It's funny that prior to the 80s, Japan wouldn't export their culture to us because they thought we wouldn't like it. But we love Japan and Japanese culture!

it's been a decade, probably more, since i first played these games. i would have been 7-8 and i'm 19 now. those were some of the best moments of my childhood. these games were such an incredible escape for me. i dont know why i'm leaving this comment but i was just filled with all these conflicting emotions because of this music. feelings of joy and nostalgia from remembering experiencing one of my favorite games for the first time, and feelings of sorrow and fear that i can't ever go back.

I was having this play in the background and I didn't even notice it transition at first till I actually listened to what I was hearing and realized it was different. All of these renditions fit so well with each other and they all flow with each other so easily god I love Nintendo music

I have many memories of playing this game as a kid, most of which are roaming the Comet Observatory hearing this beautiful music. I love how the music gets more lively-sounding the more Stars you collect. The final variant after the whole Observatory works again is my favorite because I hear it now every time I play the game!

That song came out around 1930-1940s. So wild how Nintendo got something so close to it.

I can't help but feel like, with everything else being so great, and music being so well done... i can't help but feel that the same tune always playing for either grand star or ordinary star started to get dry, and feel like i was progressing and then starting over with each level, the only progress feeling consistent being the music in the observatory, as well as the new rooms being unlocked. Still, i can't help but feel they could've done a little more for the power stars, instead of making every one of them seem identical... i mean they were previously lumas for crying out loud!
third one has weird piccolo flourishes, as well as a much bigger buildup intro; the third one also has the bass go on all 3 beats instead of 3 and then 2
First one is a trio of a Vibraphone, Harp, and Clarinet. Second is a small String and Piccolo group. and the Third adds some Brass, and the Piccolo playing during the chorus.
A bit late to the party, but notice how it goes from 1 beat being accented, to 2 beats, to finally 3 beats. Goes from this wispy melody to a full-blown waltz, pretty sick.
