I've got a Mikov Predator that uses a similar spring and almost identical lever mechanism as the higher end Leverlettos. The nice thing about it is that you can pop the springs out using just about any piece of thin metal, and all of a sudden it's flipper. Great for traveling where autos aren't legal.
Anyway, never saw this one before, kind of want one now. I love being able to see the mechanics of the lock. Some people would want to hide that, but I like it just the way it is. A quick search didn't turn up anything, so now I'm going to have to go on a mission to find one...

Interesting design and the release lever could be put inside of the scale with a slot and tab like a clutch lock. I'm sure the button could also be moved to a better location too. Kind of surprising that someone hasn't riffed on the design already, because it is a good one. With that spring you wouldn't have to use a stiletto style blade either, you could use about anything. Pretty cool.

I just wish protech would bring back the leaf spring or "bar spring" button opening autos. They never break really and the closing is like fall shut to the halfway spot . So it feels kind of premium ? Been saying that for years.

Would definatly be cool to see an updated modernized version of this knife. Change up the Lever to something that doesn't stick out so much and maybe a different scale design with some premium materials. Keep the full hollow but say S90V on the blade can definatly see it being a winner. Or do it budget style with micarta or G10 and 14C28N with the same changes mentioned. Lots of old designs that could be modernized. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

As I wrote in another comment here, these are fake Chinese knives. They're not made by AKC (Just fyi, AKC is the most faked brand on dozens of Chinese knives) and they're not DeShivs or the Leverletto series either (genuine Leverlettos are exclusively the Italian-style leverlock stilettos like the ones he shows partway through the video here. If you ever see the Leverletto name on any knife other than a leverlock stiletto, it's a fake). Anyway If this knife has an actual official name I don't know what it is; I've seen them branded as AKC, Colt, Leverletto, DeShivs, Benchmade, Gerber, Buck, S&W, Browning, Walther and several other brands and combinations thereof... Just last month I saw a Chinese seller with some Colt branded ones for $28 each on ebay. If you want to buy one I'd try there, search something like Colt button knife and set shipping location to China. Automatics are technically banned on ebay but you can find them if you know how to search...

Haha , yeah man . The old Italians all had the stiletto design Leverletto s . I inherited one and they’re pretty sweet for a user/collector piece . Real thin blade , no rust , good sound . I think they’re like $80-100 and people have to watch out for the fakes so use the darn link 😊 and get a good one.

  • @superdupergrover9857

    My thoughts?
Ditch the lever. IF, and only if, some extended testing confirms it works IRL, alter the... knife-open lockspring to have a 'flag' that bends down to the same position as the lever. The movement is opposite and less comfortable, but not really awkward IMO. It is just as, if not more, intuitive as before; furthermore, it could more easily be made ambidextrous.
The benefit is you have removed 1 or more parts, and taken a lot of complexity out. Downside is the activation force is higher, but you can move flag further forward and/or move the locking lug further back to balance that. Or keep the lever and change it from a bell crank to a simple cam. It might be more complex, but you have more design options and it's easier to make ambidextrous. Think modern pistol take down lever, but instead of a half-moon shape, it's an eccentric cylinder (style of camshaft).
I would also put a second locking lug on the sharp side of the blade to lock it closed. It would take almost zero extra effort to make, although my instincts say it wouldn't be quite as good as having a separate closed-knife lock. I can't explain why.
I wouldn't use a titanium spring at first. I'm no metallurgist, but while almost anything made from steel can be substituted with titanium, titanium is much fussier. Sure, it has a steel-like fatigue limit and most of it's strength, but it's less widely known, less understood... just a lot of tiny risk factors. Too much risk for what is an almost a new-to-market product. Save the titanium spring for the 2nd model, designer series, special edition, etc..
I would also memorize some of the material science technical jargon for the specification terms. You're starting to get far enough into the weeds where the definitions of such terms matter. And where taking a whole minute to explain what you're referring to will eat up a meaningful amount of screen time.

That is a switchblade. Illegal in NY State as it has a sprung blade.

Yeah, we all know Karen. I carry MULTIPLE "switchblades" daily in upstate New York, and the only problem is the LEO'S up here keep asking where I get my good quality blades.

@@kentmarsh6442That's cool. Like my police officer friend in Tonawanda told me, "If you do get in a fight with a legal knife, you only get charged with assault and not assault and possetion of an illegal weapon". It's a lifestyle choice one felony or two lol.
I carry a Cold Steel Tri-Lite 4" everyday, a deadly, fast opening fighting knife, which is perfectly legal here.

FYI *this is a Chinese "fake" knife. It is not made by AKC, and certainly not part of DeShivs' Leverletto series either.* Leverlettos are invented by Bill DeShivs and sold by him; that classic stiletto style with lever lock are the _only_ knives legitimately branded Leverletto (eg; Leverlock + Stiletto -- see where the brandname comes from?). This knife is NOT a Leverletto. *AKC is the No.1 most faked brand name on Chinese switchblades of all styles, and Bill DeShivs/Leverletto is the No.2 most faked brand. The Chinese put those names on any and every style of automatic knife, sometimes just one sometimes all three brands, even on knives where it makes no sense like this,* eg; Leverletto name on a knife that neither looks nor operates anything like a genuine Leverletto. I've also seen this specific knife branded for Colt, S&W, Buck, Gerber, Browning, and several other random gun and knife brands -- same exact design, same black handle and same blade finish, the Chinese factory just changes what brands printed on it.
You can find these on eBay right now for $20 branded as "Colt" knives. All of them ship direct from China which should be a hint too... Now I'm not saying these are total junk necessarily, China has come along way in knifemaking and they may well be decent knives if the blades are properly heat treated (many Chinese knives aren't). But point being *just be aware you're buying a Chinese knife here, regardless of how cool it is.* And it's a appears to be an original Chinese design at that, because again neither AKC nor DeShivs make a knife like this.

The first knife, I found out "the name" of the maker ! No prices, ? Why? I guess all these knife "retailers" gotta add on THEIR. "%" !! That's why I'll never go into any business , I don't want to get rich off of others sweat and hard work , then ripping off the one group of people who ANY retailer needs , the CONSUMER!!!!
That's also why knives are so expensive!!
The maker ( rightly so) works hard and long and most pricey fairly . But then you add everyone , every single person who touches the product adds THEIR % !
And the knives get more and more expensive!!
But it would be nice if all these knife channel's could put in even just a ball park price !! WE don't all wipe our asses with dollar bills !! NOT YET ANYWAY !

This sounds like a joke, but I so want it to be true.

    • @J.DeLaPoer
      @J.DeLaPoer 9 месяцев назад

It's true. Bill DeShivs invented the famous Leverletto knife. Yes it's his real name too. However as I wrote in another comment here, the knife in this video is a fake from China. They're not made by AKC (AKC is the most faked brand on hundreds of random Chinese knives) and they're not DeShivs or the Leverletto series either (genuine Leverlettos are exclusively the Italian-style leverlock stilettos like the ones he shows partway through the video here. If you ever see the Leverletto name on any knife other than a classic Italian stiletto with a leverlock, then it's a fake). Just be aware you're getting a Chinese knife that's priced at only ~$25 for good reason.
