I've been watching your videos for months now and I've learned a lot of things especially how mainly a laptop works. My hobby is electronics mainly on DC voltage. Since I did not go to any type of electronics schools, these types of videos helps me a lot. I have now successfully fixed my surround system that it died years ago, thanks to this trick. I will replace the thermal fuse with proper one just to be safe. Thanks a lot Sorin. Keep on teaching us :)

    ..Great job..
You remind me when back in 1968 when I was soldering with my first solder iron..
It was starting to burn my power wires and made the smell U just mentioned ..
Next day my soldering iron was broke ..
    Thank for the memories
    Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

So calming watching your videos Sorin and also learning a lot. I was watching lots of repair videos from Louis Rossmann and somehow I landed on your channel. I probably watched tens of your videos when I realized that you're actually Romanian, așa că salutări din România. Keep up the good work and creating great content.

I would have replaced the thermal cut off with a 150'C to give some protection but at higher temperature or fit a resetable snap switch with access from outside.
    Be well and take care.

Hi! My the best soldering iron is TQ-95. No any electronic elements inside, per 10 s from 20 watts to 200 watts.Only one problem- no too many different tips for this model. You can try it. 8 years no any problems.

  • @nicusor86

probably you remember the old sordering pistols with bakelite body, a small light bulb, no thermal fuse, and tips made with 3mm copper wire... I still have one gave to me by my electronics professor when I was about 15ish after I accidentally had the ideea to improve my father's old one by exporting the windings. I used to check how hot it was by "smelling it" like you did with the soldering pencil.
then I bought that soldering station too, just with 3 pin pencil connector instead of 4 because it's an older revision. If I remember correctly part number it's zd-931 something, rebranded by many, and in about 15 years I had to change only once the heating resistor...

    Smashing job, nicely recovered :-D
The dead thermal fuse in the primary i've seen in small radios.
The radio stays on for long periods of time and the fuse must weaken.
i do the same as you, but i drill extra holes in the case by the transformer and in the top case, get more air through :-)

Only downside of thermal fuses is that you can't solder them - minor irony there ;) I would be inclined to replace the fuse like for like even with the pain of crimping it - it was there for a reason. We see a lot of blown thermal fuses in Repair Cafés in mixers, hair dryers etc and have a replacement stock of various ratings - if the 'worst' were to happen and they traced it to a thermal fuse that had been removed/shorted out there would be no end of trouble to be had!

    Dear Sir,
my Weller WSA 1 rework station. I have the following problem:
When I turn on the power switch, the green indicator light comes on. The pump starts. This all lasts for 1 sec, at which point the main 0,8 A fuse blows.
I would like to ask for your opinion from your experience what could be wrong. At the same time I also ask you for an electrical diagram of the control PCB. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

very good job sir. but I really do not know what you have done that made your station work again. what did you solder ??

    • @Chu3505
      @Chu3505 6 лет назад +1

SteXist There is a small thermal heat fuse inside that big transformer. He just soldering the hot and ground wires of that electrical socket wiring together in that big transformer to bypassing that small thermal heat fuse. That save him 50 Euro for a new soldering station, but the next time that big transform causes overheating,it will causes a fire to that big transformer, now it just don’t dies like before because he bypassed the small thermal heat fuse protection. Now he have to be remembering to unplug that soldering station every night before he leaving his shop or putting a big wrist burning his shop down.

That smell. It is the same smell of a burnt up motor, burnt varnish. The thermal fuse in some home appliances are burred under some of the windings, so you have to destroy the windings to get to it, making it unrepairable. greedy bastards.
