I just love watching Ted's eyes go blank when MacNamera grabs him. It's so spooky and terrifying to see this guy who's been almost cartionishly expressive throughout the entire show just...well, die. Joey acted that so well for me. And then he just seamlessly blends into the background, the only hint at who he used to be being his work attire while everyone else is in uniform. Plus, I honestly think this is the best Jeff sounds in the entire show, imo. This whole scene is just *chef's kiss*
@@Lady_Ginnie I agree!
Yes! Joey Richter has increased his acting skills so much since AVPM, it amazes me. In _Spies are Forever_ he played 3 characters who were so different you would think they were portrayed by separate actors. In _Black Friday_ he was seriously scary.
One of my favourite thing is Jeff's smug eyes as he drops the first chorus and says that line. Like, he's still in character, but you can tell that he's proud of the cheeky political message there ghfjdkl
One of my favourite things about this scene is that they care more about General Macnamara who they had just met being infected than Ted
"Does he not see how in sync they are?" Of course they are marching in sync. They are the U.S. Army. That's kinda their thing.
hahah they were pretty spastic earlier when they attacked ted. But I see your point lol
This is where I love Jeff's voice the most tbh, he's so haunting in this
@@kilian-one-l I might have to agree Kilian!
AMERICA 🦅🦅🦅🦅 WHAT THE HELL IS A KILOMETER ‼️‼️‼️‼️

I hate how I read the eagle emojis instantly as the iconic USA eagle sfx
@@Phiwipuss which is ironically the sound of a falcon
It's cool that you noticed that this version of McNamara is more consistent with the version in Black Friday. My personal opinion is that it was done on purpose to show the change in him once he is infected. Also, interesting is the fact that the pre-infected version hinted that he was not into musicals; however, in Black Friday he immediately uses music/song to communicate to the President. His original voice (lispy sound) is gone and he sounds more like the infected John we get here who, also, communicates through song. Just an observation that is interesting to think about.
@@krissmith800 interesting!!
I will point out that even Paul sang at the end of Black Friday
@@roughfoxy101 This is true. The question is then, why. Again, I have a thought of so on a possibility, but to avoid spoilers for NT episodes not seen yet, I will keep mum for now.
@@krissmith800 My theory is because this timeline of Hatchetfield belongs to Pokotho. This entire timeline revolved around "The Singular Voice" and "Musicals." I think when the timeline shattered, this timeline was set up, specifically, to emulate the plot of a Musical and this version of Paul was altered to be the "Protagonist" of said Musical and, thus, the Antagonist to Pokotho aka "The Singular Voice." And the natural Antagonist to a being who is all about vocal music is someone who hates vocal music aka "The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals." But in every other timeline, Paul is just Paul so while Paul may, inherently, not be interested in Musicals, he also doesn't hate them like THIS Paul. Hence why he's fine breaking out into song at the end of Black Friday.
And before anyone corrects me, don't. I omitted that intentionally to avoid NT spoilers. Despite that, I think this explanation still applies, even to that.
@@roughfoxy101 that's because that timeline is naturally a musical. This one isn't.
this song sits so well in jeff’s register, it sounds so nice compared to when he sings higher imo. the next song is my absolute favorite and it has character work that i think you’ll really enjoy!
also i really hope nerdy prudes must die is on your list after you finish off tgwdlm, it’s easily one of starkid’s best shows if you ask me. a lot of amazing voices and (of course) a very entertaining storyline. pretty much every song in it is a bop and everyone consistently kills it.
Hope youre here for Nerdy Prudes. it Starts THIS WEEK!
you should watch the next two in the same video because Let him come is a nothing song, and it is a situation similar to Cup of Roasted/Poisoned Coffee
I second this!
Same!
I love that you're such a big theater nerd, and have worked on so many productions that beyond just notes on music and vocals, you also talk about the writing and the set design and lighting and costuming, etc. I've seen this show a lot and you're pointing out the things that I may have noticed subconsciously but never fully considered. Can't wait for your reaction to the next song, it's a very climactic point in the show both in terms of character arcs, narrative, and emotional stakes.
Awe this comment means so much to me! I have such a passion for the theater and love that I get to share it with you guys! Thanks for singing with me!
This is a great musical to watch for a/ as a Jeff enthusiast. He has so many solos/ leads and silly parts in this!!!✨🙌😂💕
@@Nonameheretosee for reals
It's kind of interesting actually, that the characters with the most songs in this musical aren't any of the main cast, so Mariah and Jeff get leads for the most songs since they play all of the side characters.
Probably one of my favorite Jeff performances, particularly the ending. It's simple but gives me chills every time.
this song sits soooo well in Jeffs voice, always thought it sounded so beautiful
It's not popular with fandom I think but it's one of my TGWDM's favorites
Such a great start to the Hatchetfield Series! hope youre enjoying! Thanks for singing with me!
next is my favorite song in the Starkid universe!! let's goo
@@nutelasaur9453 wow!!
This is my favorite song in this musical to be honest, it just sounds so good! Its so smooth and menacing! And it is in Jeff's lower range, which, asuch as i love his high notes, it always sounds so good when he sings lower!
I do love this song, especially the beginning of it. But my favourite is without contest the final song
The harmonies and lyrics of this song give me chills.
Only 1 song before my favourite song from the musical
I keep thinking that Let It Out is next but it's actually Let Him Come LMAO I know people have said to react to them together and I know you already watched the whole thing so I'm just praying they're in the same vid 🙏🙏
@@Moth_IsHere1769 I’m pretty sure they are! I only have 2 more videos that I’m editing but 3 songs left!
I love this song. One of my top favorites from this musical. With the beginning, I felt frankly disappointed in Jeff's vocals. When I saw another solo song, I was internally rolling my eyes, but this song was so good. It was in his range. No extreme jumps. It was like how he sung in older musicals. So I'm glad that everybody appreciates it as much as I do.
MERICA‼️🇺🇸🦅
haha yess love this song, def hear the simmilarity between infected john in this and his bf counterpart and I feel like maybe infected john ended up inspiring black friday john a bit more than his first scene did. Also could be to do with the 'scene' that is set for each apocalypse too, while its not fully confirmed we do know this town has many timelens and works as a sort of 'stage' for different creatures both ancient and foul to trial run their own ideal world, and maybe Wiggly just needed something more theatrical to work with from the start while the metor is happy to create that wholecloth
@@unicornclutter yes intriguing thoughts!
The next song is tied with another as my favorite! Can't wait for the next reaction
you should totally listen to the cast recording of this song, the harmonies come out way nicer imo
@@oliveparmesan3725 been listening to the album on repeat ngl! It’s kinda magical!
@singwithashley This is one of my favorite songs lyrics-wise. I've spent years deciphering them because they're so layered and interesting. This and Made in America are both the "THIS IS THE THEME" song in the show. Jeff loves to do that. Specifically "We're great again, no answers to be found," the ending line that Jeff sings so beautifully. Obviously the song is a commentary on MAGA, but I've always thought that the ending line is about how the "great" that they want to get back isn't actually good. This musical is about conformity whereas Black Friday is about consumerism and capitalism. This song is a poem about how that version of "great" is just conformity. And we need diversity in our lives. When we're "great again" there will be no one questioning the status quo. Dissent is essential to dismantling oppression. So if we're "great again," there will be "no answers to be found" because no one will be questioning anything.
One of the most beautiful lines of any of their shows.
This is such a good song and I loved your analysis of it!
I just found your page and this is the first video I am watching. So I'm not sure if you've also watched other StarKid productions, but Nerdy Prudes Must Die is a personal favorite of mine and I love the music and the harmonies in that show ❤
@@NCH217 Then stick around and catch up! Nerdy Prudes is my next series! Starting soon! Head to my live RIGHT NOW for some Nightmare Time series fun!
And welcome! So glad you’re here! Sing soon!
In case anyone has any doubts, this song is a satire on MAGA (Make America Great Again), Trump's slogan. Jeff's really enjoying the joke 5:19
Although I love the commentary, I feel the song and choreography are kind of monotonous (as they have to be to show the soldiers have been turned into zombies) so this might be my least favorite number.
This is one of my favourite numbers lol (something truly amazing about starkid is that everyone reacts so differently to each show they do and take different things away from them)
The building tension as the parts layer over each other, jeff’s serious and deep preacher-like tone, paul and emma panicking and the driving drums and woah riff just transfix me.
@@probablynotapelican5808 I admit you and Ashley point out some things I didn't notice. I'll have to watch it again
Sad to see the next two as there will be some stuff wrong. But the singer that had problems with the next song shared how they went through it and how they got better for black friday in a video of them going over GHDLM
I‘m suspectimg you‘ll love this song, cause Jeff is singing! And you‘re right! He does kimda give off more Black Friday vibes here.
Sadly this is one of my least favourites. I don‘t know why, but it‘s kinda boring, and maybe since I‘m not American I don‘t appreciate the meta commentary of MAGA as much as you guys would.
hahaha to each their own! Thanks for singing with me anyway! I enjoy the "moment of silence" (almost lol) a calm resting moment. Jeffs beautiful ending kills me. so breathtaking! but this song definitely took a chill pill in comparison to others!
Something me and my sistere noticed is that the songs get lower and lower in their register, because the play itself gets darker and darker.
I have no clue if that was actually Jeff and the Langs' plan, but it is really interesting
@@QuEnA2oo6 oooo dark mood equals dark tone. I dig it!
