They mentioned in the Foundations video that going forward with the templating that non-legendary creatures will only refer to themselves as "This Creature" but legendary creatures will still use their Name or a short hand of their Name when referring to itself doing anything in the rules text box. Supposedly to make Legendary creatures feel more impactful/special as opposed to the normal creatures running around.
Funny because for the last few years they have printed thousands of legendary creatures. Making them feel "special" is less believable than just saving text space.
Ozox auto gets Heartless Summoning because you'd be heartless to sacrifice this good boy. I appreciate the Mayael shout out! My first multicolored commander deck! Beautiful art.
I love how MTG is trying to avoid becoming yugioh by...just removing words instead of eating the bullet and accepting that their text boxes are yugioh length now
Ozox definitely has a lot of potential for infinite combos because the token is basically guaranteed to get Ozox back, so if you can get at least 2 colorless and 1 black by having both be destroyed somehow (sacrificing is likely the easiest), you can infinitely summon it. Maybe not the best commander, but probably good in decks like Syr Konrad or Ayara. I personally just like finally having a real skeleton commander. General Kreat deals damage herself, so there's obviously ways to sneak out a quick kill with Grafted Exoskeleton or gain tons of life with lifelink. New Niv is probably still weaker than Niv Mizzet Parun, but I'm sure many are salivating at drawing potentially 60+ cards with Heartless Hidetsugu, and it actually infinites with Parun.
7:55 can you just loop ozox and jumblebones infinitely if you have ashnodds and phyrexian altar both in play? Sac one to each altar to get 2B back to recast ozox and keep going? Not a great combo because you still need an outlet on top of everything else, but its still a combo!
I'm really looking at building the new Kykar, looks like a midrange control blink commander that'll be a fun build, rewarding interaction and building it will be a nice challenge of balancing noncreature spells with the creatures I want to be blinking. The borderless art is amazing too, best in the set so I'll be hoping for a foil from the packs in the starter kit but shelling out for a single in the likely event that I don't get one.
Yeah I can’t stand that shit, makes it feel like a totally different game. I remember when magic art looked like, yknow, ART that an actual human drew or painted by hand 😂
I'm a life long anime fan but I don't like it on my mtg cards. It doesn't even have a unique style it's just generic anime. Would really prefer the more traditional mtg style. Now cards having alt art that is anime is fine for me but there some commanders here that are exclusively anime. Ech
I think people skip out on the graveyard hate as much as they forget to add some spot removal for problematic lands. It's something that get's overlooked or just slotted with more "gameplan" oriented cards.
Yeah it’s getting harder and harder to justify and budget these kinds of cards for me. Like if I’m playing an aggro deck I’ll just try and kill the graveyard player first instead of shoehorn niche cards. Removing players these days is so much easier that teamwork with other players can be better than adding fluff to the deck
i feel like 2024 was a continuation of powercreep, words creep, commander creep, set confusion creep, universe beyond creep, chase card creep, secret layer creep, and the year we lost the RC. so everything was too much. next year everything will be an unset. at least that's how it feels like. maybe that helps...
@Dioliolio going from T3 setup into T4 stabilization, into T3 setup into T4 payoff isn't exactly a small jump... Pushing the format into requiring a T4/T5 board wipe doesn't feel like a healthy place to be.
I think they put whatever takes up less space. Perhaps anything over 7 letters gets changed to this creature but Alesha is vague. If you connect with the other Alesha, this would trigger for her too. Yea?
I find it funny how I hear people talk about how wordy the cards have become then out the other side of there mouth not like when they remove filler words
Personally, all this cartoon/anime art is more offensive than anything having to do with universes beyond. It just looks so out of place and I hate it.
I hate loot, especially the first one from otj. That card embodies everything thing i hate about modern legendary creatures. From the gay ass art to the fact that functionally it does way too much and has no restrictions or build-arounds .

@@nelsikegaming Oh 100%. That's just the wording they themselves used when talking about it since they can't quite say that.
I like the basic commanders, it makes it easier to pick a commander out for niche ideas (method 2)
First Koma is definitely the better Koma. But both are great and go in each others 99 for sure.
Ozox auto gets Heartless Summoning because you'd be heartless to sacrifice this good boy.

Tinybones is that guy, I can’t wait to play it
I personally Built Nazar, The Velvet Fang. Really interesting mono black lifegain commander
Jaheira, Friend of the Forest goes well in that Saproling deck.
I think Ozox goes infinite with Ashnod's Altar and Pitiless Plunderer. If you have Blood Artist, you can kill your opponents with that combo.
Also with ashnod and Phyrexian at same time.
Or just ashnod's and a manafilter like energy refractor
Love the anime art.
I am beyond hyped for Slinza. Ive wanted a good beast commander forever.
A bit of fun new stuff coming out. Nice! Thanks, Demo!
I first read Brigone's flavor text as "Gosh, guide my hand!"
With your ozox combo example you gave, if you add a Phyrexian arena, then it'll give you the mana to cast ozox each iteration. Infinite ETB/LTB
I wonder if the new templating is "this creature" for non-legendaries and for legendaries?
That Nazer is absolutely slotting into the 99 of 'Syphon Lyphon' since I'm the only one gaining life.
Ozox: Phyrexian Altar and Jet medallion enables and any aristocrat payoffs as a way to have infinite enters and dies triggers
Just know, mtg isn’t even in top 5 most popular tcgs in Japan and WotC is desperate to increase their market share in Japan/asia

Fumulus is an absolute auto-include in my Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest deck, who just happens to be an insect.
on Koma, wild idea, play both

I’m excited for Anep Vizier of Hazoret
2:24 put the what on the bottom? 😝
Naw in all seriousness, thank you Demo for another awesome video!!
Ashnod's with ozox, Phyrexian altar for jumblebones. Infinite cast and death triggers if it resolves
As a Timmy, Shroofus Sproutsire makes me very happy 😁
Yeah I guess they just assume everyone loves anime art but I’ve never loved it.
I wished they treated it like the first jump-start instead of the 2022 one.
It’s just big business people in an ivory tower generalizing this sort of nerdy tcg player demographic.

Ailesha Smiles at Death, Sarkhan Vol, and Zurgo Helm Smasher.
Mardu for the win.
I like the anime arts. I just don’t want them on magic cards. I miss when magic had an identity
I miss when mtg used real artists.
Can confirm that shroofus is kill on sight, played a few games with him already and I felt disguising every time.
The new Koma is GAS in Esix.
niv mizzet plus earthquake seems pretty good
I have been toying with skeleton tribal for years and im very pleasd with Ozox, though dont plan to build him
Ozox is fun for my skeleton tribal deck I really need me a proper golgari commander though
I'll put alesha in m'y insshin deck for sure :)
Uh… anybody that rox Ratadrabik… Ozox‼️

Tivash, Gloom Summoner is my mono black life gain deck, 1000% better as a lifegain pay-off, he will always be mah boi
I think they name legendary creatures and other creatures are "this creature" because legendary creatures are more note worthy?
Loot can hit critical mass, hard, in Simic, with an Intruder Alarm and almost any mana dork combination that can make 6 mana reliably... Oof...
We did it, we broke intruder alarm!!!

If the new Alesha is in the 99 of the old Alesha, does the old one benefit from the "Alesha" ability?
All the Niv-Mizzet are so boring…
Whenever any Alesha attacks Alesha, who Laughs at Fate should trigger, is the way i read it.
No, it's referring to herself. It's how they're wording things now.
getting confused about wording is just a part of magic now.

Not a fan of the anime art either
Hate the anime art
Personally, all this cartoon/anime art is more offensive than anything having to do with universes beyond. It just looks so out of place and I hate it.
Why the hate for anime art? If you like that art play the other art simple 99% of the time, some people will get upset over literally nothing.
I hate loot, especially the first one from otj. That card embodies everything thing i hate about modern legendary creatures. From the gay ass art to the fact that functionally it does way too much and has no restrictions or build-arounds .
The anime art is disgusting. I would rather have any other mtg art, but that would not appeal to the weebs.
