Hi Kirby (also my surname) I own a whisky bar in Hanoi, Vietnam. I sell and smoke cigars in the bar, but over the years I’ve had grief from the wife as our home is directly above the bar in the same building and the smoke finds its way up. I’ve used draught excluder tape around the all the doors and the elevator but still it gets through. Needless to say to say the smoking inside the bar is now pretty much non existent. She’s away this weekend so rest assured the Ramon Allones specially selected will be taking a hit.
Great video and I hope you don’t get too much hassle! Lee.

What a wonderful cigar that had flavor I could actually taste. I think my flavor palette isn’t quite developed yet. I hope to find more similar to that brand I found. Most seem peppery to me. Love how you take care of the smoke in the house like this!
Also for the kids! - I am a non-smoker, bar an occasional self-chosen vice of cigars ofc - But I grew up in constant 2nd hand smoke and a scan for different things at age 28 (without ever having smoked more than 4-5 cigeretttes to try once), showed me my lungs were equivalent of having smoked 5/day for 10 years, just from 2nd hand smoke, with no voice in that matter.
I would go to lengths too to have a smoking room if i ever got a house, and take great care the same way as you did - Kudos, Kirby, please never stop what you do, love the clothing videos too!

I have to agree, sitting quietly in your home is the way to go. I installed a negative pressure downdraft system 15 years ago and it has worked excellently. My bar area is in the center of our great room (Living, Dining and kitchen) in 40'X 42' space with cathedral ceilings, and all the air space allowed for purely extraction, without filtration. Will admit, it is not perfect but handles like 90% so happy with that. Great stuff, Thanks.

I'd say light cognac, tan or white leather cigar lounge style chairs would be good chair replacements, minimum shoulder height back of the chair. The dark chairs seems too dark for the whole room. I'd also suggest a airtight or near airtight container to keep the ash in after you empty the ashtray to help reduce the smell. can always use the ash in the garden as well. You may have one already, so if you do, ignore that bit. Great work and great videos.

There used to be a cigar nightclub in New York, called Bar and Books (unfortunately the establishment no longer exists), and that was the only way they lit cigars there.

I don’t regret installing a filtration system at all. I smoke cigars in my master bedroom or bathroom in a lounge chair. I also burn frankincense occasionally. It keeps all oderrs contained to the bedroom and bathroom. Within a day there is maybe a faint smell. Also my nose never gets stuffed up anymore when I lay down for bed, used to be a problem. The filters are pricey though and I don’t even pay attention to the electric bill anymore….its already astronomical.

I looked into putting a smoking room into our house. We have 31 rooms and I was going to use a basement room since the floors are concrete. The ventilation is doable, but can you really get rid of all the smoke?? I’d likely vent outside. Construction on this house never ends, we’re redoing 9 bathrooms at the same time. It’s like living in a construction zone for the past 2 years… I loved the opening on this episode where the vent pipe ran in front of the carbon door. Yep… Familiar with those scenarios restoring a large historical home…. Always something 😳🙄

Only a $2-3K increase in the power bill! Gotta love TX! I live in NRH TX, built a cigar room and installed a vent used in greenhouses for weed ventilation. I vented it through the roof in a straight line. Simple air return. Poor man’s cigar room but Works great. 😉

    • @SmokeNGunsBBQ

I didn't even use an air return. The negative pressure is a positive imo, pulls fresh air in the entire house whenever I smoke. Believe it or not outside air is typically always cleaner.

  • @matt-lang

I think you could install some folding french doors in the entrances to that room to restrict the airflow to the rest of the house if you find there's a bit too much smoke escaping.
The main challenge will be if you have guests over; having 2-4 lit cigars in that space will likely be far too much for the filtration system to handle. But if you install even a few thinner doors, open the window, and run the filtration system I expect you could avoid most of the smoke escaping.

    • @SmokeNGunsBBQ
      @SmokeNGunsBBQ 7 месяцев назад

If smoke is escaping he's not pulling enough negative pressure against his hvac's intake. He spent a fortune on bs lol. Through the roof is the only way to go and even then the room itself is going to need a deep clean often.

First of all, I share Your philosophy about the civilized inside Smoke. May I further suggest to you the Barcelona chair, designed by german architect 'Ludwig Mies van der Rohe' (known to be a frequent ciggar smoker him self), as part of his ' Barcelona Pavilion' at the 1929 International Exposition.
In my personal opinion: timeless design, verry elegant

I applaud your filtration system. I'm sure your wife and children and non-smoking guests will appreciate your thoughtfulness. I also live in a climate where it's usually hot, very hot, cooler, but with mosquitoes, or just too cold to enjoy any outdoor activity, so I understand completely your commitment to providing a comfortable space to smoke. In regard to your chairs, I suspect something you sit in, rather than perch on, which seems to be the case with the current chairs, would be far more elegant and comfortable. The deep, dark leather chairs that English clubs seem to thrive on would seem to be ideal to my eye, but clearly you need to pick what you are comfortable with - and in.

@@AuberaunPsychology I'd agree insofar as exposing them to smoke itself. Sidestream smoke's impact on others, not only children, needs to be eliminated, period. What you do to your own body is your business, but it doesn't give a license to inflict it on others.

Wow never seen someone do this in a home, good to know you have the cleanest air in Dallas. You could get a particle meter and take a measure with and without smoke in different rooms. A good portable air purifier near you could eliminate any residual smoke.
