    Very nicely done! I especially enjoyed the excellent time lapse segments and smooth panning. We will be making a similar cruise on Oosterdam next year, and look forward to seeing some of these places. Thanks for the preview!

    Great video!! I am cruising on the Norwegian Star leaving next week on a 16-day South America and Antarctica cruise with a very similar itinerary, and this video was super helpful to know what to expect. I am not new to NCL or cruising, but this is certainly a unique bucket list trip, very different from any other cruise I’ve done. Having a hard time deciding what I need to pack! 😅

    • @vdmfam
      @vdmfam  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, it is a unique trip. We had to decide what to pack in Buenos Aires (in the 80's) and then Antarctica (in the 30's). It was worth it. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Have a great cruise!!

    Hey guys! Just found this video - nice work!😊 We were on the same cruise, infact, we were on the same excursion to Magdalena Island- you can see us boarding the tender right in front of you in your photo!😂 That was a great excursion! Looks like you saw alot more sealions closer up at Punta Lomba than we did at Peninsula Valdez - we saw sealions & elephant seals but they were faw away, if we ever go to Puerto Madryn again, maybe we'll do that excursion instead!😉 Thanks for sharing your experiences 👍🏼

    Thanks for the preview. I'm booked on the Norwegian Star in Feb '24. Same itinerary except we'll be going slightly further south to Paradise Bay then north to Elephant Island. I'm especially excited about Elephant Island. I'll actually be at the place where a little over 100 years ago, Shackleton set off on his famous open boat voyage to South Georgia.

    I enjoy your videos very much. You are always detailed and I get the feeling of being there with you. I’m planning to sail with Norwegian star to the Antarctica in 2024. Were you happy with the cruise and what you saw? If you don’t mind my asking, what camera and lens did you use? I’m trying to decide what camera and lens I should bring. Did you need to have a long telephoto lens for the wildlife shots? Also, did you purchase your cruise direct from Norwegian or did you use a travel agent? Thank you so much for posting this video.

    • @vdmfam
      @vdmfam  Год назад +2

      Thank you!! We were very happy with the itinerary the the planning NCL had put into the cruise. There were 2 naturalist and 1 historian on board that lectured us on what we were about to see. Lots and lots of wildlife as you could see. Yes a long lens is almost required. I was using a Sony RX10 which has a zoom lens that went up to 600mm. Don't forget your smart phone. If it is relative new is will take some amazing photos and video. We have almost always booked ourselves on their website. We call if we have a question.

    Very nice video! However, I would suggest that you might take an extra second after each scene before switching to the next scene so that viewers can take in the entirety of the present scenes. I am strongly considering taking this cruise if I feel I can survive the flight from and to KY, at my age. Thanks for sharing your cruise!

    Thanks for sharing your video. We are a group of 10 that will be going on Norwegian Star and touching almost the same ports of Montevideo, Punta Arenas, Ushuaia. We do not plan to use the NCL excursions which I find are too expensive at these ports. Can you tell me if you did excursions on your own at these ports or if there are the local excursion providers at the port and if you would advise them? I would think those excursions would be safe and far more cheaper as I have in the past used them but at other destinations. Will appreciate any advise you can give.

    • @vdmfam

      We used NCL excursions. Some of these ports are not very large. I am not at all sure what options would be available to book yourself. I can't remember seeing any shore excursion offerings at the dock.

    Is there a tender to shore in Antarctica? what excursions are worth doing?

    • @vdmfam
      @vdmfam  9 месяцев назад +2

      Unfortunately no, to get on shore you need to be on a smaller expedition ship that can take small groups to the ice on inflatables. Cruise ships do scenic cruising around islands and into bays. There are no residents (except research stations), no docks no facilities.
