- Our live cover of "Rosalina in the Observatory (or Comet Observatory)" from Super Mario Galaxy, originally composed by Koji Kondo. This arrangement by Patrick Bartley. Recorded live at Black Cat LES in New York City on March 1, 2020.
Now, this one is for the real jazz fans... I'm sure most of you are familiar with the wonderful "8-Bit Big Band", right? Well Charlie is actually a good friend of ours (a few members of J-MUSIC have played in his projects numerous times throughout the past two years), and I (Pat) took inspiration to do this song after hearing (and performing) the beautiful and grandiose 8-Bit arrangement. It seems that Charlie and I both had the same idea when hearing this song for the first time - Miles Davis, "Someday My Prince Will Come". Since there was no way we could match the power of a full big band, we decided to go in a slightly different direction, tweaked and mellowed out for a jazz sextet. We threw in tinges of Cannonball Adderley, with a slightly faster tempo and some "modern jazz reharms" thrown in for some extra kick. Go check out their version, as well, to hear our friend Mark Dover shred some clarinet!
Being that this is the music for Super Mario Galaxy's hub world, we thought it fitting as a metaphor to have so many different musical possibilities to travel to, with this song. This is definitely one of our favorite arrangements, and we'll be playing this one again for sure. Thanks for listening, and we hope you enjoy!

This is the definitive version of this song I want people to hear...
Cool 🐬
Man I’ve been hearin this since it came out 🔥
The Emmet Cohen rendition with PB is also great.
@@haltdeinmaul507but this one is better 😍
@@VGMCollective bad mindset for music like this, its art, one isnt "better," just different.
I immediately think of walking into the most relaxing, quaint French cafe with a view of the city, a stout Italian man behind the counter, a tall statuesque woman in turquoise overseeing things, and a lady in pink taking orders~
There's a homeless man with a polka dotted hat sitting on the river edge smoking a cigarette and lamenting the good old days.
vivid, yet i can only agree
I started thinking of Sonic Unleashed
What a gorgeous image,
Damn what has toad been through?!?!
@@Focus-Perception unleashed's ost is a masterpiece
Before listening: I've never played the game.
After listening: Maybe I should
Vibin
SkyTubacabara You should, especially if you're into 3D platformers. Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel are both amazing games.
Fantastic games, you definitely should play both Galaxy games!
Galaxy 1 for atmosphere (and pieces like this!!) Galaxy 2 is mostly the same but more about getting the fun to you quickly as possible with less atmosphere
Two amazing games that are some of my favorites of all time and always get a replay out of me every few years
Galaxy 1 and 2 are the pinnacle of platform gaming. Extremely creative, beautiful, intense, fun, mesmerizing.
Your chance has arrived
the unanimous polyrhythm shift at 8:27 was the sickest thing ever like that blew my mind into 3 pieces and then 2
Glad someone else noticed that! It's incredible how the whole band immediately catches on to the rhythmic shift
Afro Cuban the to 4/4 swing 🤓🤓🤓🤓 i love jazz
Me and the fam be vibing to this while at home.
Stay healthy and hydrated, boys and gals.
Who the fuck knew that accordion was what this song needed. It works so well!
This. This soothes my aching soul. Thank you, kind music people.
Joshua Larson amen
Weirdly enough the accordion gives the overall song a French type of vibe. Like I picture myself in a French cafe while listening to this song. Dope as always J-Music 👌🏾
The alto solo killed me, the trumpet solo revived me, and the vibraphone solo killed me again
10/10
Vibing to this as I work from home
same
Literally the reason I picked up Rosalina in smash and main her
I love her but hate her because she hard to use
Such big inspiration from Miles Davis' "Someday my Prince Will Come" album.
Absolutely brilliant work.
Loved it!
I was about to comment this too! Then I scrolled down and saw yours 😊 Totally agree.
Dude, I am LOVING this arrangement, and Wallace was KILLING it on the bass. Everyone was killing it on their solos. This song might have made me feel a bit better after listening to it.
gives me a café kinda vibe. a real proper café
This is the best version of this I've heard. So much energy and joy. I've had it on repeat all day, and it's going on the list of tunes to learn. Koji Kondo is right up there with Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and Jerome Kern.
When I was a kid, this bgm was the best lullaby.
Im so proud to be a Patrick Bartley addict before he exploded
This was my existence at the beginning of high school and still is
when you go to play Rosalina and it just turns into a 10 minute jam sesh
the change at 8:27 or so...my goodness...🔥
I found your music yesterday and listened to your Gusty Garden Galaxy twice! I absolutely love your music and aspire to be able to play in a band like this someday!
If we are talking favourites:
Bit Crusher
That one is so amazing. So much energy.
Love the accordion! And everything else, actually!
Damn I’ve always thought there’s nobody else who can recreate the galaxy soundtrack better than it is, but you guys just wowed me! Brings back so many memories. Thank you guys so much!
switch to swing at 8:31 is nice as hell
the vibraphone always gives me a strong roy ayers feeling. love the music hommies
I cant say I've ever heard jazz accordion before...This was definitely an interesting take
I loved it
This is a real vibe
My favourite song in the entire mario universe :3
So good! Love the good vibes (and the good vibes!)
Thanks, this music makes my drawing sessions more a uplifting experience and I thank you for that
this is such a cool arrangement! that coda section sounds incredible! also my guy Wallace on the bass absolutely killing! i love the more high-energy take on this tune.
This is too hip!!! So many good vibes in this recording, would love to come sit in next time I'm in NYC. Much love
Not many channels I bother to read the description of but this is one. Thanks for the extra insight.
you know a piece is good when youre listening to the first time in the background and it gets you to switch tabs back
bruh i have gone down the j-music ensemble rabbit hole every video is immaculate
One of the most iconic mario galaxy songs, blessed cover
8:34 love it!

This is so beautiful I’m in tears 🥺💖
Love everything here yall did an amazing job but damn that bass is tasty
This would fit so well with the unused super mario odyssey rosalina cameo where she would have been a musician in new donk city!
❤️ Rosalina ❤️
Wallace Stelzer is doing his thing on that bass. It sounds so good.
thank you so much, again and again
Amazingly good, man! Could listen over and over to this!
