Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks 2024
We begin this trip in Portland Oregon along the Willamette River. We drove east to Pocatello and then into The Grand Tetons and Jenny Lake. We then moved into Yellowstone where we saw bison, antelope, bears, geese, and lots of geo-thermal activity. On the way home we stopped at Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls Idaho.

Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. This is amazing!
Very nicely done! I especially enjoyed the excellent time lapse segments and smooth panning. We will be making a similar cruise on Oosterdam next year, and look forward to seeing some of these places. Thanks for the preview!
Thank you! Have a great trip!
Love ur videos!!❤❤
Yay! Thank you!
So awesome to have this recorded for posterity! It was so fun to rewatch! 😮❤
Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Just done that cruise from Sydney -Eden--Burnie-Melbourne-Milford-Doubtful sound etc etc, was ace..
I loved this video! What a long trip! 💗🤗💗🤗
There certainly was lots to see.
What a great cruise and thank you for taking us along! 😊
Thanks for watching!
Loved your video: the clarity, the captions, the time-lapses and the music changes as the scenes changed!
Thank you!
Looks a great place to visit.
Thanks for the review. We're going on that one in the middle of Aug. Looking forward to it but a bit worried by all the negative reviews on Cruise Critic. Looks like you had a great time!
We had a great time!!! One of the main issues with Greenland is getting to Greenland. The weather (fog) can hinder the ships ability to safely navigate the waters. Iceland is usually okay but wind can play an issue on some ports there. We've been to Iceland 4 times and haven't had issues with ports. As for the ship... We love it! We took it to Antarctica as well.
I want to go to Ncl star I want to ask do we really to need bueno air cash or we can use US dollars
US dollars work.. as do credit cards.
Going in February! 😊
Can you tell me what camera gear you took ?
Sure- iPhone 14, Sony RX10m4 and Sony RX100m7
With which agency did you take the tour to Magdalena Island?
Through the cruise line NCL.
Hello, we just viewed your video it was very nice and helpful. We also plan to do the same cruise with NCL. Could you let us know what were your sailing date for this cruise, as we are trying to decide what month to go.
Our trip covered the last 2 weeks of January 2023. The weather is variable and the Drake Passage could be easy like ours was or become the Drake Shake!!!
Great video...enjoyed it a lot! We are booked for South America /Antarctica one yr from now, and started to watch viedos like yours for excursion ideas. Thanks!
Thanks for the preview. I'm booked on the Norwegian Star in Feb '24. Same itinerary except we'll be going slightly further south to Paradise Bay then north to Elephant Island. I'm especially excited about Elephant Island. I'll actually be at the place where a little over 100 years ago, Shackleton set off on his famous open boat voyage to South Georgia.
Great video!! I am cruising on the Norwegian Star leaving next week on a 16-day South America and Antarctica cruise with a very similar itinerary, and this video was super helpful to know what to expect. I am not new to NCL or cruising, but this is certainly a unique bucket list trip, very different from any other cruise I’ve done. Having a hard time deciding what I need to pack! 😅
Yes, it is a unique trip. We had to decide what to pack in Buenos Aires (in the 80's) and then Antarctica (in the 30's). It was worth it. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Have a great cruise!!
Very nice video! However, I would suggest that you might take an extra second after each scene before switching to the next scene so that viewers can take in the entirety of the present scenes. I am strongly considering taking this cruise if I feel I can survive the flight from and to KY, at my age. Thanks for sharing your cruise!
Thank for your comment and suggestion. I would hope that you indeed take this cruise or something similar.
Do you think the weather will be bad May 30th to June 11th?
You never know!!
@@vdmfam Would you recommend this cruise?
@@annamisley8678 Yes I would!! Greenland weather can be problematic but it's worth it.
Thanks for sharing your video. We are a group of 10 that will be going on Norwegian Star and touching almost the same ports of Montevideo, Punta Arenas, Ushuaia. We do not plan to use the NCL excursions which I find are too expensive at these ports. Can you tell me if you did excursions on your own at these ports or if there are the local excursion providers at the port and if you would advise them? I would think those excursions would be safe and far more cheaper as I have in the past used them but at other destinations. Will appreciate any advise you can give.
We used NCL excursions. Some of these ports are not very large. I am not at all sure what options would be available to book yourself. I can't remember seeing any shore excursion offerings at the dock.
Thank you. We are looking forward to our cruise coming up soon.
Thank you for sharing. Looks exactly like what i imagine a perfect cruise itinerary looks like. May i know if all the port excursions you did were booked through NCL?
It was a great itinerary and yes, all of our excursions were booked through NCL. Some ports we supplemented with self guided town walks.
Is there a tender to shore in Antarctica? what excursions are worth doing?
Unfortunately no, to get on shore you need to be on a smaller expedition ship that can take small groups to the ice on inflatables. Cruise ships do scenic cruising around islands and into bays. There are no residents (except research stations), no docks no facilities.
We are doing a similar cruise in July 2024 with Greenland and Iceland but one way ending in NYC. We are thinking of just walking around the ports ourselves and renting a car in Iceland
If you come to Nuuk, I do recommend a bus driven city tour if one is offered by your cruise company. The guides are all English speaking and well versed in Nuuk and it’s history, the history of Greenland and other things you may want to know about our fascinating city and country.
We are doing the NCL Spirit from Auckland NZ to Sydney Australia in Feb 2024 and was mostly curious about the shore excursions. Are there any that are a "must". Often, we forego the excursions and enjoy strolling the town at the port or a hop on hop off bus. Since we are coming from Florida, I don't want to miss a "must see". Too far of a trip to repeat and a lot more world to see. Any info would be appreciated.
Eden- we walked. Melbourne- A big city, we bus toured, Burnie- Devils and Roos (a must see), Dunedin- walked town and did a harbor wildlife cruise, Christchurch- Town and Country (must do), Wellington- canceled, Napier- walk, Tauranga- The Rotorua Experience (great for learning more about the Maori culture). Don't forget to get your on-line Visa's for both countries.
Thank you!

Beautiful & so peaceful! Wishing you a lifetime of happy & healthy years on your ranch! Can't wait to visit!
Hey guys! Just found this video - nice work!😊 We were on the same cruise, infact, we were on the same excursion to Magdalena Island- you can see us boarding the tender right in front of you in your photo!😂 That was a great excursion! Looks like you saw alot more sealions closer up at Punta Lomba than we did at Peninsula Valdez - we saw sealions & elephant seals but they were faw away, if we ever go to Puerto Madryn again, maybe we'll do that excursion instead!😉 Thanks for sharing your experiences 👍🏼
No kidding!!! That's fun! We had a blast and it sounds like you did as well. Thanks for watching and letting us know that you where there!!
With which agency did you take the tour to Magdalena Island?
@@MARIAGONZALEZ-kv6fh The tour was booked through the cruise line.. NCL
what cruise line did you book with? we are looking to do England, scotland and Ireland in Aug. as well thanks
We booked through the Norwegian Cruise Line website. It was a great itinerary!!
When the extension at The Hague ended (Sunday), did you take the canal cruise in Amsterdam? If so, what time did it end? We want to visit Anne Frank house that afternoon. Thanks for great video of your week!
Thank you! Yes, after leaving The Hague we went sightseeing on our way to the canal cruise in Amsterdam, and then we were taken directly to the ship. We arrived to the ship around 3 or 4 pm. I'm not sure there would be time for an additional trip.
Two of my sisters and I are taking the same cruise in January ‘24. - can’t wait!!!
Wow - nice to see the exact cruise we shall take in February 2024! Can you comment on the ship itself? We have not done a lot of cruises but generally like having our table and set dining time - get to know the waiters and staff etc. That does not seem to be the case here - what was your impression? And what about the balcony cabin - I’ve heard it is “small” (older ship, remodeled in 2020) - but we really don’t spend all that much time in our room! Thanks for any ship comments and again, what a nice video of the itinerary / stops!!! Thanks!! Steve on 23 Sept 2023
Fantastic.. you are going to have a great time. The NCL Spirit IS one of NCL's smaller ships (which we prefer) and is beautiful. The balcony rooms fit our need nicely. Think of dinning as having a choice of restaurants... you can make a reservation or just show up (assuming the restaurant isn't a specialty restaurant where a reservation IS required). We like to eat early so there is hardly every a time we have had to deal with reservations or a crowd. We also like to 'latch' onto a serve. We may discover our pick of server at dinner or breakfast. If we find someone we like at breakfast, we just ask which dinning room they work for dinner.. then ask for them by name. For stateroom and a few ship pictures check out this link to our website. www.vdmfam.net/2023/sydney/index.html more ship pictures here and the unique theater www.vdmfam.net/2023/eden/index.html
I'll be brave enough to be the one to say "sorry but the music spoilt it for me, it was too loud and in your face" Im sure your family would have loved these home movies but didnt find it of interest when I was looking forward to some stunning scenery instead of seeing boats etc wizzing past at warp speed...but thanks anyway
Thank you for your input!
Once again, a lovely depiction of your trip. Too bad about Shetland Islands, that would have nice to see after watching the series. Thank you both for sharing your journey 💗💗🤗🤗
Love this! Beautiful part of the world! Traveling vicariously with you both is wonderful! 💗
We went on this same cruise in 2015. Awesome experience, Viking is top notch! Thanks for the memories!
Great video! We're taking the cruise in June, 2025. We've never cruised so we're wondering if a balcony is a must (we booked an inside room for now). We would like to spend the $$ on excursions in Greenland (we've to Iceland many times and are staying a week after the cruise). My spouse feels the balcony may be too chilly and we'd just as well on the deck looking at the ports and such but if you think it's a must, we may reconsider this. Also, were there many choices for excursions in Greenland or just 1 or 2 options? We are trying to find some details on this but were not sure where they would be posted (for the 3 Greenland stops). Thank you so much!!!
With an inside stateroom you would be missing a lot. Get at least an ocean view. The rooms can be heated if you need. We always book balconies and throw on a jacket to watch iceberg, whales etc. from our balcony. With the exception of Nuuk there are few excursions available at each village. Walking tours are educational. Exploring on my own is where i got most if the video clips. I did both. Don’t expect bus tours (except Nuuk). The villages don’t have busses. The ship population is greater than the village.
There will be some boat excursions for iceberg exploring.
We are booked on this cruise next summer. Did Alaska this Spring. We usually book insides for cost and better sleep. For Alaska we had a balcony. Probably worth it, but we usually went out on the decks when the sights were best. Often the other side of the ship has a better view, so your balcony doesn’t help. It was often not that pleasant on the balcony due wind and cold. Ocean view cabins are not worth the money imho. If you prefer to be in your cabin a lot(we don’t) then maybe a balcony. We are booked in an inside for this cruise. We have done 20 plus cruises, mostly with inside cabins. When we have had balconies they were rarely worth it. To be fair we live in Florida and are boaters, so we are not seeking sunshine and water views when we cruise. Usually head to the upper decks when sights are worth it.
We are also booked an inside cabin so we can go to whichever side of ship to see the sights
Very good video! I have this trip booked for December 2023 for 16 days… On what month did you made the trip? I want to know how was the temperature during the days of Antartica.
Thank you! Our trip occurred in January with Antartica temps in the 30’s. Buenos Arias temps in the 80’s making packing interesting.
We just came from there, beautiful place recommended to visit, such a lovely❤ place...!!! 🥰WE'LL BE BACK FOR SURE!!! Hi from Montréal ✋🤗
I'm thinking about booking this cruise on july 13th, just curious about the ports in Greenland, did you have to book tours in each port? can you go on your own? I honestly find cruise tours extremely expensive, that's why i usually rent cars but this cruise is completely different.
Yes, this country is completely different. The capital of Nuuk might have rental cars but I doubt it.. take an excursion. The other stops are actually villages and can be walked. Tourism is very new for the country and the population is quite small. The villages are not connected by roads. Your ship will have more people on it than the village have living there. For us, fog was a problem causing us to miss a village because the ship had to reduce its speed for hours. The icebergs could be an issue too if there are a lot of them. Go, and enjoy the adventure!
Yes, there are companies here in Nuuk that rent out cars. However, to legally drive in Nuuk, you need an international drivers license. A US license is not recognized. The easiest thing though is just to go on the city tour if your ship offers one. If they don’t, local tourist companies will be at the dock to offer tours. The main harbour is 1,7 kilometers from the center of town and 2,5 kilometers from the Old Colonial harbour with the National Museum.
I’m re-watching this video again as I’ll be in Iceland June 29 for the NCL cruise that begins July 3. I see that you had VIP access for check in to the ship. Was this something that you purchased during online check in? What excursions did you go on? Was there a lot of standing and being on your feet for long periods? I signed up for the Jewels of the North which includes Godafoss but I’m a bit concerned about having to be on my feet for a long time as I have sciatic pain. Are there places where you can sit and get a rest at those sites (Godafoss and other sites on that tour)? Also what APP do you use to create your RUclips videos? I’d love to create something similar. Thank you so much once again and I appreciate so very much your sharing your experiences.
Fantastic! I'm glad you have been enjoying the video. Our VIP access is due to our status with NCL. Godafoss is a must see. It's a walk at your own pace while at the waterfall, most of the rest of the excursion is a scenic bus ride. There are places to sit and rest. The Golden Circle out of Reykjavik is another must see. I use iMovie (Apple) to compile my videos.
@@vdmfam Thank you so much for your quick reply and answers to my questions. I appreciate it very much! I’m so happy to hear that there are places to rest on the different sites. And I’ll look into using iMovie to create my RUclips videos. Your videos are fantastic with lots of great music and they’re very informative and enjoyable! Thank you once again.
Be on that same cruise starting July 3 to 13.
@@bilbowilbo9849 That’s awesome! Perhaps we will meet on the ship! 😁
Nice trip. Beautiful views! Added to my cruises bucket list.😊
Thank you for commenting.
Nicely done. What video hardware did you use?
Thank you!! Most video is shot using iPhone 14 with some additions from a Sony RX100 M7. Timelapse is from a GoPro 8.
We just booked for a 14 day Ireland, Scottish Highlands, Wales cruise. It's not until August 2024 and it's going to be so difficult to wait that long. We'll be leaving, as you did, from San Francisco. It was wonderful seeing your excursions...but I'm a bit worried now. It looked like there was LOTS of walking. I'm a "seasoned" adult...so long distance walking might be a bit challenging for the old joints. Were the distances as long as they looked...or did the bus get you relatively close to the actual sites? I certainly don't want to spend port days in my cabin, so I hope there are excursions I'll be able to do.
How exciting for you... and yes, next August seems like a long way away. As for excursions selection there are usually options. Our group on this cruise included members that walk with canes. The only surprise was the walk to Corfe Castle. It was a bit of a walk. It was rated as an excursion level 2 (moderate). It was a bit much for the cane walker that accompanied me. Looks for the level 1 excursions.
@@vdmfam Thanks for your answer. I'm grateful. I will check out Level 1 excursions as soon as they are available. Nothing is listed yet. I'll see if I can check out excursions for upcoming trips for this year.
Nice looking but please identify what we are being shown. A map for starters?
Thanks for the suggestion!
Loving your videos! Saw you are a fairly small YT channel, just like our channel, and so have subscribed in support! Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing more!
Thank you for your kind words and for subscribing. I have visited your site and have subscribed.
Ireland is not a British Isle/Island. This is an outdated Imperialistic and Possesive term that is not recognised by the Irish Government nor by the Majority of Irish people living in Ireland.
Thank you for clarifying.
