Lessons Pete learned in the MCU movies:
Homecoming: Being a Hero isn't based on how "professional" you are, it's about your deeds and actions.
Far From Home: Trust in yourself and trust the faith your friends have in you.
No Way Home: With great power, there must also come great responsibility.

@@mindandbodymuscle5345 While admittedly Hulk's character arc is shaky, especially in his only solo outing in the MCU, the same can't be said of Iron Man and Strange. They both literally learn lessons throughout their movies. From Tony becoming less selfish, less destructive, and less dependant on his armor throughout just his solo movies. To Strange learning to give up control and not see everything as revolving around himself. Virtually every character in the MCU learns a lesson about themselves and others in their solo and group outings. The same is true of Spidey. If you missed all the lessons they learned maybe you should rewatch things with fresh eyes.

10:01 There is an interview back in 2017, when homecoming came out. The interviewer asked Jon Watts about why they made this version so young, and Jon Watts went deeper on the answer. He said that the weight and responsibility of being Spider-Man is an important Part of the character, which is why he didn't want to use it that early in the story, and he wanted to start from a place of enthusiasm where things are easier for peter. So yeah, the reason why homecoming and FFH lack the emotional weight is because Jon Watts chose to save the power and responsibility theme for the third movie. It's true that most of the things in NWH were not planned from the beginning, but that doesn't mean that they didn't understand the character throughout the previous movies.

This film built on the themes of the first two MCU Spider-Man films while also paving way for a fresh take that felt believable. They introduced classic Spider-Man themes while also staying true to their overall take on the MCU iteration. It really positions the Home trilogy as an extended origin for Holland’s Spider-Man, and I am very interested to see where he goes. I loved that the ending shows Peter still eagerly willing to be a hero even after losing everything. That’s the essence of Spider-Man: be a hero even when times are hard not just when they’re easy. I have so much anticipation for the next trilogy.

I think they were trying to convey the "great power great responsibility" lesson to MCU Spidey in two different contexts or levels. The first ( hypothetically from Ben) being the thing about his responsibility of using his power to make his neighborhood better which sets him off to start his hero journey... and the second (from May) talking about the deeper level of responsibility that actually comes with being a hero, thus making him realize that his responsibility is not only about using his power to help others, but also making tough choices and sacrifices especially when he makes a mistake.
That being said, if they go this route, it's very likely that the Freshman Year animated series will feature Ben's lecture to Peter about power and responsibility.

While it definitely wasn't the literal plan from the beginning, I think Jon Watts had always planned the shift in tone. While Spider-Man's best stories are heavy and emotional, his early high school years in the 60s were very simple and sitcom-esque like these films are. I love the way Jon Watts took inspiration from John Hughes to make the Home trilogy reminiscent of the fun of those early comics while teaching Peter the lessons he needs to learn for when he no longer has the "training wheels" of the tech. And after NWH, Watts has clearly pulled off the tonal transition from those fun high school years to the raw emotional Peter Parker stories (just like how those 60s comics changed) featuring the quintessential Spider-Man who uses those lessons to be the best independent hero he can be.

i like the movies, but idk i disagree a bit. I feel like the point of Ditko and Lee making such a young, independent superhero at a time where all teenage fictional characters were sidekicks at best was to enhance the story of growing up. i feel like the high school setting in the MCU movies were very weak and superficial, as if 30 year olds wrote what high school is like (they sucked in the other spiderman movies too but high school and youth wasnt that much of a focus in the other movies). Like there was not that much growing up if that makes sense. Spectacular Spider-Man did every element that home trilogy tried to do in the first 2 movies but way better

MCU spiderman was never broken if anything it proved my theory on his narrative being in the prestages of him making a transition into Spider-Man. Ever since homecoming people alot of people never really understood what this spiderman was about it made sense because he was a kid learning to be a hero with no responsibility until he had to learn responsibility. That was the point of his introduction ever since homecoming the "no way home" movie fully proved my theory that his immaturity was clearly intentional and that is what makes this spiderman a little bit better than the other two imo. We never really got to see Peter grow into Spider-Man unlike the other films this kid has the actual potential to be the best cinematic spiderman depending on how they handle him going forward imo.

I agree with all of this... to a point. I'm not so sure I'm on board with the idea of keeping him on his own. I don't think he should be part of big teams like the Avengers outside of events like Infinity War and Endgame since the entire point of Parker is that he's down there on the ground most of the time, but a LOT of what defined classic Spidey as he got older was that he knew everyone. And I do mean EVERYONE. He knew the X-Men, he knew the Avengers, he knew the Fantastic Four, crossed paths with the likes of the Punisher, had regular team ups with Daredevil - at some point, if you lived in the Marvel universe and you were a hero or a villain you crossed paths with him to the point where bars that villains frequented had running pools on how long new guys would last against Spidey - in the famous words of one, "they never win".
I don't think such team ups should be permanent, "they work together on every problem" type deals. But to isolate him entirely is a bad call in my book, especially now that he's learned these lessons and after another movie or two as he gets older, especially with the animated Freshman series. As he grew more experienced Parker started becoming something of a regular mentor to younger heroes, and while he's not there yet that's something I don't want to see lost.
Steve Rogers might've been the soul of the Marvel universe, but Peter Parker has always been its heart - and to leave him so isolated and so disconnected from everyone else somewhat defeats the point of that as time goes on.

To me, it feels that in this current iteration of spider-man, instead of being a wrestler initially, he becomes a superhero because that's what is cool and popular nowadays, while back in the days of early spider-man wrstlers were cool and popular and rich, but in the MCU, it's the Tony Stark and the Avengers. It's after chasing the fame and excitment of being a superhero, that he loses a loved one (in the MCU, May, and it's then when he understands that with great power there must also come great responsibility.)

The biggest ask I had for the movie, was that we'd finally see a Spidey who stands on his own two feet with confidence. Instead of being Iron Man's student, instead of being one of the avengers in training, instead of trying to do what his friends or aunt or avengers or Nick Fury or Tony would want him to do, but actually finding his own footing. The way he chose to start from square one, made his own suit for the first time at the end and went to carry on was that moment and I couldn't have been happier.
Also the confidence that he had when telling Happy that whatever May did will carry on was exactly the type of confidence I was hoping for him to find. After all, all throughout this trilogy he always seemed to have a lot of hesitation. Hell, him going directly against Strange and doing HIS thing was a fantastic part of that too.
Really loved the movie way more than I thought I even possibly could. So happily surprised!

I do hope that his solo films feel like solo films going forward but I also hope that the connected element of the MCU isn’t lost. I do hope he still gets involved with the avengers and still has cameos from relevant characters in his movies etc but obviously these shouldn’t overshadow the whole character.
I think things like having him bring the symbiote to Reed Richards for help figuring out what it is or meeting up with daredevil briefly etc are fairly important aspects of keeping his MCU films connected but are also ways of still making them Peter stories.

    • @garrettcanavan9308
      @garrettcanavan9308 2 года назад +22

@Alexander Capanov see in my opinion if things aren’t going to connect and team ups aren’t going to happen then there is no point in the character being in the MCU. The whole point of the MCU is that in a way it mirrors the comics where you would frequently have small cross overs and connective tissue in solo stories and then larger team up events. Obviously in comics it stems from a desire to get you to buy other comics which isn’t as important in the MCU though.
I think NWH showed that a solo Spider-Man film can still have small cameos without hurting his solo story. I can totally see where people maybe thought the links were too much in homecoming and far from home but no way home balances it really well imo.
I also sort of disagree with your point about the best MCU bits being more contained. Ironman 1 is good sure but 1. There wasn’t really much to link it too. 2. It wasn’t good because it was contained it was good because it was a well made film. A small cameo from Bruce Banner or something wouldn’t have ruined the film. Daredevil is a weird one because again it’s just well made content but it’s not really comparable to the rest of the MCU and for the longest time was more MCU adjacent than actual MCU.
I would actually argue that some of the best parts of the MCU are the connected bits. Avengers 1, winter soldier, the whole infinity saga plot line etc. In fact I think the infinity saga plot line is a decent example of the connectivity being done very well with how the stones were spread out across all 3 phases of the MCU.
I don’t think every Spider-Man movie needs to have him having a massive team up with loads of characters but I think having small moments or cameos that keep it connected are important. Things like having him swing past the Baxter building, name drop the hulk, ask the fantastic 4 for help analysing the Symbiote etc are ways that the MCU can play a small role in solo Spider-Man stories while ensuring they are still his stories.

@Alexander Capanov Consequences in Spider-Man: Homecoming
Spider-Man losing the Stark internship due to putting everyone's life in danger on the ferry. Parker learning that he needs to take down Vulture because what he's doing is dangerous to the people of New York and not because he wants to impress or join the superhero's he looks up to. He also ruins his relationship with Liz after making the hard choice to do what's right over what's easy.
Consequences in Spider-Man: Far From Home
Parker giving up the power bestowed on him by hero's who came before due to feeling like a poor replacement for said hero's before realising the truth that being Spider-Man is enough. Mysterio, a man who can manipulate the truth (truth being the main theme Spider-Man: Far From Home), is literally a consequence for Peter's insecurities and it takes the ENTIRE MOVIE for him to overcome said consequences.
If you think there are no consequences try watching them again and paying attention.

I wouldn’t say it ‘fixed’ him as is don’t think it was broken in the first place, but it more delves into the core of Spider-Man and what it means to be a hero. Peter always had support from the people around him when he was Spider-Man, he had 2 mentors that he could talk to and looked out for him. I think in this movie it showed what happens to peter when all his mentors are stripped away and it’s his fault. Like he lost his first mentor in endgame, but it wasn’t his fault. In this movie it is his fault and he has to deal with it. I like that now he has to stand in his own the whole time, but we got to see that the guy lessons he learned and the love he received from his mentors have shaped him and allowed him to be the man he is at the end.
Not gonna pretend like this was the plan. It wasn’t but I’m happy the went this route

I never felt there was anything that needed fixing. The character was always developing and learning. And in my opinion he always felt more like a real person as opposed to a comic book character like the previous 2 did.
And before anybody starts yelling at me for that bit, I love Tobie McGuire as Spider-Man.
But both previous versions of Spider-Man felt more like a movie of a comic book character instead of that character living their life as a story unfolds if that makes any sense. Holland just felt more real when he showed panic, fear, grief, rage, or even joy, excitement, and and happiness.

Personally, I think Jon Watt's trilogy has been the most faithful to the Lee-Ditko run for three main reasons:
    1) Ben Parker wasn't a central figure for Spiderman's birth, rather his death was a catalyst for Spiderman to learn responsibility. He never said the "With Great Power.." line, it was a faceless yellow box. So it has nothing to do with who Ben was as a character, it could have been anyone else close to Peter and would have had the same effect on him. Hell, in the first annual Peter says he feels "partially responsible sometimes" for Uncle Ben's death.
    2) The initial tone for the Lee-Ditko run was a carefree, comedic world throught out the high school years for Peter, it doesn't get serious and sad till "If This Be My Destiny" right as he enters college and ushers in the Lee-Romita run which syncs up perfectly with the college trilogy in the works for Tom Holland.
    3) Actually Peter DID look up to a famous celebrity superhero growing up, Human Torch. He quoted him, was inspired by him just like Stark in the MCU. Until they became frenemies of course.

I do hope he builds his own tech and suits as I said before without the resources of Stark Industries. The reason is because Peter has always been self-taught and independent to create his own gadgets and equipment with whatever he has to make sure he becomes a better Spider-Man. It would make sense going into his College trilogy and him wanting his profession to be in science is a perfect direction for him to take.
Yes I do want his life to be a mess, I do want him depressed but I do hope one day he does rejoin the Avengers and reconnect with MJ and Ned one day, not because he wants to but because he feels obligated to do so for the greater good. I want him to be an Avenger if it’s his decision and it’s to the right thing while also fighting his own battles. MJ also had this look on her face when Peter leaves the coffee shop and it’s a clear indication that she will figure out who he is again and I like that.
There’s also talk of Peter in his adult years will make his own company called "Parker Industries" like in the comics.I know that sounds a lot like him following in Tony’s footsteps but it would be perfect for him to leave behind a legacy as "Peter" instead of just what he leaves as Spider-Man. (This would be perfect if he they’re were to set up his death BTW.)

I disagree respectfully I don’t think he was broken but he had little problems such as the stark tech and many mentors or people around him such as happy, Tony, fury. As well as aunt may In ffh really wasn’t bothered with her nephew risking her life and being Spider-Man and many people really didn’t bond with her character despite her being in multiple mcu films. Look I understand it’s the mcu so of course people like Tony and other figures are going to interact with Peter. But the thing people had a problem with is the amount of stark tech as well as not creating something of his own with Tony being there. The vulture and mysterio all had problems with Tony or the avengers not really Peter, and only saw him as an obstacle in their way. The drones that mysterio used was all Tony stark technology. Look toms peter was good but he always had people around him and for many others including me he didn’t feel like the SPIDER-MAN we know he can be which therefore comes the complaints about the iteration and the movies. It’s cool if you think that him becoming Spider-Man was planned from the start but they took SPECIFICALLY what many fans had problems with from toms Spider-Man and fixed it greatly and him becoming the Spider-Man we know he can be.

@@slashbash6486 1. I don’t understand the criticism about Stark’s involvement with various MCU stories considering he’s literally the focal point of the MCU. He’s the first “superhero” of that universe (Cap doesn’t count since he was part of the military and was frozen for the most of the time). Almost every big Avengers’ villain has something to do with Tony or knows of him. The star of the MCU is Ironman.
2.) Almost none of Spider-Man’s villains in the movies were personal to him. In Spider-Man 1, Green Goblin wanted to take revenge on the Oscorp directors for firing him and the rival companies for taking his contracts. Spider-Man got in his way at the festival and they became enemies from there. In Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man becomes Doc Ock’s enemy after he shut down the fusion machine against Doc’s wishes. Spider-Man 3 Sandman was just trying to get money for his daughter and Spider-Man kept stopping him. The only villain who had a personal problem with Peter was Eddie/Venom. In the TASM series Dr. Connors didn’t have personal beef with Peter. And in TASM 2, Electro and Green Goblin had personal beefs with Peter.
      3. Peter literally creates his webshooters and the goggles that allow him to focus his senses by himself. Again, Tony Stark was a prominent figure in that universe so why wouldn’t someone close to him be using his tech? It’s kinda like complaining about Arkham Asylum using WayneTech-Bruce Wayne’s the biggest tech manufacturer in the city, of course they’d use his stuff. But as for the mentors, I’m pretty sure they drew inspiration from the Ultimate comics where Peter interacts with a bunch of other big time heroes who serve as mentor figures. Who Spider-Man interacts with and in what capacity doesn’t determine how “Spider-Man” he is.

    • @slashbash6486
      @slashbash6486 2 года назад

@@kenny6643 I understand your point about Tony since he’s the main figure within the mcu, and many of avengers problems stems with Tony, like civil war and age of ultron. What many people don’t like or understand is why Tony has to revolve around what is suppose to be SPIDER-MANs villains, examples such as mysterio and vulture, and why even though in homecoming he shows he doesn’t need stark tech or he’s “nothing without the suit” still uses stark tech as well as things Tony gave him like Edith for example before he gave it to mysterio . What many people want is a Spider-Man which doesn’t have stark tech or Tony revolving around him in some way shape or form since it’s a Spider-Man movie. Personally I don’t necessarily hate his involvement but for Spider-Man it’s about becoming his own hero in which he does in homecoming but it’s the thing such as stark tech, or being in Tony’s shadow as the next iron man are the main issues people have with this iteration in which they specifically fixed in nwh

Sure he wants to be a big hero like Tony, but Tony isn’t what inspired him to become a hero. The same goes with the villains-it really doesn’t matter if their motivations are related to Stark because now they’re Spider-Man’s problem since Peter decided to try and stop them just like with other versions of the character. In Spectacular Spider-Man, many of the villains were going after other targets until Spider-Man interfered and stop them. The first episode has Vulture going after Norman for stealing his tech and Spider-Man stopping him. And that’s ultimately my point, why be so hung up about the villains’ motivations and how they became Spider-Man’s rogues when iterations like Spectacular (who’s been praises for its depictions of the villains) don’t get hate?

I honestly think that was always more or less the plan, the first MCU movies on spiderman are a pretty faithful adaptations of the tone from the start of the comics, which doesn't really reflect how the character is most of the time, in the comics peter spent only about a year in high school, and during the beginning, his stories were kinda like a romcom, the bigger focus on responsibility only started when he entered adult life in college (and it was there that most of the iconic cast like Gwen, Harry, and MJ get introduced),
people just forget about that since most adaptations fuse his more iconic traits and plots with his origin and high school, now that I see that my theory about them adapting the more romcom-like tone of the beginning of the comics before transitioning to the more down on his luck and responsible petter was actually right I can appreciate the initial take on peter by the MCU a lot more

@@SUKADIK4 Bro its only my opinion if you don't like it its okay.
1-Is good fanservice even if they show the other spider-man this was to develop the Tom spider-man to. Make the ultimate sacriface.
2-Bro spider-man is one of the smart people in marvel and they didn't even want to kill each other, but its 9kat if you didn't like this.
3-Its not about getting to MIT because in the end is just to cure the villains, the MIT part fucked up in the end because Peter is gonna have go to other college.
4- The pacimg of this movie I didn't like it in the beggining, after the Bridge the movie goes good to me.
5-They point of curing the villains was 2: 1-the message spider-man is one of the heroes that put others before himself(it was actually pretty much cool to instead of seeing all the villains of Tobey dying like in his trilogy except for sand man ) , and 2- we don't actually see if they gonna die they pretty much created a other time lines.
And my final point obviously the movie isn not perfect at all there are plot holes and things they never answer: When the lizard ask if he die they don't answer that, Electro didn't even knew Peter was spider-man but he teleported anyway, we never see dying sand Man and lizard(They even show sand man helping spider-man in the beggining), in the end is you just go by logic the movies are not perfect and that is okay for me, If doctor strange caused a festival to be erased with the spell , it could also make thanos forget his purpose or erase events that harm the world. In the end I like NWH for the Ultimate sacrifice that represent all the good about spider-man they put others before himself, even the spider-man of Tobey and andrew even fail to there villains(except lizard and sand man), NWH is about second chances for me, Tom prove he really is spider-man after making the ultimate sacriface, Andrew save MJ when he could not save Gwen, Tobey finally help in cure one of his villains bro in his trilogy all his villains die except sand man, The Aunt May of Tom that didn't do much in the movies before finally did help in this movie even if she die she always believe she did the right thing if you don't like the movies I respect your opinion, but I still like the movie I know is not perfect but still I liked for what it represent "Spider-man is a Heroe that put others before himself" thar represent spider-man . And don't try to find logic in everything let me explain with that logic in spider-man 2(one of the best if not the best of spider-man) Otto should not last against spider-man because he was a normal human he just have the arms but with one punch of spider-man he should be KO. But like I say I still like the movie but I respect your opinion if you didn't like it because its not perfect

I also got the impression that some inspiration was drawn from the PS4 game in which Peter has to make a gut wrenching choice, though in this case it wasn't as a result of his choice that Aunt May died.
Another possible reference to the game is her signature line "When You Help Someone, You Help Everyone" appearing on the headstone.

For me personally it was never an option to complain about the MCU Peter not having big stakes in his solo movies. The focus was strongly on him being just a kid and not knowing what to do in a world filled with superheroes. To me it was always clear that we're watching him grow up over the course of more than just one origin movie and I didn't have any doubt that we'd get a satisfying "start" to his real journey as a full Spider-Man (and this was even confirmed by John Watts back in 2017). I never expected No way home to be the way it is though and I absolutely love it. I'm honestly still in shock. I don't think it was planned right from the beginning but it worked out beautifully. He's learnt from his past mistakes, to become the true Spider-Man. He pushed through his person problems and helps everyone in need. Peter Parker always reminds me to be a better person. “Whenever Peter Parker is sad, I am happy”, yes on paper, yes for movies (AKA the actual subject of the video), but it is such a problem in the comics and the idea of Spider-Man as a whole, because the character in the last decade or so is just him being kicked in the balls as soon as he gets back up, and have something taken from him each time. Especially bad since he's the old guard to characters like Miles and Gwen, but apparently still can't even retain his diplomas, let alone jobs and relationships!
The "The True Spider-Man MUST be a dirt poor student, pining for a girl out of his reach" idea was spread by the movies, because they were basing themselves of Spider-Man's starting point, not his status quo. When Raimi's movie first came out, Peter had graduated from college for 30 years and had been married for 15 years of the character's 40 years existence! You made great points about Tobey's Peter bringing wisdom, but my favorite part with him isn't with the MCU Peter. It's him kindly telling Andrew Garfield's version that yes, he is in a relationship, that it's been difficult, but worth it in the end. Their responsibility isn't martyrdom, they are people and their life doesn't always take away, it can also give. The Peter Parker from Raimiverse even seems to have achieved the status quo his Classic counterpart had in the 2000's.
Peter having his life torn appart do make for great one-off stories, as this movie masterfully demonstrate. I would also point to the PS4 game as an example. But those are, by design and contraint of their medium, forced to tell THE most dramatic moment of this character's life. Spider-Man is much more than his strength in adversity when his whole life is on fire. In fact, I'd even argue those are only the second best kind of stories Spider-Man has to offer. The truly best ones are about how he makes a difference in the life of ordinary peoples, the stories about the people who would be gone without him stopping petty crimes, and how humane his life mission is.
In fact, I'd even say that while the "fixing" of Spider-Man in No Way Home was perfect to bring us to a familiar version of Spider-Man, Far From Home had a much better solution to fix the character OVERALL, not just in the movies. It solve the discrepancy of Peter being a peer to the genius of Reed Richards and Tony Stark, yet his only notable inventions are... a pair of bracers and sticky goo? Of having the respect of Captain America, being a brother to the Fantastic Four, but also being considered a creep who can only afford to repair his costume by hand? The story made a great point of Peter not ready to be "the next Iron Man" or even a next gen Avenger, but the idea of him being eligible was more coherent than the current mainstream status quo.
"Sad Peter = Happy Readers" work for isolated stories like the movie, but it's such a reductive way to see Spider-Man. The #1 Most Popular character in Marvel's History (yes, really!) has more depth than that, and so much more to offer than just "let's make him miserable."

The main issue I have with the MCU Spidey is his lack of secret identity. I'm fine with every other character being publicly known, but Spidey really needs that mask, it's part of Spider-Man at the core of the character.
With out it, it strips away his everyman persona and daily struggles that make him so interesting and fun. I'm really glad they reset that for this movie as I really do feel it was a mistake to have so many people know who he was. And now with the events that have transpired Peter would have certainly learn his lesson to keep his secret better guarded.

I agree. While the public identity works with Iron Man and Cap, who are already public figures in the first place because one is super rich and the other is a war hero, it doesn't logically work with the everyman that is Spider-Man. He NEEDS to have his identity kept secret because of real consequences and struggles. Him having a public persona runs contrary to what made Spidey relatable in the first place.
