Some of these tracks like Black Coffee were produced by William Orbit who has a very recogniseable sound. He produced Madonna’s Ray Of Light album plus a few of the tracks on Music. He uses the same synth and drum pallets. You can almost hear “Beautiful Stranger” under this.
Love All Saints - Rock Steady and One Strike are also great tunes from them. Don't think you've reacted to the group Eternal yet and would highly recommend them too. Great reaction and I always look forward to your videos :)
Whoa! I certainly did not expect this, yet again from me 😂❤😅 Thank you for digging into the music of my late teens early twenties 😊❤ I was 19 when Black Coffee came out... Lovely memories 🎉 The one and only, the fabulous one - William Orbit produced this track 😊
Oh yeay, happy you are doing this group! I really liked them and they could sing. Their songs were somehow mesmerizing and different. LJ And yes, it makes sense what you said about the synthesizer in Black Coffee. :)
So happy to see more All Saints! I love this live performance of Never Ever, their harmonies sound great and I love their little dance routine: ruclips.net/video/F5NYoXmTlJI/видео.html I also like this live TV performance of Pure Shores - the acapella ending is a sweet moment: ruclips.net/video/Y-uAlbFG-lk/видео.html Finally I recommend the music videos for I Know Where It's All and All Hooked Up, these are 2 of my fave tunes of theirs!
I'm a big fan of All Saints and have lived in the Uk my whole life and have never seen 3 of the 4 videos! Love all these songs, especially Black Coffee!!! 🖤☕️
Had a great time with this reaction, All Saints are one of my favourite girl groups ever. *Black Coffee* | second single from their second album, Saints & Sinners (2000); also their fifth number-one single in the UK. Fun fact: the song was co-written by Kirsty Bertarelli, who at the time was in a relationship with her now-ex husband Ernesto. The lyrics are really beautiful. I love William Orbit myself but I actually prefer another version of this, it's around 5 minutes long and you can find it here on RUclips (an audio with cover art that says "All Hooked Up"). Not so fun fact: during the promo run for this single a lot of group in-fighting happened and eventually caused the group to split up in 2001. Luckily, they've reunited twice since then, and the second time (which seems to be sticking so far) has been since 2013. *Under the Bridge* | one of my favourite covers. At the time of release (1998) I had no idea it was a Red Hot Chili Peppers original. I loved it then and I still do now. It became All Saints' second number-one single on the UK Singles Chart. Sadly RHCP weren't happy with it (completely understand why though, it's a song about loneliness and the struggles of being clean from drugs). Please react to All Saints - "I Know Where It's At."
OMG I LOVE your description of William Orbit's production sound. Like "a computer dripping water" that's totally what it is! I love his sound so much, some of the best songs ever imo were produced by him. If you haven't done so already, do listen to Melanie C's "Go!", it was also produced by him and I am OBSESSED.
I guess Black Coffee and another one you've reacted to before, Pure Shores, are my favourite songs by them. Also agree about William Orbit. I think he did something with U2 as well.
Never Ever is a notorious grower! I think it still holds a U.K. chart record - the most copies a single has sold before making it to No1. It just stayed in the top 10 for weeks. It ended up being the third best selling single by a girl group, behind The Spice Girls and Little Mix.
One of the things that stand out for me in regards to Never Ever, is how Shaznay sings both Zee and Zed in the song. "Flexing vocabulary runs right through me, the alphabet runs right from A to Zee" "Sometimes vocabulary runs through my head, the alphabet runs right from A to Zed" Also, the video of Never Ever you reacted to was the US version. The original UK version tends to be more liked in general, so here ya go if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/X28-olxweYk/видео.html
One of my favourite Girlbands who you probably won't have seen are a German group called 'No Angels' - Please can you react to: 'still in love with you', 'daylight in your eyes', 'feel good lies', 'goodbye to yesterday'?
All Saints bring back so many memories... of me wearing combat trousers trying to be like them! I love their version of Under The Bridge, but they got a lot of stick for covering such a classic (originally by Red Hot Chili Peppers, a song about drug addiction). Other songs to react to: War of Nerves, Rock Steady, Bootie Call, One Strike.
It's wild that Nicole Appleton was engaged to Robbie Williams then married to Liam Gallagher, who absolutely hated each other. All Saints are another band I loved in the 90s. Pure Shores was their biggest hit from the movie The Beach. You probably know all this 😁. Thanks Bryson. ❤
Please react "3T" music videos, It's an r&b/pop group that was very successful in the 90s and in 1995 their first album sold 3 million copies worldwide, they are MJ's nephews. The song "Anything" was number 1 on Billboard and some of his other hits are "24/7", "Tease Me", "I Need You" and "Why" featuring MJ.
I LOVE the picks! These songs were some of my most listened to songs of the time. I think I still have the album though I'm sure the cd cant be played anymore.
Love them! They are so effortlessly cool and the swaggiest all-female group to come out of UK (although v technically they are a British -Canadian band) There are gems throughout all of their albums especially, Chick Fit, RockSteady and One Strike, … Shaznay is without doubt at the helm and an amazing writer and producer in her own right! They made two recent albums which are excellent and have some of the best stuff they’ve ever done which is just so exciting that they are reaching new heights!!! 🎉
Do "War of Nerves", "I Know Where It's At", "Booty Call", "Rock Steady", "All Hooked Up" next.. Also, unrelated, but I'd love to see you react to "Hippychick" by Soho from 1990, a band fronted by an English twin sister duo, in the late 80's and 90's. It was their only big hit, and really unique.
I’d love to know more about their reasons for covering Under the Bridge because it was written by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers about heroin addiction in Los Angeles and was a very deep and meaningful song, so as much as I love All Saints it feels a bit unsettling being reworked as an R&B “bop”.
Black Coffee reminds me of Spice Girls' 2 become 1 video. There are similarities. I wonder if All Saints purposefully copied the style, especially the ending bit.
It's definitely worth noting that what sets All Saints apart from a lot of girl groups is the fact that - cover versions aside - they wrote their own songs (well Shaznay did at least) and I personally always preferred their songs to those of the Spice Girls. Please react to Bootie Call and All Hooked Up next.
Just to be clear the Spice Girls have writing credits on all of their songs also so the Spice Girls write their own songs also with additional help here and their but that doesn’t take away the fact . All Saints not the first or the only girl group to write their own songs.
all I can say is thank god your playlist has Lady Marmalade followed by Under the Bridge because for the longest time in my cannon, both videos are tied together like Lady Marmalade was the party hype song while Under The Bridge was like the final song of the night after the party kinda vibe. but that's just me. Also, you should have added I Know Where It's At and Pure Shores to this playlist. Another edit: the UK version of Never Ever had better visuals.
Met and sang with ShaZnay Lewis and she is incredible! The vids all have a similar vibe, you watched the wrong (usa) version of Never Ever but that’s fine. I was about 9 when that song was first stuck in my head, running around South Africa where it was number one and that opening monologue was my tiny prepubescent party trick. I said it ALL the time. “J are you ready for dinner?” “… a few questions that I need to know…”
So glad your doing all saints.if you didn't care for the spice girls then you had all saints as the alternative in their boots, combats and crop tops. Don't care for their covers much.their originals are better.shazny was their writer.she had a small role in kiera knightly's earliest movie that I've seen.called bend it like beckham.i believe there's a club seen in it where they dance to i turn to you by mel c. I was looking forward to never ever then disappointed that you chose they US video☹️. Please do i know where it's at,booty call and pure shores which got them a no1 and was the song for leo di caprio movie the beach. Please react to the sugerbabes (all line ups) and the Saturdays.
Spice girls vs All saints was a very big thing in the UK late 90s. Both were huge but All saints didnt have the global success Spice girls had. Or the 10 UK no1s. But they were kinda cooler.
I was never a fan of All saints due to the quality of vast majority of their music which is definitely not very good compared with many musical acts that were out there at that time or before they arrived but somehow they charted for whatever reason and they’re more remembered for large numbers of controversies surrounding them than for music (I can’t really list them all because it far too long, controversial and upsetting for passionate music lovers to point out.) But I do love 💗 “Black coffee ☕️“ it’s the only song by All saints that I love 💗, I’ve love it ever since I was 5 years old, whenever I play it till this day at home my family burst 💥 out of their room and rush to my phone 📱 to see who’s singing and ask me who’s singing. It’s the group favourite song too, particularly the Canadian sisters 👯♀️ in the group they often prised the song and always mentioned it a lot, even more than others well known song by the group with one of the sisters calling it “the best!”
Sadly you watched the American version of the Never Ever video which I would say is awful. The normal version really enhances the emotion of the song & is really understated. The American version is VILE.
I find it ironic that its Nicole and Natalie Appleton that are the sisters in this band,i always thought that Melanie Blatt and Nicole Appleton was the 2 that looked the most alike🙃Melanie was always a slight favourite in this band, although i liked all 4. Melanie is the one that dresses most like a "hip hoper". 2:35 Thats Melanie btw. 4 good songs that explains by themselfs why I preferd All Saints`s more matured sound, then many of the other girlbands back then. Even liked them better then many of the boybands too. I think i actually prefer All Saints Lady Marmalade better then the one that Pink,Christina Aguilera,Maya and Lil Kim did. Shaznay Lewis way of rapping is much smoother, and goes with the flow of the song, while Lil Kim is ..... "too much". Still like both versions though of a really good song. And here is the shocker of this essay comment,i prefer All Saints - Under The Bridge above RCHPs original. People will lose theyr minds over that, but they are simply better for me. The way they take turns, all are brilliant singers that can carry a verse or more in a song, and they sound amazing in the chorus. Im not surprised ypu got mindblown by this one,its one of the best covers i have heard. And you would think me as very much a rock/metal type of guy, would prefer the original over this, but nope. All Saints could do nothing wrong! They were just too unique! And they sound wonderful live too! 16:10 Nicole opening Never Ever, both her and Nicole are gorgeous but as you can tell,Nicole has "cuter features" while Nicole kind of reminds me of Madonna,a classic blonde beauty. Too bad that they departed in the end..... Long Live Simone Rainford`s Memory, she started All Saints with Melanie and Shaznay
Oooops,i mentioned Nicole twice towards the end,i blame it on this heat haha. Apologies Natalie! Nicole= Cute like Melanie,Natalie = Beautiful like Madonna *insert smirk emote here*
All Saints were kinda short lived but they were really good. It's such a shame cause they had a swagger and style of their own. Black Coffee, War of Nerves and Under the Bridge are my top 3 personal faves. Particularly Under the Bridge cause I love when an artist's cover really shakes up the original and makes it their own. Wish you had done the original UK video version of Never Ever. It's more in align with the group and their style instead of the silly Americanised video they were forced to do.
“Under the bridge 🌉.” Was of course originally by The Red hot chilli 🌶 peppers 🫑 at first I liked it because I never heard of the Chilli own version at that point but after listening 👂 to the original I didn’t like All saints version, it was already controversial enough to cover a signature song by the chilli 🌶 peppers in the same decade, but to cover a song that they didn’t know very much about just because one of them is a fan of rock music chosen to cover doesn’t mean you should do it. It just tone deaf 🧏♀️ as UK boy band Take that covering Nirvana’s “Teen sprit.” except Take that were much worse on their cover of signature rock tune. If it was originally All saints’s song it would’ve been a otherwise ok but forgettable song but it’s not their song and it’s terrible 😣 and disrespectful to the original to make matter worse it often & now remembered as one of the worst cover songs of all time, it’s widely considered to be one of the worst cover made by a girl band of all time. It was forgettable, lacklustre and sounded just like any other song out there at that point in time, the only saving grace was the singing other than that it was not good.
Love majority of their songs but Black Coffee is top of the list. So underrated.
love love love them. Black Coffee is one of my favorites, it was produced by William Orbit (same as Pure Shores)
Some of these tracks like Black Coffee were produced by William Orbit who has a very recogniseable sound. He produced Madonna’s Ray Of Light album plus a few of the tracks on Music. He uses the same synth and drum pallets. You can almost hear “Beautiful Stranger” under this.
Yup. He’s just recovering now from decades of drug abuse
I’ve never seen this version of the Never Ever video before! My favourite All Saints song is still I Know Where It’s At, definitely one to check out
I loved the UK version
Lady Marmalade and Under the Bridge (both covers) were released as double a-side (singles) - it is probably why the videos are linked.
All Saints were very big in the UK and I'm sure they still have legs xx
Love All Saints - Rock Steady and One Strike are also great tunes from them. Don't think you've reacted to the group Eternal yet and would highly recommend them too. Great reaction and I always look forward to your videos :)
Thanks! 😊
Eternal, another classic UK girl group with hit after hit. They're definitely worth checking out! Great recommendation.
i love bootie call. the whole vibe and production of it!
All Saints are terrific. Their 'Red Flag' album is brilliant!
Early William Orbit tracks when he formed BassOMatic are worth checking out too, especially Fascinating Rhythm
Whoa! I certainly did not expect this, yet again from me 😂❤😅
Thank you for digging into the music of my late teens early twenties 😊❤ I was 19 when Black Coffee came out... Lovely memories 🎉

And yes, it makes sense what you said about the synthesizer in Black Coffee. :)
All that's missing is "I Know Where It's At" and this is my Top 5 All Saints track
Black Coffee is an ultimate fav of mines! Never gets boring! Love it!
All Saints were great ...... contemporary with the Spice Girls but edgier. (and Melanie Blatt was gorgeous !)
They're still together
So happy to see more All Saints! I love this live performance of Never Ever, their harmonies sound great and I love their little dance routine:

Finally I recommend the music videos for I Know Where It's All and All Hooked Up, these are 2 of my fave tunes of theirs!
Love All Saints. Try Rock Steady and One Strike as two later songs that are perfection.
Thank you for creating this video. ALL SAINTS are underrated icons. Period.
Haven’t heard their music in ages. Thank you for reacting. Please also consider reacting to Goldfrapp - I know you would love them.
I'm a big fan of All Saints and have lived in the Uk my whole life and have never seen 3 of the 4 videos!
Love all these songs, especially Black Coffee!!! 🖤☕️
Ooooh...some All Saints. My absolute favorites are "All Hooked Up" and "Rock Steady" though.

All Saints are AMAZING! Saw them live few years ago....love it
"Under the bridge" is a cover. The original is by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Never Ever is by far their biggest hit worldwide. Also their only really big hit into US making #4 on hot 100.
Under the bridge is A cover from the band red hot chilli peppers cover . The song is about his addiction problem and now being sober
Black Coffee is so good. A classic now.
I don’t care much for their cover songs but their discography is SO good.

Thanks for watching!
All saints lived in Gotham city.
The UK makes the best girl Pop groups. Facts. Bananarama were the first & the Spice girls were the ultimate.
Black Coffee…when gave job for master Mr. Orbit
LOOOOOVE All Saints!

And ironically, All Saints were like the complete opposite of the Spice Girls in terms of music, fashion and aesthetic in their videos.
If u like all saints. Then plz try a 90s girl group called eternal. I know u will love them 🥰🥰
