I would save some money and probably get a Mazda CX5 as they are luxury also but at a cheaper price. -------- Both the Mercedez and BMW are nice but both will cost you a lot more money to own with higher taxes, auto insurance and maintenance costs over the years.
I agree with the taxes (especially if you have to pay personal property taxes like in VA) and auto insurance. But maintenance is a dice roll to me. Japanese cars are not guaranteed to be zero problems. I know folks around me who have BMWs and Mercs that are still in good conditions. I think my speculation as to why German cars tend to be more problematic is that maybe their owners push the cars beyond limit. Hard acceleration, hard breaking, sharp cornering, aggressive driving behavior, etc... certainly take a toll on the car's health. I get it, why would you drive 45 mph in a GLC or X3? BMW drivers getting bad rep could be due to the fact that they know the car can overtake others in short burst. I certainly won't do that in my Nissan lol.
I have to say the X3 probably does feel like the more complete product, but I was just wowed by the shiny fancy Mercedes. Could be a different story for me when the new X3 comes out next year, or when this new GLC matures a little bit after a couple years

No contest. The X3 is far superior. The new GLC is a total fail. And I usually prefer MB over BMW but not in this comparison.
