Voodoo Highway is one of my favorite albums! Great songwriting, great vocals, and obviously great guitar playing. But maybe above all else-- my all time favorite guitar tone. It is so raw and crunchy-- it just slays me. I have the Voodoo Highway CD, didn't realize it was no longer available. Thank you for a great video and trip down memory lane!
Awesome playing! I 'm so glad Jake's getting the recognition he deserves along with Friedman amps and Charvel making signature amps/guitars for him. Jakes a humble guy and an amazing player.
Absolutely brilliant! You nailed it... all the way down to Jake's vibrato. I just love Jake's playing. Way underrated. I think he is the best to come out of the 80s.... He's the best Ozzy guitar player and Badlands is fantastic!
Hi man! Your videos started showing up in my feed a few days ago. I first watched the John Sykes video, and now the two Jake videos...OMG : ) Your videos are amazing, and your playing is PHENOMENAL. So glad I found your channel. Thank you for all that you do!
Found your channel while looking for John Sykes news and now I cant stop watching, I love the same players as you do. John Sykes might be my all time no1 but man... Jake E Lee, Zakk W, Dime, EVH are all up there... And like you, I have my heroes tattooed in a full sleeve. One of my absolute favourite players that fits in that "school of Gary Moore" that you seem to love as well, that (like Jake) does not get nearly enough recognition , is John Norum. It would be absolute killer if you did a "in the style of" John Norum. Another player I would love to see you make a vid of is George Lynch. I will absolutely check out your own music as well, you got me hooked on your playing. Skål från Sverige!
@@EugeValovirta230V The first two Europe albums are great, but I think he really developed his style and sound as a solo artist. That first solo album 'Total Control' is simply incredible!
Man that sounds great.. and two of my favorite Jake songs brilliant. I use Amplitube (5 now) and have a hard time dialing in that tone.. closest I could get is using orange amps on it, but now that 5 has a friedman I am getting closer to that magical tone
Bravo! Badlands should have gotten much more recognition, it was bad timing and their label wouldn´t push the records... Jake E a long time favourite and you really got it down too!
Ray Gillen ❤️ I remembered reading some stories from Jeff Martin on how Ray used to came up with lyrics lines while jamming, my favorite songs from them are Fire Lasts Forever & The River. Jake E Lee’s tone on all Badlands albums is great, so crunchy but dynamic responding a LOT to his picking attack...
AWESOME playing and videos.i just bought a boss sd1.im going back to the analog pedals, ive always used pedal boards. But now,i want to go back to pedals.lol
I totally agree with you that Badlands represents the best of Jake E Lee. That first album especially is just a gold mine of great music and phenomenal guitar playing. It holds up extremely well to me. I got the CD when it came out and actually just played it a couple of weeks ago after not having heard it in quite a while. It's sort of a tradition with me to listen to "Winter's Call" when the cold winter weather starts creeping in. I remember an interview with Jake when this album was coming out. I believe he stated he used his white SG style guitar (not sure what make it is but its the one in the videos) for most of it and used only stomp boxes for effects. no rack shit. as always interesting and informative video, thank you! now to grab my guitar and figure some of this shit out!
Indeed! I guess the guitar is the white Charvel Strat with black pickguard he has used basically his whole career. At least that’s on the music videos 👌😎.
Voodoo Highway is my favorite tone of all time. I'm still chasing that raw aggressive tone. Jake's playing with Badlands is my favorite. I too love the Ozzy years but Badlands really elevated his tone and his playing. I think he let more of his true self come through on those records. You did a great job and more important you had fun! Thanks for the vid. I really enjoyed it. Where did you get the backing tracks? I was singing along and failing miserably because Ray is such a monster singer. I read he used Plexi's and the Boss od1 and EV speakers but have never had the chance to put that rig together. I'd love for him to talk about it or someone from that recording session to discuss miking technique and the actual gear he used to obtain that monster tone. I know he used JB pickups too. That tone is so raw and aggressive. I love it. Great vid tribute to Jake.
Thanks man! ’High Wire’ was from guitarbackingtracks.com or something like that and ’The Last Time’ I made myself: programmed the drums & played the bass 👌😎.
Thanks man for all the RED WOLF . I have to say this is my new favorite band 👍 kinda hits home with the music I write Red Wolf / KXM style . I’ve been labeled a Lynch descendent .. kinda sucks but hey .. thanks for the continuing inspiration bro RED WOLF = bad ass
I basically use it for the sounds and use Cubase’s drum editor to actually create the beats but occasionally I use the beats from Addictive’s different beat libraries so I don’t know what could I teach about it 😎.

Yeah I know. That’s basically a studio live demo of what was supposed to be their third album and when that never happened they just put it out as it was👌. Maybe I’ll do another Jake video in the future but for now I’m good with these two 😉.
