantastic. My only critique is that the Hulk's size kind of shifted throughout the movie. In some scenes, he's within a foot of height between other Asgardians, but in other scenes, he's a giant with Asgardian heads only reaching his waist.
I loved to watch this movie at Disney XD when I was a child, and I really get upset that nobody talked about him at that time. This is a very underrated animation.
I was first introduced to these Hulk Vs movies through one of those old free-to-play flash games Marvel would provide on their websites back in the day. They had an actual side-scrolling Hulk Vs game where you play as Hulk through two levels, each based on….you guessed it, the first and second movies.
After this, you should do a video on Planet Hulk. I remember watching it when I was like, 8-11, and it rocked! Also, Hulk vs Wolverine over Hulk vs Thor, always.
This was a total surprise for me. First time I saw it, I was completely immersed in the atmosphere in Asgard. And the comic accurate characters in this are so different compared to the MCU and I loved it. Gotta love that comic book accurate shit man! They all play off each other so well! And Hulk/Bruce Banner dynamic in this was so emotional, love it! I genuinely have nothing but respect for this film.
The Hulk Vs films are probably my favorite Vs anything because of the fact that, in neither movie, there's nothing happening near the end or the middle that causes the main combatants to put aside their differences and fight together
12:25 true, it’s why while you crushed on the enchantress I took the same route as Thanos and crushed over the death goddess. Hel ain’t a bad place to be, indeed.
You know it's funny I saw this movie on Netflix and wanting more Hulk I saw the one with Lou Ferrigno and Bill Bixby and put two and two together this is literally the 1978 iteration of hulk where he fakes his death and is on the run which makes this sadder in context and funny in a dramatic irony sort of way
I watched both recently after having not seen them ever since I was a kid. Admittedly, I am a bit biased since Thor is one of my favorite Marvel characters, and I think he's so underrated, but I came out thinking Hulk vs Thor was the much better story. I still think Hulk vs Wolverine is much more striking, and that it came off like the writers had a better grasp of the characters that they were using, but that it was a weaker narrative. Hulk vs Thor has a great structure, and displays a still impressive grasp of the characters, which lets them shine in a very taut, intense storyline.
Hel or Hela in actual norse mythology is not a villain. Similar to Hades or Anubis, just because someone is god of death, people automatically start to think they're evil, which is not always the case. Also, during Thor Ragnarok, I was kinda confused why is Hel the main cause of Ragnarok despite the fact that she is not even a part of Ragnarok in the myths. Now that I think of it, movie literally took away all the badass parts of this event. For example: Giant wolf kills Odin, Thor kills giant snake but then dies from his poison, Loki and Heimdal kill each other, giant wolf sting the sun...
The reason why I enjoyed Hulk vs Thor more than vs Wolverine was the former movie was able to show the dynamics between Hulk and Banner. Hulk is many things but one significant thing people forget is that Hulk is a tragedy. Whatever heroic thing he does, he will always be feared and seen as a monster. Whenever things are good, somehow Hulk would make a rampage in a city. How many friends he gets or team he may be affiliated in, he will always be alone. The best thing that could ever happened to Banner, which was captured in the mini series, was death. He was finally at peace. But in the end, Banner still chose the right thing.
on why loki tries to use the hammer simple. He was more than just to defeat him he wants to break and Humiliate him. And using thor own weapon against him is pretty good to do that.
I’m so glad you’ve been covering a lot of these hulk related movies lately. With MCU treating him like a joke he’s lost most respect. This brings light to his better days. Hopefully Spoilers: Redhulks appearance and Hulks cameo in Deadpool means something for the future.
Fun fact, The Hulk Versus movies, Ironman animated movie, Dr strange animated movie, Wolverine and the X-Men, and spectacular Spider-Man were supposed to be connected to Earth's Mightiest heroes. But EMH changed Josh Keaton's voice over Spider-Man to Drake Bell sadly, so you can't tell if spectacular Spider-Man is connected.
"I didn't give a sh*t about Thor!" Me, too! When I bought the DVD, I thought that I wouldn't watch the Thor side but 1 time and that was it... but ohmygawd! It is indeed my favorite of the two! I absolutely loved Hulk beating the tar out of gods that had never dealt with strength like this before! When he started going HAM on Hel, I was all grins!!!!
@@seyio1717 I saw no disrespect. He had dignity, fought in spite of knowing he would lose, and he even considered fighting Hela for Loki. He was just some idiot with an axe.

I miss Marvel made more of these one off animated adaptations. I wish Marvel would go back to that for other storylines that can fit into these short films. Especially the ones that will just never be able to be told in the MCU. I'd kill for an animated adaptation of Gorr the God butcher storyline, or House of M idk whatever storyline you can think of that just wouldn't work in the MCU.
I still hear some of the lines from this movie in my head. This and the 1st thor movie a lil bit actually captured the speech they used especially this movie tho
Decent movie overall but one aspect about it I didn’t like is how one sided they made the fight, Thor and Hulk have gone toe to toe multiple times throughout Marvel history and even at the Hulk strongest Thor has always been able to hold his own, so the idea of Thor being “outclassed” here never sat right with me.

I forgot how rag-dolled and humbled Thor got in this movie 😭😭😭
Hate to do this buttttttt heres a timestamp to where he actually starts covering the movie 3:23 so u can skip the preamble and sponsor
With the success of x men 97 I hope marvel will revive the yosterverse.
The main theme song for this movie is still my favorite piece of music in any Marvel project. It sounds epic and tragic.
17:40 planet hulk is peak fiction
This movie takes place after Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
But strangely before Wolverine and the X-Men

Hulk vs Thor takes place after the episode “Some Assembly Required” of Avengers Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
@@richborn6700Hulk vs Wolverine happens before Wolverine and the X-Men not Hulk vs Thor

Foreshadowing Hulk vs Thor
Ngl loki as an anti-hero kinda ruins his character(atleast comic wise).
Planet Hulk is next let's gooooooooooooooo
This movie was fantastic. My only critique is that the Hulk's size kind of shifted throughout the movie. In some scenes, he's within a foot of height between other Asgardians, but in other scenes, he's a giant with Asgardian heads only reaching his waist.
5:24 so that’s where I remember her from lol
I honestly thought you forgot to cover this movie. It was first hinted at in Hulk vs Wolverine video that came out 6 months ago.
So kudos.
I loved to watch this movie at Disney XD when I was a child, and I really get upset that nobody talked about him at that time. This is a very underrated animation.
Forgotten? This lives rent free in head.
I was first introduced to these Hulk Vs movies through one of those old free-to-play flash games Marvel would provide on their websites back in the day. They had an actual side-scrolling Hulk Vs game where you play as Hulk through two levels, each based on….you guessed it, the first and second movies.
Can’t wait for Planet Hulk !!
Don't let this distract you from the lack of the Tall Girl 2 part 2 video

Hulk vs is one of if not the best adaptation of hulk in media imo.
Loved these movies as a kid, they were cooking😎
I miss when thor was a more serious character
7:40 “He lost that guy, and that guy and whoever that was”
16:17 if I am not mistaken the end credits of the hulk tv show also depicted banner walking the road alone.
12:25 true, it’s why while you crushed on the enchantress I took the same route as Thanos and crushed over the death goddess.
Hel ain’t a bad place to be, indeed.
12:58 He sounded like Chris Hemsworth it was so jarring lol
I enjoyed Hulk vs Thor the most, the idea of Hulk without Banner's restraint was very interesting.
I want a Wolverine vs hulk movie about that one universe we see in the montage sequence of deadpool finding Wolverine that would be awesome man
12:58 Best part.
Just hold heroes at gunpoint and force them to become an avenger for earth.
Accent as well.. *chefs kiss*
YESSS I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO
the goat is back!!
RRAGHHHHHHH
For a long time I didnt even know this film existed. Glad to see u back tho.
You're awesome, man! Your review was hilarious! I hope that you'll do a review of each dc universe original animated movies!
on why loki tries to use the hammer simple. He was more than just to defeat him he wants to break and Humiliate him. And using thor own weapon against him is pretty good to do that.
LOKI! I WOULD HAVE WORDS WITH THEE!!!!! For some reason is one of my favourite lines in movie history
One of the cool things about hulk vs, is that it’s connected to emh and wolverine and the x-men.
I’m so glad you’ve been covering a lot of these hulk related movies lately. With MCU treating him like a joke he’s lost most respect. This brings light to his better days. Hopefully Spoilers:
Redhulks appearance and Hulks cameo in Deadpool means something for the future.
When I was younger I loved both the Hulk VS. movies near equally, I just liked Wolverine more, but I still thought both were awesome.
I grew up watching both of them 😢
This movie and the Hulk vs. Wolverine will never be forgotten. it's part of my childhood memories
I personally like this movie more bc I grew up with this movie as a kid watching it every now get over and over 😂
"I didn't give a sh*t about Thor!" Me, too!
That's why I hate this movie because it was made by hulk fanboys to disrespect Thor .
@@seyio1717 I saw no disrespect. He had dignity, fought in spite of knowing he would lose, and he even considered fighting Hela for Loki. This definitely ain't no "Thor: Ragnarok", nor a "Thor: Love and Thunder". Those movies disrespected Thor to the point that Hemsworth wasn't playing the character anymore. He was just some idiot with an axe.
@@Monkey_Boy9602it’s disrespectful Thor is constantly at the same strength as hulk every since they first met and has beaten the hulk mkre times then the hulk has beaten him in the main continuity
Hulk >>>>>>>>>> Thor
I liked how in the movie, Enchantress actually showed sympathy for Thor despite the bad blood
At the start of the video i thought you was deadpool😂😂😂😂
Hulk vs Wolverine is the goat and pretty much underrated, it really did Deadpool right than in X-Men Origins Wolverine in the same year which is 2009.
i loved that first video and im glad you finally talked about this
I’ve been waiting in an empty room waiting for this specific video with nothing but a glass of my own pee and 12 coffee beans

I was just wondering when this video was coming out considering what you said in the Wolverine video 😅

Hey man, I really like your content i always appreciate seeing it pop up?
This... THIS is the kind of Thor and the kind of Hulk that I love.
I still hear some of the lines from this movie in my head. This and the 1st thor movie a lil bit actually captured the speech they used especially this movie tho
I remember watching this when I was younger and thought it was pretty cool
Decent movie overall but one aspect about it I didn’t like is how one sided they made the fight, Thor and Hulk have gone toe to toe multiple times throughout Marvel history and even at the Hulk strongest Thor has always been able to hold his own, so the idea of Thor being “outclassed” here never sat right with me.
Every job is like that “you go on vacation maybe no job when you come back”
