Thank God someone's speaking up on this. EDC has become a culture of grown ass men collecting toys they really want but never play with after a day. We could all use a lot more minimalist mentality in our lives
I agree, EDC culture seem like a bunch of weekend warriors collecting tools to show off rather than actually ever use
I use the pliers daily, sometimes at work when hoses have twisted themselves too tight, while riding dirt bikes, making woodpecker feeders, heating up nails to poke holes in the bottom of 5 gallon buckets and the list goes on. Can’t live without them!
Especially excessorize me, he really fell off
@@gigglewumpusyeah, that dude is weird. What's the deal with all dick doodles?
it is just jewelry for most people I guess. also, what is wrong with having toys? I say as someone who has spent like 30-40$ on said EDC jewelry this year (a couple of flashlights and a a cheap keyring blade), let people be happy. They may find joy (though it just might be a fool being parted with their greens, in which case let them learn and let survival of the fittest kick in).
I fully believe in carrying what matches your lifestyle and skill level. I worked as a mechanic for almost a decade in my 20s and 15 years later I still carry a basic set of tools in my car. I use those tools once a month because I recognize and find experiences to be useful. I don’t tell everyone to haul a set of metric sockets because they wouldn’t know what to do with them. Carry what you know how to use.
“Carry what you know how to use” well said.👍🏼
Agreed. And also, carry it appropriately. I worked construction for a decade, I have a lot of tools but now that I'm out, I don't carry any of them on me except for some in my vehicle for emergencies. If I need a wrench, I'll go grab my wrench. If I need pliers, I'll go grab my pliers. Even when I was in construction and found I needed something in my pocket to do quick little tasks, a leatherman filled that role perfectly.
What gets me is that you need a tool frequently enough to warrant carrying it in your pocket every day, you should just get a proper version of that tool and keep it nearby. I've never thought, "man I should go grab a miniature version of this tool to use".
@@FictionWeLiveInagreed…a4”-6” set of knopex work in a pinch…. They aren’t meant to replace an 8-10” pair for ease of use
@@user-yo9si2ee1x surely they can´t replace a full sized version of the same tool.
But they can replace the pliers of a Leatherman. And the combination of a small Knipex Alligator and a Victorinox SAK has advantages and disadvantages compared to the Leatherman - while having comparable size and weight.
Rule of thumb is: The higher the multi-functionality of a tool is, the worse gets its performance for a specific task.
My goal was, to replace my Leatherman Super Tool 300 with several more specialized tools while maintaining the same weight and volume and get better functionality.
....and I managed to do so for a lower price than the Leatherman originally had, so where is the problem with that?
@@Nachtmahr79 I guess gator enough man I can just say that any time I’ve needed a pair of pliers I needed needle nose not pump style
Man, everything you said is so accurate. I’m a lifelong tradesman and mechanic by training. A lot of the crap I see people who work white collar jobs carrying around is stuff I would only use occasionally in service of my actual trade job, let alone in life in general. A lot of the reviewers of tools on RUclips have little experience using them and it’s obvious by watching their videos. Blue collar has become a fad and is romanticized by the white collar. Meanwhile, the focus is on the tools and not the skills to utilize them.
Yeah like guys using an ARC bit driver to dismantle a car…just, just go get the proper tool or AAA
As a mechanic I carry the knipex, a pocket pry bar, pen, sharpie, tread depth gauge, pocket flashlight and a knife and its because over the years I got tired of walking back to the toolbox constantly. A edc out of necessity!
I feel you pain....
I don't think he's talking about tradesmen.
Same. A pen, pad, sharpie, Leatherman T4, pocket flashlight, knife, small wire cutter. I use them constantly, but I need my tool box to get jobs done.
I NEED those pliers!
My work edc is very similar, a pair of knipex, a knife, a flashlight, and a 4 way screwdriver. The screwdriver is only used if I'm miles away from the toolbox as they're not the best but they will suffice for the odd "can you just?" job
Train and don't carry what you don't use. Know your limits.
Train and use that shit
"The more you know the less you need", gramps always said that to me

@@MarineX there are some metal EDC tools I can tell you about that you may have not see before. Would you like to know ?
You absolutely earned a subscription with this. I’m not new to firearms or that aspect of EDC but I recently discovered this community. I’ve noticed the Ranger eyes, lanyards and beads on everything, useless tools, and the soft gate-keeping within the EDC community. Christ some of those pouches are impossible to get. I’m just trying to put a tool kit together for a fixes/bug out/get home bag specific to my needs
I have lots of EDC gear. Keys, phone, wallet, flashlight, knife, multitool, pen, sharpie, paper, pry tool, and yes, pliers and a driver. My rule is that, if I need it 3 times in a month, and don't have it, I'll give it a try. If I don't use it for a week, it goes on probation. If a month goes by without use, it loses its spot. Oh. Tissues. I go through several packs a week. And a paperclip.
I keep finding myself 40 feet up on a lift, needing a driver, or a side cutters, or a pry tool.
The one item I haven't figured out how not to carry is a bottle opener/cap lifter. Those things are like roaches.
The rest of the stuff you mentioned, not sure what it is. Apparently, the need never arose.
I used to carry so much shit every day. In my truck, my backpack, my nightstand, etc. Then I realized I had so much shit I don’t ever use and had clutter everywhere. The new rule is, if I haven’t touched it within 2 years I do not need it.
Great observation. OR if it no longer brings you joy when you pick it up...scrap it.
@@MarineXdid you just quote Marie Kando? 😅 I live by that code. Otherwise I’d have a horder-house.
It's true but you never know, when you are gonna need them. Some stuff are good to have like a folding knife and a flashlight.
lol thank you for your honesty. I got into the whole EDC thing recently-ish, so watched a lot of you you-tube guys, but I used all the info to make informed decisions on what I NEEDED to carry for ME, so I am right there with you on basically all this. appreciate your content!!
So i will say as a paramedic and handyman, my preferred multitool combo is the small red handled knipex pliers and a SAK pioneer. Can get so many small tasks done with those alone, the knipex jaws are just right for an O2 wrench as well. Also, the pioneer awl can be used to jimmy doors instead of booting them or breaking a window
I agree to a point. My choice is the smallest Knipex Cobra XS and Victorinox Farmer X. Smaller pliers and bigger knife. Basically the same.
How many doors and windows are you breaking a week?
That’s a great skill set, what would you recommend to someone who wanted to learn more about emergency medicine to keep people stable enough to get to a hospital?
@@drew22 not a medical professional but a farmer where most injuries are from heavy equipment and similar to what happens in military. The best items to have are clotting bandages, tourniquets, chest seals, decompression needles, and nasopharyngeal airway. You need some training to use these, but the decomp needle and tourniquet in particular can buy 30 minutes or more that saves a life before medevac. Most all equipment or gunshot injury deaths are from bleeding out or tension pneumothorax.
As a maintenance tech in a factory the knipex 5 inch pliers are my edc. They are extremely useful with the large amount of nuts and bolts i deal with.
Same here, I’m a millwright.
Im not into the whole EDC thing, I just carry a decent pocket knife. I think this edc culture is wild and totally agree with you on all points. If it makes your life easier for what you do day to day, sure, even if you find something cool or fun, sure. But needing to buy everything because of the latest product or tiny upgrade in material of something is wild consumerism and there's so many people pushing niche products on everyone.
@@TorchofWisdom-wo9fy whole heartedly agree
I've got a small knipex pliers wrench in my travel EDC. Honestly, all it gets used for is taking off showerheads in hotels so I can pull out the flow restrictor if the water pressure sucks. Actually makes a huge difference sometimes, especially if the filter is also full of junk and needs cleaning. But definitely not especially necessary haha
That is the EXACT reason I carried a pair of slip joint pliers in my suitcase for 20 years! I can't even count the number of hotel shower heads I've removed and gutted :)
Very well thought out…we all walk a different path and need or want different things to get us through our days. For anyone that watched this entire video I feel they should have gotten the true meaning of it! Great job X 🤍
Agree, I’m an Electrician and I have my trade tools that remain in my work tool bag. My EDC, is simple, and more importantly effective regardless of me being at work, or going to the Grocery Store. Flashlight, multi tool, pen, notebook, knife, wallet, and my phone.
As a plumber it hurts me that my edc is the same as a sparky.😂 Well said about the tools for work 👍
Too much. Carrying a flashlight is silly when it's on your phone. Having a wallet isn't as efficient as having a wallet phone case. Then all you need is key, knife, bottle opener. You don't need a notepad, your phone does that
Simple but effective
@@xsamuraibear947I couldn’t disagree with you more on every point you’ve just made.
I use a flashlight daily at work and at home, it preserves my phones battery and is much brighter than a phone flashlight. I do carry a wallet phone case but it does come with the risk of losing BOTH your phone and all of your money and cards at the same time. If you need a bottle opener to open a bottle, you're a wuss. I always put shit in my phone's notebook to then forget about it and not look at it until a week later. Shit written on a physical notepad gets done. Different strokes for different folks...
I was at the WTC in 93 and then again 2001.... super storm sandy as a police officer.... Now in retirement I am getting into EDC and emergency boxes in my homes... I now am watching some RUclipsrs that care more about how there kits looks like and color match... A agree with you 100%. Carry what you need and prayer you never need it...
GAS - gear addiction syndrome. We all get it sooner or later. Gotta let that pass and move on with your life. Great video… outstanding as usual. Thank you for sharing your perspective.
Luckily im better with funds than i was in my 20s. Idgaf about posting on gram, but lurking on gram and seeing new gear every day would have run my pockets back then.
@@ethansmith9065 With age comes common sense for some i spent alot of money trying to find that "perfect edc" only now it seems i have 3 knives in rotation Esee xancudo fixed blade, spyderco endela and dragonfly both in k390 simply because i like the steel and its performance and i don't mind putting some oil on the blade to inhibit rust luckily i never fell into the titanium gear trap cause fuck that shit its overpriced and most people who carry that shit don't use their gear....
EDC saturation happens to all of us. Then one day we realize: how many of these amazing, expensive tactical folding knives do I need?
My sock drawer had like $2K in covetable Emerson or Benchmade or whoever’s wonder tool in it. “My ‘stash.” I eventually started giving all my stuff away to good people at graduation events.
I have one favorite tactical folder that I like that goes everywhere with me. Done.
Surefire and Pelican duke it out for my current EDC flashlight. But I carry only one with a few backups in the truck or at home.
I am equipped, I am trained and I am confident in what I got.
As a Veteran I demonstrate a lot of RESTRAINT daily, for many things and on many fronts.
Yes, it is cool, yes, I like it, no, I don’t need it, no, it’s not better than what I already have, yes, it’s a great price, but I will pass now, thank you. If it was truly better kit than I might look at if for a second or two longer, but I probably don’t need it anyway.
Great video my dude.
All our EDC starts off “too extra” and then we streamline to what truly must be carried.
RESTRAINT is the word of the day. 😎✌️
Totally am with you. When I was just starting out I had little money but enjoyed a knives and gear and tools etc. 20 plus years later I am drowning in stuff. As uncool as it may be I always seem to carry a SAK, $10 AAA olight, pen and a hanky. If I am doing odd jobs around the place I'll also carry a leatherman. After being a traidsman for years I realize that when deciding to do a job I bring the Real tools. It's just being real. eBay and give aways now until I'm down to the core items plus a few maybe.
I have heard it said to look at what men carried and did in the past and learn from that as a good starting place
Function is all I care about. Thanks for making me aware of tools over the years. Field service engineer here. your channel has helped me fine tune my travel tools.
I agree with your sentiment. I have a titanium pry bar that has 0 use, while my regular inexpensive Gerber mullet gets used all the time. I do like titanium stuff, but I also don't worry about paying rent because I bought stuff I don't need. I think it's even dangerous for people to buy stuff just because it feels good...
lol love the honesty
I've slowly been carrying less over the years. The realisation that I actually never used most of it was a key moment.
I now have a little table near my door. Depending on the circumstances of my day, I'll take what I think I might need.
It's rarely more than a Swiss army knife and, if it's dark, a torch.
My bit set, my defence pen, my pry bar, first aid kit, my waterproof notebook, my survival credit card etc, gather dust.
Let them gather dust then.
I totally agree with you, but I would like to point out that it seems better that you have a table with stuff that collect dust and dont need them then not have those dust collectors and need them.
You made it perfect for yourself : got them and keep what you dont need to carry at home.
Every month I have to move some stuff from my backpack, because I put them there for one day, and forget them in after that.
So within few weeks I have some stuff that are totally not needed 😂😂
@@dreadfulldimitri It all adds to the fun 😄 I still get the same happening to me, but it's usually a Chocolate bar that I've forgotten is in my bag. And when I find it accidentally, it's like Christmas day 😄
As a Marine as well Semper Fi brother. Finally someone on here talking sense of this stuff. Carry what you use the rest is window dressing!
When I was a lot younger I had what I called The Margaritaville Tool Kit.
It is a butter knife, a roll of duck tape and a pair of pliers.
The rule is ‘if you can’t fix it with that get a new one or do without it’.
Notice that 2/3 of it comes from a thrift store!
Couldn’t agree more, I’m an electrician, I own multiple sizes of cobras and pliers wrenches from knives. They stay in my work bag, in my work van. I can count on one hand the amount of times I was out of the house for personal reasons and thought my cobras would help a situation. I’m not into the whole edc thing, I just have my phone, wallet, keys, and a small leather man and flashlight on me and didn’t realize edc was a thing, but when my buddy who works a desk job showed me he brings a pair of cobras with him everywhere he goes i just couldn’t understand why!
Fellow electrician (maintenance). Everyone develops their edc for their life. Have fun finding what you need and share.
Texas Sparky here. My tiny knipex cobras stay in my EDC bag and actually do come in handy when I'm not in the work truck. Not terribly often, but they have been just the ticket on occasion. I am into the whole EDC thing and I actually share your opinion that most things people put in their pockets are just bloat for the sake of flashy gear. 9 times out of 10 a real tool is the best option for a task, and if your within a few steps of that real tool its faster to just go and get it than to struggle with the tiny version of it that fits in your pocket.
I carry a full set of titanium eatin utensils in my bag everyday. They're wrapped in a hank held together with a ranger band, I use em twice if not three times a week minimum, they weigh less than if they were stainless and that's important for something I carry every day in my bag. Straw for saving the turtles, chopsticks cause they're more useful than a fork, and spoon. It's the best use for titanium.
I use the fork and spoon snow peak combo daily. Bought the chopsticks, but they are slippery and difficult to manipulate. Wood ones are easier.
Wtf are you doing that you need them 3 times a week?
@@clydefrog203 Italian ice is maybe the best and cheapest thing for a hot summer day and a metal spoon is 400x better than a plastic pos.
Straw for milkshakes and slurpees or something the like, I need calories as I am 120 lbs after a thanksgiving meal and soaking wet.
Chopsticks with a chopstick stand to save my fingers from having to touch my food with gross unwashed hands while maybe working here and there.
And clean em off with a napkin and then alcohol wipes, and the straw has a brush in it so I can clean it at any time.
100% disagree on the Knipex Cobra. They have been my favorite pliers for 15+ years. Nothing beats them. I love them because they work really well and I use them. I’ve tried just about every other plier and have yet to find anything close in quality and functionality.
100% agree on the overall message of the video. Don’t keep up with the Jones’s!
I think not everyone needs one actually.
For an handyman or a tech, yeah they are the best. However not everybody uses such stuff.
I do have these because I use them at work :)
I think his message is about this 😊
He didn't said that they are bad. He said that most people don't need them - it's hard to disagree with such a point
Same could be said for bugout bags/pouches etc... realistically 99% of people will NEVER use them for their purpose and 100% will never use them to get home from the post apocalyptic grocery store run a few miles from their house! None the less... "This is what I have in my get home/bugout bag/pouch" is everywhere! Point is, buy whatever the hell floats your boat! If you use it good on ya, if you don't and you're just a collector, who am I to gaf what you do with your time and money! Don't know why people worry so damn much about what someone else does, there's no rules to edc or what you carry! Solid vid man!!
Guy spitting facts! I nearly got sucked into the Knipex and mini bit driver black hole, but when I just thought about it I realised that my adjustable wrench, combination pliers, and SAK pliers covered everything I need (plus the inbuilt added functions). My mini bit needs are more than covered by a mini screwdriver handle and bits I bought at my local hardware shop for a fiver.
Agreed, carry what you need when you need it. I am a professional mechanic and what I carry on me at work is totally different than what I carry on my off days (more basic) I do use Knipex at work though 😅 great video. New Sub 👍
I felt personally attacked when you said Knipex... 🤣 But seriously, I do use the pliers on whatever Leatherman I have on me all the time. I keep telling myself the Knipex is going to be that much better, but usually its in my bag, and a Leatherman is in my pocket, so it gets used first.
Carry them if you use them! Just don't feel the need to buy stuff, especially because of use influencers
Man I agree 100% I bought a cheap set of small pliers to see if I'd like to carry em even had a old sheath that fit em... and found out I missed my leatherman wave... so I went back to it... I did put the rebar pliers in my leatherman wave+
mannn, im 15 years old and i work a labor job with my dad, and the 5 inch pliers have saved my ass many times, i am so glad that i got em, but as marine X said, dont buy it for the hype, buy it for your personal needs
I only carry what I use, that includes a multitool with drivers, a knife, and a flashlight. Many influencers only have stuff that looks prisitine, my stuff doesn't, btw wtaf is a peasant? None of us are Lords, that being said I do like my Svord Peasant 🙃@@MarineX
On the go bit driver. True. Makes no sense. Generally, a thumb-tightening does the job until you get home. It's one thing if you're out in the field or camping, it's another when you're 15 minutes from home.
Very refreshing. I teach bushcraft for a living and only carry 3 or 4 things depending what I am doing.
I carry knipex pliers at work, and they're fantastic. The design is excellent with the way they cam in tighter the harder you turn them, and the materials are great - 61 hrc teeth never wear out so they end up cheaper over a few years if you use them a lot. My large pair are used every day for the last 20 years and still work just as well as they did when they were new. I have a small pair in my work trousers pocket and I love them.
I never ever carry them outside of work, even though I own them, when do I need to tighten plumbing unions outside of work or the home?
They'd be very useful on a motorcycle I suppose but otherwise if you can't do it with a sak and a flashlight you should be using proper tools!
Prybars are the same. The one on my work keys gets used, the one on my car keys just looks cool and never gets used...
Finally, someone is honest and speaks the truth!
Outstanding video and spot on! Thank you!
Respect on this segment. I see people, including myself getting sucked down this trap in the beginning of their journey. Thanks for bringing light to the subject.
Awesome take! This coming from a guy who’s probably going to add 4lbs of EDC gear to my belt and pockets, because I like being prepared and use it often enough. But your message has the right purpose and context.
The Knipex pliers wrench is amazing for bikes. I ride for exercise and you can slip those in your pocket and barely notice they're there.
The nuts on a bike cant be gettin torn up so normal pliers dont work. The adjustable wrenches tend to round off the nut as well. The knipex is kinda the perfect tool in that way.
There's no way those tiny pliers give you enough leverage to tighten or even loosen a bike wheel. Ask me how I know 🙄
@@TurnipGreen Ok, ask me how I know they will work
@FidelCashflowYT Again. You're not getting the proper leverage. So your stuff isn't tight to begin with. So it just keeps vibrating loose. But you do you, my man
@@TurnipGreen I have three bikes to keep maintenance up on. Storing them inside keeps a lot of issues away but they're still bound to need some TLC now and then.
I use the knipex for the brake parts. Don't need leverage, the parts are small, and the knipex is good for tight spaces like the back brakes attach point.
The wheels are fine, rarely have to tighten those, but the knipex can do it. Idk what your exp has been, idk why you seem so dead set on telling me what tools work for my personal circumstances, but it's kinda odd, I'll be honest.
100% agreeable. If you don't have a use for it, don't waste your money (which is getting in shorter supply anyway). Said by the guy who buys too many flashlights, but then I COLLECT them, and have since I was maybe 8 or 10.
I have bit drivers in my tool bag, but not in my EDC. Titanium gives me no benefit worth its price. I don't have any Knipex. I hadn't heard of Ultem. Lanyards are most often a space-wasting, gangly irritant.
Love the practical and actual use focus of this video. It is crazy all the stupid stuff people say they need to carry on a daily basis. I hate having my pockets stuffed, especially in dress/business casual pants. A wallet, a knife, small flashlight, pen, notecard, and a self defense tool is all I carry. Any other tools or other things that I might need are in a box in my truck. And I don't run out to buy the fanciest thing available. Also, fountain pens are stupidly impractical for real world use. They just don't have the versatility for an EDC item.
Definitely some good points. I have what i call my edc toolkit, but i dont carry it with me, it stays by my desk. And it does have a knipex plier and bit set, but i only use it when i need to fix something, and i only do that at my desk.
I agree, if you want it or think its cool, go for it. But not just because it's popular and everyone else is getting it.
I just started building my own edc a few weeks ago, but I've been doing it specifically for work purposes so I need an actual large variety of tools that fit into a small form factor that I won't feel like gets in my way. I've been buying niche tools that fit my specific needs for like $2-20 at the most the majority of the time and then I discovered these edc channels and almost spit out my coffee at the prices these people were paying, and for products I see as less versatile and compact as the cheap stuff I bought. You are the first edc creator that's aligned with my sentiments so far, functionality is king.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and I stick by it…
Most EDC guys are just F-in weirdo hoarders who moved from action figures to obscenely overpriced grown-man gear toys.
I’m a knife hoarder.
Guilty as charged.
I collect knives.
I collect them, I don’t need them at all.
I need maybe 3.
One for my pocket, one for my truck, one for the toolbox.
But if I have one in my pocket, I don’t really need the other two now do I?
I use them to open boxes and packages, cut random normal stuff, fidget with, and that’s it.
In reality, most EDC stuff is just pretty damn stupid.
I’m already sick of titanium everything.
Especially smooth titanium with no nothing.
No milling, no color, no nothing.
Great… your very expensive knife looks like a freaking gray crayon.
Yawn.
Who the F carries pliers?
Plumbers.
Pliers! GTFO here with that noise!
I’ve NEVER once carried pliers in my life.
And never once was in a situation where I thought, “damn if I only had some EDC pliers I could tighten this here widget and save the day!”
Lanyards are ridiculous.
Lanyard beads are way more ridiculouser.
Ultem is the ugliest crap I’ve ever seen!
Reminds me of BakeLite from the 70s (Google it).
I’ll never have Ultem anything.
Titanium Tactical pens!

You’re never going to stab anybody in the throat with your Titanium Tactical pen and then use it to fill out a police report.
NEVER!
Just stop already!
(You had a ninja throwing star back in the day didn’t you?!)
Pry bars.
Really?
Because dudes just pry stuff all day.
Honestly can’t remember the last time I had to pry something… and I’m old AF!
Needing stuff for your job is one thing.
Carrying rando crap for no reason is altogether different.
Buying rando crap because some bobblehead on social media had it sent to him for free, and then lauded it as the greatest thing ever, is just next-level sheepleness.
Resist groupthink.
Do not comply.
Every knife is not the greatest.
Pliers are for plumbers.
Titanium Tactical Pens are for mall ninjas.
Pry bars are not super ultra useful.
Lanyards are dorky.
Ultem is ugly.
That is all.
Good video, brother!
👊🏻
Amen and spot on!!!
I would like to buy you 2 or 11 beers.
Perfect analysis. I make it a habit to edit my work and personal vehicle tool bags twice a year. Each time I evaluate the utility of the tools and they either go back in the bag or in the home tool box. My home tool box gets a little fuller every time.
I used to carry a multitool every day but eventually switched over to Knipex Cobra pliers and a small pry bar as the only thing I ever used the multitool for was for the pliers and as a pry tool. I work in a warehouse and use both the Knipex and pry bar at least a few times a week. I don't need them every day but it is nice to have it on those occasions when I need to use them at work.
Actually I am in a wheelchair and the Pliers you are making fun of are straight up perfect. I use those pliers to adjust my detachable wheels axles on my Titanium ultralight wheelchair. So yup yup some of us seriously use and need to carry the pliers. The ones in your thumbnail are seriously perfect for a wheelchair. I am most definitely using those pliers. Just saying
nice. I made an entire EDC accessibility video, so I get it.
I'll second the perfection of the small knipex pliers for wheelchair use.
I think the concept of the video is on-target.
However, in ALL cases actual, functional specific use overrides the general.
Always go with what works.
Bro..100% agree..I always go against the grain..what the herd buys I don’t..great video..love it..speak the truth
Why? Don't get me wrong, I 100% agree on what is said in the video because ones EDC should be personal, but at the same time, there is nothing wrong with getting ideas from the herd. I have got ideas from the herd and my EDC is still likely unique.
@@mrblackkai I don’t follow..it actually disgusts me..EDC is mostly a herd mentality..like sheep follow a Shepard, people follow influencers..I don’t and I tell people not to follow me either..now it’s not everyone but a large majority
@@mrblackkai getting ideas is one thing but I mean blindly buying things because Bob has it and he has 100K followers..ideas is making up your own mind and decisions..a large group of people buy based on what they are told..it’s sad actually
I’ve never even heard of the last thing. I think it was fun in the beginning but then you realize eventually that you just want to carry what you actually use because all the rest just takes up space.
This is awesome!!!! I have a basic back pack with some shit in it that stays in my truck, having said that. I've had people ask why I don't carry a multi tool...I have 27 pack out boxes with damn near every tool in it to build a house in my truck at all times. What the hell I need a multi tool for. Lol. Good stuff brother..keep it coming!!!!!
I’m an HVAC technician by trade and I can tell you that carrying around Knipex pliers and a Swiss Army knife every day with you is silly. If anyone is doing real work with there two tools, I can almost guarantee it takes you 4x as long to make your repairs then someone with a tool bag full of actual tools. I get that it’s handy in a pinch but you don’t need to carry these around with you every day of the week.
A leatherman is always on my belt, its got me out of many pinches. It has a bit driver, and set of bits
@@redrustyhill2Use my leatherman daily. Won't leave home without it.
@michealbates6369 just went to grab my leatherman a few minutes ago and its not in its pouch. 🤬😱
@@redrustyhill2 Oh no 😂😂 I've had that happen before. The worst feeling.
I couldn't have said it better. What I find funny about all the EDC bullshit that's on RUclips will be the fact some chair jockey will sit in front of his computer and rub one out looking at some $450 lockblade knife they have zero need or use for just because their favorite RUclipsr said it'll make you look cool and you'll be the next Bear Grylls without ever leaving your mom's basement. Back in the day EDC used to mainly cover what firearm, magazines, holsters, mag or speedloader carriers, knives, watches etc. Gear basically. Now it's some club that programers and offcie workers and people that hardly ever go outside much less get into a dangerous situration other than the line at Starbucks in the morning. LOL I think it's great myself. Thanks for sharing. Someone needed to say those things you talked about.
I 100% agree. Too many people have a lot of stuff on them and call it "EDC". I carry wallet, cell, keys, knife, flashlight and a LTC kit. I work at a car dealer as a back counterman, but I also double as a parts delivery driver, so I decided to learn some medical in case of accidents, which are a common occurrence because people can't drive for anything. My secondary job is on call, as a computer tech, so I do have a bit driver set, because all those damn screws are different sizes. I don't normally carry it on me, but its in my car for when I need it.
Good words said! I always carry redundancies except I do carrry a sharpening stone and a leatherman for basic repairs
Thank you for saying what I was thinking! I have been needing to scale down my edc this video helped me validate my decision.
Broooooo 🙌 Thank you for calling ALL of this crap out. Real dudes who are just doing everyday shit, don’t care about lanyards, baby pliers, etc.
Love the message, man. If you want it, need it, then no one is stopping you from getting it. But it was a good reminder for me personally to check myself, and not get caught up with the herd mentality and buy things I dont need, nor will realitically use on any consistent basis.
Brother the bit driver segment had me cracking up. SO accurate! Great content my friend🤘🏼
Brother, truer words have never been spoken. I feel like youre saying what ive been thinking for the last 3-5 years in regards to all this goofball edc gear. Not that i dont have tons of this goofy stuff, i definitely do, but ive learned that a multi tool, a knife and my firearm is all i need, i dont need a precision driver with three different 2"-4" 'prybars' and yadda yadda yadda, the basics are enough. Good content my guy, keep up the good work!
I'm glad someone said it. I carry a sack farmer and a bic lighter and a plastic card magnifier every day. If I need some cordage or bigger tools or something else I don't carry on my body I go to my truck. That being said I do like watching videos because someone may carry something that I may find useful. And I actually would use a tiny set of knipex pliers. I broke my 4" channel locks but they would again stay in the truck. Good video man.
Some of these EDC pics need to include the carpenter's trousers you'd have to wear to carry them!
If anyone ever mentions "curating" this stuff they aren't actually worried about being prepared, they're just using nicely made things as masculine jewellery.
Totally agree and can’t believe what folks pay for a knippex. I do have multiple tongue and groove pliers, from huge to tiny and carry a tiny one daily well before I found this EDC thing. That type of pliers is gold, because they don’t F up a bolt or nut like standard pliers does. To me this EDC thing has given me a much more efficient way to carry all the crap I have carried for years!
At work, I often need just a box cutter, a PH2 screwdriver with a long shank, and a good flashlight with a magnet on it. That's it. I find that when I'm at home, I often need nothing more than that, too. Perhaps also a nice ratchet set, combination wrenches, and crescent wrench. Those things can get 98% of my EDC and home jobs done. I enjoyed your take on this topic
LOVE THIS! The best video I have seen in years!
Kinippix, Get a pair of real channel locks. Same goes for Leatherman and the imitators, get a real pair of plyers/screw driver.. Titanium knives, I've been carrying the same knife for 50 years. Carbon steel, Delrin scales, with lanyard. The lanyard is a loop of rawhide bootlace that just fits over my hand and onto my wrist so I can use both hands and still have the knife dangling at hand. Safety Nazis shut up. Just because your uncoordinated and fearful don't mean the rest of us are. No fancy beads, knots, colored twine. And yes the knife gets used to open gain sacks, cut rope, string, sticks, meat, peal potato's, apples, spread peanut butter, clean battery terminals, clean game and fish, etc., etc., etc., it hasn't killed me yet.
A good knife and a P38 on your keyring or in your wallet and your pretty damn well set.
Mad respect for you & the truths you speak. Got lots of Knipex but their place is in a tooobox, not a pocket.
Leatherman Wave+ or P4, SwissChsmp & a Microstream USB have been doing most everything I need for years, and Tbh, some days the SwissChamp feels like overkill.
I’m glad I watch your vid. Lol you brought me back to reality. I was putting together this edc pouch when all I used to do is carry a leather man my whole life. Ever since this edc craze on you tube the algorithm has me buyin all this crap. I don’t need. Going back to my old way less is more. Thank you
Man, this straight up made me ditch my screwdriver style bit driver; because you're right. I shouldn't be offering to tune up people's knives on the spot, and I carry redundancies myself. Once you pointed that out, I immediately took out my driver and realized I was saving space in my sling. Good shit bro.
Well said 👏
I know people that just buy stuff only to show off but never use.
I own multiple multi tools, EDC gadgets and pocket knife, but with time I realized all I need is something basic to get by. SAK huntsman, Buck 112, mini flashlight and one hex key.
A really refreshing view. I have been trying to pare down my edc to a micro edc kit and it's surprising how little most standard edc kit is used. I have a pouch to cover lots of bases but this isn't edc. My edc is as small as SAK and a small FAK of bandaids and painkillers and if it's night I include a keychain flashlight but that is what I found is all I need on a daily basis (and none of it is Titanium)
Great video. Makes a lot of sense. thanks for sharing
I don’t carry a pair of XS Cobra on my person, but they stay in behind my leatherman in its pouch, which I keep in my work backpack. I’m not using them everyday, but they are handy around work at least once a week and saves me wandering a half mile to a tool box. I’ve found they are also the perfect size for getting behind and pulling wire brushes off of grinders, without having to go find the right size spanner.
Most of the edc stuff is only useful at work since I can't carry a tool box into the plant everyday. The knipex and flash light comes in handy a lot. The $25 multi tool covers basically everything else. When not at work a large one hand opening SAK is more than enough.
One point for lanyards I'd add (IF applicable to YOU), is they give you a little something extra to grip on if you're wearing thick gloves. This has come in handy several times working construction/being outdoors in cold weather.
G10 knife scales offer greater grip than Ti scales. Also, you can dye them to your preference, where with Al or Ti, you need to anodize, which uses a completely different setup.
Tritium on a lanyard isn't a bad option if your tool doesn't have a tritium insert option. Also, 550 paracord is relatively inexpensive, and a fun hobby when you're bored.
I was in that rabbit hole for a while with leatherman multitools. I work in construction btw and realized that i was just collecting at the end of the day, because powertools and dedicated tools are the only way to go,so i sold EVERYTHING and kept just an old 2006 beat up victorinox spirit. That’s the only thing i carry along with a Milwaukee knife AT WORK. when i come home or go out the only thing with me is a micra on my key.
💯 correct. Not once in 10 years of edc did I need a pry bar or pair of pliers when I’m not at work. If I’m doing construction, I have tools in a bag. For work I have a bag of tools. All I keep is a knife, small MT, and that’s it. Never needed anything extra.
I think "EDC" is a silly craze...but those Knipex wrench plyers are the second most used tool in my tool belt at work right after my 11 in 1 Klein screwdriver! I would never cary it around all the time, it lives in my tool belt and I put that on when I need to go fix stuff at work.
I flickin LOVE those Knipex wrench plyers!
Damn good program you have! I just found your channel and you are spot on with all the unnecessary shit people think they need to carry!
I carry a toolcheck+ from wera on a daily basis as a teacher. I really don't need it often. But if I need this, i am so glad to have this on hand.
The battery of your balance died and it's secured by a screw? Fear not!
Your bike needs some adjustment? This got you covered!
The benches on the schoolyard are loose? You can tighten them!
I also bring a Knipex Plier Pair and some chirurgic pliers from Ebay for a few bucks... This brought me as far as you can go without hurting my back too much.
I don't hear "go pound sand" enough anymore. I'm bringing this back to my daily vocabulary. Thanks for the reminder 😆
Just came across this video and I have to say, you earned a sub. Well spoken, filmed great, and full of useful content. Love it
Agree with everything except the Knipex deal.
The 5” cobra is great for holding/turning small round things and the 5” pliers wrench are great for pressing/clamping flat items.
Thank you Mr. Marine X!! It has to be said that most of this stuff are way too hyped. I work in IT and my EDC is pilot G2, sharpie, spyderco para3 LW, knipex pliers (for removing paper jams) and knafs bit driver.
I don’t need any Ultem, titanium, or leather man (multi-tool that doesn’t do anything well, just barely good enough)
Thank you! So much of what I see people carrying comes off as insecurity and bragging.
So true! Carry what you need and need what you carry.
I’m a fire alarm tech and love Knipex, have 6 pairs of cobras on my work truck and guess what, they all stay on the work truck.
To be fair, the Knipex XS is the part of my EDC that I use the least. However, every few days I need to tighten or grab something, and I am always glad to have them on my person. They are wrench, pliers, and tweezers in one. I absolutely love them and use them all the time.
I've had 2 knipex pliers in my toolbag for years. All I carry in my pockets is the wallet with keys attached by chain (so I don't lose them), a cheap but sturdy Buck pocket knife, and a handkerchief.
Wow, I hear what you’re saying! That being said, my SAK and Cobra are used quite frequently, but I carry them in a backpack at work. I don’t keep em on me. I honestly got out of the EDC game the day I bought my Civivi Mandate. It’s basically a nicer utility knife with an almost kiridashi style replaceable blade. It’s the perfect work knife (for me, in a warehouse setting opening packages and bags mostly, and breaking down boxes occasionally), I’ve been carrying it for a couple years now and I’m STILL on the original blade. Because I can actually sharpen it! Now, I buy knives if I really like them and they serve a use, not because I saw it on the gram or FB. Unfortunately though… I have moved on to watches…
Hell yeah I totally agree, especially lanyards and Ultem.
Great video!
Just subbed. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Subscribed! Enjoying your videos. I appreciate the value added content in which you provide.
I watch a lot of videos and its nice to see someone say what was needed. Only carry what you actually need. We don't need to fill out pockets with so much stuff. EDC should be simple. Everything else can be put in a bag and separate from your body. It also doesn't need to be super expensive. Find the balance between cost and quality
Grateful for you saying what needs to be said. Thank you.
About seven years ago I got swept up into the edc thing, especially knives, bug out bags, flashlights, etc. Spent over $40k. Over 200 knives that just stayed in cases and I'd fiddle with them now and then.
Finally woke up, sold 140 knives and have only bought a couple in the last two years.
Yea big facts, I have the knipex pouch with both water pump and wrench pliers, with a Wera screwdriver. But this is for work EDC, on weekends I only carry a leatherman
As someone who carries a knipex and a bit driver who uses my stuff every day, you articulated all of the caveats and yeah-buts I try to explain to people when I tell them my carry isn't for everyone.
Just found your video for the first time. Loved it!
My edc is a Leatherman wave+, the ratcheting tool and a nitecore tini 2. I do service work and I use my tools almost everyday. A good multitool and a light has you covered for just about anything.
On the knipex front just get a set of 12"cobra or alligator the small ones struggle with most nuts over 13mm (1/2") hex head bolts which you can do with a leatherman or Gerber they live in my cars trunk tool kit along with a decent 12" adjustable spanner
One bit of EDC car kit that gets lots of use is the WERA KRAFTFORM KOMPAKT screwdriver set aimed at electricians but a good basic compact screwdriver set
Haha you’re killing me with the Knippix. I love them, but I have one size up and I keep it in the front pocket of my sling pack, because I’m currently renovating 4 apartments (and managing 4 more. Doing construction or repairs alone I always need another hand. But I feel you, this is more about “don’t feel like you need to buy all this stuff if you truly won’t use it all the time”.
I personally use construction stuff a whole lot more than my self defense, survival, medical stuff. - For me a mini ratcheting driver/socket kit, box knife, sharpies, tape measure, graph notebook, external charger, flashlight, duct tape/painters tape, hex/torq key sets, lock pick kit, pry bar, torch, east wing hammer, knipex cobra, knipex needle nose, knipex nippers, bolt cutters, channel lock’s adj. slim jaw wrench (my slim jaw homie). Gotta have the go-bag for power tools too- Milwaukee impact driver, hackzall.. I know I’m forgetting shit but who cares.
But that’s my EDC based on my current life situation. When our life changes - so should our kit. And this whole long-ass comment just to say: Your EDC kit should be catered to you and not influenced by seeing what other people have in their coool little pocket drop pics. If ain’t gonna help you 10 times a day - you probably shouldn’t buy it, and if you did, maybe stop carrying it around everyday. Nobody likes unnecessary BS jabbing you in the pocket all day.
Writing this down was actually helpful, cuz I definitely need a better tool organizer with a little spot where everything goes.
I agree, the few EDC vids i've seen are sales pitches for pieces that don't seem very useful. But then again I carry a bunch of crap that gets used daily-weekly for my activities. So to each their own.
I have almost all the tools that you mention them on the video, except for the Ultem. Every trip I did I notice all the pros and cons about each tool. Sometimes I take some kits and replace some parts for another kits, as you said, depends what you needs. For me a screwdriver and ratched with just a couple of allen keys tips is all I need and some sockets. But my job is more mechanical than electrical. Anyway, even your recommendation is very good, I need most of the tools that you mention.😂
