    Prims death was the best part of the books. It showed how the civil war was more important than the original goal of Katniss (protecting Prim)

    My thoughts regarding Gale creating the bombs. He did not kill Prim, but he also kind of did. The plan of the bomb was to use it on the people who will try to help, that means the medics and civilians. We do not know if they used this boombs beofore or if it was this one time, but if they did then there are many other Prims that died. They were kind and good and tryed to help just like Prim did and died. The killers are the one who droped the bomb and gave the order. But Gale invented the bomb that way so they would kill medics and helpers. Or do we care about what he did only becouse Prim died and not because it was wrong on itself?

    • @iri02802
      @iri02802 3 месяца назад +2

      I agree with you.
      It's the psychology behind the bomb that makes it so awful. And not only because of Prim. Why would Coin (even if Prim was not there) bomb her own medics? Because they would have been the ones helping. Gale was the one who invented the bomb for helpers (as you said). Hell Katniss could have been the one helping them (because she has a lot of compassion). Maybe not by medical assitance but by getting people out of the rubble ...
      And Gale's attack on the Nut in district 2: he was literally killing people the same way his father had died, like so many in 12 had, and so many in 12 were afraid to.
      I think it's really cruel to invent a bomb that targets one of the best qualities in humans.
      Sorry this comment got away from me ... :D

    The books specifically describe Gale as having a lean, hard-muscled body when he hugs Katniss. Katniss also says to herself that he wouldn't have any trouble finding a wife because he's handsome and strong. Even Peeta said that he had heard girls talk about him a lot. That commenter saying he wasn't that good looking was not paying attention 😅

      The only reason I can understand is if they view gale as Liam helmsworth someone who I personally used to think was really attractive when the movies came out and hadn’t yet read the books therefore originally was team Gale but over the years I’ve found the actor less and less attractive seeing the relationship unfold with queen Miley which along with rewatching the films as an adult with an adult non pick me mentality as well as reading the books and actually seeing Gale through the proper prospective allowed me to rightfully change to team Peeta especially seeing Josh in five nights he did so good I was so proud of him lol it’s hard not to associate the actors with the characters is my point and especially for people only seeing the movies sooooo much nuance is missed!

    Another excellent video!
    Regarding Gale, when you go to war, you can have only one goal: To obliterate the enemy.
    War is a terrible thing, and civilians die in war. But the sooner you defeat the enemy, the fewer innocent people will die in the long run.
    And of course Gale didn't kill Prim. Suzanne Collins did!

      As far as book characters go, Coin killed her. Prim wasn't old enough by district 13 rules to be out in the field. She could only have been put there with Coin's permission. I wouldn't be surprised if she actually specifically ordered it.

    I know there were reasons Gale was there and was the way he was for the story, I'm just a Gale hater.😂 I've read the books just recently and I get what you're saying about him. I get where he's coming from too but I just can't with him. And I loved Effie's character and would have liked for her to have been around more in the last book AND I would have liked for the prep team to have been in the movies.
    The Snow sympathizers worry me. When I read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes it was pretty obvious to me he was already a bit of a jerk. A normal jerk but still a jerk. As the book continued you could see how he got worse and worse, especially with the help of Dr. Gaul. I feel like it just shows how easily someone that is already power hungry and doesn't have empathy can turn into someone like the future President Snow if supported by the wrong people.

      I also wish I had seen this promo because I have an option I think is unpopular/I don’t hear often and it’s that I don’t think these books were ever meant to be YA. The story is most effective being told by a teen/the sending kids to the area and the horrors so it has to be set like that but the book deals with a lot of adult concepts and nuances that can’t be appreciated by YA readers like adults. Coming from someone who read them when they first came out and who has read them over a million times since.

    You yelling "they need to be alone. did you read the books?" never failed to make me laugh because hard agree. Not everyone needs a romantic pairing to get a good or satisfying ending. I think a lot of us struggle with two of our favorite characters ending up alone as their backstory is literally losing their entire families only to be retraumatized by the quarter quell and following revolution. I like to think they both went to therapy and are enjoying quiet lives on their own accord.
    I saw a comment somewhere that said they like to think Joanna eventually moves to 4 with Annie to help protect her son with Finnick which I think is a fitting ending for her, while also giving 2 characters who suffered a lot (Joanna and Annie) a bit of a happy ending.

    Hi there! Glad you reacted to my comment. And yeah, in hindsight I DEFINITELY answered my own question. 😂 but i suppose it wasnt really an "unpopular opinion" I was giving more so than just a gripe that I had with the movie 🤷🏽‍♀️
    And I do understand what you mean, when you say after reading a book, you kind of tie them into the movies regardless if a certain plot doesnt happen or not. 🤔 such as when we see the shear sadness on Katniss's face when she has to detonate the holo and put Fimnick out of his misery, in the book we hear her thoughts and what she is thinking, so when seeing it on screen there were no need for words.

    Unpopular opinion: Mockingjay is my favorite of the books. The first two are amazing, but the reasons there are more popular are the same reasons that make the games entertaining for the Capital. Mockingjay takes away. The flash and fanfair and presents the harsh brutality of war without the cool games, pretty outfits, and crazy interview twists, to entertain the readers.
    Also 100% the books are clearly not critiquing capitalism the Government controls the means of production in Panem and most trade is illegal. Do people even kknow what capitalism is? The capital beeinng called the Capital doesnt not mean its capitalism 🤣😭

I get why people like Peeta or why people like Gale for her but I don't see it fully myself. I do agree that it could go either way with Peeta, that it could be a reminder of the games OR why he could be help away from it, but I still feel like Peeta and Katniss were forced into their relationship at first and from then on it was a bit of an act. Who knows? It could've fully been an act they (mostly Katniss) felt too far into to quit and genuinely like them (him) as a person/best friend so just went with it

Capitalism is also a good thing in the Hunger Games. First unpopular opinion (like, so unpopular I've never heard it before): If there could have only been one Victor of the 74th Hunger Games, and it could have been anyone, I would want Thresh to win. Especially Thresh from the book.❤He's just the right mix of clever and intimidation. He's probably the strongest physically, even stronger than the Careers. He'll kill to stay alive, but not out of sport. He's got a sense of morality that wouldn't allow him to turn on allies (which is probably why he doesn't have any). He could probably take down any of the others in a 1 v. 1. Truly an incredible Tribute.🥰
    Second unpopular opinion: I always thought that sending 12-18 year olds to the Hunger Games to show that even the most innocent among us can turn violent was ridiculous. Like, that might very well be the meanest, nastiest age group in existence.😅I hated myself at 12 and 13 years old. I was a horrible, nasty person. I hated life, and I hated everyone around me. I was a nightmare to be around. My brother is 15, and he's not very nice to be around sometimes. He wasn't at 13 or 14 either. A lot of teens are rebellious and full of angst. This is the age group when a lot of bad habits, sometimes even illegal😮, are first explored and engaged with. This is when kids start testing their parents' boundaries and breaking as many rules as they can get away with. Almost everyone agrees that middle school was a nightmare and that high school wasn't much better.😶And yes, while it would be horrible for a parent to lose their child to the Games... just... be for real. No one considers this age group to be the most innocent.🤣

    Coin being an older Lucy grey is not a ridiculous concept and it defo makes sense in the context of the books. Coin knows a huge amount about Snow, some of them only things that Lucy Grey could possibly know. The way she takes Snow down is so perfect.
    The fact that she makes Katniss the Mockingjay when Snow hates Mockingjays, the fact that she says "we'll have to flip on it" when Katniss demands to kill Snow and Snow laughing at the end when Coin is killed instead of him. (There's defo more to it than that, I just can't think of it atm) I think one of the reasons he found it so funny, in addition to Katniss just doing what's right, could be his savage pleasure at knowing that Lucy Grey was killed right when she thinks she's taken Snow's place.
    And to counter the "Katniss said Coin is 50" argument, Katniss grew up in District 12, where the living conditions are so bad that she could easily have mistaken an 80 year old for a 50 year old.
    Lucy Grey was only in District 12 for a limited time, so she easily could have lived most of her life in 13 in much better conditions.
    If Coin isn't Lucy Grey, then she's Lucy Grey's daughter. They have to at least be related, there's no way she would know some of the stuff she does otherwise.

    • @TheGeekApprentice
      @TheGeekApprentice  7 месяцев назад +2

      1. Not everything has to be related.
      2. Lucy Gray and Coin are nothing alike.
      3. Lucy Gray's life or death is supposed to be a mystery.
      4. Coin didn't "know" about the depths of the Mockingjay, just that Snow hated Katniss and Katniss was effective. :)
      I understand the argument, but it falls flat when you see how vitally different coin and Lucy Gray are (among everything else I mentioned). This theory is just fans reaching for something that isn't there. :)
