I had a Dupont knock off years ago as a young man. I didn't even know what a Dupont was at the time. I always wondered why the old men in the cigar shop would all stop and watch me light my cigar (and say things like you can't hide money.) 😂 I figured they were clowning on me, being a young cigar smoker. I figured out probably about 5-6 years later what was going on. It was a very, very good knock off, (black laquor , gold top) and sounded like a perfect ping. I just bought it because I liked it,

Purchased a Le Grand Cling from you and was able to pick it up in person.. First ST Dupont and it's absolutely exceptional.
If you haven't watched all the videos on Kirby's hunting trip to Ireland/Scotland, it's a MUST see. watch all the videos start to end. A fascinating like for sure. Also looking forward to Kirby filling up his new Walkin humidor. Fellow Texan here. 72 years old, never smoked but love the smell of a great cigar on the golf course or sporting clays range.

The ping is neat but I definitely prefer enamel. Just beautiful to look at and hold
The ping tone change has more to do with the lid material/thickness than any sort of variation in the mechanism. That’s me guessing of course, with those prices it’s very possible that the mechanism is different.
Can't tell you how much I appreciate the comparison. The enameled versions of the New Le Grand are more expensive than the Diamond Head Gold and Palladium versions, which seems ironic given they have the sort-after classic ping.
Kirby what has been your experience with travelling overseas with lighters? Is it allowed, do they have to be empty & so on?

I didn't buy my ST Dupont lighter because it's a status symbol. I bought it because that Classic Ping puts a smile on my face every time. And a gentleman must be aware of when he could use a moment of happiness.
that suits actually suits you well for not being a "funeral" piece, unfortunately you dont pull off many of the suites you own, they dont go well with your face, this does
“Liadders” is just about forgiveable, but should you ever go to the French factory perhaps learn the correct pronunciation of “objets d’art” beforehand.
