Very disappointing response from LMD. Not the first time I’ve seen evidence of questionable business practices but after this I definitely wont be buying his knives. It’s completely ridiculous when makers try to bully honest knife reviewers into submission whenever something is criticized. When will they learn that they will always lose far more business by attacking a customer or reviewer than they ever would have from criticism in a review! The knife community doesn’t expect perfection… what we do expect is honesty, integrity and willingness to hear our suggestions! Some of these makers are their own worst enemy I swear!
Not to mention that he’s not the maker, he designed it but they made the errors during production. His response acted like Jerad insulted him personally. When in reality he pointed out issues that shouldn’t be on a $50 knife, let alone a $400 one.
Reminds me of a company called SOE. They make pouches, bags, etc that is supposedly duty quality. Never actually had anything from them so I can’t comment on their quality but they seem to make pretty awesome products. However, they are just like LMD, publicly bashing customers but just constantly. (Not sure if they still do because I stopped following their content a long time ago but I wouldn’t doubt it). Anyway yeah I completely agree with you on makers/designers being bullies towards their own communities and customer is very disappointing at best. But at least for me it makes you appreciate the companies with stellar customer service!

And Jared, I want you to know a lot of your followers are real with you. We will tell you if you are ever wrong about something, professionally or morally. This is called loyalty. We will be honest and real with you. You did nothing professionally wrong or morally wrong. A product was advertised as high grade but has issues a low grade knife would have so you told the truth. I can even tell through the video that detent was pretty much non existent, it’s like a gravity knife at that point. It truly is dangerous.
I don’t believe in the cancel culture, I also don’t believe in harassment so please people, don’t go over to this guy’s socials and bash him. He is in the wrong but we don’t want to seem like the villains even more than he already thinks we are for disagreeing with him.
Don’t buy his products if you don’t want to, but let’s not act like a mob of destruction toward someone and his career. Even if he may deserve it, let’s have mercy.

Great comment I agree 100%. All I’ve said was on his customer service post that I didn’t think his reply was warranted and that he was wrong. He owes Jerad an apology for that attack and for him getting a bad product(along with everyone else.)

Owning an original Field Duty and now the Field Duty EDC, the detents couldn't be anymore different from each other. I was absolutely shocked when I first deployed the knife using the hole. I failed it first try! That's how light of a detent it is. It's not even close to "medium" strength, as LM states in his IG post.
Though I'm not happy about a few things on the knife, and of course I will never condone LM's reaction and behavior to Jerad's review video, I'm also not going to stoop to said behavior myself by bashing LM. What happened was very unfortunate, but now people have more information that they can use when deciding to purchase or not to purchase future products of his.
Should I feel bad for immediately thinking "Liveleak videos" when "safety issues" was mentioned?

I'm relatively new to the knife community. I have a few Vosteed, Reate, Kershaw, Civivi & CJRB.
When I started getting into knives last year, you were the first knife channel I watched. I shared your enthusiasm and I learned a lot from your reviews. What happened with this guy is really unfortunate and absolutely deserved the response you gave him.
I just wanted to share my experience with your channel because I think situations like this can really get to you, I know it would piss me off.
Your reviews have really helped me enjoy my new hobby and steered me in the right direction as far as which knives to invest in and which ones I should stay away from.
I don't typically leave comments on videos and I'm really bad about subscribing. I hope by sharing my experience will encourage you to forget this B.S. and realize you're helping a lot of us enjoy our knife hobby. Thanks for everything

This must have been a tough video to make. It's a real shame. Mr Ma must be under a lot of stress when his long time fan favorite knife model isn't universally praised and was plagued with manufacturing delays, so much so that he felt he had to add a thanks to the orders. Still, no excuse for unkind behavior towards a long time fan, paying customer and respected community member. Here's hoping they can put this behind them.

Damn, that's so sad. I've followed you almost from the start. And I've always respected the way you do reviews. Balanced, very well balanced. I hope I don't get the same response from Tuya Knives. I have an issue with my Hive V2, and it has been weeks since I sent them an email and still no response. Anyway, keep doing what you do brother! ✌️
Try another email or reach out to them on other social media. Find out the person doing the repairs for that company, maybe they are on Instagram, reach out to them that way. A lot of times there's a USA rep doing repair in the states.
Its possible your email went to spam box or missed by accident.
I don't know much about that companies service and support, but maybe someone here can chime in on some other tips.
I didn’t know whether to give this review a thumbs up or thumbs down thumbs up would be for the way you handled this it was awesome thumbs down would be for the company that apparently didn’t want to hear the truth about their product so don’t worry about them you keep on doing what you do because you’re a great kid and you fucking do great work. I appreciate the transparency on your part. I can also understand that someone could take the review personally, especially if they were fully invested in the project. You never know what kind of supply chain issues they had or any other challenges along the way, that led to the lengthy delay in delivery. I hope it all works out for the best for everyone involved. When someone is passionate and proud of a project, they can easily react improperly instead of respond correctly to something. That’s all. Not condoning his reaction, rather trying to express that we are all experiencing the human condition together, and compassion for one another is what sees us all through the bad times. Together. No need for a feud. Neeves is obviously the better person here and understands how to respond. Lots of respect for J on that one…well stated, well thought out and well delivered

How people *handle* that pressure is an excellent indicator to that person's character: Liong Mah completely fails at this. I could sympathize with him if this situation stemmed from a rash comment on a livestream/podcast or something similar, but the fact that he took deliberate actions to go after Jerad is alarming.
Also, I'm not sure why you would feel compassion *or* sympathy for Liong Mah in this case. You're just assuming something happened with production or that he might have some personal issues going on. There's an equally high chance (and even higher imo, according to some of Liong's persisting actions such as deleting comments on his IG) that he doesn't think there's anything wrong with the knife or doesn't care about customers unless his brand is at risk. I just think you're giving him too much benefit of the doubt for something that honestly doesn't seem like a mistake on Liong's end
Have had a past similar to you, buddy. People say things without thinking about what a person has been through and what they have overcome. Jerad, you are 💯 percent a stand-up person. Hence, why the community stands behind you on this. I will never accept or buy a knife from any person or company that's acts in such a manner even if they pay me. Congratulations on posting this video. You at least addressed the issue to the community, unlike Liong Mah, that just seemed to sweep it under the rug. I’m a new subscriber, been a guitar gear, watch, lighter and glass obsessive and collector guy for so long with just a few knives, the bug caught me recently and you are by far my favorite knife content and channel. I like your passion, knowledge, fair critique, and your voice and presentation. That video you made about your past life was transparent, vulnerable strong, and inspiring for people to do good. I loved that so much. My doctoral dissertation in psychology ended up being about transparency, and you are fantastic in being straight up you. Much respect and love for that. Even the description of this video is carefully and caringly couched as your opinion. You’re the best, I am not yet familiar with Kara on the tube, but I’m sure I’ll be checking in and catching up on all you’ve both done. Your passion and connection to community says it all too. Jerad, you handled this perfectly, Mr. Mah did not. Unfortunately, this may be more of a problem in the near future with "boutique brand" knives, since there are many more designers using OEMs with little or no leverage to fix customer issues / warranty work due to increasing work backlogs.
Excellent video as always! Not what I expected but there was a lot of insight into it. You've always been on point with what you have to say in your reviews. I had no idea about your past but it makes me respect you not only as a knife reviewer, but as a human too. Calling someone out for who they used to be is definitely wrong. Big loves for what you went through. We all deserve compassion... even Liong Mah. He could be working through his own battles too.
Seems to me he thought you were in pocket and felt you got outta pocket when you did an unfavorable, but honest review. If anything, you showed integrity by doing an honest review. If I had anything to say in response, it would be, that they should have Never, let a product with so many issues reach the hands of a customer. I gained respect for you with this video. I have seen other channels do the same thing with knives that had issues.

I bought ONE of his knives(LiongMah Hawk marbled carbon fiber) and it is IMPOSSIBLE to use, the edge of the titanium near the flipper tab and around of the edge of handle/ti slabs IS SOOO SHARP you can’t even use it or grip it… you deploy it twice in a row your finger is almost bleeding, it’s THAT BAD(and I have rough work hands)…I wish I could send it to Jared for review, it’s mind blowing bad! If anyone wants it let me know, I will sell CHEAP!!

Your honesty and knowledge on the subject of knives is why I've been subbed to you for so long. His reaction was childish and unprofessional. You are most definitely NOT the only one I've heard has issues with this latest drop. I also know 2 people who have told me he's an egotistical ass after interacting with him, so unfortunately his reaction doesn't come as a surprise to me.
The Fuller Fanatic did 3 videos on Mah. Really opened up on Mah and the dishonesty. He had to remove them but you can still watch someone who did a reaction of the original videos. Those are still up.

I think Liong Mah has lost a lot of potential customers because, just as you stated, if he’s willing to treat someone who provides a ton of coverage to his products this way, how’s he gonna treat the average consumer. Whether these companies like it or not, RUclips reviewers bring a huge amount of attention to their knives, attention they might otherwise not receive. Liong Mah handled this like a petulant spoiled child who’s heard no for the first time and your response was level headed and mature. Just as the old saying goes, you reap what you sow, sow accordingly. Job well done.
He was maybe onto something with one thing he said though, maybe you shouldn’t handle knives, as much as you cut yourself. Just kidding brother, if I handled knives as much as you I’d have to be sponsored by Bandaids and blood transfusions. 😆

I saw your video on the Field Duty 3.5 that's having all these issues. It never felt unfair or egregiously critical at all. Just told it how it is. Guess some folks can't handle honesty and feel so slighted they resort to ad hominem attacks. And deleting negative comments doesn't make the problem go away. He ain't ready for all the backlash that's gonna follow this one.
Hopefully he humbles himself, apologizes, and makes good on delivering on his promises. There is redemption for this sorta stuff. Gota walk that walk, though.
Jared, you're wise to listen to all the feedback, whether it's positive or negative, about how you go about your business. It's always good to take everything in and sift through what's constructive vs. destructive criticism. Your channel will go far by listening and adjusting, but ultimately staying true to what you love to do. Don't blur those lines too much or you will end up not finding any joy in knives anymore.

I'm new to knife collecting. Don't get me wrong, I've owned pocket knives off and on for most of my 61 years on this earth, but in the last year I've started watching Knife reviews on RUclips and have started to buy some knives on a regular occasion. Your channel was one of the first channels that I found and started watching religiously to see what's out there and hear your comments regarding those knives. Let me add, your channel wasn't the first one I found, I found a bunch I didn't care for, yours was the first one I found that I felt you knew what you were talking about and that you were being honest on the reviews. Keep doing what you do, with the number of subscribers you have you must be doing something right!
Hey Jerad, you and MC are the first guys I go too when I need information on knives and to see knives I didn't know existed and your sharpening videos have helped me so much, you'll always have my support my Brother and thanks for all you do. I was interested in getting one of his knives at some point but that won't be happening now, maybe after making people wait a year and a half for a $400.00 production knife Liong should have made sure it was right before sending them out to people and attacking you for calling it out for what it was. Dear Jerad, be honest no matter what! I’m fairly new to the knife community and I consider you as one of the most sincere and honest reviewers out there. No matter the price, no matter the brand, no matter the land of origin you always review the knife in the best possible way. I learned a lot of you: detent, sharpening choil, access to the framelock, sharpening, …
It’s a shame that the community can be toxic sometimes and that some companies and reviewers are not open for criticism. I encountered some ‘hate’ myself with a reaction I made on a review of the Tactile Knife Rockwall, my first knife in magnacut. To make a long story short, I stated that I was underwhelmed with the knife because I had some QC problems: a screw was already stripped and the customer service didn’t handle it well (maybe because I’m from Europe). Immediately I was called a liar just for telling my opinion, my experience and findings. That's harsh!
You are one of the few reviewers who consider a knife as a tool, sometimes a very expensive tool, and analyse it as such: lock, detent, sharpness, ergonomics,… So please don’t let those ‘naggers’ tear you down, and keep on the good work!
Not sure what rock I've been under... Relative newbie/novice but I watch a lot of content from yourself and some others. I can see in your eyes that you are honest. That might sound weird, or self-important; but more of us have that skill than we might realize. I don't know your whole story, but as a person a little over a year sober; I am very much hoping he doesn't know you and was not taking that kind of shot at you. I will choose to believe that for now; and thank you for being so calm - which is keeping me calm. People screw up sometimes; I agree with your stance that it doesn't need to go further than this. You absolutely have a right to defend yourself though; and I, for one, will vote with my dollars until he proves he's as stand-up as you are.

We appreciate your honesty. And thank you for not being one of the sellouts. If I had a dollar for every time a reviewer said look at that drop shut action as the blade doesn't move I wouldn't have to work. A mah/reate at $380 needs to be perfect right out of the box. IMO most of his designs are mediocre and overpriced.

You’re my favorite knife channel for a reason Jared. You’re down to earth, you can tell you truly enjoy knives and enjoy sharing that enthusiasm with your viewers. You don’t mock your viewers like some other channels and you’re mindful that some of your viewers don’t have access to or the resources to get some of the knives you do. That’s important. Showing the value in knives of all different price points. Your honesty is equally as important. Had I purchsed one of those knives (I planned to buy one secondary)and it came like that, I would have been very disappointed and it likely would have kept me from buying his products in the future. Mr Mah sounds like a child and as an addict who’s been clean for 6 years… well… his comment made him sound like a disconnected, heartless clown. I’d say I hope someone close to him struggles with addiction but I won’t ever do that because I know how it can destroy you and the people around you. I’m on several FB & Reddit pages and your opinion of his knife is widely shared and not only with that model. Keep doing what you do, have pride in your honesty and viewers like myself will be along for the ride.

I am now more appreciative of your genuine honesty. It’s why every knife I’ve purchased on Jared’s informational review of them. Sticking to your principles clearly show character whereas Mr butthurt is showing his.
He should have said something like. “I appreciate you bringing attention to the areas of concern with our knife. I am having an emergency meeting with manufacturing and quality control along with finding out if there was a flaw in design. If not I am asking you to please inform your audience that we will pay the shipping to have anyone who purchased this knife sent in for our immediate repair or update to fix the issue or issues. If it cannot be remedied we will either issue a credit with a guarantee discount of 10% on another product or issue a refund in a timely manner.
