I think Harrys arc makes a lot of sense. The whole time he wants to “heal” the world with Peter. He gets bitter and jealous when Peter keeps the suit to himself and because of Peter’s discussion with his dad. He feels like he’s fading away and those closest to him don’t really care. This reverses back to his original motivation when he gets the symbiote back and becomes Venom. He’s no longer dying but the symbiote has changed from it’s time with Peter and touching the Knull rock (for lack of a better term). He still wants to heal the world with Peter just in a different more extreme way.
Also the awesome parallels with the our boy Kraven. Because both him and harry share the same motivation in a way. Both are motivated by their mortality and their sickness. But while Kraven accepts his death and tries to at least embrace it to the fullest. Harry is scared and fearful of it. It's especially apparent when Harry attacks peter basically lashing out at a desperate attempt to survive. So when Harry gets the symbiote something that we know is terrible the symbiote uses harry's fear of his mortality to trick him into helping the symbiote rule the planet. And harry while being controlled by venom can't see that the symbiote is evil he's just happy he found an escape from death and wants to spread his "gift" to the world. It's not until the final battle where he sees what the symbiote really is that he stops running from his inevitable death and accepts it seeing as the only way for him to heal the world.

Yeah Peter's time with the symbiote did a great job showing us how badly the goop can control you. Peter wasn't just moody or hateful, he was also manic and delusional.
I gotta say. That moment between Peter and Norman with Harry watching was rough to see. From Harry’s perspective, Norman was essentially giving up on Harry and accepting his fate while trying to replace him with Peter to fill in that son figure in his life. At first, it was off to me cause that moment between Norman and Peter felt like it came out of nowhere and I didn’t get why Harry took offense to it, since him and Peter are like brothers in a way. But on my second play through I fully realized what Norman was doing and what Harry was thinking.

Honestly Kraven in this game is my favourite depiction of the character as he is truly a menace not just to both Spidermen but to all of his villains killing Scorpion, Electro, Shocker and Vulture and his obsession with having a worthy death is a cool direction to take the character that ends with his cathartic death to Venom.
Kraven has always been one of my favourite Spiderman villains and this game definitely did him justice.
I don’t think it did him enough Justice tbh. He was BARELY in the game and was just a catalyst. He didn’t really do much besides have side content dialogue to flesh him out. It wasn’t in the main story and he was just kinda a throwaway character eve tho he’s the main villain. We saw him in the intro, kill scorpion, deply hunters, make lizard, dies by venom.
Also ik you didn’t say this but Peter didn’t really seem angry. We know he tough Peter had it but he wasn’t actually annoyed at anyone really. He was still the cheery happy Peter, he wasn’t really sad besides May and then when he got the black suit, it was just a weird character flip and everyone knew it was the goo and not actual Peter. Only lasted a couple days and was just weird how the black suit didn’t exaggerate already existing personality traits, it just made a whole new personality and it felt off and jarring
He was well done, but it really wasn't all that. It was good, but should've been so much more. He barely shows up during the entire game, almost all of the lore around him is just thrown around at collectables and it really isn't that big of a deal, it's just "wow, his family sucks" or "oooh he killed a few villains offscreen in totally believable ways". When his boss fight came up, even in highest difficulty, he didn't really provide a major threat that makes you think "oh this guy is scary", he's just... annoying. Not to mention the ammount of nerfing they had to do to Peter and buffing on Kraven for the fights to actually last so long. Pretty disappointing, because you can tell Venom just stole the spotlight. Even Doc Ock managed to feel like a bigger villain, who only really shows up once right at the end lol.
@@radrno7 yah I agree! Kraven was here and then he went just as quickly as he came. He just didn’t do much. Maybe a quick boss going with miles losing to Kraven would be cool. And then showing how much stronger Peter is and stuff. But idk 🤷♂️ just wish there was more cause I’ve been waiting for a good Kraven story, seems like I’m still gonna have to wait. Just make him hunt the spiders, problem solved, or use the G serum or just make him even stronger than before. Idk man just odd

Yeah, I wanted to see Kraven grow, as well as others like Lizard and Sandman. Imagine how much better those boss fights would've been if we fought them in their normal form, then they got progressively bigger and harder (pause on that lol) each time.
I felt the bosses were really lackluster, which is not surprising since it's the 3rd time Insomniac does this, but now it's just "seriously? 5 years and that's all you got?", why even bother hyping anymore? I really don't have any hopes for the next installments if they're just gonna keep doing that again and again.
I appreciate the new stuff they added like the wings and the power-ups, but the rest suffers a lot from problems that remain since 2018. There needs to be major improvements, but all I see are fans making excuses for any flaw.

The plot is so thin and dry that it just lacks any drama except is already being invested. Nothings fleshed out. Peter and miles fight was kinda shit. The boss fights just show the lack of combat and innovation w/ insomniac. It’s just square square square square. New mechanic for 2 seconds, back to spamming square.
If you have a chance, go play or watch FF16. That game is what Spider-Man 2 should be tbh. It has good cutscenes, interactive boss fights instead of just watching all the action like insomniac. And they’re all immersive. Spider-Man 2 just feels so forced and does a horrendous job with most of the it tbh. Like venom was cool cause it’s just venom. But harry and venom felt completely separate and when you stop and think about it, the games kinda shit in some cases. Like how peter isn’t mad or shows any emotion before the black suit, then when he gets it, it’s just s weird character switch to edgy peter. So forced. Symbiotic doesn’t change combat at all. Just so much wasted potential
I’m not hyped for the third game whatsoever. It’ll buy it cause i wanna see how the story ends, but I’m gonna be aware that nothing will have actually changed and that’s really sad. Idk how Arkham got away with it tbh but I hope Spider-Man just doesn’t feel bland. They need to improve it a lot

I think aunt May’s quote is used as the theme of Peter’s story but he ends up going about it the wrong way once the symbiote gets hold of him and that’s the point. Instead of balancing what he has he takes the symbiote as an excuse to do more and more
But he doesn’t. It’s 1 mission with lizard and that’s it bruh. It’s weird. Also Peter only really acts like that during the black suit. He isn’t angry or upset or anything without the black suit in the beginning of the game. There also ain’t enough missions with Peter balancing work with Kraven and other stuff. That could actually aggravate Peter and make his relationship with MJ start being rocky and then it’ll make the Scream stuff more interesting and hard to hear. Shouldn’t the black suit just exaggerate already pre existing feelings not just create new ones? When Peter got the black suit I was just a random character switch into edgy peter and everyone knew it. I hope I explained it well enough.

@@M61322 but all of what you said is just there. What I mean is Peter doesn’t actually show he’s mad at any of this does he? He never shows frustration of the mortgage, his job, mays death, mjs new job, etc. yeah he does get angry at lizard for what kraven has done, but that’s kinda it. He isn’t mad at anyone until the symbiote, then it’s just a sudden and jarring character change and everyone knows it cause Peter would never act like that. The story tries to save face and rush the symbiote change and stuff thru cutscenes here n there, but it falls flat since none of those stuff you mentioned actually upset Peter. He just shrugs it off and is happy the whole time, even when miles almost lets people die Peter doesnt reprimand him at all. Makes the miles and Peter fight more weird cause they don’t have a conflict in this game. Peter is just corrupted and miles knows it.

The player is just along for the ride and just has to by in to Peter changing in such a short amount of time. EMF being destroyed shOulda devastated Peter and shown him BEING UPSET and actually angry to where the symbiote just makes Peter more upset cause kravens the one that blew it up
I saved the Howard mission until the end. I’d seen some clips of people flying around with pigeons and thought “Oh, that looks like a nice fun way to tour the city. I think I’ll do that one last, and cap my experience off with something nice and calming.” The end of it hit me like a truck. Once I started the mission, I could kinda see it coming, but that didn’t make it any less heartbreaking when he didn’t respond to that last call, or when I saw that ambulance.
i feel like they set up Harry’s motivations to become Venom so well. feeling overshadowed in his relationship with his father by Peter and also feeling given up on; Peter wanting to keep the symbiote for himself because of the “improvements” it makes to his life and thus being abandoned by his best friend despite everything Harry has done to make Peter’s dreams come true. and then the symbiote feeling rejected from Peter despite giving him the power, abilities, and the release of self-control to handle Spidey problems in a more “efficient” manner all culminating into Harry and the symbiote becoming Venom. it was all set up so well, and then they kinda just made that build-up so underwhelming when Venom still didn’t really want to hurt Peter in the end. like why would Venom attack MJ and Peter, but still be like “we want u with us in this”? although it does kind make sense that both Harry and the symbiote were still latched onto this love for Peter, and i think that’s interesting, but i wish there would’ve been a point where they both just let go of their love for Peter completely and just dedicated themselves to destroying everything related to Peter and Miles. i think what this Venom needed at the end of the day was a bigger emphasis on the personal vendetta against both Spider-Men rather than just a goo monster that wants to “heal the world” by making everyone else goo monsters

In addition to that, Harry being a dying man desperate to leave some kind of impact on the world, to not die unfulfilled and beaten by his illness serves as a fitting parallel to Kraven’s ambition to die by a worthy opponent no matter how many people suffer or die in his pursuit.
Harry’s goal starts out as purely positive, the antithesis of Kraven’s selfish and bloodthirsty ones, but being left by the wayside by an infected Peter before reconnecting with the more openly manipulative Venom turns him into the very predator Kraven sought and his killing of Kraven is were his once peaceful and harmless goal to make an impact on the world before his death become twisted into a nightmare for the rest of the city as he begins infesting it with symbiotes under Venom’s influence.
But unlike Otto, Harry genuinely did still have a benevolent heart left in him, not one so completely tainted by ego, insecurity or bitterness that he would be unable to realize the harm he was causing or what he was being turned into by the well-intentioned but misguided and unstable Venom with the help of others just as Miles did for Peter and Peter did for MJ.
It really is the narrative inverse of the first game to have Harry voluntarily elect to lose his alien life support system in order to protect the city and his friends from his mistakes all despite knowing it would mean his death while Otto only ever cared about settling his grudge with Norman and preserving his freedom through his tentacles even if the entire city was claimed by a plague he unleashed.
I like that they didn't give Kraven a personal connection to Peter like they did with Ock and Venom. He's just a psychotic asshole that came out of nowhere and that keeps Venom defeating him from feeling like Peter was robbed of a victory

My biggest issue with the story is the same I had with God of War: Ragnarok; an amazing sequel overall, the gameplay is so much more improved, but the story just... didn't land the same way?
I did like and enjoy the story, but it didn't make me cry like the first game. I feel like in both of these sequels, in trying to go for epic scale, it lost a lot of more personal stuff that made it really connect with you.
I noticed only more recently that we really don't get that many "Peter" moments, or "Miles" moments. I'm sure some people say they're boring, but I think those smaller, more intimate moments really helped you connect to the characters and gave the story time to develop its themes. We have a little of that on Conie Island and some good scenes with Miles, but it feels like as soon as Act 1 is done we're almost always either in the suit making plans or quick-change to civilian clothes for a short talk. We don't get time as Peter in the lab, we don't go to MJ's to cook dinner, we don't get to check on May at FEAST. As much as this game improves on feeling like Spider-Man, it might have focused a little too much on the Spider this time and not the Man.

I think why Harry’s mad at Peter is because he’s gonna die. I mean, imagine dying and your best friend was keeping the only thing that could save you and your father starts neglecting you. It’s almost as if his whole life was falling apart and he was becoming desperate.
7:35, The “balance” the characters achieve that allows them to thwart Venom can be summed up in the inclusion of Anti-Venom, which specifically required Martin Li acting on his desire to atone for his crimes after accepting his guilt, Miles being willing to accept Martin despite not forgiving his crimes and the two of them working together to convert the symbiote infecting Peter into a weapon against the other symbiotes.
Peter also allows himself to share more in the responsibility he holds by having Miles take over for him while he sorts out his civilian life.
As much as I loved the symbiote and how it affected Peter, I don't think Venom himself was characterized correctly.
In the comics, Venom was originally driven by two things: A warped desire to protect the innocent, and the desire to kill Spider-Man over the combination of Eddie's rage and the symbiote's grief from being rejected by Peter.
In this game? He feels more like modern-day Carnage bonded with Harry Osborn.
I think Venom was changed because of the Knull stone. Hence why he gets Knulls wings and his mark appears on other symbiotes he makes
I mean this venom does have a warped desire to help people to just manifests in a different way as Harry being the host. Wanted to heal the world, not just treat the symptoms ruining it but cure it altogether. The symbiote distorts that desire, it keeps Harry alive and made him stronger and “better” then he was without it, in its mind making everyone like them is healing the world. As for its resentment to Peter the symbiote shows it wanted to be with Peter but it’s less resentful at him and moreso at Miles for tearing it and Pete apart.
He definitely doesn’t feel like carnage too me, he’s actually trying to accomplish a goal unlike carnage whose just crazy, it’s just not entirely faithful too the comics because it’s not fucking eddie and they’re pulling from a lot of venom lore and have to skew characterization for it to fit Harry’s story. Which was somewhat undercooked but it is there, him feeling his father is too controlling of his life and resenting Pete out of a misplaced but understandable resentment of how Norman favors peter. Last thing you want to hear when you’re dying is that your father loves your smarter cooler best friend like a son when you’re dying and that best friend has the one thing that could keep him alive.

Venom was a Serial Killer hellbent on killing Spider-Man and everyone in the area. He became a Lethal Protector after he wanted to be Good, and making a Deal with Spider-Man to go far from NYC as possible.
I feel like this game could have been a lot better if they had more hours in it. If it was 30-40 hours they could fit a lot more into the story and draw it out.
I def think Mysterio shouldn’t have been a side mission and the third act could’ve been stretched a bit more for sure. Venom went by too quick
I didnt take it that Venom was trying to kill Peter. Hes trying to weaken him to convert him and have him join them.
Harrys turn does sorta just happen at first but on my second playthrough i thought more about it. Think of it in terms of dealing with addiction to the suit. Hes slowly dying and angry (like someone going through withdrawals) but keeps being told by Peter that they are gonna get the suit back onto him. Then he doesnt hear from Peter for days until he comes back saying he needs to destroy the suit.
Ive heard enough about addition to know that the hope of getting your "next fix" can sometime be juuuuuust enough to hold you back from the worst coming out. But the second you are cut off for real your true, desperate, colors show.
Even the way they show him getting the suit back on is like immediate relief. And at that point the suit is angry that Peter rejected it just as it was syncing and hitting their prime, and Harry felt betrayed by his friend.
Once he has it back it goes back to wanting to have Peter join him and he becomes obsessed out of love for his friend.
I agree that it should have been that Harry and Venom dislike Miles and love Peter. If we have a few moments of Peter ditching Harry for Miles AND/OR a mission where Miles and Harry team up and it becomes a little like one upping each other, then it could justify some of the conversation between the 2 at the end. The most we get is the 1 phone call they have with each other and, if you took your time around the city, a random encounter or 2 with him fighting crime in the street. Which the few times I had that happen they were pretty cordial to each other.
ALSO (OFF TOPIC) we see by the end of the game that Harry hears symbiotes voice as his mother. When I played it the second time I realized he said that the whole time in the tank he could hear his mothers voice telling him he needs to heal the world. The symbiote has had at least a year or so attaching to Harry and slowly learning about him and a way to spread the symbiote over the world.

The game delivered on everything a sequel should imo. Genuinely an amazing story tho it does get a bit rushed. They removed a few gameplay elements but the overall structure has remained the same & the swinging is just so much fun. Just a great video!
Ngl, during the final fight when you first had to play as MJ, I was thinking “alright, guess I gotta power through this to get to the good spidey stuff.” Then it decided to just fully utilize the Venom take over bit to give me a taste of Resident Evil and Dead Space, which was just a brilliant move. Just to use Venom for horror in general in this game when in MJ’s shoes was brilliant, Im just now remembering the horror sequence earlier in the game.
I feel like the games story should’ve been more centred on Harry’s and kravens similar storylines, but then venom wouldn’t have had time to develop. They had a lot on their plate, and handled it really well
They should've left Venom to another game. It's 'Spider-Man 3' all over again. Why is it so hard for Sony to understand symbiote Spider-Man doesn't mean Venom has to show up right after?

Idk man, Harry Osborn getting angry at Peter keeping the Suit that was keeping him alive is quite understandable.
If I had Medicine that made me feel Great Everytime I had to take it for my Chronic Disease, and my Best Friend took it and hogged it, I would be mad too.

I love this game its Amazing and is probably my favorite Spider-Man game in a very long and a great follow up to both Spider-men games which is so awesome and tons of fun in my opinion.

Fall damage isn't even something to get mad at in this game it's an option and it's funny in a lot of moments and I like that peter became anti venom I hope he gets more powerful with anti venom and like maybe in the 3rd game his surge mode makes him big and more buff and look like anti venom i always wanted to see spiderman become anti venom the game is great but i really want to know why new game plus and mission replay wasn't added day 1

Exactly. There's no need to retire Peter or anything. Spider-Man is a part of him as a person. He'll swing in that suit to his last breath. Nothing will keep him from doing that, no job, no family, nothing. Why? Because with great power, there must also come great responsability. That's his life and he lives by it everyday. No matter what, Peter will ALWAYS be Spider-Man.

I think the first game has a more cohesive and just better story in general than this game. However, everything else about this game is drastically improved from the first two entries that I believe this is my favorite Insomniac Marvel game so far. 9/10 from me, and that's with having a weaker story from the first game, in my opinion.

I think I played this game in one of the most satisfying possible ways, and I will always love the experience I had with it. Whenever I found side quests, I completed them, and whenever side quests were highlighted all over the map, I completed them, and so I got upgraded at good points able to handle stuff adequately, and have fun with all my upgrades by the end, and I developed both characters really well ready for the ending. My experience with the game was 10/10.

Dude I can see why harry is pissed. He finally gets to exist outside of a lab again, but his life support dumps him and Peter is being a complete ass about it, harry doesn't know that the suit changes your mind. He sees his best friend take it and go on a power trip, while hes dying.

Cool video however I think in regards to Harry what you hear from him as Venom is less so Harry but more of the symbiote and its motivations. The symbiote hates Peter and is dumping this on Harry and twisting the idea of healing the world to what the symbiote wants which is to not be rejected by peter, to not be alone anymore. I love this game so much shit hit everytime. However i will slightly agree on how the credits need to be hyped or closed out a little better 😅😂
Marvel comic editors refuses to let Peter be married/happy cause it's too "old" and they want peter to be "relatable"

The best way to compared Insomniac Spiderman 1 with Spiderman 2 is that its almost similiar when you compared the Frieza Saga with the Cell Saga from DBZ where the former is defenetly the game changer on their own field and have a story that is impactfull till this day, while the later (even though it's a good follow up to the previous story with a bigger and a more higher stakes) doesn't have the same ammount of weight when compared to what came before it but still managed to be good enough to be considered a worthy sequell.

I truly believe that because of the side content in spiderman 1 and 2 they choose to not properly end the game and relsove it, juxtaposed to to spiderman miles morales that was a full but smaller story with not a lot of side content so it could properly end

Can you review the ultimate spiderman tv show, its very much a comidic interpretation of the the character that doesn't take itself seriously it does have serious moments from time to time, I feel like this show gets alot of hate just go watch it with an open mind and expect it to be lightharded that way you won't be disappointed kinda like how the Lego batman movie is a comidic interpretation of batman that doesn't take itself seriously
Honestly I think they should have chosen between The Venom stuff or Kraven stuff for this Game. I don’t think Venom works very well as an Intermediary plot point in a Kraven story and vice Versa. I know it’s based on Kraven’s last hunt but the game doesn’t take itself as seriously and has far too many characters to tell that story properly. They should have saved one for the next game

I loved the game (excluding the MJ parts) up to the part where Kraven was killed. Everything just felt rushed after that and I found it so weird how the game keeps talking about forgiveness, but they don't redeem Venom somehow, like the only solution the game sees to deal with Venom is to straight up kill him, even before he truly becomes Venom. And making Venom take over NYC just felt rushed and honestly stupid; Venom is best when he is just an antagonist for Peter, lemme explain; Venom in the comic books hasn't been as a straight up villain for about 20 years now, he's an antihero. But why is he still considered and antagonist for Peter? Well, because the lethal protector (AKA Venom) has issues Spider-Man rejecting him twice and his bonding to Eddie Brock (who blames Spider-Man for his life going down the toilet, it's a very long story, just look up Sin-Eater [I think that's the serial killer's name...]) turns that feeling of abandonment into hatred for Spider-Man. He often hurts and bothers Peter later on in the comics after their famed confrontation and they'd actually team-up from time to time when a big threat came to New York. (example Carnage)
I think the best version of Venom in video games comes from the PS1 Spider-Man game; he's both menacing and absolutely hilarious. (Surf the web! Surf the web!) He and Peter even team-up to take on Doc Ock and Carnage.
So, yeah... Insomniac's take on my favorite ooey gooey antihero was straight-up disappointing for me (look at how they talked about Venom in their interviews to see why) and probably (personality wise, not voice and design wise) one of the worst Venoms I've seen outside of comics. Yeah, Spider-Man 3's is still the worst, but to be fair, he was so bad because Raimi didn't want him in the film and he was forced by Sony to shove him in; Insomniac's kinda had a whole game made around him.
I think this can best be explained by the fact that the game's theme isn't "Forgiveness" so much as it is "Second Chances"
The Game starts with Sandman getting ripped from his second life, a life he'd earned by living in secret with his daughter, by Kraven.
When Tombstone got his second chance, he went straight, and moved on with his life.
when Mr. Negative got his second chance, he helped rescue Miles, and saved Peter from his own darkness.
When Kraven got his second chance, saved by Miles, He immediately went back on his BS and paid the ultimate price for it.
Venom was Harry's Second Chance at life, and just like when Harry tried to found the Emily-May Foundation, Venom is going to Heal the World- Damn the consequences.
and Miles, Miles represents Peter's Second Chance, a chance to properly balance the responsibilities of his remarkable parker intellect, and the powers of Spider-Man, a chance he's taking by going out to "Be Peter Parker for awhile."

I would see Harry as Venom's first chance, considering that's when he truly showed up and had the most character. (which isn't saying much)
I have a feeling if it weren't for that meteorite with Knull's mark on it, he wouldn't be trying to take over the world. (Knull is the god-like being that created symbiotes and used them to conquer planets btw)
Considering that symbiotes can't die unless they choose to, Venom may come back and (hopefully) he'll be the lethal protector he deserves to be.

I don't give 2 sh!ts about a flag, I care about things that matter, and just throwing text walls everywhere doesn't make for a story that matters.
That's extra content for those that want to know extra stuff, not for important information. Why? Because it's boring. Show, don't tell. If you skip all of that, Kraven shows up, kills Scorpion and Peter, fights Peter with the symbiote and gets killed by Venom. That's it.
All the story around his family is just told through dialogue, which could've been given by letting us fight them ourselves, and the reasoning behind Kraven's purpose doesn't go much beyond from what he spells out for you so it's pretty pointless other than "oh so this confirms he's dying".
They could've built a lot more on the Kravinoff, like the vodka part, letting us know what else they've been doing outside of hunting to scare russians around the world.
Sony should have given Insomniac another year of development time...

With more story for miles ( longer story in general) and Peter should have had the symbiote longer
Obviously Eddie Brock is missing which is a L but taking it for what it was, it could have worked if Peter kept the suit longer

Peter retiring and having Miles take over is actually good. It gives Peter a BREAK! After 10 years he deserves a good partner and now he can focus on himself for a change. ❤
I think it's a Bad Choice to have Peter retire from Spider-Man. It doesn't fit his character.
Peter became Spider-Man in honour of Uncle Ben, refused to back away from Spider-Man even when Every Other Hero told him he doesn't have to.
He is Spider-Man, not because some divine obligation, but because he chose to enact the Gift of his Powers to ensure no one else has to suffer. Something he loves doing.
In character, it would eat Peter alive if he wasn't Spider-Man. This is also why Spider-Man: No More is 1 Issue and only 1 issue.
Making Peter Retire isn't right, but having a break makes more sense for his character.
@@baligong3592 well there’s where you are wrong. Ben Reilly took over for Pete so Pete could have a normal life and was okay with it too. And it’s not as if he won’t return. Obviously he will. In the second game he complains how tired he is even early on in the story. He’s sacrificed so much for his city so it’s time for him to have a break.

No one really liked Ben Reilly for years, or the storyline [Clone Saga] that created him.
Don't get me wrong, I see the Game's Storyline of having Peter take a break more of a Reason to make a Spider-Man: Miles Morales 2, and then bringing Peter back for Insomniac Spider-Man 3.
He sacrifices so much for the City who never wanted him at first, because not only is it the right thing, but because he loves it. Spider-Man is like a Dessert to the City. He's not needed because there's a buffet of other heroes around, but he stands as his own for something you appreciate being around more than the rest.
