Captain's log mod:
fractalsoftwor...
The mod is currently not "up to date" so you have to change the version from 0.96 to 0.97 in the mod info to make it work.
The first system you explore has a PARAGON? This man will pay off his debt in no time!
Weirdly, I found TWO Paragons in my first exploration run of my latest game (plus two Hyperions), they were in a debris field in a system just north of the core worlds. Well, the Hyperions were nearby derelicts, but the Paragons were both in the field, and not visible as recoverable derelicts on the map (which just goes to show that you should always check debris fields when possible, because you can get some crazy stuff from time to time).
"I say Bottom Line cause i want good score with Tri Tachion"
Considering the UI and datapad ARE provided by TT, you would think the occasional corpo dialog choice would give you at least 1 point of reputation to TT out of nowhere, which is funny for people who dont they are being spied on by TT, and terrifying for those who know.
The chill, the gameplay, the little stuff and tricks. In times where every seasoned player gets into 50+ mods you somehow manage to make vanilla fun. Your stuff is the peak Starsector content for me and I really hope there's more where this came from. Take your time though, you are the legend
Yess:)) although I would absolutely love to see him explore some of the mods, this is really great
Just a reminder, Degraded Engines reduces in-combat speed. Degraded Drive Field reduces out of combat burn speed.
Degraded Engines Enforcer XIV have trouble keeping up with condors and degraded Drive Field on Invictus means max burn of 10 without Ox support. I love how Dmods can totally break the game with Derelict operations while also making ships completly useless.
11:50 I can personally confirm that Slipstream Surge is fully capable of yeeting other fleets over the hyper-horizon. It's also superfun to play around with in general.
and another 80% are so far away that they are redshifted outside our visual range. the sky is dark only to a human eye, but it the IR, its brillant.
so not only are most of the stars not visable to the naked eye, even what stars you COULD see, are ALSO invisable.
Its good to have you back mr big brain!
"Why doesn't syndria just stop selling fuel to the sector?"
Because they make a lot of money doing so, and if they stopped, everyone has just enough gas to team up on them. Bros are within walking distance from everyone
More importantly, like he said, Sindria can't make fuel without getting sufficient volatile shipments from hegemony
Also Hegenomy has Nachiketa and Sphinx while the Persean league has Madeira and Yesod as their Fuel producing facilities. Heck often enough is cheaper to buy AM from Nachiketa since they have often a surplus sale of 1000+
Just like the authoritarian Saudi family that relies on the income from oil to subjugate their population which actually hates them. The moment they get low on cash, they will be overthrown. Same as the kitty of Sindria
If nexeleren taught me anything it's that sindria doesn't stand a chance against the hegemony.
It's like raising oil prices and waiting for the us to notice what's going on.
@@Impericalevidence Sindria would stand a chance but for reasons Nex doesn't simulate, primarily that it would be politically disastrous. Internally and externally.
The Return of the King!
"You saw that fuel range"
Yeah, but also you left a system with a BLUE GIANT, which it has stronger gravity than a red giant from Askonia
Thats how that works? TIL
also cost 2 fuel to make the jump out of the system
I forgot the fuel cost to use a jump point because it's never never been relevant before. I assumed that would be part of the range shown on the map, but nope! Lesson learned.
@@bigbrainenergyguy I also thought that they factored the jump cost in.
I also never considered that bigger stars and black holes have higher jumping costs.
Loved everything about this video exceptc the dislike for the hound. The best early game ship for hauling and killing the ocasional pirate
Just found your channel. Your voice and attitude make this propably the best Starsector content I've watched. Thank you so much!
So glad to see another upload from you, by far one of my favorite starsector creators
Based on your profile pic, this checks out.
Been really missing your stuff! Glad to have you back, hope you`re doing well
If you said "Im going to liquidate our acquisitions in order to increase our bottom line" to a Tri-Tachyon higher up he would laugh at you lmao
Just passed the last of my exams this semester, couldn't have asked for a more refined relaxing experience than an upload from a fellow beel enjoyer.
The ships and ai core from the tutorial are floating around in Galatia. That makes this start much easier after you do the first mission to get some money. With a "real" fleet trading becomes easy since nobody tries to poke you.
Also Galatia missions are a good way to make some cash and the best thing about those is that they don't have a time limit. VIP transport does, but those are usually easy to do even with the starting bolt bucket.
"I am pro Tri Tachion"
Yet has to sleep like some kind of fleshy mortal and not an AI.
Curious.
Devious.
right as you said "someone should write a fanfic" i'd already decided i might have a new project, the lore omg
Unless something has changed with the new version the debt with the spacer start NEVER ends. It merely increases as you increase in level.
It would be nice it it was possible to end the debt eventually, or if you ticked over a certain amount paid it would fire an event.
Another interesting bit I like about stars is that the sun is also a very quiet star. Red dwarfs are famous for flare stars like Proxima Centauri but most stars have significantly more flares, sun spots etc. that may not preclude life but can make it more difficult or change the course.
when I saw you active on the ss forum, for the first time in half a year, a few days before the release (was hyping myself up for it), I had a hunch we WERE GODDAMN BACK GAMERS
You drifting backward into the same system you just left was the highlight of my week. Absolute hilarity.
Amazing! Glad I finally get to see a playthrough from you. I appreciate your incoherent ramblings while you travel around the sector.
7:27 hero is born
7:31 training montage
7:32 death in the family
7:34 hero fights big bad
7:37 heros wife betrays him during fight scene
7:38 hero becomes a hell diver to change his life and fight for super earth
7:40 hero drops with his squad and gets landed on by a supply pod
7:41 story ends there. Not everything always works out
The reason the fuel range seemed to lie to you is that it does not account the cost of jumping to hyperspace. Hardly anyone notices because it's not usually such a large percent of your fuel.
2:01:46 I found a guy in a lone Fulgent derelict in my last playthrough, I like to think they were a HEG-INT spy during the Second AI War who was tasked with sabotaging a drone shipyard, but things went awry and they ended up trapped there with a makeshift cryosleep and life support system they made with the Fulgent's parts and a Hegemony deep space survival kit.
You're pretty entertaining to watch, mister Bingus. Got yourself another sub ;D
"Asteroid increasing your sensor profile"
Saw the replay, the value didnt change, it just pushed you right in their direction, thats all.
Oh really? For some reason I thought you got a temporary increase to your sensor profile whenever you bump into an asteroid.
@@bigbrainenergyguy It did change? If you watch it you'll see the sensor profile go from 50 (Going Dark) to 100 (Turning off Going Dark) then hitting an asteroid which bumped it back up to 398. Going fast inside an asteroid field won't reduce your sensor profile since you have to be moving slowly in it.
@@isiffrin oh yeah, i read the wrong number. It bumps to 398.
But also JUST b4 you hit the first asteroid you turned off Going Dark, which made your sensors went from 50 to 100 and THEN 398 cause of the asteroid.
If you are ACTUALLY going slow you dont get hit by asteroids at all.
Then he went down the field, still at 398 profile, hit a second asteroid, and reactivated Going Dark. I dont think hitting the asteroid increases the profile, just your SPEED which then reaches past the "going slow" threshold need to get less sensor profile, cause the second asteroid didnt increase that 398 profile even further cause you were already going fast.
Holy shit, that captain's log addon is god tier, never knew it's existence.
Man I was actually pissed when you ended off your last “series” the way you did. Glad your back, genuinely. Like your insight on the forums and especially in the videos.
Watching you not equip your lvl 5 officer for 2 hours is a white-knuckle experience
because it reminds me of myself
those misadventures you have in the beginning are a super meme :)
The fuel range ring doesn't take into account the flat fuel cost of jumping
I'm liking your pace!
Also, I like your explanations about stuff from the game. I don't own it, but I'm an avid viewer and with those explanations I can talk like an expert. And it's cool.
My Captain's Log is a paper notebook I keep in the computer desk (old school ftw). Which is actually kind of hilariously appropriate for Starsector now that I think about it.
My good Sir, first time viewer here finding quality Starsector content? Instant follow and like!
Welcome back. Glad to see one of your videos again. ^^
I felt genuinly Happy seeing u posting a new video, i love them :)
I've been waiting for new BBE videos and 0.97 videos, super happy to see both at once!
FInally, some Big Brain Energy again!
Retirement home audience you say. Don't worry buddy, you are now one of us.
ONE OF US, ONE OF US!!! 😂
22:36 Said like a true addict.
man, gas giants and magnetic spheres were my primary way of getting topography progress.
Jeez Big Brain Energy, have you not seen Battlestar Galactica? Throw that Radiant "crew" out the airlock immediately.
Aw man, a few days ago I wanted to pm somehow, to now how you were doing, glad to see you back captn!
I am one of the 30's cohort and can confirm that some days I feel like the old man yelling at clouds.
How dare he speak the truth about us!
Glad to see you back! :)
Speaking of Halo ship names, "In Amber Clad" is fucking awesome.
I just started playing for myself. This game is absolutely fantastic
oh my God a Big Brain Energy video? My day is made!
u should make a vid on making burner colines in vast ruins planets, you are pretty much guarenteed a colony item if you story point + alpha core on tech mining
its epic, i don't know why no ones talks about that
Not sure if it's a mod thing, but Salamanca (Persean league toxic world) has +2 organics already.
Maybe check it out next time you visit? I don't have any mods I know of that would boost the League
Pop in the big drill, AI core and improve with story points, and you have enough organics to supply the whole sector.
Edit: I forgor that you can't invade planets without Nexerlin
High tech gang! My man, thanks for the vid / series!
Who would have guessed that star sector player didn't have a father
43:55 just for the future, since the last patch if you press 'take all' it doesn't take overcap fuel
He lives!
Wait, there was a new patch? Shit! My saves!
I just started my first game in .97a... Oh vanilla, how simple yet complicated you are.
I'm dying from watching you "smuggling" in magec and epiphany with your transponder on 😂
FYI if you read the small text the game actually tells you that no one is likely to bother you about your transponder being off in those systems. So you are adding an extra 1000 sensor profile for nothing. It might also be worthwhile to add 5 more crew and get militarised subsystems as well. Expanded cargo holds adds 50% extra supply consumption on civilian hulls too so that's another factor.
Usually there's some good stuff in Epiphany that you can resell, at the very least they will almost always have very cheap crew, also sometimes cheap domestic goods or ore (yeah, I know ore is not value dense, I'm a multi-atlas user in most of my games) so you can make a profit in both directions. Selling marines at Epiphany and Chalcedon is also very profitable.
I’m really hoping fractal soft works adds child support lore now.
A thousand credits a month must be a lot of children or one very expensive one.
the spacer start debt does not increase over time, it scales with your level. i belive its a 2k increase per? also i like to hit up the academy and take any have any ransom missions for me to nab, since theyre not time limited and give you some cash upfront. :)
Welcome back gamer, glad you're here.
You are correct, ship names from Halo are fire
When we needed him most, he returned
The reason you weren't getting "high burn" data was because without emergency or sustained burn, you just weren't fast enough (well, anything over 20 burn counts, but it takes a while to accumulate if your aren't going more than 30)
Long time no see Captain!
51:08 "I don't want to repair it too much" what do you mean by that? if you mean by stopping the venture to use all of the supplies to restore the missing CR then you can limit the CR available for the venture by going into the refit screen and clicking the CR bar on the top left.
In a very real sense, the bottom line is the most important corporate term. It's your result after taxes, so called because it is literally the last line of an accounting. Nothing is more important than increasing your bottom line.
While 80% of stars are red dwarves, that doesn't mean it's the same across every area of space. Star Sector could just simply be in a sector of space that's populated differently.
you're back!!!
So hyped to see you post again!
You got me with Joseph Bingus
HOW ARE YOU SO GOOD AT THINKING UP GOOD SHIP NAMES
Awesome. Really good commentary
The man the myth the legend. Glad we have you back.
iirc spacer's obligation is based on your level and it never disappears.
As for fuel thingy - based on nothing, i think it's because it doesn't account for jump out of the system, which costs fuel.
He has returned!
Finaly some good fucking content
Long Time no see my guy
Thanks for the video chillest spacer!
Great vid, as always! How do you swipe over the items so fast when you store them? Don't tell me you click them that fast :O
Hold alt while mousing over them. This was always a feature, but was a hidden option in the game files. The latest patch made it active by default.
@@bigbrainenergyguy I tried every key combination except alt 🤣 Super useful! Thanks a lot, from one of your audience members above 30 😎
Wow hover looting is a thing? That is incredible.
Barren-desert worlds can get organics also.
Highly intelligent being has returned. Finally I can once again meditate on brain developing content.
It's okay, guys. Dad just took the scenic route to get cigarettes and milk.
I don't know if it's feasible for you, but recording/uploading with a higher bitrate would be nice as the video gets quite blocky at times, especially when jumping to hyperspace.
New patch and a new video from Big Brain Energy. First few months of 2024 are going good so far.
i feel called out...sigh i cant believe im old
The return for the new year🎉
i always thought magec sounded like a cute name for a system
Oh, hes alive
Indeed. What an unexpected turn of events.
@@bigbrainenergyguy missed you, bb
Aaaaa!!!!?! Let's goo!!!
The baby black market phase and early exploration phases are much more interesting if you play Radio Free Mars while gaming.
I still wish they'd unfreeze Lucas.
for the love of god please make a tutorial how to survive as a new colony in this patch, luv ya
great starsector content! love the commentary
Topographic earnings only show after getting out of slipstream, devs done this so it wouldn't spam every 5 points
It feels good that someone finally called the black market boring... Everyone was talking about bm trade like some awesome feature, but I never really found it interesting. It's good that it's there, it's not like I have never used it early game, but it's a bit overhyped. I generally just explore/fight redacted stuff early for $ and then just farm bounty for that sweet space combat.
Entering hyperspace costs fuel, maybe that's why you did not make it to sindria?
Surveying equipment reduces heavy machinery and supply costs, not crew
You may need to use sustained burn in a slipstream to get topographical data
man you play early game like it's The Cold Equations lmfao
cant believe you used charlies ending slogan lmao
Ya caught me! I haven't been able to think of anything I like yet, so that's how it is for now.
Return of the king
I dare you:to do a fighters only fleet run
Support ships are allowed
Difficulty: HARD
