      @@tanguman2 There was a joke I read in Reader's Digest..."Life in the United States" that I need to share with you. It fits this scenario perfectly!
      Here is the way I remember the story-
      "...A gentleman (from Texas) and his wife went to Brazil to teach literature for a year at a local University(I believe he was from A&M, but not sure). A student from the University came to meet them at the airport. He was there to take them to their new home in the downtown area of Brazil.
      As the student pulled the car into the driveway of the house that the couple would be staying in ...they noticed a message.
      The words: "Yankee, Go Home!" had been spray painted in large letters across the garage door.
      The college student was embarrassed, and profusely apologized for the hateful message.
      The Texan (with a kind smile) patted the student's shoulder and said: "Please don't worry about it another minute, son. We don't much like em' where we come from either."

    • @Falcun21
      @Falcun21 5 лет назад +50

      @@michelleweeks6735 Texans are extremely patriotic. It's just that in a contest of what they love more, Texas comes first. It's been that way since 1836. When the Alamo and Goliad boys died, Remember the Alamo and Remember Goliad became rallying cries throughout the "state." Folks took the Alamo sacrifice and the Goliad massacre to heart. Houston ordered the destruction of the Alamo, but Bowie decided to buy Houston time. Then Travis showed up and then Crockett.189 brave men stood off over 5,000 soldiers just to buy Houston more time to gather allies and fighters. They were the Spartans at Thermopylae and they are icons to us. The pride that that instills cannot be easily explained, because it's not just mentioned in a history book and then forgotten. It's everywhere you look in Texas. Every true Texan home has Texas flags on mugs, shirts, caps, towels, decals on cars, trucks, a Texas shaped clock or cookie tray or ash tray or cake pan. The cities and streets bear the names of those heroes. We have a legacy that we feel deep inside, a burning desire to win to overcome the odds against us, a never say die attitude mixed with an unhealthy dose of bring it on. When Xerxes demanded the Spartans lay down their weapons, Leonidas replied with "Come get!" When Santa Ana demanded the Alamo defenders surrender, they answered with a cannon blast at him. Texans have a very strong response to being ordered to back down. The phrase, "Or what?" comes to mind. Every time a true Texan righteously stands his ground and refuses to back up even an inch, makes him feel that much closer to being worthy of the sacrifice made by the men at the Alamo. They didn't back down and so we can't either (as long as we're in the right. I'm not talking about drunks and trouble seekers/bullies) You can push some people, you can't push a Texan, it's hard on your health.

      We have barbecues. We barbecue hamburger patties, steaks, brisket, sausage, pork, corn on the cob, etc.. When mentioning barbecue in Texas, it’s a GIVEN it’s either on a pit OR on a grill over open flames using charcoal briquettes, and wet wood chips for the smoking factor and the red ring around the meat, just under the “bark” of briskets, ribs, pork tenderloins, etc.. A cook out is a general term and can include cooking with propane. Any self respecting Texan knows that. Restaurants use pits, as most people can’t afford one in their backyard. Restaurants also use rotisserie’s. That’s just flame and wood. You’re splitting hairs that have already been split.

    When I took a trip to England I was asked where I'm from. I said "Texas". I was then informed that when Americans travel they usually say they are from America or the United States, but only folks from Texas say they are from Texas. I had no idea lol. Now I do.

    I moved to Texas from Pennsylvania almost 9 years ago. It seems that a lot of Pennsylvanians moved here, and fit in quite well! Someone came up with a cute little quip: "Just a Pennsylvania girl living in a Texas world." We all have a lot of similar values, too!

      I was about 60 miles north of the Red River traveling north on I-35 to visit my Aunt in OK. I stopped in a restaurant for dinner. Looking at the menu items, I asked the waitress, "Hey, Texas is about 60 miles south of here, right?" "I'm not sure sir." she said. "I notice you have Texas toast on the menu, I said. "Yes sir." she told me. Then I asked, "Do you guys have any Oklahoma toast?" She said, "I don't know sir, I'll have to ask my boss." She must have been new; probably her first week. Then I felt guilty. I'm sorry miss, I was just kidding. Then I ordered my meal with Texas toast. I wonder what would happen If I pulled this joke in another state.
