What many dutch people tend to forget when explaining why we speak so good english is the fact that we grow up viewing a lot of english speaking movies and shows on television. While the majority of Europese countries synchronise all englisch movies and shows into their own language we mainly use subtitles. So as children we grow up with hearing english almost every day.

네덜란드말과 영어의 유사성도 있겠지만, 네덜란드 tv만 봐도 어린이 프로나 에니메이션은 자막 없이 영미프로그램을 그냥 틀어줘요.
오래 전부터 무역을 통해서 생존해왔던 나라답게 영어가 국익에 도움되니 정책적으로 배우도록 하는 분위기였어요.
프랑스 갔을 때 유럽 사람들은 다들 영어 잘할 거라고 생각했는데 ㅋ 파리 뒷골목에서 만난 택시기사 아저씨가 길가르쳐 주면서 한 영어가 거의 내 수준이어서 긴장이 팍 풀렸던 기억이 있음 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Hyung-chan Kim 유럽에서도 영어수준을 나누는데 그중에서 프랑스는 못하는 나라에 속해요. 우리나라가 일본 영어 못한다고 하듯이, 좀 무시 당하는 경향도 없지않아 있더라구요

한국어-일본어보다도 훨씬 가까운 언어들인데다 문자도 같고 접근가능성이 높은 국가들의 언어들이니 당연히 잘할 수 밖에...

네덜란드가 유럽 여행하면서 영어로 전혀 불편함이 없던 여행하기 제일 편했던 나라였던 것 같아요. 네덜란드 사람들 영어 발음도 좋고 다 잘하더라고요. 왜 유독 여기 사람들만 발음이 좋고 영어를 잘하는건지 궁금했는데 궁금증이 풀리네요!
네덜란드어는 독일어와 영어의 중간인 듯;;; 지금 독일 살아서 독일말도 조금 하는데... 간단한 네덜란드 단어들은 영어와 비슷하거나 독일어와 비슷해서 저도 이해할 수 있었어요^^; 한국 사람이 일본어 하는 것보다 네덜란드 사람이 영어 하는 게 더 쉬운 것 같다는...(한국은 한자를 많이 쓰지 않으니까ㅠㅠ)아 부럽네요 정말. 위츠커 씨께서 한국에서 하시는 일 다 잘 되시기를 기원합니다!!

Countries like Germany and France dub their English language entertainment, but the Netherlands subtitle instead. This is the most important reason almost everyone speaks English to an acceptable degree, much more so than learning English in school.

my nieces who are 5 and 7 can already speak english. everybody in their class need to study some english, basic though but still. for what i remember in the past i also started to learn english when i was around 10 or 11.
some of the kids (8-10) nowadays even get to learn some basic chinese at school now..personally i think its great because the older you get the more difficult it becomes to learn new languages.

션 채널영상들을 계속 보고있는데 이렇게 많은 외국인들이 한국어로 얘기하는 걸 처음 본 것 같아요. 엄청 신기해요ㅋㅋㅋ 그리고 션 채널을 보면 제 세계나 시각이 훨씬 넓어지는 느낌이 들어요. Western=Biblical culture, using alphabet / Eastern=Buddhistic culture, using chinese character 이렇게나 다른 문화권의 나라로 와서 자유롭게 일하고 즐기는 용기와 모험정신이 참 저에게 도전이 많이 되네요 교육적이고 재밌는 영상이 많은것 같아요
네덜란드 사람은 영어만 잘하는게 아니라 프랑스어 독일어도 잘하는 사람들도 많음 유럽 국가 중에서도 똑똑한 사람이 많은 나라인듯 해요 상식이나 열린 사고 매너도 좋고 그런 느낌 받았어요

그건 애당초 비슷한 언어들이고, 한국어는 일본어말고는 거의 호환되는언어가 없음. 외국인이 ‘한국인이 일본어 잘하는 이유’ 이런영상보는거나 마찬가지임. 한국인 입장에선 그냥 보고듣고따라하기만해도 엄청 늘거든.
주변에 호환되는 민족들이 중국 쳐들어 갔다가 한족 되버림...
독일어와 영어 사이에 있는 듯한 느낌이 네덜란드어임. 지리적으로도 영국과 독일 사이에 있고. 독일어랑 오히려 더 닮음. Ich komme aus ~ 이히 콤메 아우스 ~ 나라. 이것만봐도 독일어에 더가깝다고 느껴짐.
문득 글고보니 아프리간스어가 독일인하고 네덜란드인 정착민들이 만든 언어군...

영어,네덜란드어,독일어,스페인어,프랑스어,이탈리아어 전부 친척같은 언어들. 문법 비슷하고 단어도 흡사한게 많고. 한국어는 일본어 밖에 없음. 흔히들 생각하는 중국어는 같은 한자 문화권일 뿐이지, 문법이 완전히 다름. 차라리 몽골어나 사장된 만주어가 한국어랑 비슷할수 있음.

영어 네덜란드어 독일어 덴마크어 스웨덴어는 프랑스어 스페인어 포루투갈어 이탈리아어랑 되게 많이 달라요
유럽은 크게 라틴어, 게르만어, 슬라브어 3개로 나뉘고 그 외에 켈트어, 우랄어, 그리스어, 터키어로 나뉘는데 대부분이 게르만어계 국가이고 영어도 그 중 하나지만 동양은 국가마다 지역마다 언어가 다르다보니 어쩔 수가 없음 우리나라만 해도 한국어 안에 한국어와 제주어가 따로 있음
네덜란드인들은 어르신이나 거지들도 기본 영어 네덜란드어 독어 3개는 다 함. 게르만 계통 언어라 그런지 습득도 이들 세나라는 다를 나라나 타 대륙에 비해 금방 익힌다고 함.

In the Netherlands we have two types of way of saying 'you'. The informal and formal way. You use formal 'you' more for elderly people, teachers, when you're talking to a customer, royal family, politicians or parents(not a lot of people use formal you to their parents). You don't use formal 'you' in your workspace to colleagues (not even to your boss), because using the formal way can be seen as an insult(implying that they're old). In the Netherlands we see each others as "equals", so the informal way is used more.
A group of people in northern Europe speaking proto-Germanic split off and went their own ways some 1500 years ago. These groups went to England, Netherlands, Sweden, etc. The separation naturally developed unique accents and pronunciations in the different regions, leading to different languages. Basically, the two languages share a common ancestor.
And both have heavy French influenses. England from being conquered in 1066, the Netherlands from being conquered by Napoleon. The main difference is our close connection to Germany and the germanic language.

English is the Benjamin of the Germanic languages, it is closely related to the Frysian-Dutch language⬅(the second official language in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, also closely related to Danish and Dutch itself).
Dutch and Frysian are just like German, another of the West Germanic languages, cousin's to English, hence it's easy for us to aquire the language into our repertoire.
It used to be easy for the English to learn Dutch in the Old English speaking days, but the English of today has been influenced by its conquers, the Romans (Latin), the Norman-French (Latin again;), French itself and a short stint of the Dutch, etc, to the point that modern English consist of 70% loan words not in common with Dutch or Old English.
They have lost the ability to easily learn other West Germanic languages like Dutch, but because Dutch hasn't changed much and we have had a history with the French ourselves and the Holy Roman Empire, not to mention the Burgundy-Netherlands day's, we kept that skill to easily aquire modern English even under its many foreign influences in our language toolbox.
Fun fact,...it's easy for a Dutch person to still be able to read and understand most 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th century Dutch, the same language very intelligible to an Old English speaking person. But most modern English speaking people can't read or fully understand Old English text anymore.
I think this historical fact has more to do with our Dutch ability to easily learn English today.

In the netherlands we learn english, german and french between age 11 to 16. But when it comes to english you grow up with it through music, tv, gaming so its not that difficult to pick it up. More and more people even use english among each other when there is no real need for it.
You learn english already on primairy school when you are arround 8 or 9 years old.
아니 일본어도 한글을 썼으면 우리나라 대부분 사람들이 일본어구사 가능할걸?? 언어 뿌리가 같고 같은 알파벳쓰는 데 못하는 게 더 이상한 거아니냐.. 우리나란 한글써서 듕귁과 짜판이랑 사맞디아니함
만약 일본어가 국제공용어고 우리랑 문자도 같으면 우리나라사람은 90퍼 이상이 일본어 유창하게 가능할듯..근데 네덜란드어랑 영어는 우리랑 일본어보다도 더 가깝고 언어자체도 훨씬 단순하니까 못하는 사람이 있다는게 더 이상한 것
일본이 한글 안 쓰는게 문제가 아니라, 일본어의 지위가 그렇게 높지 않아서 한국인 입장에서 배우기 쉬워도 그렇게 잘하는 사람은 별로 없는 거. 유럽 나라끼리 긴밀한 것처럼 한국, 일본 관계도 그래서 일본어가 실생활에 도움이 되고 돈이 된다는 인식이 있었으면 한국인 중에서도 일본어 원어민처럼 하는 사람이 쏟아져 나옴. 유럽언어들 정도로 가까운 건 아니라도 그나마 배우기 쉽고 1:1 번역해도 그나마 통하는 언어라서 관심 가지고 배우면 잘 할 수 있는 언어고 실제로 일본 진출한 한국 연예인들 일본어 잘하는 사람 많기도 하고
굳이 일본말을 배울 필요가 없죠 영어만큼 지위가 없으니
영어를 어떤식으로든 실생활에서 많이 접하는게 가장 좋은거군요!
스웨덴 덴마크 등 스칸디나비아와 네덜란드 스위스 독일 사람들 즉 게르만계 북유럽 지역 사람들은 영어 꽤 잘합니다. 거의 모국어죠 역시 어족이 비슷한 게르만 어족이라 그런 것 같네요

Ik heb echt het idee dat we meer leren van media en het gewoon praten met andere mensen die of Engels als moedertaal hebben of geen Nederlands spreken. It's weird though, because in Norway we have obligatory english classes from the age of 5-6 until 16-17. I don't quite know in comparison to dutch, but i think norwegian also is a language pretty similar to english.
In the netherlands you learn english, way earlier then this girl is telling you, you start when you are arround 8 or 9years. She says 11 or 12 but then you already on high school not primairy school.

네덜란드어는 독일어랑 영어가 반씩 섞인 느낌이예요. 단어나 어법 비슷한 거 정말 많고... 유사성의 이점에, 소국으로 살아남고 무역으로 성장한 배경 때문에 그렇죠.

언어의 유사성도 있지만, 유럽은 인구수가 적은 나라가 많아서 자기나라 언어로 된게 많이 없기 때문에 미국이나 영국의 영어컨텐츠를 어릴때부터 많이 접한다고 하더라구요!
English, German, Dutch, Scandinavian = Germanic languages
English, Dutch and German form the Indo-Germanic language group. The Scandinavian languages are only sub related to that specific group, they are often called the Northern Germanic branche and are a subgroup of German and sometimes also called the Nordic languages. A Dutchman will often understand English and German, but vice versa it does not always work that way. Dutch, Germans and English will for example not understand Norsk. Besides, Dutch and English lended many words from the Latin group and German less. Dutch and German living at the border of their countries and more in the north, speak a severe dialect called Plat and understand each other almost completely. One special language in The Netherland is Frysk or Frysian and that language has more to do with Nordic languages than with Dutch or Flemish.

영어가 원래 독일 북부의 앵글로족과 색슨족이 브리타니아 섬으로 건너가서 쓴 언어인데...역사적으로 독일 방언정도이니 독어와 비슷한 화란어쓰는 네덜란드 사람들이 영어 잘 하는 건 땅 집고 헤엄치는 것임. 아마 우리로 따지면 평안도 함경도 사투리 정도.....
유럽인들은 영어배우기 좋은 환경인듯. 아무래도 한국은 영어를 사용할 기회도 많이 없을뿐더러 교육시스템이 시험을 목적으로 되어있어서 스피킹하는데 문제가 많은듯합니다. 제발 좀 교육시스템좀 바꿔주세요.. 초등6년,중등3년,고등3년 12년 의무교육받는데 영어를 못하는건 진짜 문제있는거 아닌가요 휴

네덜란드어 자체가 독일어와 유사한 이유가...주된 민족이 바로 다민족인 게르만과 (앵글족 (덴마크 남부 및 독일 북부), 색슨족 (독일 작센 지방), 유트족(덴마크 북부), 프랑크족) 컬트족의 혼합으로 다민족으로 구성됨. 앵글로 색슨족과 유트족 = 영국 영어의 뿌리.
음훼훼훼훼훼 전부 게르만 계통이죠
네덜란드 제외하고 역시 북유럽 국가들 영어수준 높네. 슬로베니아, 에스토니아가 높은 것도 의외고 아르헨이 60퍼센트인 것도 놀랍네

In portugal people speak really good English as well and the languages are not that similar. We start learning from a Young age and when i was a kid cartoons were pretty much all in englisg and movies are always on English with subtitles i think that's why.
oi Surely Dutch people speak better English than Portugue people in average. You say that Portugese and English are not that similar but those languages are similar, using alphabets, a lot of common vocabulary, similar expressions and similar grammar, etc.
York New well yeh obvly dutch Will speak better English like portuguese Will speak better Spanish. I was not comparing dutch and Portuguese was just saying that we speak good English. The only similar words are the ones coming from latin or French words wich means common to all latin languages. The grammar is really different inclunding the word order. We use the same alphabet but there are some extra letters on the English one (now they are included in the portuguese one but when i was a kid they were not part of it) and the letters have all different sounds from ours. I was just saying that since we are surrounderd by English content it's not that difficult.
The only similar words are the ones coming from Latin or French? You can't use 'the only' because 30% of English words are from Latin and 30% of English words are from French, 60% in total. As both are European languages, Portuguese and English share about a half of vocubulary and also grammar. The grammar might not be super similar but it is still simila. If you learn a language which is really far from European language such as Korean, Japanese, Arabic or others, you will understand what I mean.
York New i'm learning korean lol. I know everything is different. And i know a korean Will have a harder time learning English that i would. But that's my point as well . It Will be easier for a dutch to learn English than to a portuguese. The grammar is not that similar. The way you use verbs the sentence structure is different as well. Obvly korean Will be way different but i was not talking about that on the first place. That can be 60% of English vocabulary but that doenst mean it's 100% of portuguese vocabulary i Said the common words would be that not that our entire vocabulary is that. Wich means we dont Share those 60% of common words. Plus The "daily used" words are really different from the "daily used" portuguese ones. Otherwise even my grandparents and parents would be able to read and understand what it would mean. I know you're comparing to a none european language. But i'm sticking to just portuguese and English.

She only tells you a few sentences which are really close to English, but a language like French is much more alike in vocabulary. Only French people can't speak English well because before in france English shows and series where all dubbed because kids didn't learn it that much in school and wouldn't be able to understand it fully with subs, but that was a mistake because you only learn more by listening to English.

네덜란드에서도 한국처럼 문법으로 영어를 배우나요?? 한국만 그렇게 배우는 거겠죠?
한국사람이 일본어 배우려면 어미 번화 다 공부하고 외워야 되는데 네덜란드->영어는 그 조차도 필요없음...어순 약간 달라지는 거나 동사의 시제변형만 알면됨...7살짜리가 영어해도 전혀 놀랍지 않음...
But Dutch is more similar to German. I have never learned the language in my whole life. Though i can read and understand it mostly.

우리나라 사람이 제주도말 맘만 먹음 배우는 정도 아닐까?한국인이 일본어 배우는 정도의 노력이 영어권 사람들이 스페인어나 프랑스어등 라틴유럽어 배우는 정도라는 소리를 들었다. 한국인이 영어를 한다는건 거꾸로 영어권 애들이 한국어를 배우는 정도의 노력인데 영어 잘 안된다고 외국어 학습능력이 떨어진다는 생각은 결코 하지말자.

우리나라 사람이 영어 못하는 이유는 영어권이 아니라서가 아니라, 잘못된 학습방법의 대물림에 있습니다.
언어권이 달라서 그래요, 일본어는 비슷해서 잘못된 공부법으로 공부해도 잘할 수 있음ㅋㅋㅋ
라틴어로 파생된 언어들이라 다 비슷함.
우리나라는 말하는 영어를 배우는것이 아니고 시험문제를 풀기위한 영문법을 공부합니다. 그래서 영어 한마디 못합니다. 아 한마디는 하는구나 헬로우~ 그리고 외국사람이 한국말 배울때 처음에 무조건 존칭어 부터 배우고 한국을 알만큼 알때 반말 배우면 됩니다. 이것저것 싫다 그러면 니네 나라로 가면 되구요. 언어는 어순이 같으면 빨리 배우고 어순이 다르면 디지게 배우기 힘듭니다. 즉 한국인은 일본어 금방 배웁니다. 왜? 어순이 같으니까. 중국인은 영어 금방 배웁니다. 왜? 어순이 영어와 중국어는 같습니다.
