Yeah my socom bravo has thee worst detent it just bounces off and doesn't close unless you physically go back and close it...
i cut my lock bar accesss back and its so much better, the detent is just to small i might send it to someone to put a larger one in, im not a huge fan of the front flipper on this one anyway
Yea the FF isn’t placed or shaped in a way i enjoy either.
Thanks for giving us your honest opinion on the knife itself. I think a lot of the opinions of this knife are based on frustrations with the delay, and then Liong's very poor response to Neeve's fair review of this knife. I'm actually glad you filmed this right away, so your thoughts were just based on the knife.
Very poor response is an understatement.
Neeves fair review is an overstatement. Still Liong did overreact. This video here is a fair review, this is how to do it right, without looking like you're trying to slam the guy, as some (more than one) people did. But Liong overreacting was understandable when you think about how much time and effort he put into trying to make this knife something special for his fans. Then seeing Neeves review was upsetting because he knew how neeves army of fan boys would react. And that's exactly what happened. Whether it would have been as extreme if he hadn't made that response post is besides the point. Those guys take everything he says as gospel, whether or not it makes any sense. So it had a negative impact on his business, even though he has a very long and very impressive track record. Because of how they believe anything he says, none of the neeves army would give the knife a fair chance after his statement. We're all human beings I hope, and people make mistakes and overreact. Give a guy a break. Those neeves fans just totally ganged up on Liong, like how dare he insult their God Neeves. You would have thought he accused the pope of liking little boy's, the way they viciously attacked him. You should have seen how many new people tried to join Liongs Facebook group, just so they could get in there and insult him and post trolling comments etc. Had to start screening new members. Liong did apologize publicly before all that backlash though, but it didn't stop the fanboy army. And I predicted that response too, and when I talked to Liong he also said he was expecting that from the neeves fans, and that played a big part in his overreacting. Anyway, I feel like that was a bad response from the EDC community, even though it was mostly those neeves fans. I'm glad it's over and Liong is getting back the respect he deserves
liong owes a public apology to neeves. thats the bare minimum. as a secondary point, at almost 400 dollars on a reate production knife it should be perfect out of the box.
Agreed man. And the apology he did make didn’t come off sincere to me.
oh, he did “make” an apology? Where/how?
@@Adamas11 instagram
When you design a knife, it should be on you to make sure each deployment method works as expected or don’t do it. Great review as always!
I finally got a green micarta one last week. Really love this design. Action is so smooth. I'm not into front flipper so I'm glad it doesn't stick out much.
I've bought so many knives that I've had to either tune right or dremel out the G10 to access the lock bar. I wish designers would focus on stuff like that since it's typically the problem people have and make sure their creation isn't trash.
Great video. I too am very impressed with the inner workings and the design of that knife. Pretty fantastic looking and intricate. Not a fan of the light detent of course. What a beautiful knife. Thanks
Man the way he ripped into neeves was absolutely pathetic, I hope he gives a public apology cause that was not cool.
Looks like it came out a bunch better after the breakdown a bearing switch Kev.
It is however unfortunate it didn't come proper before these were sent out.
BTW....I got $20.00 saying it goes up for sale rather quickly.😀
Big love from San Antonio
It gone
@@LeftyEDC I'd have done the same.
Have a great day homie!
Great review of an underperforming knife.
Thank you for this excellent deep dive into this knife brother! I had hope about this knife and you reaffirmed it! 🔪🖤🗡
I shipped mine back to get replaced. I am hoping he has one with a strong detent and I don't have to wait for it to go back to Reate. Fingers crossed 🤞
Hope so man. Worth the wait if u do. Bigger detent ball will help
@LeftyEDC Yeah, I'm thinking that too. May be better off waiting for it to go back to Reate. Hopefully, not another 15 months! 🤣
He told me 6-8 weeks
Fantastic knife review Kev…… very througo nice work on breakin that one down!!!! Fine work bud😊
Man, for the price, I wouldn't be too happy with the fit and finish. Gapping in the carbon fiber, detent issues, etc.
Yea it wasn’t their best work but im a legendary nit picker 😂. Atleast hes offering to fix the detents. The rest is minor
@@LeftyEDC Very true. The whole situation is a bit strange to me. A 15 month wait period, lacking detailed fit and finish, and the way he has been responding. I didn't get in on this one, but if I would have, I am thinking I would not be very happy.
@@timb4425 yea i filmed this when i got it a week ago or whatever but ill do a follow up i think since another one is coming. And address some of that. It should be addressed.
That is to be expected from a chinese "knife." It's even worse when the designer is a dick
Nice video! I got the dark matter cf variant and I love it! It definitely has a lighter detent but it's not a deal breaker for me even though I prefer stronger detents. Maybe if I had experienced the original field duty I would have a different opinion, but overall I think the knife is worthy of the price point.
Drama aside, I like my FD 3.5. But I kinda wish he would have just scrapped the flipper and just went with the hole. Like the rest of the feild duty line. Most of the drama would have been avoided and the wait would have been drastically shorter. Either way, I hope he can pivot, and learn from all this
Such a sexy knife! Love the way his designs look. I hate the way he handled neeves but nobody is perfect. Looking forward to a follow up video on this… I know it’s coming lol
It’s disappointing to see his reaction to the issues, can’t be good for business. I’ll always support what you do because you care about customer service, making wrongs right and you’ve been forthright in communications! Finally got a Growler and I love it, there were a couple scale edges that were a little harsh but I knocked them down with a fine grit sanding and problem solved... I was most drawn to that blade and it is all I thought it would be, fantaaastic slicey cutter, oh baby! Hopefully I can locate a Stout someday, bummed I couldn’t afford it at the time of the drop. Glad to be back, will see ya in a livestream soon, take care Kev!
The fuller fanatic tried to tell us about Liong. Something about him man, I can’t get down with him. Liongs personality doesn’t have a good track record.
You sir are a much needed guiding light through this issue, and kudos on your show of class and consideration. You are the man, and as a fellow lefty, I gotta say I’m a fan.
Always loved the Field Duty's! But that detent on this batch is uuggghhh... Hopefully I can scoop one up for cheap now than, since there's so many ppl upset or disappointed with it🤞🤞
“Look at that hole, it’s so sexy and huge” Kev 2023
Haha yea def a that’s what she said moment.
Love how you are trying to be nice about the detent when you and I know with a ball that small no amount of tweaking lockbar will make it good, don't sell it ,it's soooo good
U heard me say “sooo good”? It was fine once i tweaked it. Still not strong enough for me but i know a bunch of ppl including who i sold it to that like detents like this. Neeves was way too light, almost falling out of the handle (assuming u are getting ur info from that, unless you got one?) that was the bottom end of the spectrum. Mine was a little bit better and ive handled one that is actually pretty good. So….. not sure what ur after here. U think im lying or trying to make the knife sound good? It was an unboxing. I had 10 mins with the thing. Enough for me to sell it atleast.
Nice video. Glad i didn’t attempt to disassemble any further than i needed to ship north.
remember lefty your the same guy who has critisized 100s of knives detent and have ripped them apart for it that were much much more affordable, i dont think anyones critiques are out of line on this one
Remember, i filmed this a week ago when it first landed to ppl. Didn’t have as much information as i do now, just a few DMs about a light detent. So different scenario if i recorded this today. He had the benefit of the doubt at this time. Detent is too light, detent ball is too small, lockbar is too thin, don’t understand the reversible clip, gap in the inlay transition, i made all that clear. I try not to all out bash a knife for detent anymore because of how subjective it is and how it varies example to example. Ive learned that with my own knives. But obv now we know its all of them and then we have the drama around your video and Liong showing a side I wish I’d never seen.
@LeftyEDC yeah I get it, great video btw 👊 thanks for always being 💯
Hey Kev, Thanks for leaving the skin in the jimping. I plan to clone you in the future to make an army of detent divas. Cheers!
🤣
Like the knife, for the price point, you should not need to do the work you did to make it better.right. Thanks for the review
Agreed but i work on 90% of knives mostly because of my preferences. Some ppl like lighter detents. But now we know its all of them so 🤷♂️
“Such an amazing looking hole”-that’s what he said 😂
I don't understand it. He put a giant hole in the blade, but couldn't put a stronger detent in because of the top flipper? I would just scratch the top flipper and go all in on the hole (giggity). On such a large knife with such a large deployment hole, it need a strong detent. Or else the blade will just flop around as soon as a finger touches that hole.
Yea i think Reate steered him wrong there
I like the cut of your jib, sir.
A larger detent ball would have been better, I think. It's interesting to see all the milling going on in the inside the knife.
At 400 smackers you should be able to nitpick everything about that and liong should be ashamed anyone isn't happy with his knife. I'd understand one knife or a couple even. But it seems like it's everyone.
Thanks for the Look Lefty 😎
Man the lads got jipped on this one
They blade design and everything looks awesome.
What model of Skiff multirow bearings did you say you used to put in there? I'd love to try them in mine. I got the same one as you. Mine had a slightly stronger detent than yours did. Mine didn't shake open like I saw some people complain about. I get that he was trying to make sure the detent was appropriate for the front flipper, but I kind of feel like this one time Reate let him down with the detent. I was following all the updates the whole time and talking with Liong too. I know he was having trouble with getting prototypes sent back and forth, due to the Covid fiasco. I feel like they should have used their experience to know and dial in or make the appropriate changes to ensure the detent was stronger, especially since they were having so many problems sending them back and forth and with the supply chain. I love Mine, won't ever sell it. I tightened up the lockbar a hair and it did improve. But I agree it would be a little better with more tension. But Mine works fine. The pocket clip is the same design he used on the XV Integral. He was disappointed because he intended this to be a very special model for his fans and supporters, and in the beginning he did make sure he stressed the point that this would take a long time . But he was expecting 8 months or more. The delay was completely out of his hands. Anyway I got serial number 9 which I was very happy about. I picked up a second version of this knife for a steal. It's the burlap or brown micarta, which I'm not a fan of. But I only paid 200 bucks for it used. Someone who had it before had anodized it. So that one is my user. Think I'm going to dye the micarta black, and then redo the ano on it too. Anyway could you tell me the model of those skiff bearings please?
6mm 1/16 16 ball
@@LeftyEDC Hey thank you man. Appreciate you getting back to me right away
Sooooo annoying that opening /closing the box cutter. The rest of the vid, thanks much appreciated.
I contend Liong Mah is a guy who knows how to draw a knife, but knows nothing about actually designing a knife, or how to make it. His knives look good in 2D, but when you turn them over you start seeing the details like the lock access that are likely overlooked because he is probably doing nothing more than sending a 2D drawing to his OEM's and letting them engineer the knife, which is very common these days.
You're right on the money. As a knife enthusiast and one who fiddles with it, a good detent or overall action is a must. And this knife cost 300+ bucks??!! It definitely is not all about the materials but on the overall experience one would get.
@Mhannix D 300 dollars and wait 15 months to get it made lol no thanks
Plus he is a narcissist asshat.
I agree that the intricate assembly is impressive and is worthy of a higher price tag but not when there are so many other issues with basic features of the knife.
Agreed
That’s a nice looking Knife, does it Compare to a Strider in action and feel?
Nah totally different. Smoother, bearings, more drop shut.
Not sure if it is linked below
Where do I find a cool Hex bit driver like those?
Thank you for the videos 🇺🇸😎
**found the video on them below**
Thanks man
Awesome!
I have that small WingmanEDC 3" knaf with similar front flip/hole config and the detent is perrrrfect. Seems like this should be stronger..
First time seeing someone use superglue on a knife pivot, why is that? I mean i get it so it doesn’t loosened up, but why use superglue rather than red locktite?
Because loctite takes awhile to cure and doesn’t always take. This take seconds and always works. Its also easy to remove Re loctite can almost be permant.
Damn you dude my disassembly of the 3.5 is coming tonight t 😂
Why does it matter?
Yo lefty love the way you go thoroughly in to the build and upgrade the ride bearings if needed I am not a lefty myself but I'm aware that you guy's have been left out of the knife designs for a long time for no reason other than laziness on the oems and designer's side so nice to see them catering for leftys where do you get your bearings from as I would like to buy some to upgrade a few of my knives which will benefit from this 😀 lefty love 😉 .....
Skiff bearings. Link in the description. I have a code as well LeftyEDC will save u 10%
Liong Mah has hit rock bottom with this one LOL. What a SPED
That entender magnet you have I have one that has a flashlight on the end of it with magnets to
Titanium nested frame 🔐 😮
I wonder what Neeves thinks. Do you think he received his yet?
🤣.
I think that was a joke
If not, yes he definitely received it. See his videos from last week
At this price point and the amount of time it took, it should have been perfect from the factory. Not everyone will feel like taking apart the knife and modding it to make it better or should have to. Feels like the ball was dropped on this one some of that is Reate's fault and some of that is on Lion. How he has handled it on the other hand is simply horrid. Not the greatest way to handle customer service in any way shape or form. Thanks for the great vid Kevin and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
This drama is better than the spinewhackgate!
My detent ball was so small it has a very light detent for my liking I’m going to sell mine I have a problem with the lock at access too and a couple other things left a bad Taste in my mouth . And with the neeves knives thing between the designer of this knife was a bit wild too . I’m sure he can fix these but after the wait I’m passing on this so if you want one hit me up
Wow that lack of detent should be fixed
Don't apologize for rambling, it's what you do.
What is the maker of the evo 2.0? Sharp by design?
CKF
Any chance that that Divo Buzz would be made as a drop point with grey titanium bolster lock with marble carbon fiber inlays? I would love to see that as I am trying to find my perfect knife and that would possibly check off all of my boxes.
Lol. Just look for a Liong Mah Field Duty the original one is basically what u described
@@LeftyEDC that is a front flipper? It looked almost like it deployed only from the hole.
@@JustFluxz the OG field duty is not a front flipper. Sorry didn’t think of that
@@JustFluxz maybe the Artisan Tylos?
@@LeftyEDC actually got that as a gift and loved it but it wouldve been been better if the jimping went higher and im having warranty issues with it. There were dips in the steel along the edge but they took so long to respond to my emails that it took over 2 months to get a replacement and it is in worse condition than the original. Right now in limbo of not getting responses from them again.
Cross cut is done on a diagonal you where thinking of an end cut.
15 months
You think a $500 knife is OK to be tuned?
Depends. Not every knife is perfect for me. I will take the time to make it more my preference if i can. Doesn’t mean it must be tuned. This one is a bad example though 🤣
I heard all these reviews and feedback even though it caused a serious amount of chaos and butthurt on Liong’s side, it ended up helping him In the long run cause supposedly he got on Reate for the QA and they fixed all these issues and all the current reviewers who have received and reviewed the new ones In The last couple weeks have said, that everything is fixed and the knife is stellar, probably a bit overpriced still, but no real issues like a few months ago. Anyway too bad Liong didn’t just thank guys like Jared and you all for correctly critiquing the knife to help him fix the issues instead of being sore butthurt and lashing out. This is how it is supposed to work, you look it over give good feedback and let things get fixed or updated so the whole community can benefit from it. Too emotional!
Totally agree
Apparently you are not allowed to point out any flaws.. can you please remove this vid.. and film a new one with only positive feedback.. thanks...
🤣
Hey Kev, if you're using cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) on some of your pivots lately, how are you removing them when you need to? What do you use to get the pivot back out, just heat?
Hey dude, don't use glue, nothing bad to lefty, I just feel yellow plumbers tape works the best, cut a piece half inch long then fold in half, lay it on the pivot and push a little of in the pivot, then screw in pivot and cute back any excess tape if needed, you can adjust pivot anytime there after
@@Scott-wi7rm Great idea, thanks! Where's the best place to buy, & what type of brand specifically do you use?
@@pateralus9 you can get it at any hardware store, the yellow one, it's for gas lines it doesn't wear down as much as the white kind, the one I got is called plumbcraft, pipe thread seal tape. Around $3-4
I just loosen the screw haha. Its actually easier to break than loctite blue. See my video on superglue for pivots.
@@Scott-wi7rm
You're like the third person I've seen recommending this insanity in the last few days. Why not just use purple loctite (222)? It's formulated for small diameter, fine threaded bolts.
You literally have the key to the lock, but you'd rather poke around at it with a paper clip just to be different?
Seems that front flipper really painted them into a corner...
Nah, He’s off my buy from list
hello, what is the utility knife u use for open the plastic bag?
Links in the descriptions
Dude’s going to make me skiff all my knives lol
I don’t believe that about the detent strength because on my Two Sun TS-129 the detent is strong as hell and it has probably even less to front flip off of and I can still use both methods. The hole is way too big in that IMO, no need for a hole that big.
Im guessing its what Reate told him
@@LeftyEDC maybe but Reate sure knows how to do every other detent I’ve ever seen correctly. I think the thin liner, detent hole and ball size, and that Hole cutout are ridiculous for this knife.
My take: lock bar is too thin, detent ball is too small, and the hole is too big.
Hole is fine i agree with the rest
ah you added tension which helps the detent a little, but now you're just asking for lockstick since it's titanium lockbar pushing harder on stainless steel. What a cluster of a knife and release.
No lockstick issue at all. I just added enough for it to engage the hole better. Gigidty. But i sold it haha
@@LeftyEDC I get that, wasn’t saying there was lock stock. Just pointing out the combination of the increased pressure more than where it was initially set plus liongs choice to use a titanium lockbar with no insert could down the road develop lock stick. I would have done the same thing as you!
@@mattgericke4537 funny story. He didn’t choose i think. He told me steel liners. Said Reate told him they couldn’t do titanium. I asked right before the video. And he seemed shocked when i told him it was ti. So im thinking he put a lot of trust in David Deng at Reate and was hitting homers until this one. Unfortunate
I’m surprised Reate flubbed this hard.
Why? It's a chinese made knife. The only knives that have ever disappointed me were chinese made and I've had everything from Gerber to Reate and "high end" knives made by WE and Reate and yes, even the bougie ones had locks fail, detent balls fall out, tips break when piercing light materials like radiator hoses, scales crack, etc. To me this looks like typical chinesium
@@dualsportedc chinesium ... I like it. But I hear they make really good balloons
I do like his designs but his behavior has left me to not consider supporting him. I can't give money to a person who I don't like. Great video 👍
Right there with u
You said their ti liners, but I didn't see no s.s.Lockbar insert
Nope
Some companies don't put them in. Emerson does the same thing. The Field Duty is made in china so I'd be surprised if the liner was actually titanium and not aluminum
@@dualsportedc aluminum would be way too soft for the steel it locks up on. So theres no way. They don’t do inserts on some knives to keep them thin
I won't be buying any Liong knives after the way he attacked Jerad
oh dang, another RUclipsr "hit piece" lol
🤣
Logic’s never seemed whiter than when he said “Bitch, you smoke!!” Abt his Mom 🤣
?
Gods I'd be disappointed if I had gotten one of these.
The we roxi 3 got the detent right so why couldn’t the field doody do it!!
Edit: so I got mine in yesterday and the detent is so strong you ain’t using that top flipper without losing your skin. I’m gonna have to take it apart and tone down that detent. The detent is snappy for the finger flip but ur not using the top flipper!
Different style top flipper but i get ur point haha
T6 should be illegal to use on knives.
What the heck type of lighter was that!!?
Zippo with butane insert
You just saved me some money. And I'm not liking what I'm seeing during your disassembly as well. You should not have had to do what you did right out of the box Thank you...
Why did you apologise to liong cos you had to tweak the lockbar it's not your fault .he deserves the criticism you sounded scared to be honest like it's really obvious fake praise
Haha im not scared to be honest. I was being respectful. Every issue i had i made clear. Idk what else i should do. Just shit on it? I say what i think in the moment, don’t censor myself so it is what it is. Also this was filmed well before all the drama so i think u and i have been influenced by that.
I’ve waited so long for this knife and after watching yours, and other reviews I have a very hard time buying one now. The detent issue kills me. Don’t need the top flipper, shouldn’t even be there. He ruined this knife prioritizing making the top flipper.
I dont think anyone should buy this knife with the way he treated an honest reviewer. Actions have consequences. I see people saying hes actually a good guy and he just makes mistakes often. Ok. Actions still have consequences and if they dont then he would have no reason to change how he treats people. In my opinion, better luck next time but this time he more than earned this loss.
I like the knife overall and I don't see it being crazy over priced. If he said the detent had to be light for the front flipper he's just lying. Clearly you changed the dent for the better and no issues to the front flipper. He had 2 choices about the legit drama either offer to fix it or act like an @ss unfortunately he took the 2nd choice. I wouldn't purchase a knife from him but that has zero affect on him and I'm sure he doesn't care either.
I feel ya man. I think he was trusting what Reate was telling him. The rest is on him
@@LeftyEDC You would like to think Reate was a safe bet but he's not new to making knives. You figured it out quickly but he's done hundreds if not thousands of them and should know better. I hate this more than you know it hurts everyone and nothing good will come from this drama.
@@jameshitch5041 couldn’t agree more.
liner lock in titanium and so thin : for this price, i'm disgusted to buy one forever!
It could be the fact that the only knives that have ever failed me were made in china (some of which were made by Reate), but to me this detent thing just proves that chinese knife companies are way behind the curve on quality. If Liong truly cared about his customers, he'd have had his stuff made by a company like CRK or Spartan but instead he chooses to use bad OEMs and then he chooses to be a prick to his customers when they call out QC issues on top of it.
Im going to dissect this a-little. First by all accounts the bigger Chinese OEMs are well ahead of the US companies. US brands dont even do contouring or lock inserts half the time not to mention inlays and many other things. Detents being one of them. Second, you cannot just call up CRK or Spartan and have them make your knives. They can’t make nearly enough of their own. I know because I’ve tried. Am trying to have a knife made in the US by an OEM. And its very difficult. So thats my 2 cents on your comment. I appreciate what you are saying and would love to see. More US oem stuff but I think you are thinking about it as if it were 10-15 years ago. They are the best at this point in China. Sad to say but its true.
The boy should have contracted with Rough Ryder to make his knives
No offense. But almost noone will have your skill and parts to attempt this. Im glad you fixed it but we shouldn't have to do that with a 500 buck knife. For 500 you can get a flawless knife gtg from box.
💯 agree. Great comment
Yes you bought yourself something......
The maker has chewed out RUclipsrs for there negative comments about this knife! Not very professional. I will not be purchasing one of his blades, theres plenty of better choices out there.
Nice looking but I would rather spend that much $ on something else. Thanks for the video
Fair enough haha
I agree. That knife should not cost more than 200 bucks
Like it or not, he lost a massive amount of support over this.
Yup
just means i have more money to spend on future Divo knives...cuz LM will NEVER get my money!
I like the video but not the knife.
Knife surgeon
15 months for a knife with a weak detent and a dude who goes off on an honest reviewer. No thanks.
Yup
The dude turned off IG comments on his "I hear you" post lmao
Thats hilarious

That is an extremely thin titanium liner lock I could definitely see these knives developing lock up issues rather quickly if you going to use titanium you better have a pretty thick lock face & carbidize it .I can see those thin titanium liner locks wearing out pretty quick . I'd like to see this model with a buttonlock .
You should do what I do when your pivot won't unlock- strip the ever living shit out of the pivot screw and your driver and then beg the manufacturer for a new one in a self depricating email and then use a screw extractor to get the old one out and then cry yourself to sleep
🤣
You said bad things, you cant say bad things coz 🐈⬛⛄ will cry.
