Damn i love this guy.
1. Im trying to figure out what word he substitutes "yeah" for.
2. He is trying his best to educate the little people. And that is golden. I just wish I lived by him. So i could go there everyday i could. To learn from him.
I think "yeah?" stands for "ok?"
I follow F1 racing and Indycar racing. Four time world Champion Sebastian Vetall, who is German intersperses yeah all the time which is a German thing. It seems to me all manner of racers have picked this up from Vettal.
British folks often end sentences with “Isn’t it” of the like. “Vettal had a great career didn’t he?”
I must thank you! I have been soldering for more than 40 years and have NEVER seen anyone actually perform a side by side comparison of flux (paste/liquid) Vs Rosin (solid/mixed). KUDOS!
Sorin: Since I watched this video, I've been making my own liquid flux using the rosin you say to use. And it's now 2022 and I still only use it. It works great Thank you my friend.
Hey man, i wanted to thank you alot! I bought myself a laptop for 20€ Asus with i5 4th gen. Gtx 840m (won't turn on) also I bought a multimeter, heatgun and some soldering stuff. I watched alot of ur videos, because I had no idea what it could be.. with the multimeter I found that the first mosfet had 19V input, but not output.. my first soldering looks like shit...BUT I got it back to work again!!!! So I wanted to share and say thank you! 😊 Keep it up!
Was the mosfet with no output the problem? Or you found something else shorted?
Michele De Stefano
Mosfets usually fail short circuit. When that happens they can take down other components with them but that depends on the circuit they are in.
Anyone can answer am I fine with just using white rosin ? Or do I need to make my own flix using isopropyl alcohol and rosin ?
learning how to fix your own stuff is one of the best investments one can make
You're like the friend I never knew I had. I love your videos and your accent. These videos are highly educational and useful to anyone that's getting into the field of electronics. A credit to all IT junkies and engineers. Thank you, man! Thank you.
The most funny thing was hearing that you loved the rosin's smoke smell, haha!
those whose become asthma sufferer because of smoking rosin love it a lot too :p
If I could go back 50 years and apprenticed in in electronics repair shop, I would have wanted you to be my teacher. Thank you for your videos.
"Now... you have to trust me, yeah?"
Says the guy with a heavy Slavic accent. Well, at least he isn't offering us tea...
😂😂😂
Another eastern european legend! Home of the DIY masters. No surprise this method works beautifully
I second that. 👍
Tot respectul pentru Dumneavoastra . Ma bucur sa vad ca acestea detalii fac o mare diferenta in electronica pentru mine cat si pentru toti cei care va urmaresc cu drag . Va doresc multa sanatate .
This was such a huge help for me. As a person who repairs things for friends and my own equipment when I'm home this is a great tip. The liquid flux also goes bad relatively quick but I imagine resin in pure form will last years and years until I need it. THANK YOU!!!
I tried your home flux recipe and man, it worked amazing. I challenged it on the same board against (famous) Amtech 559 and solder made with the mix you recommended worked flawlessly. Joint is more elegant than the one made with Amtech. Amtech leaves a bit less brownish resin behind, but it's fine by me as Im always cleaning my boards with isopropyl alcohol afterwards anyway. Big thank you!
Hey dear Sir what was this flux home recipe? At what timestamp does he say how he made the flux? What ingredients did he/you used?
@@christosmakariou4574
It is crushed rosin mixed with isopropyl alcohol.
The mixing ratio is not that important. You add more rosin or more alcohol until you get the desired viscosity that works best to you.
I am using this liquid flux when I want to protect traces on PCB and i don't have solder mask. You just apply this liquid flux and let it dry.

Best electronics channel on youtube. I just love it. Thank you for education. It's inspirational tutorials like these that save the planet from electronic waste. Love the making your own flux. You can clearly see it can withstand a higher temperature coefficient - which protects the chip from over heating when both salvaging parts or replacing parts.
I just wanted to say how greatful I am to have found your videos!
I wanted to encourage you that what you do is helpful to alot of people! It is unfortunate that so many people have negative things to spew out of their ignorance! Its disgusting the condition of humanity these days! What you do matters and I hope you dont let ignorant people discourage you!!!!!
"I drop tears of flux" 23:21 Sorin you're such a god damn genius!
comment of the year
Thank you Master Sorin, Once i started viewing your video, I'd never escape evening single second just to get learn from your demo/actual technique. You are amazing and most of the other videos i'd watched, yours is totally clear in details.
Who needs an extractor, start your day with a deep breath of Kolophonium, aaaaaahhhh there's nothing better
🤣👏🏻
Naughty Finger yes there is, Phenibut,
There is nothing better than an afternoon nap with a rug soaked with acetone on your face
Puts hair on ur chest Matie !!!
hes on his 15th lung transplant
Tree resin/rosin, frankincense and myrrh; some uncircumcised philistines on this board hate incense. Kolophonium (pine rosin) does have a pleasant smell. As to Boris here liking the smell of mineral spirits is another matter.
Hi. Thankyou so much for sharing, I'd had to wait for half an hour for you to find your different fluxes but it worth it!!
Just for you and other people to know: if you want to buy rosin or colophony for REALLY cheap search the one classic dancers are using on their shoes. It's exactly the same colophony you're using for soldering but it sells in bags of 500gr for something like ten dollars!!!
Sorin does not just teach you electronics repair, he also teaches the tradition and culture of electronics, generations of craftsmanship and resurrecting machines. This is why I love Sorin.
i start fall in love in electronics when i saw your videos on youtube...sir 😁😁😁 your are great electronics teacher .... i am one of your Big One.....hope you will never stop showing your technic to us....specially for me... i am to newbei for this... and i want learn more......thank you so much sir....
You can also use rosin flux to create a white cover on components which can be helpful when locating components that are getting hot.
So if you use this were components gets hot, you may get shorts? That's not a very good idea.
WOW you are right this is the best flux I have ever used!
All my soldering connections are much stronger.
This flux really lets or make the solder flow so easy and nice.
The price is cheap too.
Thanks
I'm not sure if it is known all over the world, but in Germany there is something they call "Löthonig" = "soldering honey", it is basically exactly this mix of colophonium and isopropy-alcohol, hobbyists use often benzine and less clean alcohol and it works too, but the sense is to make a thick paste so it looks and feels like honey, that stuff is great and ready made pretty expensive. I want make both, honey and liquid, but still wating for my colophonium from China, step by step I'm gonna test all the diy recipes I can find, solder paste is also on the plan :)
great video for beginners in field of electronics! Thanks a lot for advices!
Thank you Sorin, I would love to see a video made by you explaining how to use an oscilloscope to trouble shoot chip and settings
Thank you for the great work
Yes dear Sorin,
You are great teacher and I thank you .
I have been in electronics (in and out) for nearly all my life but you have thought me more in just a few videos than what I have missed in my past .
Thank you professor 👍🙏
From Leicestershire UK 🇬🇧
Sacaz 😀, best solution.
by far the best electronics info i have seen. very well done and explained clearly.
I love the smell of JP4 I flashback to my times dealing with jets.
I also learned soldering and electronics with pine rosin as flux. Love its smell
Hi Sorin, I did it & it works delightfully! Thanks for sharing!
this method is so old
Dude is huffing flux smoke! This man loves his work.
Rosin, anagram for Sorin. Maggiiic 😀
rinos too... horny or ornis if you like :))
Dušan Velemir very very clever sir!!! Love it! 🙂
Thanks those you're nonstop to teaching us.. As a techinician l had got more knowledge from you..
I had an Electric fire that developed a problem. When I got to the circuit board, it had fried an IC. So! It had burnt the board. I used soft silicone wire. To rewire the new chip onto the traces. And! I used this flux as you showed.Unfortunately in present times.IPA is very difficult to obtain. So I used “methylated spirit” it worked. Dissolved the rosin. And I used that. It was a brilliant flux. And the fire works a treat. Thank you for this vid. I know what I will use from now on. 👍👍 Yes pine resin.Smells great.
The substance he is using here to make electronic soldering flux is called: "Colophonium" or "Colophony". This is a fancy name for the naturally occurring yellow resin (rosin) from the Yellow Pine Tree. Prepared rosin flux comes in 50gram tins for around $6 to $9. You can buy 1.5 lbs. of "Colophony" rosin for $16 and make your own dissolving it in isopropyl alcohol - That's equal to 13 tins, enough to last quite awhile.
Which continent produces this yellow pine tree?
Interesting demo and approach, thank you
Even if there's not the same chemicals in pure pine rosin you should still always use a fume hood. There's studies that show it still causes allergies and other respiratory issues.
It's also only temporarily vaporized, when inhaled it'll cool down and stick to the inside of your lungs, like some "natural" subtances used in bootleg vapes, ppl just assume things aren't dangerous when its "natural", but vaporizing and inhaling some substances is still dangerous to us
Thank you for your experience 👍
I love how dangerous everything is in this video. You gained a sub dude.
Thanks for yor demonstration, yesterday I made my own flux using rosin+ethanol and this is very helpful
You are great and way you explain is fantastic...
This is fantastic, the smoke of this. I love to feel the smoke of .. of .. of the flux, of the ROSIN. (6:38) XD
Thank you for sharing, I can’t believe how much I have missed hearing different accents, yours is rich and reminds me of friends from the past and appreciate you sharing knowledge and experiences with comparisons.
Now I wonder how they all are doing, was great to be surrounded with different languages and understanding beliefs etc. Thank you for sharing and hope you have a great day!
Accents Sug Azz
@@ten10ca I enjoy because it shows there is more to this world to know and acknowledge, the beliefs to superstitions that are different to understand, cultural upbringings that is great to share, new lands to be exposed to. I am an optimistic in some ways that there are people like you and me that just want to share knowledge that today’s society and media doesn’t want the general to know since you don’t have to throw money into it as much as the next product they are pushing. I have a pancake mix my family loves and haven’t had to buy the store brands in years and only recently few others understand that it is the little things shared that we appreciate instead of having it constantly similar to what is expected. Rambling and random but it is awesome in it’s own uniqueness just as I appreciate your time sharing how effective simple ingredients compared to what is bought is better.
Thanks for the video.
I always used pine rosin, since the late 90s, and to this day I cannot find a replacement
that comes closer to properties of the pine rosin when it comes to soldering electronics.
In fact, most of the time I used to search among pine trees for chunks of rosin ready to be collected :)
sometimes cleaning it beforehand and "purifying" was needed.
overall, a great companion to every electronics technicians.
great video.. i have the same feelings for the solder smell and the flux also...
This is the first video of yours I have watched, nice work and very interesting ... Yeah 👍
I was waiting for this video for months :) Thanks for sharing
You are my inspiration Sorin. With love, Manasseh Mukuwa in Zambia-Africa
I know exactly what you mean. My first experience of soldering was around 1970 when I was still a boy. I just love this smell it brings me back to that time.
Recently my wife gave me some out of date mastix (mastic) which I use as flux. It smells exactly as the flux in the old days. I have never smoked in my life but I could inhale this smoke all day and enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge! It is very valueable!
I also love the smell of flux -- One of the best things about soldering!
Chaos rules ...more like a comedy show 😂😂😂
This is the best video on flux ever made
I have watched a lot of your videos and learned a lot. keep them coming and thanks.
Thank you very much, now I use your flux, it is cheap, and really efficient. And has a good smell, also.
I learned so much watching this. thank you
I just used some reclaim from my dab rig, shit works great, and like you said that rosin smoke just hits different🤙😉
dababadoo
Thank you for sharing your experience, keep up!
You put liquid flux in your vape bottles? now I know why your crazy, you been vaping the flux hahaha good video.
Jajaj
A good one it is.....kikikikikiki
Hahaha, yes, few times been close to fill my vape with flux :)))
Britec09 q
Flux it.
i bought a pound of pine rosin only 10 bucks and mixed up worked amazing man probably last years thank you my friend !!!!
Thanks for this video, really explained well.
Thank you for explaining your experience with flux. Perfect :D
Keep up with your good work Sorin! Thank you
Great job. Thanks for your sharing. I am going to make it by your way.
Grate one. I like the part where you use the vibe holder be carful to mix you will start see strange things you know 😍😍😍
Great video i have it stored on my usb stick and Pc very helpfull i fully understand the point that you make!
Thank you for sharing your helpful experience.🙏🙏🙏
I love you man, thank you so much for giving us a part of your 30+ years of wisdom
Superb video very informative and a clear demonstration of this excellent flux, can I ask what brand solder you recommend?
Thank you so much man. You explain it very good with demonstration.👍
thanks for the tutorial.. its very helpful i have learned a lot👍
I've just been using flux core solder for years, works fine.
GREAT JOB AND THANKS FOR SHARRING
WHAT IS THE BEST FOR REBALLING ?
Wow thank you! The difference in price is vast and it can stay like that now.
I'm grabbing some solid Rosin and dissolving it in Isopropanol to make a batch up because _Common Sense_
I Vape too, so the empty Juice Bottles will be useful
Hello Sir,
I made a flux from rosin and nail paint remover right now. Its cost me around 25 rupees per 100 grams and thinner for just 30 rupees total cost was 55 rupees.
And this one is best flux. Thanks for explanation.
thanks for sharing your knowledge
Greetings from the US Gulf Coast.
The reason folks use a fume extractor is not the rosin - it's the solder. To use one or not is a personal choice, but folks in the electronics craft tend to have higher blood lead assays than most, and that's not a good thing. Rosin flux has been around for years, and is still one of the best types for electronics work.
The clear stuff looks like rework flux. Seems like it would be handy enough for the kind of work you do.
Melting rosin goes more easily if it is finely powdered. An improvised mortar and pestle works well enough for this. Rosin attracts water, so keep rosin powder in a dark container when not in use.
For those of us not using e-cigarettes, save the empty bottles from Shave Secret shaving oil or from any of several eye drops.
Good stuff, man! I mean to try making my own solder flux as soon as I can collect some pine rosin.
I love this guy so much
Hi Sorin, thank you very much for the tip
Guru of electronics. Thanks!
a very useful lesson greetings.
I look forward to the next videos.
top info , no wonder my solider was going like that and the solider had built in flux, just bought the solid rosin 40g 2 quid that brand as well
Fantastic video - I've ordered some Rosin Flux as you recommend (I already have some isopropyl alcohol) so cant wait to make my own liquid flux! Thanks :)
Fantastic!!!!! Thank you Sorin !!
Great teaching thank you so much I learn a lot.
I trust you Sorin that’s a fantastic idea... thank you again
Thanks, great video as always, very informative and interesting. Love your acsent too.
I just got my 100g of Rosin Flux today after ordering it last year September, I didn't think I'd get it as our post service in South Africa is the worst in the world!!! But finally, it arrived... Looking forward to using it and thank you for the recommendation!
I use the same flux rosin. You get this in paste also which is nice stuff. A bit dark almost orange but really nice.
I know this is an old video but, straight from Wikipedia and just for fun:
" , also called or (Latin: ), is a solid form of resin obtained from pines and some other plants, mostly conifers."
And this is why it smells so good ha h ah ha a ha haha h a! Спасибо, мой друг, Merci mon ami !
nice one i was going to get the expensive one but now iv seen this im doing exactly what you said to make some thanks for a expert tip love your adive and videos keep it up sir i have much to learn oh an iv fixxed a mother board i have been learning with thanks to your videos now i have some graphics cards to try the same process on legend thanks again
Amazing brother,i will give this a go.Thank you.
I love you
You are like a dad to me. I like how you explain things
Live long ❤️
This was great to see. Thank you -- you saved me a lot of money and aggravation !
I appreciate your videos soooo much. Big thank you to you. I wish I could be there to learn from you. I only just started and this would boost me sooooo fast :) I sew one video from you and subscribed immediately.
Sir
Rosin is very fantastic flux.
And you know it's very cheap price in pakistan .
I am also useing this.
But it's was very interesting lesson to make liquid flux.
Thanks a lot my teacher.
Dear mjy liquid flux k liye thori help chaye me also from pakistan kya hum bat kr skte hn app ka koi contact ?
So is heroin!!
Thank you Sorin, for the great work will flux and isopropyl alcohol
thanks you for all
Multumesc frumos pentru informații...
Thx 4 the video! Can u give an idea of what temperatures u use, when soldering and hot air soldering/desoldeing etc, thx
I remember as a little boy, I fell inlove with the smell of the solder flux. I used soldering wire with flux inside it . Watching you with the smoke brings back memories LOL
I know this is an old video but I just found it. I used your formula for flux and it's working great. I'm guessing my cost for a 20ml bottle is about 15 cents, maybe less. My last 15ml bottle was $10. Not bad!!
