    Looks to me (and felt like when I just used it) that the thermite is not working as intended. The pre explosion burn effect is supposed to melt through the armor, and then the ending explosion should do big damage to the area it just melted through. The idea being that if you get them to land perfectly on say, a Hulk’s face, it should melt through, then explode on the Hulk’s now breached faceplate, and kill it.

      since the grenade pistol was added i fell in love with the stun grenades. you can easily stun a hulk, walk around and kill it from behind with nade pistol. also does crazy damage to tank weakspots and is great at dealing with bases and bug holes.

      90% of the stuff in the new war bond / update is dog shit. The new resupply upgrade for the ship doesnt work either

      Well the adjudicator sucks, the thermite grenade is bad, but the eruptor and grenade pistol work pretty well, haven’t tried the explosive crossbow yet though

    To help the thermite grenade stick you must hold the button for like 2 seconds and you'll see spikes deploy from the grenade... then throw. Otherwise they will bounce off

    PSA: You can quick swap between the eruptor and any weapon (best with pistols) to skip the bolt animation... I learned this from a japanese helldiver shooting the eruptor suspiciously fast XD

      In other works it should be a semi, cocking only on magazine reload. No wonder they wanted people who know what they are doing to design guns for them, they suck! I'll stick to fighting the enemy with my cup of Liber-tea.

    This should either do significantly more damage than the impact grenade (since it has no AOE) or it should be capable of shredding through heavy armor. It would be incredible if it could expose a charger's leg in 1 nade, or take out a hulks leg for example.

      Since it have semi explosion at the end....would it be cool if it stick to heavy armor unit...burn them off...explosion will spread out fire to nearby enemies

      Heavy armor shred is exactly what I expected the thermite to do. I'm really hoping it's just bugged and that is what they do with it.

      I’m gunna be real with you, being able to shred the armour off a charger’s leg is pointless when we can all one shot them with like 5 different weapons now.

    Def needs a buff. If I'm giving up the area damage of impacts/incindearies, the crowd control of stuns, and the concealment of smokes, it should at LEAST kill a charger in 1 headshot/strip its leg armor, and kill a hulk when stuck to its back

    The inconsistency of these grenades makes me think they are heavily bugged. Here's hoping that's the case, because this was such a cool concept. I guess we'll just have to wait a week or two to know for sure

    Impact nade can 2-3 tap tanks and 1 tap towers if you hit their vents. Primary reason I've been running impact nades for so long. Being able to stick the side of a tank is going to be more consistent for me and given the huge amount of heavy devestators existing now I think this puts it squarely as my new Bot Nade option. Though I will admit a good reason this is doable is because we now have the grenade pistol which will just function as the replacement for the other half of the things I used impact nades for.
    Also, might consider it on Bugs purely for the BT interaction. I really don't like having to rely on a non ammo based strategem to deal with heavy units so this plus Quasar or RR/EAT will likely be a combo going forward since again, nade pistol can be used for closing holes. I would like to see them get buffed so they can strip armor though. As lowering the AV while nice is too niche imo.

    Also, here's hoping they buff them because i was really hyped for them and this is really underwhelming/disappointing.
    I think they should remove the (already tiny) blast from the end and massively increase the DoT. Make them dedicated heavy armor penetrators, and make them GOOD at it, at the cost of anything else. I think that would be a balanced tradeoff.

    Yeah impacts can two shot tanks if you hit side, back and top of turrent. Termite should atleast one shot heat sink.

      putting a thermite reaction on a HEAT SINK is literally the most lethal thing you can do to a machine lol, these nades are bugged or aka not working as intended, i refuse to believe this was their intended strength , it's just going to be another patch with a comment like "we have recalled newly requisitioned Thermite prototype grenades meant for testing and have properly shipped out replacements of the REAL DEAL! put them to use soldier!"

      I think its situational at best and niche normally. You are kinda just better off running a stun grenade and flank them or just throw an impact grenade at the correct spot with the plethora of other utilities impact has.

      @@connman8d617 Impacts will 2-shot a tank if it hits the heat sink - And since it's radius is pretty large, hitting the side or top of the turret counts.

    I really hope these aren't intended for medium armor targets only, because a single impact grenade can instakill most medium armor enemies

    The buff for thermite would be to shred armor. As in one thermite would shred charger armor AFTER is blows up which is a fair buff since it takes awhile for it to explode

    The second charger (that took 6 grenades) was the behemoth variant with additional armor. You can tell by it's elongated horn and tusks. Still needs significant buffs though...

    The eruptor has a glitch that ragdolls you if something may be behind you and make u take explosive damage. Thermite needs to strip heavy armor completely off and create weak points to shoot.

    If they want to make this grenade useable they need to make 1 nade strip medium armor and 2 or 3 strip heavy armor. If it's not going to kill stuff it should at leadt be a consistent way to mitigate armor

      Why would you waste 3 nakes to strip heavy armor when there are things like railcannon strike at EAT. This thing is useless no matter how you look at it. Only one should be required for taking out a hulk, no more than that!

    it should be noted, that from what i can see, it seems that thermite burn damage is done as fire dot damage, which does not stack. This means that if you stick multiple thermites to an opponent at the same time, the damage from the burn may not stack.

    how many thermites does it take to pop a bile titans green guts? that would be nice to know since often times when i find myself with everything else on cooldown i end up running underneath them to at least disable their spewing attack by popping the sacks until i have something to deal with them

      Yea it feels very underwhelming compare to impact grenade now. Being a "single target" grenade, I was expecting it to one/two shot most elite enemies

    4:30 aren’t the chargers in the specific mission to hunt chargers, a different type? Do they have similar health pools because not only are they differently named but their armor is differnet. I’ve noticed I can just kill one with a magazine or two from the Uzi by shooting its leg, so I’m not entirely sure if using those is accurate? I could be wrong?

    I hope they buff it soon... The concept of the grenade is good and it could be real fun if combined with the engineer armour to get 6 of them. Would create a new tactical combat role :-)

    Being able to set and forget 3 on a tank and kill it is actually really impressive to me. Same with the hulks. Maybe more a grenade for the Automatons than the Terminids then?

      Until you get 3 tanks and 2 hulks on you at once, and need to use 15 grenades to kill them

      I think this might be useful against bots if you're running autocannon - the only thing you can't deal with is a tank staring straight at you, so just chuck a few thermites at it

    I'm going to stick to my incendiary/impact grenades. Impact for things like stryders, incendiary for cutting off/weaking enemies advance.
    Edit: I heard someone say on a different video that the thermite grenade lowers enemy armour quality, as in heavy gets degraded to high medium, did you by any chance find something to support this.

    Since it's a DOT weapon I think this grenade damage is probably bugged, just like every other DOT weapon.

    I feel like any enemy that gets hit with it should also be burning throughout its hit. Perhaps it could be the same but be constantly stripping armor or something.
    Maybe these will make sense against the the Illuminate if they are shielded and these works around shields.

    Not sure what the armor pen is on the grenades, but chargers armor is bugged and decreases in a few spots when they are charging so that can also cause them to take less damage to kill

    I wonder if it does any considerable amount of "durability" damage, where it burns away armor and allows small arms fire to penetrate through.

    apart from a general buff it needs I think it should take out fabricators with a hit anywhere like the Spear. That is exactly the sort of thing Thermite is used for IRL. Similarly it should absolutely 1 shot the Mortars and AA emplacements.

    One way they could buff this and balance all the grenades in general is to change the amount you can carry per grenade type.

    You can actually kill BT's with impact nades. Granted, the few times I've pulled it off the BT's armor was damaged

    I mainly face automations and I love the thermite so far. Helps pick up for the quasars recharge. Hit a tank in the turret then toss 2 thermites and its done. Whiff your killshot on a hulk? Thermite it and its done. It's just picky about where on the target it'll stick to.

      or u just hit with an impact nade after the shot, or just hide until the next quasar shot is ready and set another shot, cause its nearly the same time that the nade needs anyway to do the damage. in both cases u save nades with the same result and thats the point...the new nade is pointless

    just did some testing cuz I was curious and IF you can land throws on a charger leg (optimally one of the front ones) it Feels like each thermite reduces the armor cat of the leg by one-ish
    with one thermite and ensuring I hit the very small dmg decal on the leg left by it with an eruptor (without shrapnel at this time in case this changes) I was getting red hit markers (tho it could be finicky)
    with two thermite on the same leg at around the same time I was able to pen the leg with a stalwart (again it helped to aim for the dmg decal but sometimes it didn't matter and I could pen it anywhere)
    hope this helps and that it wasn't due to some really odd interaction during the time period I was testing
    also here's hoping we get a buff for this grenade in the future regardless

      no, judging by the way it explodes after the thermite burns reminds me of rainbow six siege, it works like a thermite charge in that game and at the end the explosion is supposed to dislodge the armor from the surface, i am pretty sure this is a bug. it will probably burrn and then pop the armor off so you can shoot the exposed part, super helpful but also requires some teamwork and makes total sense.

    Thermites should take out anything with a heatsink in one grenade. It should excel at taking out structures, equipment and heavy vehicles if you apply them to key locations.

    I find it useful with the laser cannon and guard dog laser combo, throw it and then immediately start firing. Makes for some nasty dps even though you can't see shit

    I feel like these should have little to no AoE, but deal damage close to an EAT to a single target. As it stands, its garbage add hoard clear, and not good enough to bring as a dedicated anti-tank tool.

    It certainly seems like a unique set of uses and could use some strength to make it better. The impact grenade is probably also too strong considering its versatility. It's pretty clearly the best choice in almost every scenario.

      I don't agree at all, impact grenades are much harder to get into fabricators or nests quickly and you run the very real risk, especially with bugs, of having something close the gap too quickly and blow yourself up. You also lose the versatility of being able to throw the grenade at your feet and bait enemies onto it. I say all this as someone who runs impacts, they have very large flaws you need to account for.

      @@brettnause5411 "Harder" doesn't necessarily mean hard. With practice it's pretty easy to get impacts into nests and factories. I don't think the edge cases of grenade use outweigh the benefit of being able to take out so many types of enemies quickly and accurately. It seems impractical that they would do the same damage as a 'high explosive' grenade while the frag is almost half that. It should probably sit somewhere in between them at like 325.       @@brettnause5411 one shotting spewers, insta closing nests, insta destroying eggs, and killing groups of hunters are all cases that i use it for regularly. nothing else can do what it does at the speed it does it against bugs imo.

      I think impacts are fine. I would however buff the basic grenade to have more radius. And the frag grenade to have even more than that.

    You can always land an accurate throw with a Thermite grenade. You just have to hold it briefly in your hands first so the spikes emerge. In the video around you mentioning the inaccuracy you are just quick throwing it so the spikes are not out to allow a proper stick.

    Played a few rounds with it on Helldive and I just couldn't find a situation where another tool wasn't a better option. Tanks or turrets? One shot from the Quasar into the heatsink, followed up by a single tap by the Scorcher or Eruptor. I really hope they get a buff, because they're probably the worst grenade right now..

    That 7 thermites looks like it was without destroying the bile titan's sacs, so if you destroy those first they would probably be a lot less, but it would probably still just be more effective to use support weapons or a stratagem anyways

    Yeah it was really bad i noticed it was a stinker when the grenade bounced off striders for some reason i just had no luck getting them to stick, im still holding out hope for a breaching charge of some kind, like a C4 you can place and then click to detonate, imagine rigging the whole map in stealth and then letting it blow at the end

    It needs to penetrate heavy armor, and deal substantially more damage than impact to have a niche. It should blow off charger and titan armor, and also thermite irl involves combustion, so this nade should deal a burning dot.
    Like you said, it's just worse than impact right now, feels bad man

    It's like the weapons were barely tested before release. The thermite doesn't melt armor, the Eruptor makes high difficulty so much easier it feels like I'm cheating

      Nah, they increased devastators spawns and then released a weapon that could easily deal with them. It makes difficulty 9 a bit easier but it's still a challenge.

    I think it's supposed to be used in unison with your primary.
    Like in a situation where you don't have your strategems or support ammo and have to use your primary.
    I mean the damage is literly 100. Idk how people saw that and thought wow this a heavy 1 shotter with 100 damage. That's 2 liberator bullets worth.
    Except it does true damage cause of the penetration. When you shoot armor with your primary you only do 10% of your true damage. So if it takes 3 mags to shoot a charger butt normally I think the thermite is supposed to wittle him down so it only takes like 1 and a half mag.
    For example, skewers die from a full lib mag. Lib does 55 per bullet. 10% is 5 dmg bullets. 5 x a mag of 50? That's 250 damage, so assume that's their max hp. They also die from impact grenade which does 300. If you throw a thermite now you'll only need 150 worth of damage (25 less bullets, aka half mag) cause therm does 100% of the 100 dmg.
    I've been using it with that in mind and it's been cool and fun. I hardly ever use grenades to kill heavies anyways but with this now I do and it saves me a railstrike, 110 rocket pod, etc cause I can just shoot my way with the help of the thermite to weaken the enemy. Not supposed to be my 1 shotter.

    This to me looks like the thermite grenade is bugged. My expectation was that this was supposed to break off armor, and maybe do a little damage. Like you start with throwing this at a charger's face, wait for it to burn the armor away, and then blast their face. But if it's just a burning sticky thing, that's rather disappointing...

    I think the thermite kills heavy devastators with one is because it is damaging the backpack as it has a lower hp than the body

    its funny to me that the stun grenade is better at dealing with hulks and chargers by stunlocking them and hitting their weakspot, with the pas-1 i was consistently able to do it with 2 stun nades

    It seems like the current iteration misses the power fantasy of a chunky single target destroyer.
    Arrowhead should have clear direction what to do to buff these to being a good enough option to bring in your load out.
    I think a decent start would be:
    1 for anything less than charger and hulk
    1-3 for charger/hulk depending on if you hit weak spots and if you don’t it should strip armor to make small arms fire do damage or crit
    3-5 for bile titans/tanks and similar weakspot and armor stripping mechanics
    I’m less sure about heavy unit breakpoints but for anything beneath charger/hulk, this thing neeeds to be a one shot

    They are bugged. They are affected by the dot bug. If you are not the host of a match they won't do damage at all. It is the same old bug which makes napalm, gas, the new fire buff ship upgrade and the incendiary shotgun unusable.

    So basically it’s only use to killing hulks and tanks,
    Or 2 divers equipped with them can bring down a Titan with near perfect throw accuracy
    I discovered that eagle 110m rocket pods will 1 shot tanks. They will also 1 shot titans, but that is rare, normally 2.
    3 thermites with 8 seconds of waiting, or 1 Eagle strike…
    The only real use is when the team is overrun by hulks,
    Respawn, toss 3, dead hulk. Repeat.

    in my experience termite have a only one good spot to be used and its with the rail gun, u can damage heavy ennemi with some shoot then launch termite and it blow charger and titan with 1 or 2 of them with this combo, exact same thing with tanks and bruiser

      also the possibility that the grenade does not stick on all surfaces and it's a quirky attention to detail , kinda like a throwing knife bouncing off when you the target with anything other than the blade and bounces.

    It's probably bugged but it just isn't strong enough for how slow it is, I think even if the armor melt effect works it might need half the fuse time or something. Also is the sticking really is that inconsistent there's no way it's reliable enough to use the armor melting to accomplish anything

      it says in the description of the upgrade that it only increases stratagem fire damage by 25% so probably not (though it is odd that they don't just make all fire consistent since not doing so is going to be confusing).

    In my opinion they should rework this grenade into an absolute dmg monster. I think you should be able to kill a bile titan if you throw all four on one.
    Alternatively, whey could make it into a debuff weapon that removes armor rating.

    Honestly the thermite grenades need to have stronger DOT Component to n heavy armor. So that one full charge significantly degrades the armor so that Medium penetration weapons rip through unit afterwards.
    The biggest issue in Helldivers imho is you have a very small limited set of tools to deal with Heavy armor.
    Using stratagems is fine it’s just at the higher difficulties the numbers are too great to rely primarily on Stratgems,
