  • In this episode, Kirby Allison explores the range of butane gas refills provided by S.T. Dupont, highlighting their unique features and demonstrating the correct method for refilling your S.T. Dupont lighter.
    S.T. Dupont presents a selection of five distinct butane refills, each tailored to specific lighter models:
    🔥 Red Gas Refill

    🔥 Blue Gas Refill

    🔥 Yellow Gas Refill

    🔥 Green Gas Refill
    www.kirbyallison.com/products...
    🔥 Black Gas Refill
    www.kirbyallison.com/products...
    Although all these refills contain identical butane gas, the key distinction lies in their nozzles, each designed to fit precisely with different lighters. This specificity in nozzle design is crucial; using the wrong nozzle can lead to butane leakage during the refilling process.

    It is just profiteering though. For the price of these lighters, they could simply include a free adapter. They're obviously designing the products to be incompatible with standard butane nozzles.

    As much as I'd like to support the brand, their gas prices are repulsive--and it was impossible to find during the pandemic. Any of the premium butanes available in the US are at least as good as Dupont's and typically come with several adapters for different brands/styles of lighters. If anyone thinks Dupont owns a special butane refinery I have a bridge in Baltimore for sale...

      Exactly, and the price per serving size is just repulsive and insulting. Most butane companies like what XIKAR uses is just as good and with a $15 brass adapter, you won't need to waste your money on this (dare I say it) scheme that ST Dupont has tricked their loyal customers into participating in.

    In 2016 in a rare drunk moment for me in Vegas in a cigar lounge, I bought a S.T. Dupont lighter. When I inquired about them the salesman said they were out of my price range and I was offended and bought it for spite. When I got home with it, finding that I didn't use it as much as a torch I decided to sell it on eBay. To my surprise, several people tried to scam me trying to convince me it was fake. I asked the kind folks on Reddit and showed detailed pictures and they assured me mine was genuine hand made and the eBay folks were scammers. I found a lovely buyer who paid me what I paid for it. Years later though, especially after finding Kirby Allison, I kinda regret letting go of that lighter. Maybe I'd like one of the dual flame models more.

    I guess the people mocking S T DuPont’s gas prices don’t know much about Butane refinement. If you put cheap gas with lots of impurities in your lighter it will corrode components, eat through the o-rings and require your expensive lighter to be expensively serviced more frequently. Once you understand that who cares which nozzle it has as the DuPont refills all cost the same. You wouldn’t buy the cheapest fuel and put it in your expensive car why do that with your lighter?

    • @boeing-lt4el
      @boeing-lt4el 2 месяца назад

      Seems like you are trying hard to justify something. A quick scan of 100+ comments here are not a single one is about the gas. Its about the purposefully bespoke nozzles. Dupont isn't refining gas for thier lighters, likely not even bottling this themselves - its off the shelf premium gas, placed into a unique bottle by a third party gas supplier.
