A Noise Cancelling Headset is a game changer. I have travelled a lot. Just turn it on even without sound, it cancels everything from crying babies to the Airplane noise.
I rip off a small stack of large post-it notes (3x5?) for a notepad in my sling. They are great for jotting down notes, but it is surprising how many times you want to stick a note to a mirror or a desk or a door for a roommate or maid service or maintenance. Need extra towels? Write a note and stick it to your hotel door. And for years, I wondered how to let the maid know that the money I left behind was a tip for them and not something I had forgotten. Now, I post-it note, "Thanks!" in whatever language and stick the money under it.
It’s awesome how you thought about that! I used to be a housekeeper many years ago and was always unsure if the money left on the counter was tips or forgotten money 😂
I recently got an "empty" travel pillow and packed my hoodie and rain coat inside of it. Havent flown yet but have tested it just sitting around the house and it's comfortable and soft enough, plus then I dont have to try to fit my hoodie in my bag or have it tied around me or anything!
For longer flights I've started carrying a pack of Dude Wipes so I can take a bathroom 'shower' before we land and a nasal spray cause it gets so dry. Thanks for the video! Always looking for new things to make the flights more enjoyable.
Not sure how popular they are in the states but the Rolling Square inCharge X cables are a game changer for me when travelling. One cable, all the connections and supports 100W charging. Worth checking out.
Can only speak for the short ones that can go on key chains. Burned through 2 of them. Such a bummer, for a couple months I didn't need a compliment of cables
I appreciate the sling idea instead of a backpack! I will go that route on my next trip overseas. Not being able to stretch your legs due to a backpack under the seat is definitely a pain. Great video!
I prefer a 20L day pack. You don't have to fill it, but you could on an outing if needed. You also don't have to play tetris with the 10L of stuff in that sling of his. But some people just prefer slings, I think.
As someone who spends a ton of time researching how to optimize my one-bag setup, I also carry the same Swiss Army Jetsetter, amazon eye mask, and NB10000 powerbank haha. Pro-tip for the jetsetter: temporarily remove the toothpick and the tweezer from the knife before you go through security. The tweezer is extremely useful and beats out almost any camping/micro tweezer out there. Put those items in your med kit just in case your jetsetter is confiscated.
Marcus - I love this vids, I recently travelled to Thailand and bough a few EDC products you recommended, they made the trip even better than I expected. Thanks for these posts always really useful.
Love this content. I travel a lot myself, need to check out the sling and the gaming device. One thing I do on long flights, I get the emergency exit row or bulkhead and then I bring an inflatable footrest. Nothing better than putting your feet up while you sleep/eat/work/watch a movie.
As a fellow uniball fan, I switched to the specifically designed airplane safe uniball vision elite UB-200, after having a couple leak while travelling for work. They're also a bit better waste wise as you can buy screw in refills.
I changed all of physical notes to digital notes, so I got em on my iPad instead!! Took me a while to get used to it but everything nowadays is digital lol. Great video Marcus!!! Do you have any suggestion on AirTag Wallets? I think it would be more comfortable for my EDC and travel as well :)
Hey I know those Vionentus wallets from a friend who bought his last year, I don't use AirTag wallets myself, but there's the recommendation hahah have a great night!!! 👍
it's more comfortable to me to carry my mini notepad and pen everywhere, but it depends what I wanna write down, so I keep using both methods. Do you have any specific app for your iPad?
I started carrying a one Tigris foldable dump pouch into the strap. I use it as my* own TSA tray during the TSA line. Makes it very easy& fast to cross.
The collapsible molle one? the standard one looks more suitable for a tactical belt than a sling strap. I do a similar thing, but mostly everything in my pocket just get dumped into a pocket of my packt anywhere 5L sling.
Thanks for a video without the usual products. I've never understood the iPad as a laptop with keyboard obsession that travelers maintain. A 13" ultrabook (Apple MacBook, Dell XPS 13, Lenovo Carbon X1) takes up about the same amount of combined space (actually less space overall), and then you have a full laptop instead of a tablet pretending to be one. [time passes] Saw your bit about taking notes.
So a sling has been a gamechanger for me over the last year. I use the Tomtoc compact 4 liter. After years of dragging a backpack to my seat and having it underfoot, the sling has been a revelation. Now, I carry-on the backpack and place it in the overhead and tuck the sling beneath my feet. Don't really understand why you switched to a roll-on now that you have a sling. I'm just back from Asia and mad that I didn't hear the tip to strap the the sling from the seat tray so that you don't have fumble for it until I returned this week!
My travel EDC would definitely be a Kindle (Basic), water bottle, scarf in case I get cold, a couple of meds in a cute tin (beano, Tums, gravol, etc), notebook with pen (in my case a pocket Leuchtturm1917 and Zebra Sarasa Dry), and noise canceling headphones. I like the look of the iPad mini though! I have the “regular” size but maybe now that I’m done grad school I could switch to a mini for portability. I also like the idea of a bladeless Victorinox with the scissors for travel journaling. Thanks for sharing!
Currently planning my first ever long haul flight (let’s face it everything from Australia feels like long haul anyway) so eating up this kind of content! Amazed at how much you can fit into such a small bag. Not sure I’ll be as successful!
How about a usb c flashlight? I’d recommend Rovyvon for the quality and light weight. Plus, some of the options will provide light while they charge from the battery bank. I also usually carry a couple of feet of duct tape wrapped around an old credit card. It’s surprising how often I’ve used it. Finally, I carry one of the tiny sewing kits like you sometimes find in a hotel room. I’ve used those several times as well.
There's nothing I love more on a flight than my kindle Oasis. It's the perfect time where nobody disturbs you, no blue light. Have you tried it? It's a dream.
100% agree, I would not fly without my Kindle lol. I use an Oasis for my beside/“home” Kindle and a Kindle Basic I don’t care about losing or banging up as my travel/“purse” Kindle :)
Great video, kind of a similar setup to mine. My thoughts, suggestions?: Glasses - I can live without them, they seem to be a hassle to set up and don't bring anything to the table. iPad, stand, keyboard combo - can be replaced by a small laptop. I use a Lenovo Yoga. Miyoo Mini - great choice. I use a PSP Go. Notebook - can be replaced by the laptop, phone, but I still bring my notebook with me everywhere. Pen - Uni Jetstream - ballpoint, but writes like a gel, doesn't leak and you can buy it in 0.38mm, perfect for a notebook. Sling - totally, I don't leave my home without it. My pockets are for my hands. I have 2 Tomtocs and an Air. Neck pillow - I'd suggest a good quality inflatable one to save space. Gum and comb - yes.. well... I'm bald so no need for comb... Charging devices, cables - whatever you can find that suits your needs, but just one of each. Medic bag - good to have. Multitool - I would't bother, especially since it lacks the most important tool: the blade. An e-book reader would be a good alternative for entertainment. I still use wired earbuds instead of wireless so that I don't have an extra thing to charge.
Congrats on having unique items on your travel list. Not too easy these days with so many travel YT channels. Instead of the Victorinox Jetsetter, I suggest the SwissCard as a replacement - for air travel you can leave the blade and scissors at home and bring the rest of the tools along.
Flight is one place where I feel one should definitely consider going for a physical book for entertainment and moving away from electronics, too much screen time on a long flight can really make things worse, disturb your sleep cycle etc
That's true. But I just don't want to schlep around a physical book. And i need to have a device with me anyway to get some work done. But I get it 100%
Thanks Marcus. Intrigued to know more about the Viture glasses. I’m a little different, having a prosthetic right eye, but trying on other VR headsets doesn’t seem to be an issue. Cheers. Mal.
Being a short person, I MUST bring a backpack with me so it can be my feet rest during the flight and be more comfortable by not slipping down the sit 😂 Nice items in your review, love the glasses!
Great video Marcus! Subscribed! Having recently had a kid it's been much harder to travel so minimally, but I've found a sling like yours and then a 10L backpack for the kiddos stuff fits nicely under the seats, and they always let the 10L slide as a purse. Fit's my full size iPad perfectly as well. Also, try an altoids tin for your first aid kit. I have them stashed all over, and always have a couple in our luggage when we travel. Cheers!
Love hearing it. Your kit always evolves at different stages of life. When my kids were little I carried a “Diaper Dude” with me everywhere and it was kitted out for every possibility. I’m enjoying traveling lighter these days now that the kids are bigger. Glad you’ve found what works for you.
A carry-on sized roller and a backpack that can fit under the seat are what I bring. I've done two long haul flights over the past six months and nothing beats the feeling of passing through immigration and the luggage carousel into customs faster than others who checked a bag. A sling is a must for me when going about my day to day at a destination though, so that gets packed in my roller.
17:11 I like using a charger with a detachable c7/8 (figure 8) plug. This way I can just bring the correct country specific cable (or pick one up cheap when I land if I don't have one already) Using the correct cable means I don't have to bring bulky universal adapters with me. the UGREEN nexode gan chargers are a good example. Having a decent extension between the outlet and the charger means that I can bring the charger closer to me if outlets are under seats or weird places in hotel rooms / cafes meaning that I don't need super long usb cables for devices.
Marcus, I like your list. I also travel a lot for work. For US airline power ports, I carry a small US to Type G adapter. The US plugs are often worn out and too loose, while the Type F or Type G plugs are rarely used still tight. Never had a charger drop out with a Type G adapter. Almost never with a Type F.
The MIYOO MINI looks great, and I have heard it is great, but I have a device similar to it called the Anbernic RG353V and I would 100% recommend it. It has the GameBoy form factor, has L1/R1 and L2/R2 like the MIYOO, but it also has 2 joysticks. It helps with playing some more emulators that it can handle, like PSP, PS1, N64 etc. I would recommend looking into it, plus it can be easily bought on Amazon.
Stumbled on this video randomly, absolutely loved it. One of the newest things I've added to my travel bag are the AKG K361 headphones. I don't like earbuds, they tend to hurt my ears, and ANC bothers me when I'm traveling, so the relatively compact, foldable K361's are great - they sound pretty good, they're easy to drive, and they do block out a decent amount of sound - but not everything. Plus being wired, I don't have to worry about charging them or having them run out of juice on a long flight. I do carry a small set of wired earbuds (the Moondrop CHU's), and a small set of wireless earbuds (Amazon Echobuds) as backups and for making phone calls. One other trick I learned from a fellow traveller (not THAT kind of fellow traveller) are some Purell santizing wipes. These are great to wipe down the tray table or any other surface that might need cleaning, and they're small so I can fit a bunch.
to refresh I've switched from gum to mouthwash tablets - in the UK I get them from Parla. You do need a sink to spit them out into, so not always suitable, but if you do have access they're a million times better than just using gum in terms of refreshment, and cause they're not liquid I don't need to worry about putting them in my liquids bag/ leaking... highly recommend
Small thinks that Ive found help out and make big impacts on comfort. Fjallraven / any plastic buckle elastic belt. No need to take it off at security. Merino socks. Thermo regulates feet. Light material Anorak jumper.- its a built in zippered dump pouch for passing security, and when packed it can dub as s shoulder pillow/neck rest. The only other thing i do to make flying better is pack light. Longest lesson to learn. Only essentials.
Those glasses are a choice, no? And yes, I did buy a Miyoo Mini for my better half after watching one of your videos about it! And he showed it to his coworkers and now they have them too. You should get a commission on these sales.
I do an eye mask but not a pillow. I use Klean Freak to get myself clean before I get off the flight. One thing I always have is a flashlight, right now I use the Boruit v10 when travelling, the red light allows me to find stuff when the plane lights are off.
Just heard yesterday that all major airlines in the US now are considering the extras like neck pillows a personal item. So if you have a carry on and out it in the bin, then your sling, they wont allowmthe neck pillow or blanket or whatever hanging off your other items.
Been dying to try out the Viture glasses on a flight, thought I saw on another video someone made they have a blackout cover to block out the ambient light for full immersion. One other thing my wife swears by for relaxation in economy is the foot rest sling that hangs over the tray tables arms.
Loving your videos!!! We think about things and organization exactly the same way - so anything learned from you is going on a list! Fantastic work. Keep it up!!
What else do you need from the backpack? Do you carry anything that needs protecting like a camera? Do you use it for single bag travel so it can carry clothes and toiletries? Or is it just for carry on?
I'd be interested in a quick tutorial about that little notebook that has the calendar drawn in! How do you design the calendar and how you use it, what type of information do you write down on the notebook, how do you keep it somewhat organized, etc. If you could do even a short video on it it would be great!
@@MarcusCreates 🤣 much appreciated! But only if you do find a flow for it, i know making videos can be very time consuming. Also, Im sure it'll interest more than a couple other organizing weirdos
When you travel with the iPad mini only do you take work video calls. If so how do you handle the camera view? I know the roost and my MacBook are best but if it’s for one meeting? Is there a good way to set up the iPad mini with a stand or etc..,? Thank you!
Great content! Just subscribed. Will be checking some of these recs out. On a different note, what kind of jacket are you wearing? Looks rather tactical/utilitarian, definitely up my alley. Thanks for the video. Glad I stumbled upon you--made my day!
Do airlines consider this pack as personal item or just a fannypack? Like... can you carry this PLUS a personal bag (like backpack) and carry-on as well?
i also cant travel without a keyboard, i use split keyboards so i bring my chocofi split ergonomic keyboard as a travel board. Its super small and can fit in the same tech pouch in the video
I'll counter that you can say anything when you're role playing. However, I had a job loss a couple years ago in my early 40s and my emergency fund saved us from making any major adjustments. It took a year to replace, but that was still faster than I expected.
@@arey256 the cheapest one is the rg35xx for around $50 and plays up to PlayStation 1, the rg35xxh and the rg35xx plus are the same only difference is the rg35xxh is horizontal like a switch lite. The 35xx plus and 35xxh can play up to the original psp so it can play Dreamcast, n64 and etc. they all come ready to use out the box
Tried the nreal air. Discovered that the streaming apps do not generally allow external displays for offline viewing. If you found a way around that, I’d be interested in knowing how.
Thanks for having items on your list that are actually unique - a rarity on YT these days. Question for you - could I use the glasses as a large screen for a laptop or tablet? Thanks.
Important note. Take that neck pillow and rotate it where the strap is in the back. Allow your chin to rest on the pillow rather than the gap. I can't tell you how often I see people use it incorrectly. I'll die on this hill.
Brilliant! The Glasses + iPad mini just convinced me not to get an 11” iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard for productivity. I will use the Glasses, Mini, and a BT Keyboard instead for more versatility (smaller and more packable; productivity + entertainment!). Thx, Marcus 😊
I like your videos so much. my dad flies weekly for work and I’m hoping to get some tips to help reduce his stress in any possible way. he’s a very tall man and he is always first in line for boarding so that he can get his stuff in the overhead, but he brings his briefcase too which fits between his legs fine. as an artist who uses the big iPad Pro, I’m torn on paperlike. I’d love some more friction, the slippery clicking is definitely detrimental, but the paperlike is a bit notorious for wearing down apple pencil tips fast so I’ll have to look into how much replacements will cost me. it just might be worth it at this point. your notebook/journal is lovely, i always carry a few notebooks with me in case i want to write about what’s going on or doodle something :) have a nice day!
I usually carry a few different slings (Tomtoc, Nutsac tactical) and I want to add a small pouch so that I don't have to switch each item but just the pouch when I switch slings.. I carry a power bank, victorinox knife, earbuds, flashlight, a couple of pens, charging cable. Any thoughts?@@MarcusCreates

The G adapter is a great shout. Never thought of that. Thanks for sharing.
Oh would love some 007 N64 action on a handheld. You have me tempted.
Thanks Marcus, after watching this I’m seriously considering the Venture XR Glasses especially for my work at home situation. 😊
Amazing. Appreciate you sharing.
I even bring my laptop on such flights in a 12 liter Alpaka sling. Love this sling, it fits a 14" Laptop and is pretty compact asides from that.
I’ll check it out
@@MarcusCreates it’s called Bravo Sling Max. Love that thing
to refresh I've switched from gum to mouthwash tablets - in the UK I get them from Parla.
Great workflow on the mini with the keyboard Marcus! Love it, I am a digital note taker. Use Evernote and notion mostly plus apple notes. Great video
Its my 3rd time watching this video and I don't think it will be the last. So good ...
Thanks Ricardo. You’re always so positive. Appreciate you.
Highly recommend the Leatherman Style PS for a TSA approved Multi tool. The pliers have saved me many times on trips. Small, and gets the job done.
Just heard yesterday that all major airlines in the US now are considering the extras like neck pillows a personal item. So if you have a carry on and out it in the bin, then your sling, they wont allowmthe neck pillow or blanket or whatever hanging off your other items.
This video was absolutely perfect!! You are very soothing and extremely informative!
Thanks bud
Love your content, really appreciate the tips on EDC stuff.
Glad you like them!
Thanks for the video. Mine is usually a noise cancelling headphone, Kindle and a power bank.
Been dying to try out the Viture glasses on a flight, thought I saw on another video someone made they have a blackout cover to block out the ambient light for full immersion. One other thing my wife swears by for relaxation in economy is the foot rest sling that hangs over the tray tables arms.
Hi Marcus, Please can you tell me what watch are you wearing in this video?
Rolex Sub
@@MarcusCreates 😍
Loving your videos!!! We think about things and organization exactly the same way - so anything learned from you is going on a list! Fantastic work. Keep it up!!
The sleeping stuff would be enough for me. 😊😴
i like everything you are showing but i cant find the Orbit key tech pouch, can you share a link to it please!
I bring backpack or messenger's bag and a molle pouch. Which perfectly locks onto the closed food tray. And you get a pocket for all your essentials.
I'd recommend carrying a set of wet wipes (for skin) and anti-bacterial wipes (for everything else).
A sling isn’t comfortable for me. Can you recommend a backpack of about 20 liters that can keep a laptop secure? The pakt is too large.
What else do you need from the backpack? Do you carry anything that needs protecting like a camera? Do you use it for single bag travel so it can carry clothes and toiletries? Or is it just for carry on?
I love this video I travel a lot, there are things I will buy. The glasses and the mini console are amazing. We use the same pen 😅
I'd be interested in a quick tutorial about that little notebook that has the calendar drawn in! How do you design the calendar and how you use it, what type of information do you write down on the notebook, how do you keep it somewhat organized, etc. If you could do even a short video on it it would be great!
I’d love to. Nobody (besides you) will watch it but I’ll make one anyway. 😂
Thank you!
Can't find the orbitkey tech pouch. Is it released yet?
It was on kickstarter, I believe it just ended.
Great content! Just subscribed. Will be checking some of these recs out. On a different note, what kind of jacket are you wearing? Looks rather tactical/utilitarian, definitely up my alley. Thanks for the video. Glad I stumbled upon you--made my day!
The shirt jacket is a Barbour, Robhill.
Would love to see a full review of the Viture Glasses! Thanks, great video.
You got it!
what's the iPad mini stand?
I'm from Singapore! Enjoy you stay here! :)
Nice jacket btw!
Nice video. Subscribed. Gonna pick up a few of these items for my upcoming trip to the D.R.
Do airlines consider this pack as personal item or just a fannypack? Like... can you carry this PLUS a personal bag (like backpack) and carry-on as well?
You can carry this plus a backpack.
Marcus, what’s the overshirt you’re wearing in this video? Love that front pocket
It’s an overshirt by Barbour. Love it. It’s thick but wears in beautifully.
@@MarcusCreates What model? Can´t seem to find it. (I was searching for this very comment).
@@andreassundberg5636 Robhill
i also cant travel without a keyboard, i use split keyboards so i bring my chocofi split ergonomic keyboard as a travel board. Its super small and can fit in the same tech pouch in the video
I'll counter that you can say anything when you're role playing. However, I had a job loss a couple years ago in my early 40s and my emergency fund saved us from making any major adjustments. It took a year to replace, but that was still faster than I expected.
I was totally listening while doing something else and herd you say BART so hello fellow east bayer!! #bayallday
Hello 👋🏻
I like to take face/hand wipes. Nothing beats a quick wipe down a couple hours in.
Makes sense. ☺️
A couple of times you mention using a (sounds like) roll on (13m 10s), do you mean a suitcase with wheels?
Yes. A roll on suitcase
Another great video, I have a Miyu mini in the same color, it’s a great device. I will probably end up with another I pad mini, it’s a great size.
Thanks for sharing and for the positive support. ☺️
A good Miyoo mini alternative since they’re hard to get is the anbernic rg35xx, rg35xx plus and rg 35xxh
Which of the best from those? Also are they plug and play?
@@arey256 the cheapest one is the rg35xx for around $50 and plays up to PlayStation 1, the rg35xxh and the rg35xx plus are the same only difference is the rg35xxh is horizontal like a switch lite. The 35xx plus and 35xxh can play up to the original psp so it can play Dreamcast, n64 and etc. they all come ready to use out the box
Tried the nreal air. Discovered that the streaming apps do not generally allow external displays for offline viewing. If you found a way around that, I’d be interested in knowing how.
I was able to use United’s App with the Viture from my phone. Huh.
With Paperlike is it like an Invisible Shield of do you put it over an Invisible Shield?
It’s a stick on screen protector that’s textured to feel like paper
Great video. Love the setup. The glasses intrigue me the most. I wish I could go minimal but I’m always carrying camera gear and a 15” mbpro.
Thanks for having items on your list that are actually unique - a rarity on YT these days. Question for you - could I use the glasses as a large screen for a laptop or tablet? Thanks.
Ah, I just hadn't watched far enough yet so I see that you do demo that functionality for us - thanks! I can see where this would be a game changer.
I'd be very interested in a review and breakdown on the virtual glasses, especially the available prescription modifications. Great video
Important note. Take that neck pillow and rotate it where the strap is in the back. Allow your chin to rest on the pillow rather than the gap. I can't tell you how often I see people use it incorrectly. I'll die on this hill.
Hahaha. Thanks for the heads up. Literally.
I feel you, it’s so much better to rest your chin on it …
Fantastic!
Love the Virtue glasses but WOW are they expensive! And that’s before duty (for those in the UK)
They’re pricey but nothing like a VR headset. I love mine.
Where is your shirt/jacket from? (The green one)
Barbour overshirt. It’s so good
It drives me nuts that the Jetsetter doesn't have the nail file with the small flat head!
Marcus! Dubliner living in the tri-state here. Just found your channel. What're those drawers you have in the back of your studio there?
Is the mobile dock what you need to connect a laptop to the Viture glasses?
Great video. I always over pack when I travel and these tips really make sense. Any other pouch recommendations, not just for travel but for EDC?
So many. What specifically are you looking to do?
I usually carry a few different slings (Tomtoc, Nutsac tactical) and I want to add a small pouch so that I don't have to switch each item but just the pouch when I switch slings.. I carry a power bank, victorinox knife, earbuds, flashlight, a couple of pens, charging cable. Any thoughts?@@MarcusCreates
@@MarcusCreatesI use a couple of different slings (tomtoc, nutsac tactical) for my everyday carry and I’m looking for a pouch to place items I carry in so that I can switch between slings easier. I usually carry a power bank, cable, victorinox knife, pens, field notes and flashlight. I’ve been suggested the RZE blackcomb pouch and maxpedition pouches. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Is the miyo plug and play? Does it already come with games?
It’s sure does. Which is A-mazing!
@@MarcusCreates ahh hell yeah! Thank you
@@MarcusCreates I bought one. Just need to set it up and starting playing
could we please get a full ipad mini review for your use cases, and how it fits into your lifestyle?
i know that I would love to hear what else you have to say about it
Do the glasses work with a DJI drone? That would be epic if it did
I haven’t tried
Can you recommend a dual passport holder or case that is minimal!?
Do you use a passport wallet? If so, do you recommend any?
For the jetsetter could change scales to one that has pen instead of toothpick
